Duck Dynasty Season 5 Episode 5 Recap: I’m the Redneck Emeril Lagasse! BAM!

Last night on Duck Dynasty Season 5 Episode 5 , Willie and Jase Robertson got into a beef – and later, an epic showdown – over who makes better burgers. Jase concedes that Willie is unquestionably the better burger “eater,” for obvious reasons, but that fact does not make him the “Burger Commander.” And so the burger-off begins, with the brothers heading to the store for ingredients and cracking jokes every step of the way. Who will prevail? The local burger place, as it turned out. When Godwin and Martin won’t give your product the thumbs-up, you know you have issues, and that was the result for both of the Robertson brothers. Willie’s “Super Stack” burger, or “mountain o’ beef,” whichever you might call it, actually scared Godwin off. Yes, John Godwin was not impressed. Jase didn’t fare much better, overcooking his to the point where Martin declares both burgers inedible before the gang went back to the burger joint. Leave it to the professionals, fellas. The side plot this week was Jep scouting for materials for Jessica’s decoupage project, which Willie and Jase would no doubt have a field day with. “Decoupage. It’s a French word. I know it sounds kinda dirty,” says Jep of his gorgeous wife’s hobby, and if someone told his brothers, we’d pay to see it. Phil Robertson, as luck would have it, is underrated as a hoarder. He and Miss Kay have a ton of stuff on that property, including a shed packed with newspaper. Seriously, it’s like an entire shed filled with old newspapers. Somehow, Phil convinces Jep to head to the recycling center while Jessica and Kay get down to decoupage, gluing and varnishing paper on a table. Soaked in rat pee or not, their final product will no doubt blow away Willie and Jase’s attempt at cooking. No offense to the self-proclaimed Redneck Emeril. Duck Dynasty and American Idol Return to Low Ratings

They both introduced new characters, they were both heavily promoted… and they both tanked in the ratings. American Idol and Duck Dynasty returned to the airwaves last night, but the returns weren’t especially triumphant. Idol, for example, garnered 15 million total viewers, but only a 4.5 rating among 18-49-year olds, which set a record low for the series. This, despite America falling in love with Harry Connick, Jr. Harry Connick Jr. Dominates Idol Premiere Duck Dynasty Season 5 , meanwhile, introduced viewers to Rebecca Robertson. But the opener was down 3.5 million total households from its Season 4 premiere a year ago. Among the aforementioned key demographic, ratings fell by 33 percent. Could fans have been turned off by the Phil Robertson controversy ? It’s possible. Watch Duck Dynasty online now if you failed to catch either of the return episodes last night.

Duck Dynasty Returning With Phil Robertson in 2014; Suspension Lifted By A&E

Despite much controversy over the past two weeks, Duck Dynasty will return on schedule next year, with Phil Robertson an active participant, A&E announced. The company suspended Robertson indefinitely December 18 following controversial anti-gay comments the 67-year-old made in an interview with GQ . Duck Dynasty had been on hiatus when the comments went public; the show is set to return in January and to resume filming new episodes this spring. None of that will change. The network, “after discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups,” says the show will go on. The Robertson family admitted that the anti-gay comments were coarse, but criticized the suspension and implied they would not film without Phil. Since the national controversy erupted, Phil Robertson has been defiant, reiterating his stance on gays , sin and homosexuality at a Bible study group. He has been roundly criticized by gay rights groups, but supporters began demanding his reinstatement and even planning a Chick-Phil-A Day . The network thus found itself in the midst of a PR nightmare, and ultimately decided to distance itself from Phil’s views while still bringing back the show. A&E’s statement on the decision, released Friday, reads: As a global media content company, A&E Networks’ core values are centered around creativity, inclusion and mutual respect. We believe it is a privilege for our brands to be invited into people’s home and we operate with a strong sense of integrity and deep commitment to these principals. That is why we reacted so quickly and strongly to a recent interview with Phil Robertson. While Phil’s comments made in the interview reflect his personal views based on his own beliefs, and his own personal journey, he and his family have publicly stated they regret the “coarse language” he used and the misinterpretation of his core beliefs based only on the article. He also made it clear he would “never incite or encourage hate.” We at A&E Networks expressed our disappointment with his statements in the article, and reiterate that they are not views we hold. Phil Robertson Suspension Lifted But Duck Dynasty is not a show about one man’s views. It resonates with a large audience because it is a show about family… a family that America has come to love. As you might have seen in many episodes, they come together to reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness. These are three values that we at A&E Networks also feel strongly about. So after discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups, A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family. We will also use this moment to launch a national public service campaign (PSA) promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance among all people, a message that supports our core values as a company, and the values found in Duck Dynasty. These PSAs will air across our entire portfolio . And that’s that. While there may be backlash and protests as a result of its decision, A&E was going to get that regardless, and is standing by its cash cow. Do you think their statement and justification goes far enough? Or did Robertson deserve more than a wrist slap? Comment and vote in our survey below: A&E lifting Robertson’s suspension: Right or wrong?   Right! Glad this ordeal is over with … Wrong! He should be off the air! View Poll »

Charlie Sheen RIPS Phil Robertson: Apologize to Gay Community OR ELSE!

Charlie Sheen is TAKING IT to Phil Robertson, saying he had better apologize for his crude anti-gay comments or face a media storm like he wouldn’t believe. As reported earlier, A&E made the controversial decision to suspend Robertson from Duck Dynasty largely because of the gay employees at the network. Clearly, Sheen agrees with that move, but he’s not satisfied. Days after Phil likened called gays immoral sinners (among many other things, in much coarser wording) in GQ, the actor tore into him in a Twitter tirade : “Hey Mallard brained Phil Robertson! you have offended and hurt so many dear friends of mine, who DO NOT have the voice or the outreach that I do.” “Well news flash shower-dodger, I will speak loudly and clearly for ALL of them.” “So, just when your desperately sub evolved ass thought the pressure was off, you are in the crosshairs of a MaSheen style media beat down.” (I’ll try to keep the big words to a minimum as not to confuse you).” “Your statements were and are abhorrently and mendaciously unforgivable.” “The idea that you have a job outside of dirt-clod stacking is a miracle. the only ‘Dynasty’ you are attached to might be the re-runs of that dated show.” “The only thing you should ever be in charge of building is a hole in the ground the exact size of your head.” “Perhaps your beard would fit as well if you plucked out the army of scabies and bull weevils sequestered deep in it’s sarcophagus of dander and weasel pelts.” “Shame on you. You’re the only surviving brain donor I’ve ever known.” Sheen, 47, concluded by demanding that Robertson, 67, make “serious amends” to those he “radically offended,” and that he is “repulsed” by him. Duck Dynasty Cast Issues Statement, Stands By Phil Robertson Phil Robertson Suspension, Anti-Gay Backlash A&E suspended Phil Robertson over the comments made in the January issue of GQ, in which he shared his thoughts on homosexuality and morality. “Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong,” he said. “Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. “Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers.” “They won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.” The extremely popular Duck Dynasty cast has since issued a statement insinuating that they won’t keep doing the show without patriarch Phil at the helm. Robertson has been suspended, not fired, and the show has not been canceled. Several marathons are taking place this holiday season, in fact. If we had to guess, the network is hoping Phil will apologize for his remarks – not his religious believes, but the way he packaged them in this case. Clearly, Charlie Sheen is among those who think that should be a given. What do you think: Should Phil apologize for his comments?   Yes. I respect his free speech and religious views, but he offended people. No. It’s his opinion! Don’t bow to the pressure, Phil! View Poll » And choose your side :   Team Charlie Team Phil View Poll »

Phil Robertson: Sermon Video From 2010 Shows Anti-Gay Views Aren’t News

Additional evidence of Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson’s anti-gay views has surfaced in the wake of his controversial GQ interview and suspension by A&E. Video of a sermon given by Phil at Pennsylvania’s Berean Bible Church’s Wild Game Supper in 2010 shows Robertson as fired up as ever on the topic. The Duck Commander founder can be seen dressed in camouflage, literally thumping a Bible, talking about sexual deviants and the lack of morality in America. Phil Robertson Sermon “First they say, ‘There is no God. Get him out of your mind,'” he says in the sermon. “Then they bow down to birds, animals and reptiles, and each other.” “And the first thing you see coming out of them is gross sexual immorality. They will dishonor their bodies with one another, degrade each other.” “Uh, is that going on in the United States of America? Look around. God’s not there… And boy is there some immorality going on around here. Does it get worse?” “Women with women, men with men, they committed indecent acts with one another, and they received in themselves the due penalty for their perversions.” “They’re full of murder, envy, strife, hatred. They are insolent, arrogant, God-haters. They are heartless, they are faithless, they are senseless, they are ruthless.” “They invent ways of doing evil. That’s what you have 235 years, roughly, after your forefathers founded the country. So what are you gonna do Pennsylvania?” “Just run with them? You’re doing to die. Don’t forget that.” The above video definitely fits the portrait painted by GQ , and raises the question of whether A&E is being dishonest for condemning Phil now. Duck Dynasty Cast Issues Statement, Stands By Phil Robertson He’s certainly unfiltered, and has been long before Duck Dynasty was the highest rated show in cable history. Did they expect anything less from him? Then again, as essentially an employee of their network, his crude comments to GQ are surely looked at differently than those from a 2010 sermon. In GQ , Phil said homosexuality is a sin and likened it to bestiality. Still, he insists that as a Christian he does not judge, nor would he incite hatred. “We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell,” he said. “That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus.” “Whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists,” Robertson went on, he said, “We’ll let God sort ’em out later, you see what I’m saying?” After public outcry over the interview, A&E suspended Robertson indefinitely from the reality series due to his comments about the LGBT community. The controversy has led to many people, from celebrities to regular people, choosing sides and taking to social media to support or lash out at Robertson. In response to the controversy, the Robertson family issued a statement, essentially saying the show won’t go on without patriarch Phil at the helm. Should Phil have been suspended for his comments?   Yes, obviously. He was way over the line. Maybe. I can see why A&E decided to. No way. He’s just stating his opinions, people! View Poll »

Phil Robertson Suspension From Duck Dynasty: Right or Wrong?

Phil Robertson has been suspended indefinitely from A&E’s Duck Dynasty amid the intense backlash over his recent anti-gay comments in GQ. The family patriarch is famously outspoken and never affair to ruffle feathers (excuse the pun), but these remarks were particularly eyebrow-raising. Many were offended, but others are attacking A&E, saying Phil Robertson’s anti-gay comments are merely statements of his religious and personal beliefs. Phil Robertson Suspension, Anti-Gay Backlash Sarah Palin was one of many fans to take to social media in response, charging that the Duck Dynasty star’s suspension is an attack on freedom of speech: “Free speech is an endangered species. The ‘intolerants’ hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us.” Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal also voiced support for his embattled constituent: “Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana.” “The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with. I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV.” “In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive. But I also acknowledge that this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views.” “In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended.” Duck Dynasty: Phil Robertson Under Attack Over Anti-Gay Comments Many fans of the series took to Twitter to voice similar thoughts, but juts as social media users expressed relief that A&E took action against the star. GLAAD praised A&E’s decision to suspend Robertson indefinitely (though he may still appear in already recorded Duck Dynasty Season 5 episodes). “What’s clear is that such hateful anti-gay comments are unacceptable to fans, viewers, and networks alike,” said GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz. “By taking quick action and removing Robertson from future filming, A&E has sent a strong message that discrimination is neither a Christian nor an American value.” The slew of Twitter reactions made Phil Robertson a trending topic on Wednesday, as major uproar ensued following the release of his GQ interview: At the same time, the pro-Phil hashtag #IStandWithPhil gained popularity. Among other things, Robertson called homosexuality illogical and cited Bible scripture to compare homosexuality to bestiality, adultery and prostitution. “It seems like, to me, a vagina – as a man – would be more desirable than a man’s anus, that’s just me,” he said. “I’m just thinking: There’s more there!” “She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.” Phil Robertson Slams Gay People Robertson, asked what kinds of behavior he considers sinful, added: “Start with homosexual behavior and morph out from there … bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” Before the suspension, Phil issued a statement in which he said: “I myself am a product of the ’60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior.” “My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together.” “However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity.” “We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.” VOTE: Should Phil Robertson be suspended for his comments?   Yes, obviously. He was way over the line. Maybe. I can see why A&E decided to. No way. He’s just stating his opinions, people! View Poll »
