Golden Globes Red Carpet: Watch For Spider-Man, Jack Sparrow, More

MTV News can’t wait to chat with David Fincher about ‘Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,’ Christopher Nolan about ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and more tonight. By Eric Ditzian Andrew Garfield in “Spider-Man” Photo: Columbia Pictures As all of Hollywood descends on the Beverly Hilton Hotel hours from now for the 68th Golden Globe Awards, MTV News will be at the center of the action. We’ll be reporting live from the red carpet, from the show itself, and then from the celeb-packed afterparties hosted by HBO, NBC and the Weinstein Company. Hollywood Crush will kick things off with a red-carpet live blog, followed by MTV Movies Blog with a live blog of the actual show. And, of course, you can find all the latest news from the entire event at MTVNews.com. It’s set to be a crazy night, chock-full of news about awards season and other high-profile projects currently in the works. Here are a few of the folks we’re most psyched to chat with on the carpet: Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone : These “Spider-Man” co-stars have each been nominated for acting awards, though neither are likely to come out on top. No matter! Self-deprecating kids that they are, the stars will be pumped just to be invited to the party. Expect some comments from each on the brand-new first-look photo of Garfield in his Spidey gear . James Franco and Anne Hathaway : Both are up for acting awards, and we’re wondering if they’ll be able to calm their nerves long enough to take notes from Ricky Gervais about how to knock an emcee gig outta the park. We’ll be asking them for teasers about what they have planned for their Oscar hosting gig : musical numbers, digital shorts, witty barbs at the expense of their A-list colleagues? David Fincher : He’s the favorite to win Best Director at the Globes — as well as at the Oscars — but “The Social Network” isn’t the only flick of his that has caught our attention as of late. This week, the first official photos of Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” hit the Web. And when it comes to Fincher’s adaptation of that international best-selling crime thriller, there’s truly nothing we don’t want to know. Christopher Nolan : The “Inception” director might not steal a Globe statuette from Fincher, but he deserves yet another round of applause for the herculean accomplishment of making a kick-ass action flick out of such a WTF concept. He’s at the top of his game, and we couldn’t be more excited about what he’s planning for “The Dark Knight Rises.” Will the tight-lipped director spill any secrets about that upcoming project? Stay tuned! Johnny Depp : The guy is the front-runner to win best comedy/musical actor for “Alice in Wonderland,” but the Los Angeles Times floated an interesting hypothetical for the mercurial, normally above-the-fray actor: What if neither of his nominations — for both “Alice” and “The Tourist” — translate into victory? After losing for “Pirates of the Caribbean” in 2004, Depp reportedly stormed off “in a huff,” never to return. We’ll be looking for some insight into his pre-show mind-set on the red carpet, as well as some juicy details about his latest “Pirates” movie, due later this year. 9 Other ’80s Games That Hollywood Might as Well Turn Into Movies

Sit down. Here’s an actual quote from the Variety story about 20th Century Fox going ahead with an adaptation of the Atari game Missile Command . “With Missile Command , the scribes have little to adapt beyond a title to build a plot around and a Cold War-heavy scenario of players having to defend their cities from being destroyed by a rain of missiles.” So, yeah, maybe James Cameron was right : Hollywood is completely out of ideas, unless they’re related to ’80s video and/or board games. Unfortunately, between Battleship , Stretch Armstrong , Asteroids , Clue and the hotly anticipated View Master , it seems Tinsel Town is even running out of games to adapt. Ahead, Movieline offers studio executives nine they might want to consider. Because at this point, why not?

The Top 3 Stereotypes of the Week: Dear Landlord

Movieline’s intrepid Stereotypes Dept. has returned after an extended Thanksgiving vacation to pinpoint some of the more clichéd character generalizations made on television this week to both great and grisly effect. One was a penny-pinching landlord, one a high school delinquent and the third, a melodramatic soap star. Can you guess to which shows they belonged?

Rooney Mara and Her Nipple Ring Could Apparently Use a Break

Girl With the Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara broke her silence from the Stockholm set with what will no doubt go down as the Great Nipple Ring Communiqué of 2010: “It’s -9 degrees Celsius. 37 takes down, only about 42 more to go. Every time [David Fincher] says, ‘Okay, last one,’ I fall for it. Every. Single. Time. If only I could get this damn shrug right, then maybe I could go inside and my nipple ring would have time to thaw out…” Hmm. Well, lob her into the front of the Oscar ’11 pack, what’s the harm? What’s On: Mad Hatting on Project Runway

Tonight’s Project Runway is perfect for the haughty niece in your family who never leaves the house without a nicely canted chapeau. It’ll at least get her to shut up about gluten for 90 minutes.

Spider-Man Pulls a Girl with the Dragon Tattoo While Looking for Female Lead

Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot has taken a page out of David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo talent search by pairing one American with four foreign-born actresses in an attempt to cast Peter Parker’s love interest (who, FYI, isn’t Mary Jane). The current shortlist : Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots, Lily Collins, Ophelia Lovibond and Emma Roberts. ( Mary Elizabeth Winstead was on the list, too, but unfortunately didn’t make the cut.) Based on previous experience , expect the role to go to Roberts. [ THR /Heat Vision ]

More Kardashians Kome to Defense of Kendall Jenner

Following a firestorm created by her bikini-based pictorial last month, Kendall Jenner released a well-reasoned, mature statement that quieted most critics. Father Bruce Jenner then came out and defended his 14-year old daughter. Not much has been mentioned about the photos since, but you wouldn’t expect the Kardashians to not milk a publicity opportunity for every second and ounce of sympathy they can, would you? With that in mind, Khloe Kardashian and Kris Jenner have now spoken out about the pics. “She looks better than most 20-year-olds in their bikinis,” Khloe told Us Weekly , making an irrelevant point and then adding: “In the modeling world, being 14 is actually middle age. Kimora Lee Simmons was walking for Chanel in Paris at age 12; no one commented when she did that. So if you want to speak in modeling perspective, you have to live in a modeling world. Not that many people are putting it in that perspective. They’re just thinking, ‘Oh, Kendall Jenner. Let’s talk some crap.'” Now, for Kris Jenner’s take: “One of her lifelong passions is to be a model, and it’s something she’s really excited about. [ The bikini photos ] are tasteful, she’s covered up completely and they’re not provocative. They’re just gorgeous shots.” Look, Kardashians, no one is accusing Kendall of being ugly. Her looks aren’t exactly the point. No one is accusing Montana Fishburne of being ugly, either, and she claims porn has been her lifelong passion . Sometimes, though, parents must step in when their children aren’t old enough to make adult decisions. That’s all anyone is saying here.
