Greenpeace, PETA "Improperly" Put on FBI Terrorist Watch List

Photo via Treevolution That either group was on such a list in the first place is troublesome in itself. Regardless, The US Justice Department announced today that activists from both PETA and Greenpeace, as well as other groups, had been “improperly” monitored in the years following the September 11th attacks. Members and activists were placed on the FBI’s Terrorist Watch list for “factually weak” reasons between 2001 and 2006, a new report reveals. And the kicker is, the agency never found any evidence that either group was planning anything other … Read the full story on TreeHugger

McCarthyism By Email: Fomenting Fear Of Environmentalists and Tea Partiers Alike

“McCarthy brandishing one of his infamous lists,” Image credit: Knowledge Rush Environmentalists in Pennsylvania may have more in common with the “Tea Party” crowd than they might like to admit. White House Accused of Withholding Key Info on BP Spill

There’s been a well-documented gray area surrounding the cooperative operations of BP and federal governmental agencies in the response to the Gulf spill. Questions were raised about press access, for instance, as the government seemed to be abetting BP in restricting media access to sensitive or potentially embarrassing spill-impacted sites. Later, there was the NOAA’s report that 75% of the oil had vanished — such fine news for B… Read the full story on TreeHugger
