He snitched on himself… Drunk Driver Who Confessed On YouTube To Killing Man Gets Jail Time Via Gawker reports: Today, Matthew Cordle, the drunk driver who released a YouTube video last month confessing that he’d killed 61-year-old Vincent Canzani, was delivered a sentence of six-and-a-half years by an Ohio judge. CNN has a video of the ruling. Around three in the morning on Saturday, June 22, after a night of bar-hopping with his buddies, the 22-year-old Columbus resident drove his truck “completely blacked out” into oncoming traffic, where his vehicle hit and killed Canzani, a divorced Navy submarine veteran with two daughters. Cordle, who’d been speeding the wrong way on a highway, survived with injuries. As prosecutors were still building a case against him for the fatal crash, Cordle shot and released a video confessing to the crime, declaring, “When I get charged, I will plead guilty and take full responsibility for everything I’ve done to Vincent and his family.” Related Drunk Driver Who Confessed To Killing a Man in YouTube Video Indicted This morning, an Ohio grand jury indicted Matthew Cordle–the drunk driver who released a YouTube video last week confessing that he’d killed… Read… Cordle did plead guilty, after a grand jury indicted him on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He faced a maximum sentence of eight-and-a-half years. The Columbus Dispatch has video of Canzani’s daughter asking the court to deliver a maximum sentence, saying, “The message I do not want to send is that if you hit and kill somebody, all you have to do is admit to it later and get leniency.” In that same clip, Cordle reads a statement to Canzani’s family, apologizing for his actions, stating, “It should have been me that night—the guilty party—instead of an innocent man.” Youtube Continue reading →

CeeLo ain’t going down without a fight. Cee Lo Green Pleads Not Guilty To Drug Charge He may have gotten off scott-free for the sexual assault charge, but ‘ole boy is facing four years for allegedly pushing that E. According to TMZ CeeLo Green just pled not guilty to a charge of giving a woman ex pills last year before having sex with her. The singer had arrived with his lawyer Blair Berk to the criminal court house moments ago to be arraigned. He is currently posting $30,000 bond and is expected to turn himself in to authorities for booking within 24 hours. Another hearing has been set for next month. CeeLo must be present. If convicted, he faces up to four years in state prison. Due to insufficient evidence, prosecutors cleared Green of charges he also sexually assaulted the woman during the incident. On his way into court, CeeLo told us he’s relieved and not scared — relieved that he’s not being charged with sexual assault, and not scared of the drug charge. CeeLo’s attorney tells us, “We are pleased that the Los Angeles County District Attorney has completed its investigation and concluded that the evidence did not support the false and unfounded claims made over a year ago.” She said any sexual contact between the two was consensual. She adds, “As it relates to the one charge of furnishing or sharing ecstasy, Mr. Green will responsibly address that matter in a court of law.” Whatever happens, Cee is a big boy and he’ll be okay. He doesn’t have to worry about being someone’s wife in jail. WENN

An 11-year-old Louisiana boy who passed away from cancer this week made sure to fulfill his one final selfless wish before he died. 11-Year-Old Dying Boy’s Final Wish To Feed The Homeless Is Fulfilled Via HuffPo reports: After a five-year battle with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer that develops in the soft tissue, Trevor Sims of Baton Rouge died on Wednesday, according to WBRZ. But even as the young kid who loved video games and going to the beach faced a grave fate and severe pain, he spent his waning days helping others. Trevor’s goal before he died was to raise money and collect food for the Baton Rouge Food Bank to help the homeless and the hungry. So impressed with his altruistic spirit, the organization decided to dedicate a week-long charity event in his name. The generous kid said he was inspired to help others after his own mom struggled to put food on the table. “One time, when I was diagnosed, my mom didn’t have any money to get food and we were starving for two or three days in a row. She couldn’t get a job because she had to take care of me,” Trevor told ABC. “I don’t want nobody else to feel that way.” Altogether, the Trevor’s Wish City-Wide Food Drive raised more than 34,000 pounds of food and $64,000 in monetary donations, according to the organization. But it wasn’t just the homeless and the hungry that Trevor had on his mind. Before the charitable boy passed away, he sat down with WBRZ to share his thoughts on how to leave a meaningful mark in this world. “You can make a difference every day. Just by helping somebody who’s getting bullied or helping somebody cross the street or anything,” he told the news outlet. “All little things count.” In his short life, this young man taught others what ‘living’ and ‘giving’ means. Man Denies Leaving Racial Slur On Red Lobster Receipt The customer at the center of a racial slur written on a Red Lobster receipt last month in Franklin is speaking out for the first time and says new evidence proves he didn’t write it. Via WSMV reports: “It’s been horrific. I mean, I just have been getting all these threats and everything,” said Red Lobster customer Devin Barnes. His name and his receipt wound up at the center of the scandal, but Barnes says he now has reason to breathe easier. “I’m not mad. I just didn’t like what happened. I just wish it didn’t come out this way,” he said. Several weeks ago, waitress Toni Jenkins posted a photo of her customer’s receipt online. “She was polite. She was cheerful,” Barnes said. But Barnes did not leave her a tip and says he left the total line blank. So, when the N-word somehow showed up on the receipt online, Barnes knew he was in trouble. “I didn’t do this,” he said. “I just asked my parents, ‘Why is this happening to me?’ I mean, I didn’t do nothing. Me and my wife were just trying to go out to eat, have a nice time.” Weeks ago, Barnes’ attorney and pastor, Richard Dugger, hired an independent handwriting expert who compared the receipt with samples provided by Barnes and his wife. “There is no evidence that neither Devin Barnes nor his wife wrote that hideous statement on the line total, which means that someone else did,” Dugger said. Would someone really admit to be a racist before the world? “Oh yeah I called that waitress a n*gger, yep that was me!”

Dead Wrong: Brooklyn Board Decides Notorious B.I.G. Was “Too Ghetto And Fat” To Name Street After Him

Not everyone loves big poppa ? Brooklyn Board Decides Notorious B.I.G. Doesn’t Get Street Name Via Gawker reports: Earlier this year, Brooklyn resident LeRoy McCarthy started an online petition to name a local street corner after Biggie Smalls, specifically an intersection near the late rapper’s childhood home. The petition gained enough strength to be brought before a community board hearing yesterday and DNA Info reports that the board members weren’t so keen on dedicating part of their neighborhood to the man responsible for “Ten Crack Commandments.” In fact, they complained that Biggie was too criminal, too misogynistic, and, weirdly, too physically unfit to deserve the tribute. That’s essentially what one member told the room: CB2 member Lucy Koteen said she “looked up the rapper’s history” and read what she had learned to the full board Tuesday night. “He started selling drugs at 12, he was a school dropout at 17, he was arrested for drugs and weapons charge, he was arrested for parole violations, he was arrested in North Carolina for crack cocaine, in 1996 he was again arrested for assault, he had a violent death and physically the man is not exactly a role model for youth,” she said. “I don’t see how this guy was a role model and frankly it offends me.” Meanwhile, another board member, Ken Lowy, owner of the Brooklyn Heights Cinema, objected to how Biggie talked about women in his songs. But the lyricist just used street vernacular, countered petitioner LeRoy McCarthy, also lamenting to DNA Info that “board members should not hold Wallace’s physical appearance nor how he died against him.” Only white artists get a pass for their personal foibles and questionable messaging in their work, duh.
