Diplomats Set To Kick Off New Season of ‘RapFix Live’!

Reunited Harlem collective will take fans’ questions during Thursday’s live stream at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By MTV News staff The Diplomats Photo: Donjai Harlem, stand up! The Diplomats are reunited and the Uptown collective — Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana and Freekey Zekey — are set to bring their revived outfit to 1515 where they’ll be our guests on “RapFix Live.” Dipset will kick off the second season of MTV News’ hip-hop live stream show on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. After an internal spat caused disruption among the charismatic crew, they slowly began repairing the damaged relationships. In February 2009, Cam’ron told MTV News that he and Jones had spoken for the first time in years. From that point on, the two childhood friends inched closer to a reconciliation that eventually resulted in their comeback concert this past November. “It’s a good feeling,” Jones explained to MTV News about the crew’s new mindset. “Everybody just comes to the table with their best. It’s brotherly competition so it only makes it better. Above all, we came back together for the brotherhood. We grew up together, so there was a love that was lost there. We regained that and it’s time for music.” The Dipset members will sit down with Sway to discuss the status of their comeback, from their forthcoming mixtape to their rumored deal with Interscope Records. “Shout-outs to Dre, that was the most incredible experience in my career,” Jones said shortly after a flick of Dipset working with the West Coast producer appeared online. “Dr. Dre came to our studio, which was even more incredible. That was dope. We got to do a few songs with him. He coached me a bit.” Fans can ask them anything they wish, by tweeting to @MTVRapFix with the hashtag #rapfixlive. Diplomats Talk Kanye West’s ‘Christmas In Harlem’

Dipset’s Jim Jones tells MTV News carol collabo with Chicago MC makes sense given the title: ‘If I was Kanye I would’ve called us too.’ By Hillary Crosley Kanye West Photo: Ben Hider/Getty Images On Thursday, Kanye West released the festive song “Christmas In Harlem” featuring CyHi The Prynce and Teyana Taylor with a local twist. Harlemites and Diplomat members Cam’ron, Jim Jones and Vado joined in on the carol along with Musiq and G.O.O.D. Music MCs Pusha T and Big Sean. (Taylor also hails from Uptown.) “I didn’t know nothing about it, I’m just getting hip to that right now but it’s simple though,” Jim Jones told MTV News when asked how the track came together. “Sh–, if I was Kanye I would’ve called us too. It don’t make sense if they from Chicago, they would’ve made ‘Christmas in Chicago’ then right?” The Dips began releasing Yuletide tracks like “Ballin’ on Christmas” in 2006 off their A Dipset X-Mas LP. As for collaborating with West on the Hit-Boy-produced holiday track, Jones said fans can thank Cam’ron. “Cam called me, sent me the beat, I did my part, sent it back to Cam and he took care of the rest of the business,” Jimmy said. And while the collaboration is a treat for rap fans’ digital Christmas stockings, it does bring up the most recent rift between Cam’ron and Kanye. In September, Cam’ron and Jones remixed West’s “Runaway” and Cam spit the following lyrics: “And Kanye, you a sucka n—a, dissed Dame so my attitude is f— the n—a/ Sucked off Jigga, how you gonna live with that?/ Took the beat, now come get it back.” “I couldn’t tell you what that was about but I know Cam and Don C are like best friends,” Jimmy said of the Dipset leader’s relationship with one of Kanye’s managers. “We’ve actually known Kanye and them for over 10 years from some of our earlier shows when we first got into the music industry so we have a great rapport with them more than anything else. “I don’t think people took what we did so serious more than it was [just the] art of the music that we do,” he continued. “I guess Cam had something on his mind but it wasn’t really a life-or-death situation. And I know Kanye’s a very smart person, he’s got a great spirit, so it’s great that he chose to look past anything that was going on. I appreciate it.” Related Artists Kanye West Jim Jones The Diplomats

Diplomats Are ‘Getting Back On Track,’ Jim Jones And Cam’ron Say

‘If it makes sense, it can happen,’ Cam says of getting the Dipset back together. By Steven Roberts Diplomats Photo: Diplomats The Diplomats were a staple of New York hip-hop for much of the past decade. The group, formed by Cam’ron and Jim Jones, rose to prominence with the release of Cam’s third album, Come Home With Me, and continued their momentum with the constant barrage of mixtapes, two compilation albums and various solo projects. The collective, also known as the Dipset, hit a rocky patch in late 2007 after disagreements between Cam’ron and Jones. The various parties went their separate ways, due to what seemed like irreconcilable differences. But a reunion looks to be on the horizon. Cam’ron and Jones phoned Miss Info last week to talk about their current relationship. “It’s 2010, and this is something I gotta get off my chest. … You’ve known us from back when we didn’t have what we have now, so you remember, that above all, me and Cam, we still brothers,” Jones said. “And we’re building on getting back on track, but first, I apologize for being a rude brother, for saying things publicly without first trying to handle them privately. I apologize for not leading by example, because what I didn’t realize at the time, I was venting, but it wasn’t all about me. There were other people whose dreams were also part of this movement.” Jones said his emotions got in the way of the group’s business and messed things up. He apologized for airing grievances publicly before discussing them privately. He also said that he, Cam’ron and Juelz were all successful and blessed, but the other Dipset members were not as fortunate. “We had this luxurious life, but the rest of the family, they had a slowdown because of the ball I started rolling,” Jones said. “I’d be pissed at me too.” He said God works in mysterious ways, and that since their breakup, they have grown as individual artists. He needed to clear his conscience before they worked on building a bigger and better movement, Jones said. Cam’ron said there isn’t any Dipset music for fans just yet, since they all had their own obligations. “I have this Boss of All Bosses Pt. 2.5 mixtape with Vado and DJ Drama dropping soon,” Cam said. “But yes, me and Jim have been speaking, we’re working out the mechanics of this and looking at our options right now. If it makes sense, it can happen.” Do you want to hear new music from the Diplomats? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Cam’ron Jim Jones
