Farmageddon, the movie: Protect your right to food sovereignty!

The choice of healthy food and to grow food as you see fit is a human right. Access to food is a human right. I am a firm believer in food sovereignty and the right to farm sustainably and am appalled to see how it is slipping away in America, a land that claims to be about freedom. FOOD RAIDS? When we have bankers and government agencies robbing us blind daily in collusion with companies like Monsanto that toxify this planet with disease and death going scott free? As you celebrate your Thanksgiving this year in whatever way you do, not only be thankful for your food, but aware that the freedom to grow, process, distribute, and eat what you want is being sacrificed to industrial agriculture and factory farms in collusion with food chains looking to make big money from eroding the very principles that made this country what it once was. Farmageddon is hopefully going to be released next year. It is a 90 minute documentary on the dwindling food sovereignty we see in America and the extreme measures being implemented to attack farmers who are growing healthy food. All I can say about this is: What the hell happened to our country? added by: JanforGore

A Troubling Situation in Houston – Transgender Woman Arrested for Using Women’s Restroom in Library

Troubling Situation in Houston By Kevin Nix November 23rd, 2010 at 6:24 pm A transgender woman, Tyjanae Moore, was arrested and throw into jail for using the women’s restroom at a Houston public library, according to a local TV station. “I felt so belittled going to a jail over something so simple and stupid,” Moore said. The Houston Area Pastor Council is claiming state law requires that Moore use the men’s restroom until she has final surgery. Until then, they say, she must use her birth gender restroom. But the city of Houston has a non-discrimination policy that transgender people can use the restroom of their choice, according to the executive order issued by Houston Mayor Annise Parker earlier this year. The Houston-based Transgender Foundation of America referenced the order in their statement yesterday: City of Houston Executive Order 1 – 8 and 1 – 20 ensures that all individuals regardless of race, gender identity, nationality or sexuality can have equal access to City restroom facilities. “The arrest should have never happened.” said Cristan Williams, Executive Director of the Transgender Foundation of America. “The City of Houston has given this victim explicit permission to use a restroom consistent with their gender. This means that the library patron was acting in a manner consistent with both state and local law. Since she broke no law, this is a case of unlawful arrest and imprisonment. The head of the Houston Area Pastor Council, David Welch, has a long Republican political pedigree, according to his bio. All 29 New Zealand Miners Have Been Confirmed Dead

29 trapped miners confirmed dead in New Zealand 29 miners confirmed dead after New Zealand mine explosion By the CNN Wire Staff November 23, 2010 11:26 p.m. EST . Flowers and a note lay at the foot of the Strongman Mine Memorial on Monday in Greymouth, New Zealand. STORY HIGHLIGHTS * NEW: The official tells families all 29 trapped miners are dead * The air in the mine is high in carbon monoxide and methane, low in oxygen * No one has heard from the miners since Friday's explosion (CNN) — All 29 miners trapped underground in a New Zealand mine are dead, the official in charge of a the rescue attempt said Wednesday. Gary Knowles, superintendent of Tasman Police Command, announced the deaths to the families. During the rescue attempt, air released from drilling into the mine contained high levels of carbon monoxide and methane but little oxygen, according to police officials. Authorities said the two camera-bearing military robots sent into the mine had found a worker's helmet with its light still on, but no sign of life. The helmet, police said, was dropped by one of the two miners who escaped the original explosion. Miners missing after explosion Map: New Zealand coal mine One of the robots had broken down earlier Tuesday but was back online, said Peter Whittall, CEO of Pike River Coal, which owns the mine. Whittall said a third robot was on its way to the site. One the units reached a “fresh air base” and found nobody there, he said. The 29 men, ages 17 to 62, had been missing since Friday, when an explosion ripped through the Greymouth mine. Most of the miners are from New Zealand, but the group also includes Scotlanders and South Africans. The missing men are believed to have been spread throughout the mine, with perhaps half trapped in one area. Whittall and Knowles reiterated that potentially explosive gases in the collapsed mine have rendered a rescue attempt unsafe so far. “It's just too dangerous. You can't put the lives of the guys going underground at risk,” Whittall said. Late Tuesday, officials showed family members and reporters a closed-circuit television video of the mine's entrance during Friday's blast. The minute-long video shows dust flying and a white screen flapping back and forth before it is blown out of the tunnel. The video “showed that the blast was quite large and went on for a long time,” Whittall said. He said that the “sobering” video showed a site at least 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles) away from the blast. Officials decided to play it for family members and reporters to illustrate “how dangerous it would be to re-enter the mine,” he said. added by: EthicalVegan
