Meat without animals? Science says yes!

Winston Churchill once predicted that it would be possible to grow chicken breasts and wings more efficiently without having to keep an actual chicken. And in fact scientists have since figured out how to grow tiny nuggets of lab meat and say it will one day be possible to produce steaks in vats, sans any livestock. Pork chops or burgers cultivated in labs could eliminate contamination problems that regularly generate headlines these days, as well as address environmental concerns that come with industrial livestock farms.

Mars Needs Catholics

The Vatican has hosted a conference to study the possibility of alien life in the universe and its implication for the Catholic Church. The study was part of events marking the UN-designated International Year of Astronomy. The Rev Jose Gabriel Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory, said “the questions of life's origins and of whether life exists elsewhere in the universe are very suitable and deserve serious consideration”.

The new Michael Jackson album This It It , a 20-track, two-CD set accompanying the release of the movie of the same name, features one of his poems, “Planet Earth.” His poetry is a call to environmental awareness, according to James Bearden, the music supervisor of Jackson’s This Is It tour, who told MTV about the singer’s theme : “[Jackson] wanted the world to know this may be it when it came to seeing him tour, and if we don’t start paying attention to the world, it will be it for the Earth too.” He’s one of the biggest music stars ever, but can MJ hack it as a poet? Critical reaction to Jackson’s prose has been mixed, but generally positive.

I almost titled this shooting stars..but, that’s just wrong

The Earth will pass through the debris of Halley’s Comet tonight and tomorrow morning and there’s a good chance you can see a shitload of falling stars tonight, if you like that kind of thing. I do. Rural areas are supposed to have the best view and the show will start around 1 am.
