The James Brown biopic has been in the works for some time now. Back in 2006, Spike Lee joined the Paramount project to direct and rewrite a script that had already been revised by Feeling Minnesota scribe Steve Baigelman and Jezz and John-Henry Butterworth ( Fair Game ). In the most exciting (and recent) development yet though, producers have begun meeting with actors about the lead part — including Eddie Murphy and one recording artist that will definitely surprise you.

Thursday night on The Office , Steve Carell’s Michael Scott proposed to his girlfriend Holly (Amy Ryan) and informed his co-workers that he is moving to Colorado. This makes us all sad — we love Michael Scott, and we love Steve Carell! And while Carell has what should be a long and illustrious movie career ahead of him, we’ve seen sure things go off the rails plenty of times before. As such, Movieline offers these instructive lessons from watching those small-screen stars who’ve gone big-screen before him.
In October 1991, Elizabeth Taylor married for the eighth time – to construction worker Larry Fortensky, 20 years her junior, whom she had met while in rehab. The opulent ceremony was held at Michael Jackson#39;s 2,700-acre Neverland Ranch. Jackson gave away the bride, who wore a pale yellow gown by Valentino. Fortensky#39;s best man was Liz#39;s hairdresser, Jose Eber. Among the 150 guests were Liza Minnelli, Eddie Murphy and former first lady Nancy Reagan. The marriage ended in 1996. Fortens
Liza Minnelli has released a statement on the passing of the divine Elizabeth Taylor, expressing her sorrow over losing a fellow diva and sharing her love for the woman she used to call friend. Liza wrote: “She was a true star, because she not only had beauty and notoriety; Elizabeth Taylor had talent. As a friend she was always, always there for me. I#39;ll miss her for the rest of my life, but I was so lucky to have known her.” Sad. So many people are going to miss her.
Woodie Awards host is surprised by positive response to his transition from comedy to rap. By Steven Roberts Donald Glover Photo: Gustavo Caballero/WireImage Woodie Awards host Donald Glover has been making a name for himself as an actor on NBC’s “Community,” as a member of the comedy group Derrick Comedy and as a writer on another NBC property, “30 Rock,” for quite some time. However, Glover has also been working on his rap skills, under the alias Childish Gambino. Tuesday morning (March 8), Glover released his latest Childish Gambino EP, which oddly enough he left untitled, via his blog . “I didn’t feel like it needed a name. I was trying not to give it a name, but a lot of people named it [anyway],” Glover said. “I just wanted it to be. But I like the fact that people are naming it.” Glover had been making a splash as of late thanks to his recent single and video for “Freaks and Geeks,” as well as his scene-stealing verse on Jamie XX’s remix of Adele’s phenomenal “Rolling in the Deep.” Each helped to build anticipation for the release of his EP, which he said people started calling “Be Alone,” “Freaks and Geeks” and then simply “EP.” Glover said he released his first project as a sophomore in college — the untitled EP is his seventh. He started making music for fun, but he wasn’t sure how people would receive Childish’s work at first. He thought he’d be dismissed as a rapper, but he has grown more confident as his skills have progressed. “I wouldn’t put out ‘Sick Boy’ now or ‘I Am Just a Rapper’ now. I would be like, ‘I can do much better than that.’ I guess I was just afraid for a long time because I didn’t want people to be like, ‘Oh, he’s a comedian, he can’t do that. He’s going to Eddie Murphy himself.’ But I was like, you know, I’m just having fun. If people want to just have fun with me, that’s fine. I’ve just been really amazed by the response.” A larger part of the response saw the New York leg of Glover’s I Am Donald Tour sell out in five hours and the D.C. leg sell out in three. He said he was thankful for the reaction, but he still found it very strange. “I’m very happy, and it’s very cool that people are willing to do that, because I know personally, it would be hard for me if Dane Cook just started playing the piccolo. That’s weird. I don’t know if I want to pay to see Dane Cook play the piccolo.”
Comedians (read Eddie Murphy) and that new thing called Hip-Hop dominated Black movies in the early 80s , but somehow, unlike today, there was nothing Minstrel show-ish about it. Take a look back at a time when African-American actors could lead a multi-cultural cast to one of the highest grossing movies of the decade… And when White directors could interpret Alice Walker without loosing one ounce of soul. And before you yell at us about what we forgot, remember this is just part 1. ( Click here to see our favorite movies of the 90s , in case you missed it.)
Charlie Sheen is just one star who appears to be part of a vast celebrity death conspiracy sweeping the Internet. Other victims of false death reports over the holidays include Owen Wilson, Aretha Franklin, Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler – who all turned out to be just fine, thanks. Charlie Sheen was as surprised as anyone to discover he#39;d been killed in a snowboarding accident this week. “When I heard on the news that I had died the other day, I quickly ran to my PC and checked the ratings
