One of the major complaints Black shoppers who want to buy from Black businesses have is that they just can’t find Black-owned businesses. But now a new Google Chrome Extension aims to help consumers find Black businesses easy. BuyBlack was created by Angie Coleman, an account manager at San Francisco-based CodeHS, and it lists Black-owned alternatives to online shoppers’ favorite retail sites. Here’s how it works: Users install the app then a Black solidarity fist appears in the corner of their browsers, which then expands into a drop down list of sites from Black-owned businesses with similar product offerings whenever they search for items online. There are products and services ranging from makeup and clothing to home goods, art, vacation rentals, food, and more. A new list from Forbes shows that the highest paid actresses make much less than actors, but Black actresses don’t even get in the top 10. Jennifer Lawrence landed in the top spot for a second year in a row, pulling in $46 million in the year from June 1, 2015 to June 1, 2016… [ MadameNoire ] #BlackLeadMatters: NYT Op-Ed On Lead Poisoning Brings Out The Racists A columnist for the New York Times penned an opinion piece titled “Black Lead Matters” which aims at the lead industry’s carelessness in eliminating the instances of lead poisoning. The op-ed also makes mention that Black communities have largely been struck with the issue, which has sparked a robust conversation on Twitter Friday morning. Paul Krugman’s piece isn’t especially about the issues in Flint, Mich. or the truth that many inner-city dwellings still have issues with lead. Instead, it focuses on the lead poisoning policies of presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, both of whom have not made the issue a central focus of the race.
