Gotye Mashes Together "Somebody That I Used to Know" Covers

Carly Rae Jepsen has owned the summer music scene. Case in point: this album full of Call Me Maybe covers . But Gotye has been right there with the 26-year old Canadian, as his “Somebody That I Used to Know” has remained near the top of the charts for weeks and has elicited its own share of user-made YouTube versions. Now, the artist himself has given fans one place to listen to snippets from each one. Said Gotye of the following video, which features various musical renditions of the hit track: “Reluctant as I am to add to the mountain of interpretations of Somebody That I Used To Know seemingly taking over their own area of the Internet, I couldn’t resist the massive remixability that such a large, varied yet connected bundle of source material offered.”

Evelyn Lozada on Chad Johnson Arrest: Domestic Violence is NOT Okay!

Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada is speaking out for the first time since Chad Johnson’s arrest for head-butting her , and she’s not exactly downplaying events, standing by her husband or calling it a misunderstanding. She’s pissed. Evelyn told ET in a statement Tuesday: “It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday.” “I am deeply disappointed that Chad failed to take responsibility for his actions and has made false accusations; it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs.” “Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I’m grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.” Chad Johnson (formerly Ochocinco), has been charged with domestic battery and cut by the Miami Dolphins . VH1 canceled their reality show as well. Johnson reportedly told police that it was Evelyn Lozada who head butted him, not the reverse, but the 911 call placed by their next door neighbor after the Saturday scuffle certainly does not leave that impression. Warner Bros Passes $1 Billion at Domestic Box Office The milestone has been reached 12 years in a row, which makes Warner Bros. the only studio to have accomplished the feat. The Dark Knight Rises lead this year’s pack with $304M in its first 12 days. Also scoring well is Magic Mike ($108.5M), Deadline reports . Prometheus Sequel Planned by Ridley Scott Scott is moving ahead with plans for a sequel, his return to the Alien universe. Paz Vega Joins Grace of Monaco as Maria Callas Vega will play the haughty opera singer in the film, which stars Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly. The director of Edith Piaf biopic La vie en rose , Olivier Dahan, will direct Grace of Monaco from a script by Arash Amel. The story centers on a six-month period in 1962 when Monaco had a dispute with France and Princess Grace worked behind the scenes to prevent a coup. THR reports . Christopher Eccleston to Play Thor 2 Villain Eccleston will star opposite Chris Hemsworth in the told of Malekith The Accursed in Marvel Studios’ Thor: The Dark World . Malekith is a “super-villain in the Marvel Universe, the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, Deadline reports . Broadway to Dim Lights in Memory of Gore Vidal Broadway theaters will dim their lights August 3rd in memory of Gore Vidal who died this week . His play The Best Man is currently playing at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater. The cast is dedicating its performances next tweak to his memory, The Guardian reports .

Kate Gosselin on Jon Poverty Claims: Come ON!

Jon Gosselin’s claims he’s broke and can’t pay rent because he has to pay child support. This is apparently news to his ex-wife Kate Gosselin. According to her attorney, he’s not even on the hook anymore. Cheryl Young, who has represented Kate in her ongoing legal battle with her ex, says Jon no longer has to pay Kate a dime for their kids. Says Young: “I read Jon’s statement and was quite surprised to read that he claims to be struggling to keep his child support payments current.” “As of April 27, 2012, Kate voluntarily relieved Jon Gosselin of all current and future child support obligations for their eight children,” she added. The former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star claimed yesterday that he is strapped for cash and fearful of his ability to pay support – and stay out of jail. “I can’t afford to pay my rent and the domestic-relations staff tells me they will put me in jail unless I pay child support,” Jon told Star Magazine . “I am a single father who’s trying to make ends meet during a recession.” Kate’s lawyer disagrees with his claims , reiterating, “Kate and Jon talked and worked through all of these issues and she withdrew the child support.” Young says he still must pay any amount left over from before that, “only paying a small amount on arrears” on what he owed prior to April 27. Kate’s attorney defended her actions, as well: “The last thing Kate ever wanted was for the children to see their father in dire financial straits.” For her part, Kate says she’s made peace with Jon and the two are on much better terms these days, so his comments came a bit out of left field.

Pop quiz–Can you name at least two current black action stars, excluding Will Smith and Denzel Washington?  Or the last time you saw an interracial couple on the big screen where the storyline didn’t revolve around the color of their skin and/or didn’t end as tragically as a Shakespearean play? Columnist J.F. Sargent at humor site, Cracked.com explores some of the racial and sexist stereotypes Hollywood  just can’t seem to let go of.  Even with a black man as president, mainstream audiences aren’t comfortable or just don’t care to watch black actor/actresses unless we are in certain supportive roles: the sidekick, the BBF (Best Black Friend), or the domestic ( The Help ).  The author states: So how does this play out in real movies? Black characters end up in supporting roles, instead of being well-developed characters. They’re just there so we can “ judge the other (white) characters by how they treat them .” In other words, we certainly don’t root for racist characters, and we’ll boo racist stereotypes. But our open-mindedness usually stops at the point of actually paying to see a black leading man. Other than Will Smith. REVIEW: The Lie Explores the Self-Defeat of Committing by Halves — But Only By Half

First-time director Joshua Leonard’s The Lie stretches the truth of its source material — an obsidian fragment from author T.C. Boyle, published by the New Yorker in 2008 — until its every glint is polished to a self-affirming glow. There’s a dark crackle to Boyle’s first-person account of a young man compressed to the point of fracture by the drudgery of his work as a tape logger at a film production house and the shackling disappointment of his domestic lot: He has a law student wife and an infant at home. Unable to face another day at the digital mine, the young man’s avoidant, off-white fibbing gives way to an inky whopper, and his sins soon yield a shopping bag full of money. If two decades of Coen brothers movies have taught us anything, it’s this: As good as a gun, that thing’s going to go off.

Kate Plus 8: CANCELED By TLC!

Kate Gosselin’s days as a reality star are over. After years of providing insight into her domestic bliss with Jon Gosselin, then the ugly demise of her relationship with Jon Gosselin, as she raised their eight children all the while, TLC has pulled the plug on her show. R.I.P. Kate Plus 8 . “TLC has decided not to renew another season of Kate Plus 8,” a network rep said . “By the end of this season Kate Plus 8 will have hit the 150 episode mark (including Jon & Kate Plus 8 ); an exceptional milestone.” “TLC hopes to check in with Kate Gosselin and the family periodically.” Read: Probably never, but that sounds kind of polite at least. Sad news for Kate, but probably good news for the kids, who have been scarred for life as it is. Many times over. Besides, she’ll have more free time now, which should help her efforts to start dating again . There’s a silver lining.

Mel Gibson Domestic Abuse Claims: Dropped By Oksana Grigorieva!

In a shocking move, Oksana Grigorieva dropped her domestic violence claim against Mel Gibson at a court hearing today in the couple’s custody case. Last month, Mel pleaded no contest to battery, ending that chapter of the pair’s legal circus. But the battle for custody of Lucia, 1, remains unresolved. In fact, it’s been so contentious that today’s move came out of left field, as Oksana actually extended an olive branch in an attempt to settle the case . Oksana’s lawyer, Dan Horowitz, told Judge Scott Gordon that they would no longer claim Mel’s alleged violence as grounds to strip him of custody. Mel’s lawyer, Stephen Kolodny and the judge were visibly shocked. The domestic violence protective order Oksana obtained – prohibiting Mel from contacting or harassing her – has also been terminated as of today. Sources close to Oksana Grigorieva say she would like to be able to communicate directly with Mel, rather than going through intermediaries. No word on whether Mel feels the same way, but it’s a good first step in putting this ugly mess behind them for the good of their little girl. The only potential bad news? Kristian Otto Herzog’s book won’t sell nearly as well if these two are actually getting along now. Poor guy.

Miami Dolphins Football Player Brandon Marshall Stabbed By Wife

Miami Dolphins player, Brandon Marshall, was rushed to the hospital last night after he was stabbed by his wife, Michi Nagomi-Marshall. The two have been married for about a year now, and to the public, seemed to have some what of a “happy relationship”.  Brandon told police that he “tripped and fell on a vase”, however, Michi actually confessed and admitted to stabbing her husband, claiming that it was self defense. Sounds like an episode of “Snapped” to me! Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time the couple has found themselves in a domestic situation. Apparently, a year prior to the couple’s wedding, they were both arrested after someone saw them in a fight,  “kicking and punching each other”.  Brandon was also involved in another domestic situation with an ex-girlfriend before dating Michi in 2006 in which he was suspended from the team for violating the league’s policy. Brandon’s recovery will take about 2-3 weeks while Michi remains at the Broward County Jail on $75,000 bond. She faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. OUCH! According to TMZ, Brandon’s agent spoke out on the situation, stating; “This is a very difficult time for Brandon and family, thankfully he will make a full recovery … We simply ask that his privacy is respected.” I always wonder what causes a woman to snap to the point where she would want to stab her husband. It leaves you to wonder what actually went down between to two to push her to the point of physically harming the man she loves. SMH domestic violence is never okay! Employees of Flava Flav say they can’t cash their work checks! While Flava Flav insists that these employees just want him out of town and are “jealous” the workers beg to differ. “A number of people told WQAD in Clinton, IA they couldn’t cash their checks, with one being for only $150. One employee claims she even went to the bank the check was issued from, but even they wouldn’t cash it! Co-owner Nick Cimino told the station thy had a “credit card glitch” at one point, but everything is fine now. He also chalked it up to disgruntled ex employees. Flav himself said, “It’s not true information, first of all. And second of all, maybe these are people that’s just jealous of me being here and probably want to see me out.
