It’s no secret that with the election of Trump, white supremacy and racially-motivated hate crimes/actions are at an all-time high, which also now includes Halloween costumes. In the latest case of “our pain is their entertainment,” a group of white students decided to mock Freddie Gray’s death by wearing a ridiculously offensive Halloween costume. In Trump's America, it's not a surprise that there is an increase of hate-based Halloween costumes this year. https://t.co/vXrcGm1arw — theGrio.com (@theGrio) October 31, 2017 Every year at this time you can expect to see numerous people of other races deciding to dress up in varying forms of blackface for Halloween. However, this time a group of students thought that mocking the brutal death of Baltimore’s Freddie Gray by police would make an even better costume than all the racist ones in the past. In a report by The Grio , a group of students from a collection of schools dressed in orange jumpsuits with Freddie Gray’s name on the back of one and a photo caption that featured the N-word. Via The Grio: Several students have come under fire for racially insensitive Halloween costumes, including one portraying Freddie Gray. According to the Baltimore Sun, a graduate of the Boys’ Latin School of Maryland wore an orange jumpsuit with “Freddie Gray” on the back of it during a party off-campus at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. Another group of students, from Gilman School and Roland Park Country School, were pictured wearing orange jumpsuits, with a caption posted to social media reading, “N—-s broke out,” according to CBS. Another student, this one at St. Paul’s School, was pictured with a swastika and a racial slur painted on his bare back. Following the release of the photos St. Paul’s School stated that they do not tolerate any form of hate or discrimination. Officials from the other schools which the students attend have vowed to investigate the images. Meanwhile Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake responded on social media, writing, “Heartbroken. Disappointed. Frustrated.” The mayor also mentioned her daughter, who attends Roland Park, writing, “It will undoubtedly be a rough day for my daughter tomorrow. Praying I find the words to help her make sense of this nonsense.” Check out today’s Top Stories here: Steve Harvey’s Ratings Tank Following Public Trump Support Rep. T wo Black history monuments were recently stolen from a park in rural Arkansas just days after the first African-American mayor took office, Arkansas Matters reported. A wooden placard bearing Dr. Maya Angelou ‘s name and a bronze bust honoring three Black men who served in the state legislature after the Civil War were taken from the town of Stamps over the weekend. It was not immediately clear whether the theft at Maya Angelou Memorial Park was racially motivated, said Mayor Brenda Davis . The incidents came at a time when protesters have called for the removal of Confederate monuments in several states. The town expected to replace the monuments, the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette reported. Black History Monuments Stolen Days After Town Elects First Black Mayor https://t.co/nZ4D9J7ITy #ARNews @kark4news pic.twitter.com/pjyg759BPj — KARK 4 News (@KARK4News) October 24, 2017 Davis, who was elected last month to lead the small south Arkansas town that Angelou once called home, said news of the theft brought tears. “I don’t understand,” David explained. “I don’t know if it’s a message because I’m the first African-American woman as mayor. It makes you wonder, but I wouldn’t speculate.” The bust alone was worth roughly $2,500, according to Davis. Though Davis was unsure whether race placed a part in the theft, it looked as if it was racially motivated, said Lexi Fuller , a lifelong Stamps resident who lives across the street from the park from where the monuments were taken. “As soon as she got elected, it happened,” Fuller said. “It’s just not right at all.” Though the matter is quite serious, Davis, who is serving the unexpired term of Mayor David Ray Bright ending in December 2018, will not let it stop her from improving Stamps. “Replacing it, moving on,” Davis said. “Not letting this get the best of us.” The Arkansas Historic Commission has agreed to replace the stolen bust by January 2018. No word yet on plans to replace the Angelou placard.
