Maria Menounos Eliminated From ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Despite Perfect Score

Remaining three celebrities — William Levy, Katherine Jenkins and Donald Driver — will continue competing for mirror ball trophy next week. By Kelley L. Carter Maria Menounos and Derek Hough on “Dancing With the Stars” Photo: ABC The truth is, anyone’s name could have been called to head home from ABC’s hit show “Dancing With the Stars” on Tuesday night and it would have been a shock. On Monday night, most of the contestants scored well with the judges. Although opera singer Katherine Jenkins has been a top performer on the show all season, she made a few missteps in one of her Monday night performances — and subsequently beat herself up about it. So folks may not have been too surprised to hear her name called as this week’s eliminated dancer. Instead, it was one of the night’s top scorers who got the boot. It ultimately came down to TV journalist Maria Menounos and her partner Derek Hough and NFL star Donald Driver and his partner Peta Murgatroyd. Menounos was the one to go, despite having a near-perfect score on Monday night. The judges salivated over the Argentine tango she performed as her first dance, rewarding her with perfect 10s all around. For her second performance, she took on the jive, and the judges actually named her the winner of the night — and possibly the competition itself. When her name was called Tuesday night, Menounos said, “I learned so many things — how strong I was, to persevere … I want to thank everyone here. I want to thank Derek and my family and everyone who voted for us.” Next week, the remaining three celebrities — Latin heartthrob William Levy and his partner Cheryl Burke, Driver and Murgatroyd, and Jenkins and Mark Ballas will compete for the mirror ball trophy.

Is Kristin Wiig Leaving SNL?

‘When I do leave, it will be the hardest thing,’ Wiig says about her eventual departure from the show. By Gil Kaufman Kristen Wiig on SNL Photo: NBC No more Target Lady. No More Gillie. No more boozy Kathie Lee Gifford. No more loopy Bjork. On Monday, break-out “Saturday Night Live” star Kristen Wiig heightened speculation that her seven-year run on the show may be coming to an end. Just days after rumors surfaced that Wiig, Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg could be flying the coop at the end of this season, Wiig was interviewed on Alec Baldwin’s popular podcast on Monday and hinted that the end may be nigh. “I don’t know,” Wiig said when Baldwin asked if her run on “SNL” could be “winding down” soon. “Everyone has to leave…and I will say that when I do leave, it’s not because I’m sick of it and not because I see something better or anything like that. It’s just that it’s time. When I do leave, it will be the hardest thing.” Even as she became one of the most valuable cast members of the show over the past few years with her many go-for-broke characters and spot-on impressions of everyone from Lana Del Rey to Kris Jenner and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Wiig has tasted the fruits of big-screen success as well thanks to the smash “Bridesmaids” .
She not only co-starred in the film, but also co-wrote it with pal Annie Mumolo, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The 38-year-old actress, who appeared in bit parts in films such as “Knocked Up,” “Adventureland,” “Whip It!” and “Date Night,” also told Baldwin that she’s got some big plans on the horizon that don’t involve late-night TV. “People are always so surprised when I want to do dramatic stuff,” she said. “There are a couple of things that I’m looking at doing next that aren’t comedies at all. One of them is really not at all.” Though she would not cough up the details on said dramatic project, Baldwin tweaked her by saying that the versatile comic would have “absolutely no prospects whatsoever” when she left the show. “It’s a really ballsy move on your part because who the F is going to hire you?” he joked about the “SNL” star that executive producer and show creator Lorne Michaels has called one of the top three actors to ever appear on the show. “I don’t know. I may go back to open up a canoe shop,” she fired back. According to her IMDB page, Wiig has a number of movies in the can, including vocal work on “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” as well as roles in “The Comedian,” “Freezing People is Easy,” a re-make of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” “Imogene” and “Revenge for Jolly!” Though an unnamed insider told Us Weekly that Wiig, Sudeikis and Samberg are leaving at season’s end and that a pal said, “Kristen was talking about leaving a while ago … with her movie success, it’s no surprise,” a spokesperson for Wiig and Sudeikis squashed the talk. “There is no truth to this rumor on both Jason and Kristen’s behalf,” the spokesperson said. ‘Dancing With The Stars’: Donald Driver Rules Rock Week

Melissa Gilbert is taken to hospital after injuring herself during performance. By Kelley L. Carter Donald Driver on “Dancing With the Stars” Photo: ABC For the fourth week of this season of “Dancing With the Stars,” the celebrities rocked it out. Glam rock-star style was everywhere — bedazzled outfits, eyeliner galore, tight leather and familiar rock tunes were all over the ballroom on Monday night’s telecast. The night’s top scorer was NFL superstar Donald Driver, who danced away with 27 points out of 30, impressing judges with his shirtless dance routine. Here’s how the others fared during Rock Week: Sherri Shepherd and Val Chmerkovskiy The TV talk-show co-host did the tango. Judges thought that despite a few issues with her feet, she did a decent job. Judge Bruno Tonioli said she needed to be sharper, and Carrie Ann Inaba told her, “It was good, but I think what was lacking was your normal exuberance.” 21/30 Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas Normally, the opera singer hangs right at the top of the leader board. This week, judges thought that her paso doble was unrefined. Head judge Len Goodman said that her performance “failed to deliver.” Tonioli said she was missing definition but that she set loose “a whirlwind of fury.” 24/30 Jaleel White and Kym Johnson The actor danced the tango to the Rolling Stones hit “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” and he failed to impress judges as he did the first week. Goodman said that White needed to attack the dance more. Inaba said it was “funky and weird.” 22/30 Melissa Gilbert and Maks Chmerkovskiy Her score didn’t reflect it, but judges liked her bad-girl take with her paso doble routine. Tonioli said her sexy pose was “hot-blooded,” and Inaba said it was her best showing yet. She apparently slipped at one point during the dance — the TV audience didn’t notice — but before the end of the show, host Tom Beregon announced that she had injured herself and was taken to the hospital. 22/30 Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd Driver was the dancing king of the night. The wide receiver’s paso doble was soundtracked to Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze,” and judges found it to be sexy (he danced shirtless) and raunchy — all good things. 27/30 Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus The soul legend danced to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and judges were less than impressed. She landed in the bottom of the leader board for her tango. Judges said that it didn’t quite come together for her, but Inaba said that it was “by far your most ambitious routine.” 20/30 William Levy and Cheryl Burke Judges didn’t care too much for the hot Latin actor’s jive, but their disdain could barely be heard over the audience screams. Inaba told him he needed to work on staying focused, but added, “You have something special.” 22/30 Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower The Disney star impressed judges with his Viennese waltz, and Inaba said that it was “cute, like watching the climax of a Disney movie.” 26/30 Maria Menounos and Derek Hough The TV journalist danced through the pain — she has stress fractures in her feet, and said in her rehearsal segment, “My feet have been killing me and I’m afraid something’s really wrong” — but she tangoed anyway, and judges loved what they saw. Inaba applauded the chemistry the two have together. 26/30 Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff The pop singer rounded out the last of the celebrity routines, dancing the tango, and once again, judges didn’t care too much for what he turned in. Tonioli said it was “a little messy in the corner.” 23/30 Which celebrity are you rooting for on “Dancing With the Stars”? Tell us in the comments!

Dancing With the Stars Week 3: Who Was the Best?

Lindsay Lohan has arrived in New York City to begin rehearsals for Saturday Night Live, and while she’s in the Big Apple, she’ll be interviewed on The Today Show. She is grateful for the opportunity and won’t let (executive producer) Lorne Michaels down.” “Lindsay has been a longtime fan of Saturday Night Live and is incredibly excited to work with the amazing cast and writers,” her rep, Steve Honig, adds. Last week, Lohan got a glowing report and praise from the judge handling her theft case. Dancing With the Stars Spring 2012 Cast: Revealed!

Jack Wagner, Sherri Shepherd, Maria Menounos, Gavin DeGraw and Melissa Gilbert are among those competing on Dancing With the Stars this spring. A pair of sports stars – Green Bay Packers wideout Donald Driver and tennis legend Martina Navratilova – will also be lacing up their dancing shoes. Perhaps more importantly, Maksim Chmerkovskiy says he’ll be back! DeGraw is up for some serious double duty, as he will also continue his current U.S. tour for the first few weeks of the season, if he can last that long. Gavin’s pro partner, Karina Smirnoff, will most likely join him on tour so they can practice, but none of his concerts conflict with DWTS air dates. Wagner, Heather Locklear’s ex, will compete amid a minor scandal, while Menounos and Shepherd represent the entertainment show contingent.
