Maggie Gyllenhaal is Really Into Vibrators [PICS]

No, unfortunately we don’t have video of Maggie trying out said vibrators on herself. All we know is that the marvelous Miss G. is starring in the new movie Hysteria , a costume drama about the invention of the vibrator. Really! Turns out it was invented in Victorian England by one Mortimer Granville , who used it as a cure for “female hysteria,” a common ailment during Victorian times whose symptoms included: Faintness, nervousness, insomnia, fluid retention, heaviness in abdomen, muscle spasm, shortness of breath, irritability, loss of appetite for food or sex, and ” a tendency to cause trouble “. In other words, in need of some, ahem, release. Before Granville’s discovery, Victorian gynecologists were reduced to alleviating their patients’ tension manually. You read that right- manually. Apparently Granville’s hands were sore from diddling dowagers all day, so he developed the vibrator to give his aching wrist a rest. To promote her buzz-worthy (heh) performance in the film, Maggie is hosting an episode of the Discovery Channel show Curiosity , where she will explore the age-old question: What’s up with orgasms? More after the jump!

‘Transformers 3’ Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Before watching ‘Dark of the Moon,’ check out our handy guide. By Eric Ditzian Shia LaBeouf and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” Photo: Paramount Before the second “Transformers” even hit theaters, director Michael Bay was already saying no to a third installment — or at least one that would hit theaters in 2011. It was back in February 2009, a full three months before the release of “Revenge of the Fallen,” that Bay said there was no way he’d helm a third “Transformers” flick (later titled “Dark of the Moon” ) and get it into multiplexes little more than two years later. “I would like to take a year off,” he told us at the time. But whaddya know? Bay not only ended up agreeing to whipping together the 3-D flick in time for this year’s Independence Day weekend, but Paramount ended up shifting the release to June 29 (June 28, if you count the many 9 p.m. showings). How did we get to this point? To understand that transformation — to learn everything there is to know — we’ll have to travel back to mid-2009: Hop aboard our “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” cheat sheet: Reworking the Bay-hem By October 2009, coming off the poorly reviewed but $836 million-grossing “Revenge of the Fallen,” Bay had cleared up the release date issues and announced that preproduction on the next film had begun. Increasingly, it appeared as though the new movie would be the first “Transformers” to get a 3-D release . “We’re literally in the middle of that. There’s no definitive answer,” producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura told us about the chance for 3-D . But the news about 3-D took a backseat to a rather shocking casting move in May: Megan Fox would not be returning to the franchise. She and Bay had previously shared a contentious creative partnership (remember when she compared him to Hitler and he called her immature?), but suddenly the two had parted ways. Possible replacements for Fox included Brooklyn Decker and Gemma Arterton, but the job eventually went to Victoria’s Secret model, and Hollywood newbie, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley . “I think there’s positives and negatives to her not being [in the movie],” LaBeouf told us about Fox . “It’s awesome that we get the discovery again. I think when everybody’s vetted and everybody’s been through these wars, then that discovery of the first film is nonexistent. It’s kind of beautiful in that we get a new set of eyes, a fresh set of eyes for the audience to vibe with. So you get the discovery again, which is something that wouldn’t happen if Megan came back.” New “Moon” Filming kicked off on the still-untitled film last summer. It wouldn’t be until the fall that it officially got a title . And the reason for that moniker wouldn’t become clear until December, when the film’s teaser trailer popped up online. It didn’t feature LaBeouf or Huntington-Whiteley — or any of the stars, for that matter — but it did make clear the story would be tied into the Apollo 11 moon landing. The trailers that followed, one 30-second spot during the Super Bowl and a second official trailer that dropped April 28, didn’t help explain the film’s storyline any further, but did continue to tease Bay’s famous action sequences and the new gorgeous girl. About That New Girl … Speaking of the lady in question, who admitted recently she thought she bombed her initial audition , Huntington-Whiteley’s co-stars Tyrese Gibson and LaBeouf assured us that the first-time actress has a lot more going on than just a pretty face. “Rosie is going to surprise a lot of people,” Gibson said. “I have to go on record and say that she did not replace Megan Fox. She’s a brand-new character; her name is Carly in the movie.” “She completely owns her sexuality,” LaBeouf added. “Which I think helps, especially on a movie like this where it’s a blanket summer movie and there are certain requirements of a woman in a summer movie.” Rising to Meet Technical Challenges Director Bay entered new territory on this third installment by doing away with his preconceived notions and shooting the film in 3-D, which, according to him, forced him to deal with a whole new set of filming challenges. “It’s hard with my style of shooting and taking [a camera] and strapping it to guys who are skydiving off buildings and helmet cams,” he said. “It’s a technical nightmare. You don’t even want to tell your viewers how technically complicated this stuff is.” On the other side of the technical spectrum is the amount of wirework required of the actors for the various stunts and action sequences. The specifics behind why the wirework proved to be so difficult, aside from the obvious hanging around, became very clear when LaBeouf, Gibson and Huntington-Whiteley offered a detailed (and highly entertaining) explanation of the various body parts that get pinched during the process. “Yeah, I don’t like the wires,” LaBeouf admitted to MTV News. “Really, you can ask any man.” “All the things cut into the wrong places, put pressure on the wrong bits,” Huntington-Whiteley added. “Whatever it does to a man, it also does to a woman.” “Thank God I have a bigger ass so when you put the harness on, the ass is able to help you stay away from the front part,” Gibson explained. “It kind of balances things out a little bit. When your ass is flat and you have to have it going over the front, it is a bad day in America.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Jamie Campbell Bower ‘Kind Of Scared’ Of ‘Harry Potter’ Exhibit

‘Camelot’ star says being part of New York’s ‘Harry Potter: The Exhibition’ is ‘a bit weird.’ By Jocelyn Vena Jamie Campbell Bower Photo: MTV News In New York City, fans can check out “Harry Potter: The Exhibition” at the Discovery Times Square building. But, don’t expect “Potter” star Jamie Campbell Bower to stop by anytime soon: He said the whole thing is a bit weird for him. “Unfortunately, I can’t see it,” he explained to MTV News when he stopped by to talk about his new Starz series, “Camelot.” On his way out of town post-interview, he shared another reason why he wasn’t likely to ever check the exhibit: “I’m kind of scared of those kinds of things.” Bower explained that there’s something a bit jarring about having a museum-type exhibit dedicated to a piece of work you’ve done. It also means that in the hearts and minds of “Potter” fans, he’ll never age past 20. “It’s a bit weird. When you do a film or whatever, you’re immortalized, I suppose, but in the job that you’re doing,” he said. “And if you take that away and put it in a different [world] — for example, that [exhibit] or the Wizarding World that they have in Orlando (Florida) — it’s scary. We’ll be young forever.” With the franchise coming to an end with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” this July, Bower admitted that it’s a bit bittersweet saying goodbye. “I was only on set for a very short period of time, and I only play a very small role in the film,” he explained. “I suppose, just for me personally, being able to be involved in something that is taking place in England for 10 years and something that has given people jobs and a great boost to the British film industry, that was a real honor.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Harry Potter” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .

Thia Megia, Naima Adedapo Say Jamie Foxx Eased ‘American Idol’ Exit

‘It took out all the stress with the drums and the music and the live colors,’ Megia tells MTV News of results-show performance with will.i.am. By Jim Cantiello Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia Photo: MTV News If you watched Jamie Foxx and will.i.am’s high-energy “Hot Wings” performance on last week’s “American Idol” results show and thought to yourself, “Where have I seen this before?” you weren’t alone. Naima Adedapo rocked a similar drums-and-dance flavor the week before when she performed “Dancing in the Streets,” and the newly eliminated singer loved the similarities. “It was for me! It was like my exit parade,” joked Adedapo, who made a name for herself with equally colorful production numbers on “Idol.” In fact, the over-the-top spectacle was just what the doctor ordered for Adedapo and fellow eliminated castmate Thia Megia , who both boogied on the sidelines during Foxx and will.i.am’s appearance despite knowing that the odds were against them once Ryan Seacrest got around to announcing the results. “It took out all the stress with the drums and the music and the live colors,” said Megia, who stopped by MTV News with Adedapo to discuss their time on “Idol.” “I think it was perfect that they did that [particular performance] before the results. It just made me feel so much better.” “I was like, ‘I’m happy! It doesn’t even matter now. I’m happy!’ ” gushed Adedapo, who also admitted that it took all of energy not to run up onstage and join the Carnival-inspired choreography. “I wanted to jump over the couch and get it in with them. They did such a wonderful job. … I was yelling the whole time. You could probably ask the dancers. I was like, ‘You better get it! You better get it!’ ” she laughed. Adedapo and Megia have plenty of time to plan future dance routines for the upcoming American Idols Live! Tour. The two of them will join the rest of the top 11 as they hit up North American venues this summer. Were you sad to see Adedapo and Megia go? Let us know in the comments! Harry Potter: The Exhibition — We Take You Inside!

Discovery Times Square show opening Tuesday includes ‘authentic’ props, costumes and sets from all eight franchise movies. By Eric Ditzian Fans attend “Harry Potter: The Exhibition” Photo: Mike Coppola/ Getty Alas, all of you muggles out there will never have a chance to step inside Hogwarts, to suit up for a magical Quidditch match, or to sit down for a chat in Hagrid’s Hut. But can come pretty close, thanks to Harry Potter: The Exhibition. Housed at the Discovery Times Square building in New York City from April 5 through September 5, the exhibit showcases props, costumes and sets from all eight franchise movies, from 2001’s “Sorcerer’s Stone” up through the part two of “Deathly Hallows,” which hits theaters this summer. “When we first met with the filmmakers, we wanted to make sure everything was as authentic as possible,” Eddie Newquist, an exhibition creator, told MTV News. “We decided to create an experience where you felt like you were going into Hogwarts. We also wanted to create an experience where you could get very close to a lot of the special costumes and things that maybe go by very quickly in the films but really have a lot of significant meaning.” A few days before Monday’s (April 4) DVD premiere of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1,” MTV News got a peek at what the exhibit is all about. It begins as attendees enter Hogwarts and pass through the lobby of moving portraits. From there, it’s on to the Gryffindor common room, the dormitories, the classrooms and Hagrid’s Hut, before heading out to a Quidditch pitch for a chance to toss a quaffle. Things then take a darker turn, taking folks through the dragon-filled Forbidden Forest and into a confrontation with Voldemort and the Death Eaters. At every turn, visitors will see actual props, costumes and other elements from the films — from Harry’s glasses to Godric Gryffindor’s sword to a hands-on opportunity to pull a young Mandrake from its pot. “It’s a great way to celebrate the end of this amazing, epic series,” Newquist said. “But it’s also a way to pay a bit of homage to the artistry and craftsmanship that’s gone into creating it.” Will you check out the “Harry Potter” exhibit in New York City?
