One Alcoholic Drink A Day Helps Keep The Doctor Away?!!?

Not so sure about this but they have a study for everything: Moderate alcohol consumption may help prevent heart disease, Canadian researchers said after reviewing dozens of studies conducted over three decades, adding to the evidence that drinking can offer health benefits. People who have one drink or fewer each day are 14 percent to 25 percent less likely to develop heart disease compared with those who don’t imbibe, according to an analysis of 84 studies conducted since the 1980s. Moderate amounts of alcohol consumed daily increase the levels of so-called good cholesterol in the body, a separate review of 63 studies found. The results, published today on the British Medical Journal’s website, bolster those of previous trials. Two or three drinks a day may prevent people from having heart attacks or strokes after undergoing heart-bypass surgery, Italian researchers said Nov. 14. Men in Belfast who drank most of their alcohol on weekends had almost double the risk of heart disease compared with French drinkers who spread consumption over a week, according to a study published last year. “There may now be an impetus to better communicate to the public that alcohol, in moderation, may have overall health benefits that outweigh the risks” in some patients, wrote the researchers, led by William Ghali from the University of Calgary. Alcohol provides benefits regardless of the type of spirit, the researchers said. One drink containing 15 grams of alcohol a day for women, and two drinks for men, is good for health, they found. A standard drink, such as 12 ounces of beer or 5 ounces of wine, contains about 13.7 grams of alcohol, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Giving people a reason to get wasted is never a good idea. So, you take care of your heart but you can f**k up your liver if you’re not careful with the consumption… SMH!!! Source

What Were You Thinking??? Michael Vick Cancels On Oprah

In her quest to close out Season 25 with a bang, Oprah offered Mike Vick the opportunity to solidify his comeback in America’s hearts and minds. And this fool is reneging on his acceptance of the invitation. Of all the moves Michael Vick has made, this is one of the more curious ones. He has bailed on Oprah. The Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback — the NFL’s comeback player of the year — canceled the taping of an interview (subject matter: doing time for his part in an illegal dogfighting ring, his return to the NFL, his work with the Humane Society and his future) — with the queen of gab. “After careful consideration, I will need to postpone the taping of the Oprah Winfrey interview. I admire and respect Oprah and hope to be able to participate in an interview in the future.” There’s a report out of Philly that quotes sources saying the Eagles pressured Vick to cancel. Maybe he decided it was a bad idea to do the interview so close to the Westminster dog show. Maybe it’s connected to getting the Eagles’ franchise tag. In any event, given that her show is going off the air, a rebooking might not be likely. Joe Flint of the Los Angeles Times thinks Vick is making the right move in keeping a low profile. “Going on ‘Oprah Winfrey,’ though, to be given some sort of blessing by the queen of talk is too much too soon,” Flint writes. “Part of what Vick needs to learn and show is humility, and going on a popular TV show to say look at me now is not humble.” We don’t know about that one. Crying on Oprah is NEVER a bad look for a celebrity. Source

Allahu Akbar! Hosni Mubarak Set To Step Down As The “President” Of Egypt!!

Source Bout DAMN time! CAIRO — Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak is to step down, two sources told NBC News Thursday, as widespread protests against his 30-year rule continue to grip the country. Following an all-day meeting of the country’s supreme military council, state television reported that the military council had expressed its “support of the legitimate demands” of the people. NBC News reported that a high-ranking source inside the president’s office said Mubarak would step down and the newly appointed vice president, Omar Suleiman, would take over. This was then confirmed by a second source. The news came following repeated warnings by members of the regime of a military crackdown or coup. Some pro-democracy protesters reacted cautiously, saying they would only believe Mubarak was really resigning when he announced it on state television. State TV said Mubarak would speak to the nation Thursday night from his palace in Cairo. However, Al-Arabiya television news said there were reports that Mubarak had gone to the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik with his army chief of staff. There were other reports that he had actually left Egypt yesterday and that his statement was pre-recorded. Despite being happy about Mubarak’s resignation there are still some concerns amongst Egyptians about what type of governing body will take power. “It’s a good development, but we really want to know if it will be a military government or not. That’s our fear,” Ahmed Medhat, a 41-year-old film director who was in the square earlier Thursday, said. “Maybe it will be a military government for five months, it will be ok. But forever?” he said. “We are waiting to take a decision. Will it be a military government? Maybe we stay and we are not going home again.” Congratulations to the people of Egypt! You stood your ground and it appears that you will get exactly what you asked for. Source

We Taking Over: White Folks Are Becoming Less Of A Majority

Rush Limbaugh’s greatest fear is a lot closer to coming true than even he probably ever imagined. Via the New York Times Whites continued to decline as a share of the American population in 2009, and they now represent less than half of all 3-year-olds, according to a Brookings Institution analysis of census data released Monday. The country’s young population is more diverse than ever, with whites now in the minority in nursery schools, preschools and kindergartens in eight states — Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas — and the District of Columbia, according to William H. Frey, a demographer at Brookings. That was up from six states in 2000. “We are on our way to having a majority of minority students in U.S. schools,” Mr. Frey said. Nationally, whites accounted for 58.8 percent of all school enrollment in 2009, Mr. Frey said, citing the new data, which measured enrollment from preschool to graduate school as of October 2009. That was down from 64.6 percent in 2000, a decline that came with falling birthrates as the white population aged. Population growth has come instead from Hispanics, blacks and Asians, whose children represent ever larger shares of the school population. Twenty-three percent of children in kindergarten were Hispanic in 2009, up from 18 percent in 2000 and 10 percent in 1989. Hispanics now account for nearly a fifth of all enrollment from nursery school through college, Mr. Frey said. The United States has been experiencing the biggest surge of immigrants since the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when European immigrants considerably expanded the population. And while immigrants have long taken to cities, more recently they have spread throughout the nation, creating diverse student populations in places that had been overwhelmingly white. The states whose white children dipped to below 50 percent of nursery school and kindergarten enrollment most recently were Arizona, Florida and Nevada, Mr. Frey said. Next in line are Georgia, Louisiana and Maryland, he said. The increase in minority students in schools doesn’t mean our children are getting a better education yet. And the people who worry about these things are in no rush to change that. The gap between the country’s diverse young population and its older white one is raising difficult issues for policy makers, who are trying to balance the growing costs associated with the aging white population with the need for financing to educate an increasingly diverse youth. Education experts who have studied the issue say the United States is lagging behind in educating minority students. The past big wave of immigrants took more than a generation to integrate into the economy through education, they say, a delay the country can still afford in today’s age of global competitiveness. “These students will be an important source of our labor-force growth as baby boomers begin retiring,” Mr. Frey said. Is this good news to you?

Jesus Take The Wheel: American Airlines Flight Nearly Misses 2 Military Cargo Planes!

Near MISS, or near HIT?? We’re just sayin… An American Airlines jetliner barely missed two giant military cargo planes in a harrowing near-collision over the Atlantic two weeks ago, investigators said today. Authorities suspect errors by Long Island-based air controllers and the jetliner’s pilot in the incident, an air control source told The Post. American Flight 951 took off around 9:30 p.m. from Kennedy Airport on the night of Jan. 20. An hour later, about 80 miles southeast of New York, the American Boeing 777 came within 200 feet vertically and 2,000 feet horizontally of two military C17 cargo planes heading toward McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, the air controller source said. The planes were close enough to trigger a traffic collision avoidance system, or TCAS, alert on the American Airlines jet, the National Transportation Safety Board said. The incident also triggered automatic alerts to the FAA’s New York Center, which oversees that area of the Atlantic Ocean. With the TCAS alert and the controllers’ guidance, the planes avoided a collision, the NTSB said. Controllers in the New York Center, located in Ronkonkoma, were briefed on the incident Thursday. The NTSB says it has already interviewed the controllers involved, and is still gathering information from the Air Force and the airline. Regardless of the terminology used, we’re glad that the planes did NOT crash into each other. God is good, let the chuuch say ‘Amen’. Source

Unplugged From The Matrix: Egypt Shuts Down All Internet Connections Throughout The Entire Country!

Just because folks in Egypt may not EAT ham doesn’t mean they won’t GO ham… About a half-hour past midnight Friday morning in Egypt, the Internet went dead. Almost simultaneously, the handful of companies that pipe the Internet into and out of Egypt went dark as protesters were gearing up for a fresh round of demonstrations calling for the end of President Hosni Mubarak’s nearly 30-year rule, experts said. Egypt has apparently done what many technologists thought was unthinkable for any country with a major Internet economy: It unplugged itself entirely from the Internet to try and silence dissent. Experts say it’s unlikely that what’s happened in Egypt could happen in the United States because the U.S. has numerous Internet providers and ways of connecting to the Internet. Coordinating a simultaneous shutdown would be a massive undertaking. “It can’t happen here,” said Jim Cowie, the chief technology officer and a co-founder of Renesys, a network security firm in Manchester, N.H., that studies Internet disruptions. “How many people would you have to call to shut down the U.S. Internet? Hundreds, thousands maybe? We have enough Internet here that we can have our own Internet. If you cut it off, that leads to a philosophical question: Who got cut off from the Internet, us or the rest of the world?” As crazy as this sounds Egypt isn’t the first country to shut down their internet or at least have it censored China has long restricted what its people can see online and received renewed scrutiny for the practice when Internet search leader Google Inc. proclaimed a year ago that it would stop censoring its search results in China. In 2009, Iran disrupted Internet service to try to curb protests over disputed elections. And two years before that, Burma’s Internet was crippled when military leaders apparently took the drastic step of physically disconnecting primary communications links in major cities, a tactic that was foiled by activists armed with cell phones and satellite links. We’re scared to think what would happen if the internet was shut down in the U.S. People would be wildin out in the streets! How long do you think you could go without the internet? (Hopefully not too long, because you need to log on here and catch the latest and greatest.) Source
