In a shocking announcement, Grey’s Anatomy producer Shonda Rhimes confirmed today that Isaiah Washington will check back in to her ABC series to help bid farewell to Sandra Oh in May. The actor departed the series at the conclusion of Season 3 amidst a firestorm he created by referring to then-colleague T.R. Knight by a gay slur. Washington’s character, Dr. Preston Burke, was written off the drama when he left Oh’s Cristina at the altar. Oh, meanwhile, said last year that she would be leaving the drama following Grey’s Anatomy Season 10 . Said Rhimes in a statement: “It’s important to me that Cristina’s journey unfolds exactly as it should. Burke is vital to that journey – he gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang.” No word yet on what brings Burke back into the fold or how Rhimes will send Yang on her way. But it’s been presumed for awhile now that the surgeon will not be killed off. Washington starred briefly on NBC’s Bionic Woman after getting the boot from Grey’s Anatomy, but will soon pick up his first regular TV role in years when he appears on The CW’s The 100 .

The network confirmed the Breaking Bad spinoff and that a licensing deal has been reached between Sony Pictures Television and creator Vince Gilligan. The one-hour drama will serve as a prequel, focusing on “the evolution” of Saul “before he ever became Walter White’s lawyer,” according to AMC. Saul’s fate – and everyone else’s – remains a mystery as Breaking Bad nears the finish line September 29. Only three episodes of the drama remain.

But the location was a bit out of the ordinary — as he made press rounds for his new album, “Hall of Fame,” he spent a good chunk of Thursday afternoon handing out backpacks to kids in a building normally used as a farmers market. A couple thousand students crowded Detroit Public Schools’ back-to-school fair in Eastern Market, where they could learn about careers, play educational games, do science experiments and receive supplies. Organized by the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, new MBA students had just three days after arriving for their first semester to plan the event. “DPS needs this more than anybody,” said Big Sean (real name: Sean Anderson), who recently launched the Sean Anderson Foundation to help young people in Detroit. “Hopefully this is just the first of many events we can do to … help give back.” “I wanted to make sure that when I looked back at my life I did something that I was proud of, that I left a legacy,” he added. “Of course I make a lot of fun music, all sorts of songs, but I’m definitely going to make songs to inspire, to do my part for the community, especially for the kids in Detroit.”
