Drew Angerer/Getty Images Lucy McBath Declares Victory Over Karen Handel She did it. Lucy McBath is calling herself a winner in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District Race. The mother of the late Jordan Davis s says she’s defeated incumbent Karen Handel despite the fact that the race has not officially been called at this time. McBath released the following statement; “After a hard fought race, I am honored to announce that the people of Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District have put their trust in my vision for the future of our district and nation.” Democrat Lucy McBath is declaring victory over Rep. Karen Handel in #GA06 . No major news outlet had called the race. SOS office has McBath about 3,000 votes ahead, still within 1 percent recount threshold #gapol pic.twitter.com/J1exg8tV3k — Tamar Hallerman (@ajconwashington) November 7, 2018 Karen Handel has yet to concede and says the race is “too close to call.” McBath’s son Jordan Davis was killed by Michael Dunn at a Florida gas station because he and his friends were “playing music too loud.”  Dunn received life in prison without parole for the murder. To celebrate the upcoming release of the latest rendition of Dr. Seuss’ THE GRINCH, Universal Pictures and Illumination held a special screening on Saturday, November 3 at the Cinemark at the Pike Theater in Long Beach. Prior to the start of the film, media personality Karen Civil introduced the film and the film’s narrator Pharrell Williams came up to share a few words! For their eighth, fully animated feature, Illumination, and Universal Pictures present The Grinch, based on Dr. Seuss’ beloved holiday classic.  The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit.  Funny, heartwarming and visually stunning, it’s a universal story about the spirit of Christmas and the indomitable power of optimism. Karwai Tang/WireImage Drake Says He Was Racially Profiled A Vancouver casino is feeling Drake’s wrath. Drizzy posted on social media that he wasn’t allowed to gamble at Parq Vancouver and claimed he was racially profiled. “Worst run business I have ever witnessed,” wrote Drake. “Profiling me and not allowing me to gamble when I had everything they originally asked me for.” Before that Drake hit the stage at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena. Parq has since released a statement apologizing to Drizzy but also didn’t deny the profiling. “You may be aware of a situation at our casino last night. On behalf of Parq Vancouver we would like to apologize for the experience our customer had. We are operating in one of the most complex, highly regulated industries and are always looking to better our communication and customer service. We are constantly improving our communications process to ensure that these new regulations are better understood by all guests. We categorically stand against racism of any kind. R.I.P. Rapper Young Greatness Shot & Killed In New Orleans

Paras Griffin/BET/Getty Images for BET “Moolah” Rapper Young Greatness Killed The family of a New Orleans rapper is reeling after his untimely death. Relatives of Theodore Jones a.k.a Young Greatness confirmed to NOLA.com that he was gunned down Monday morning outside of a Waffle House on Eylsian Field Avenue. They add that he was in town for a funeral and on FaceTime with his manager when shots rang out. His car was also stolen but later recovered. Greatness is best known for his 2015 song “Moolah” that made it the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Police are currently searching for a person of interest in connection to his murder. R.I.P. Young Greatness.

FayesVision/WENN.com Roman Reigns Reveals Leukemia Battle Professional wrestler Roman Reigns is sharing some sad news. The WWE personality has announced that he is stepping away from the ring due to an ongoing fight against leukemia. Reigns, real name Leati Joseph Anoaʻi, has been living with cancer for 11 years and it’s sadly returned. He said he would relinquish his claim to the WWE’s Universal Championship as he focuses on battling leukemia. “When I was 22 years old, I was diagnosed with this,” said Reigns. “And very quickly I was able to put it in remission. But I’m not going to lie, that was the hardest time in my life. I didn’t have a job, I didn’t have any money, I didn’t have a home and I had a baby on the way.” He also denied that he’s retiring. “I want to make one thing clear — by no means is this a retirement speech. I will beat this and I will be back, so you will see me very very soon.” Roman’s WWE family has since expressed their support for him. A Lil’ Positivity: Re:Imagine/ATL and SPANX Host One-Day Media Summit For Metro Atlanta High School Girls

On Saturday, October 6, 100 Metro Atlanta teenage girls attended My Future Credit summit, hosted by re:imagine/ATL and presented in partnership with the SPANX by Sara Blakely Foundation, from 9am to 4pm. The morning opened with SPANX founder, Sara Blakely sharing her journey with the young attendees. Throughout the day, over 30 professional women, from VML, Floyd County Productions, Bossip, Turner Classic Movies, 902HipHop, Atlantic Records, Invest Atlanta, and other independent filmmakers and musicians shared their career knowledge and expertise. The summit’s mission was to inspire young women to visualize their name “roll” in the credits and offered high school girls a chance to explore different career options, receive useful guidance and advice, and interact with successful professional women. This event is exposed students to career paths in TV, film, music, and digital media. As Georgia continues to attract a record number of productions. Georgia also has one of the most extensive music industry resource networks in the country, is a prime filming location, and has been voted the number one state for doing business. With all of these resources, the city is primed to build a thriving entertainment workforce pipeline. For the past four years, re:imagine/ATL has increasingly supported Metro Atlanta’s growing film and digital media industry, ultimately supporting the state’s economy by working with high school students in the community exposing them to digital storytelling tools and careers. With the Centennial population (those born post-1995) set to outpace both Millennial and Baby Boomer populations in Georgia by 2020, properly preparing them to join the workforce and become a larger part of the digital world is critical.

‘Hidden Figure’ Behind First Computer-Generated Rough Draft Of A U.S. Naval Ship Dies At 83

SplashNews.com Raye Jean Montague Passes Away A brilliant woman lauded as the “Arkansas Hidden Figure” has passed. Raye Jean Montague of Pine Bluff, Arkansas died Tuesday at 83. She like Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson who were the “Hidden Figures” of NASA’s John Glenn launch , excelled in fields of STEM. Montague was an internationally-registered professional engineer and created the first computer-generated rough draft of a U.S. Naval ship. Montague appeared on “ Good Morning America” last year with Janelle Monae to discuss her accomplishments and told host Robin Roberts what it was like to excel despite living in the segregated south. “I’m known as the first person to design a ship using the computer,” said Montague. And I was the first female program manager of ships in the history of the Navy, which was the equivalent of being a CEO of a company.” Montague attended the Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical and Normal School now known as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, an HBCU. She originally planned to attend the engineering school at the University of Arkansas but they did not accept black people at the time. In addition to being a trailblazing engineer, Montague was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the first sorority founded by African-American women. The sorority recognized her passing this week with a special message and sent condolences to her chapter, Beta Pi Omega in Little Rock, Arkansas. Raye Jean Montague, known as the Arkansas Hidden Figure, has passed away at 83. She was a United States Naval Engineer credited with creating the first computer generated rough draft of a U.S. Naval ship.
