Though rumors continue to swirl that she could be one of the stars of The Real Housewives of Orange County getting fired , Meghan King Edmonds continues to have plenty of fans who are happy tor updates on her life. And, well, she has a pretty major life update: She’s pregnant! And she’s expecting a … Meghan King Edmonds posted a very lengthy announcement on her blog, writing: “So we’ve made it to the announcement: Aspen is going to be a big sister!” That’s exciting! Though we’d point out that this announcement came on Aspen’s first birthday (yesterday), so she won’t be much older than her younger sibling. “It was so hard for us to keep it a secret from everyone especially since we shared our entire IVF journey with Aspen on RHOC from the very beginning.” And there’s a lot of detail about her latest IVF journey in this post, as well. “Tonight on the RHOC reunion you’ll see that I’m only one month pregnant, but that was filmed five weeks ago: we are now ten weeks pregnant (and I’m feeling every bit of it)!” Awww, that’s wonderful news! “Because you won’t see any of our current journey on RHOC, I’ll share our beautiful journey with you here!” Maybe she just means because, you know, the show doesn’t quite film back-to-back, but some are reading that line as confirmation that Meghan King Edmonds won’t return to RHOC next year. Her post continues: “When Aspen was only a few months old, Jimmy and I knew we wanted to add another baby to the mix.” Wow. Most parents of infants are too tired to tie their shoes properly, let alone make major life decisions. “Yes, Aspen has half-siblings but we wanted her to be able to share in the joy of waking up to a sibling every day of her life.” It’s good that she reassures readers that she’s not pretending that Aspen’s an only child. And then some: “Plus her half-siblings are completely enamored by Aspen and they LOVED the idea of expanding our family even more.” Little siblings are very exciting. “I had reliable companionship this time around with Jimmy by my side, my trusty furry companion Girly Girl and of course, baby Aspen.” She mentions them for a great reason. “It may seem silly to mention Aspen and Girly Girl but this support system was everything to me during round 2 of IVF.” There’s nothing silly about a support system! In case anyone had forgotten, she recapped her previous struggles with IVF. “Side note: If you remember from RHOC, during my first round of IVF I entered the worst depression of my life, probably due to the erratic hormones combined with loneliness.” Guys, if you know anyone who’s had hormone treatments, you know that it can have devastating effects on mental and emotional health. Remember when you were 14 and had all of these feelings and they all seemed so important? Well, imagine suddenly being plunged into that again as an adult, but magnified. Meghan King Edmonds talked about how she was able to cope: “I was able to wean off my depression meds halfway through my pregnancy with Aspen which directly corresponded with when I got Girly Girl, and I haven’t been on a lick of antidepressants since then.” We hope that all of this weaning was done under a doctor’s supervision. “Dogs are truly woman’s best friend and medicine for the soul… and apparently clinical depression!” Not all depression can be cured with a pet, of course — but some specific issues can totally be addressed with a pet. Now, she goes into great detail into the IVF process … which is great for anyone wondering what that’s like. And then she talks about where she is now: “Fast forward to today and I am pregnant! I’m not feeling the greatest but we know that it will all be worth it in the end.” Surrogates are always an option to a couple of means. Just saying. “Aspen will make a fabulous big sister at only a year-and-a-half old in June 2018!” So we already know the (very approximate) due date! Though we could have puzzled it out with the knowledge that she’s 10 weeks pregnant. “Oh, what about the biggest question: Boy or girl? Think blue this time around!” Ah, yes, the ever-important arbitrary gendering of colors. But still, Aspen’s going to love having a younger brother! Florida is a weird place in so many ways. Remember a few years back, when the news was talking about people getting high on “bath salts” and eating each other’s faces ? That was Florida. But it’s no longer only in Florida. One designer drug from that family of stimulants, called Flakka, is making headlines again in other states. And every story seems more bonkers than the last. A couple of years ago, we told you about a Florida Man high on Flakka and streaking while believing that he’s being chased… but what is Flakka? Because as entertained as we are by Riverdale ‘s drug storyline about “jingle-jangle” this season, we don’t normally expect for serious drugs to have such whimsical names off of The CW’s teen dramas. Flakka is a designer drug. It’s a stimulant, also known as alpha-pvp (which sounds like an energy drink marketed to gamer bros), that belongs to the “bath salts” family. The small pink crystals can be snorted, injected, or smoked. But that doesn’t mean that it should. The issue with this type of stimulant is that delirium, violence, and erratic behavior can be the result. Particularly if someone even slightly overdoses. Most of us think of bath salts and go “oh, that’s so 2015 — it’s almost 2018 and it’s all about opioids,” but they’re making a resurgence. And despite the public association between Flakka and Florida, the designer drug is making headlines beyond America’s fetid peninsula, in places like Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas. A former narcotics investigator named Jason Grellner, who is now the safety and security manager at Mercy Hospital, warns Fox News about increasing ER visits believed to have been caused by Flakka. “What we see in the emergency department at Mercy is people brought in by private ambulance or law enforcement who are having a full-blown episode.” And he says that these drugs don’t just send people to the ER — they also make patients more difficult to treat. “The nursing and physician staffs are in danger from these patients.” Again, we’re talking about people who might suddenly have violent impulses and serious delusions. Also, it’s incredibly difficult to diagnose. “There’s no blood test or urine test, no way for physicians to know what the user has actually ingested. They have to treat the patient symptomatically and monitor them constantly for their mental and physical states.” And he even speaks to what patients might be experiencing: “They’re seeing double, they’re seeing dragons. They believe wholeheartedly that it’s actually occurring.” That might sound like a fun adventure, but hallucinations and delusions can lead people to harm themselves, to harm others, and generally get themselves into a whole heap of trouble. Like the Florida Man we mentioned who believed so strongly that he was being chased that he fled and refused to stop … or put on any clothes. Another man tried to break into a police station because, in his delusional state, he thought that he was being pursued. So most people aren’t hallucinating anything as fun or whimsical as dragons, folks. It sounds like Flakka takes their worst anxieties and makes them real. And we think that the four people who made headlines this month in Missouri probably didn’t have as good of a time as they’d hoped. The four of them were disrobing in the streets, barking, and breaking into multiple businesses and also into people’s homes while just completely out of their dang minds. Two of them needed to be rushed to the hospital. Flakka is hitting hard in rural communities that lack the resources or experience to deal with — or even recognize — the problem. One Tennessee precinct ran out of taser cartridges. Some residents in some areas call the police because they believe that conspirators are hiding in trees. You might think that the government response would be to make sure that dosages are carefully prescribed so that people don’t overdose. And perhaps for the government to provide (or businesses to provide) a safe environment for using them. Instead, the government has taken steps to limit distribution and to make taking Flakka and similar drugs illegal. That has not, historically, worked out so well.
Bill O’Neill is an Ohio Supreme Court Justice. He’s also a candidate for Governor. And, to hear him tell it, he has had sex with 50 “very attractive females” during his life. Which would be fine, if he hadn’t boasted about this on social media using information that might lead to some of those women being identified. It’s a terrible political move. And yes, his campaign manager has quit. Wouldn’t you? Senator Al Franken apologized for groping and kissing a woman without her consent . But apologies don’t make things magically go away, and many are calling for him to resign. Apparently, that didn’t sit right with Ohio gubernatorial candidate Bill O’Neill, as he posted this very cringe-worthy rant to Facebook. “Now that the dogs of war are calling for the head of Senator Al Franken,” his post begins. It’s already off to a rough start, because that does not describe the state of things. (Some have called for his resignation, but a graceful retirement after a scandal is hardly the end of the world) His post gets immediately worse: “I believe it is time to speak up on behalf of all heterosexual males.” Generally, people speak up on behalf of underdogs instead of on behalf of the demographic group that dominates every nation on Earth. But please, continue. “As a candidate for Governor, let me save my opponents some research time.” (Never a good idea; make them work for that dirt) “In the past 50 years, I was sexually intimate with approximately 50 very attractive females.” One, that’s bragging and oversharing. Two, don’t refer to women or girls as “females.” It tends to rub people the wrong way. Anyway, his boastful post gets worse: “It ranged from a gorgeous personal secretary to Senator Bob Taft (Senior) who was my first true love and we made passionate love in the hayloft of her parents barn in Gallipolis.” That is way too much information. Oh, O’Neill can tank his career by oversharing about his genital adventures all that he wants. But he should not have told so much about these women. “… And ended with a drop dead gorgeous red head who was a senior adviser to Peter Lewis at Progressive Insurance in Cleveland.” Then he talks about some pretty good policies: “Now can we get back to discussing legalizing marijuana and opening the state hospital network to combat the opioid crisis.” And then he promptly makes things worse again. “I am sooooo disappointed by this national feeding frenzy about sexual indiscretions decades ago.” So, in other words, he’s completely missed the point. Nobody’s talking about “indiscretions.” Sleep around all that you like. The national conversation is about consent. it’s about sexual harassment and sexual assault. And Bill O’Neill should be ashamed of his post. At first, however, he defended making the post, saying that he opposes a “new standard” that, in his mind, means that: “If you’re not absolutely pure you’re not eligible to run for office in America. That’s wrong.” Apparently he failed to actually listen to the national conversation even once. Unless any of those 50 alleged hotties were underage or not consenting, then he didn’t have anything to worry about. By the way, in the process of defending himself, Bill O’Neill also lamented that Roy Moore’s accusations of molestation are condemning him “without due process.” That is literally not how due process works. Roy Moore can’t be imprisoned without evidence and a conviction. The presumption of innocence expands to the courtroom, not to hearts and minds. Or votes. As we mentioned, Bill O’Neill’s campaign manager quit. Chris Clevenger announced his departure on Twitter: “The comments made today by @ BillForOhio were both disturbing and misguided. As a victim of sexual assault, I cannot in good faith remain a part of # TeamONeill .” He followed that up with a tweet: “Sexual harassment and assault is no laughing matter. The next Governor of Ohio must take it seriously to receive my vote.” That’s a good policy to have. Finally, someone got through to Bill O’Neill, because he posted an apology on Sunday morning: “There comes a time in everyone’s life when you have to admit you were wrong. It is Sunday morning and i am preparing to go to church and get right with God. But first I have to get right with my family, my friends, and the thousands of strangers who have been hurt by my insensitive remarks.” Not to mention the two women whom he described a little too well. “I am sorry. I have damaged the national debate on the very real subject of sexual harassment, abuse and unfortunately rape. It is not a laughing matter. It wasn’t when I prosecuted sexual misconduct for the State of Ohio, and it is not now.” It’s good that he’s owning it fully. “To my daughters, Katie Corrin O’Neill, Tiffany O’Neill Scullen, and my sisters Patricia O’Neill Sacha and Mary Kaye O’Neill, accomplished women all, please accept my public apology for dragging you into this matter.” When a male politician screws up, everybody wants to know what the women in his family think. “You deserved better treatment than this. I love you, respect you, and yes. I was wrong. Thank you for loving me enough to stand up to my departure from a loving life. ” It’s still stunning that O’Neill was able to hear about all of these allegations of assault and harassment and see it as an opportunity to brag about his conquests. But, until now, we didn’t know that much about her. But Sophia’s mother is willing to talk about her daughter, Caitlyn, and their relationship. Caitlyn and Sophia didn’t announce their friendship so much as just … allow people to find out. They tend to crop each other out of photographs, but it’s been abundantly clear that Cait and Sophia are spending a lot of time together. Caitlyn has featured bits of Sophia’s legs in a photograph of the sunset, which puts Sophia in Caitlyn’s hotel room, lounging on her balcony. And Sophia has been photographed multiple times with Caitlyn Jenner’s dog and in Caitlyn Jenner’s home. Their bond isn’t really a surprise. Cait has been rejected by many members of the trans community because her self-serving political views and endorsements are seen as harmful to trans women and others. (Caitlyn has praised the likes of Ted Cruz and openly endorsed Donald Trump . Sure, she regrets that now, but buyer’s remorse isn’t getting her a lot of sympathy or forgiveness from vulnerable minorities who are threatened by the Trump administration) By definition, as a celebrity, Caitlyn is a representative of trans women — but she is not representative of most trans women. She is a rich white celebrity. But Sophia comes from a similar world to Caitlyn’s, and even credits Caitlyn with inspiring her to go forward with her transition, something that she’d hesitated to do because she hadn’t felt able to relate to other famous trans women. Speaking to RadarOnline , Sophia Hutchins’ mother, Amy, refers to Caitlyn as being very “supportive.” Amy herself says that she’s proud of her daughter for speaking publicly about her transition — as Sophia shared the news in her university newspaper. “It’s pretty awesome,” Amy said, praising her daughter’s courage. “She’s got a lot of guts. … Caitlyn’s got a lot of guts, too.” “Caitlyn has been a real supportive friend to her,” Amy says, though also shooting down rumors that Caitlyn is paying for Sophia’s current lifestyle. That said, and despite Sophia’s numerous photos from Caitlyn’s home, Amy says that her daughter is not living with Caitlyn on a permanent basis. Amy uses the word “friend” there, but that’s not quite the same as a denial that there might be something more romantic going on between the two.
