My Chemical Romance Team With Fans On ‘Sing It For Japan’

Band will release charity version of latest single and fan-fueled video, with all proceeds going to Red Cross efforts. By James Montgomery My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way Photo: Samir Hussein/ Getty Images My Chemical Romance have announced plans to release a charity version of their song “Sing,” with all proceeds going to the Red Cross’ disaster relief efforts in Japan. But they’re not doing it alone. Instead, they’re reaching out to members of their MCRmy to help the cause. The band is asking fans to submit videos, pictures, drawings and written messages to the people of Japan through social sites like Twitter — using the hashtag #SINGItForJapan — which they’ll then compile into a video to be paired with the song. “We’d like to send messages of hope to Japan from people all over the world. … Go wherever your creativity and heart takes you. It could be as simple as you holding up a sign with ‘#SINGItForJapan’ written on it, or anything else you can dream up,” guitarist Ray Toro wrote on the band’s official site. “From what we’ve seen on tour, we know you guys can dream bigger than we ever could. Don’t be afraid to get your families involved. If you are inspired to do something alone, that’s great too. But we encourage you to get a big group of people from your community together. We want Japan to know just how many people are behind them.” Toro added that the band got the idea after noticing that, in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunamis that ravaged Japan, fans were sending messages of support to the nation using the hashtag. “After the news of the earthquake and tsunami spread, I did what most people did. I stopped and stared at the TV. I sat at the computer, constantly refreshing CNN in hopes of some good news,” he wrote. “And I went to Twitter to see what people were saying. I noticed a hashtag, ‘SINGItForJapan,’ where you kids were writing messages of hope, saying prayers and sending your condolences and well wishes to survivors. It moved me in a profound way.” The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 30, at 8 p.m. ET. There’s no news on just when the band’s new version of “Sing” will be made available, but for more information — and to submit material for #SINGItForJapan — check out My Chemical Romance’s official site . Black Eyed Peas ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ Video To Aid Japan Disaster Relief

Video was shot in Japan one week before the earthquake and tsunami. By Jocelyn Vena The Black Eyed Peas Photo: Chris Gordon/WireImage It seems that all of Hollywood and the music community are banding together to help those affected by the tsunami and earthquake in Japan. Lady Gaga and Katy Perry are just two examples, with Gaga and her little monsters raising more than $250,000 for relief efforts, and fellow pop star Katy Perry donating funds from her tour merchandise. Now the Black Eyed Peas are getting in the game. They hope that their music video for their track “Just Can’t Get Enough” will raise awareness and funds for those who need help. The guerilla-style video was shot over three days in Japan one week before the country was hit by the natural disaster. “It was the easiest video I ever shot because it was us living our lives,” Fergie told ” Entertainment Tonight .” “I love that it’s showing a true perspective of how it can sometimes be lonely on the road away from our loved ones. It also demonstrates the love and connection we have with Japan. Our heart goes out to all of the Japanese people who have been affected by this natural disaster.” The video will reportedly display the message, “This video was filmed in Japan one week before the earthquake. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the people of Japan. We love you,” according to AceShowbiz.com . The clip closes with a call to arms and a request to donate to the Red Cross. “It was an amazing moment in time because Japan has always been my favorite place on the planet,” group member Taboo explained about the video, which will premiere Thursday. The band will also perform on “American Idol” that same day to premiere the track. “It was great to do our video there. God bless the Japanese. Our love goes out to them,” Taboo said. Radioactive cloud Form Japan

This DigitalGlobe handout image shows the earthquake and tsunami damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant located in the town of Okuma in the Futaba District of Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. California is closely watching the crisis at a Japanese nuclear plant, but officials downplayed the threat that a radioactive cloud blown across the Pacific could pose for the US West Coast. The possibility that a radioactive cloud from Japan will form and drift toward the Philippines is “very remote” as curr

WORSER: Japan Hit With 2nd Nuclear Explosion, 3rd Nuclear Meltdown And Threat Of Another Tsunami

Sadly, as we expected, things have gone from bad to worse for the people of Japan. An explosion rocked another nuclear plant in northeastern Japan earlier today, causing authorities to issue another evacuation warning. Soldiers and officials along a stretch of Japan’s northeastern coast warned residents that the area could be hit by another tsunami Monday and ordered them to higher ground. But the Meteorological Agency said there was no risk of another deadly wave. The warning came as an explosion rocked the nearby Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant. The blast was felt 30 miles away by Associated Press journalists in the coastal town of Soma, where residents fled the town for safety after being herded quickly through muddy, debris-strewn streets. TV footage showed a massive column of smoke belching from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant’s No. 3 unit, about 125 miles north of Tokyo. Japanese officials said they believe it was a hydrogen explosion similar to an earlier one at a different unit in the facility. The problems at the plant stem from failed cooling systems caused by damage from Friday’s earthquake and tsunami. More than 180,000 people have evacuated the area, and up to 160 may have been exposed to radiation. Before the power plant blast, sirens around Soma, which was battered by Friday’s tsunami, went off and public address systems ordered residents to safety. Farther south along the coast, helicopters flew over coastal communities warning residents to head to higher ground. In Sendai, the biggest city in the area, police announced warnings on a public address system. In Tokyo and elsewhere, authorities began rolling blackouts to conserve power as they tried desperately to stabilize the nuclear reactors at risk of meltdown in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami. The disasters sent Tokyo’s stock market plunging as it opened, raising fears of a steep economic toll on top of the already overwhelming human suffering. The planned blackouts of about three hours each in Tokyo and other cities are meant to help make up for the loss of power from key nuclear plants. Trade Minister Banri Kaieda said Sunday that the power utility expects a 25 percent shortfall. Some 1.9 million households were without electricity, but many people were without even more basic necessities. At least 1.4 million households had gone without water since the quake struck, and food aid was slow in reaching many areas. And the death toll keeps rising . And they’re expecting snow this week, which will make the situation even tougher for survivors and rescue workers… SMH.

Wayne admitted she was a nice addition, but he didn’t see her becoming as big of a star as she’s become. She, along with Drake, gave him the luxury of relaxing while he was behind bars, knowing his prot

Massive 8.9-Magnitude Quake Hits Japan 7th Largest In History

The epicenter was 373 kilometers (231 miles) away from the capital, Tokyo, the United States Geological Survey said. But residents there felt the tremors. The quake rattled buildings and toppled cars off bridges and into waters underneath. Waves of debris flowed like lava across farmland, pushing boats, houses and trailers toward highways. In Tokyo, crowds gathered in the streets and tried to reach relatives via cell phone. Scenes inside office buildings showed papers strewn all over the floor and people clinging onto seats and desks. Such a large earthquake at such a shallow depth creates a lot of energy, said Shenza Chen of the U.S. Geological Survey. It caused a power outage in about 4 million homes in Tokyo and surrounding areas. A tsunami in the Pacific was moving closer to other shorelines in other countries, said CNN meteorologist Ivan Cabrera. It triggered tsunami warnings for various countries, including Japan and Russia, the National Weather Service said. “Earthquakes of this size are known to generate tsunamis potentially dangerous to coasts outside the source region,” it said. “Based on all available data a tsunami may have been generated by this earthquake that could be destructive on coastal areas even far from the epicenter.” The quake was the latest in a series in the region this week. Early Thursday, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 struck off the coast of Honshu. A day earlier, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck off of Honshu, the country’s meteorological agency said. The largest recorded quake took place in Chile on May 22, 1960, with a magnitude of 9.5, the USGS said.
