The trailer opens with a gender-bending Alan Cumming meeting a guy at a cabaret, but the frivolity appears to end there. After the pair get together with his closeted lawyer partner, Cumming’s Rudy befriends a developmentally disabled adolescent who is being neglected by his mother. The story goes from there in what turns out to be a fight for civil rights and the welfare of a child. Director Travis Fine’s Any Day Now won Audience Awards at the Chicago, Provincetown, Tribeca and Woodstock film festivals in addition to other wins in Seattle and Outfest. Official Log-line: Inspired by a true story and touching on legal and social issues that are more relevant now than ever, Any Day Now tells a story of love, acceptance, and creating your own family. In the late 1970s, when Marco (Isaac Leyva), a teenager with down syndrome who’s been abandoned by his mother, is taken in by committed couple Rudy (Alan Cumming) and Paul (Garret Dillahunt), he finds in them the family he’s never had. However, when their unconventional living arrangement is discovered by the authorities, Rudy and Paul must fight a biased legal system to adopt the child they have come to love as their own. Music Box Films will release Any Day Now in theaters December 14th. Watch the video on YouTube
Screams of elation, excitement — and at one point pure, unadulterated horror — echoed down through the rafters at the Nokia Theater last night as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II premiered to crowd of well-heeled industry guests and legions of Twi-hards, all craning for a glimpse of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson , who were in attendance alongside dozens of their Twilight co-stars. Hollywood suits and fans alike seemed taken with the action-packed Twilight finale, which concludes the billion-dollar film franchise with a polished touch, new faces, a welcome dash of humor, and more than a few fan service moments dedicated to Bella and Edward’s bloodsucking marital bliss. And, proving that Twilight is a universal phenomenon, the premiere drew famous faces as varied as they come: Stevie Nicks , who compared Twilight to Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre on the red carpet; Terrell Owens, spotted taking pictures with a Breaking Dawn vampire at the after party; Jaleel White, the erstwhile Steve Urkel; and even Weird Al Yankovic. Weird Al! Who’d have guessed he was a Twilight fan? PHOTO GALLERY: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson & More Hit The ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2’ Premiere Breaking Dawn Part II picks up shortly after the gory events of Breaking Dawn Part I , in which franchise heroine Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), newly wed, gave birth to her half human, half vampire daughter Renesmee. Or, rather: When baby Renesmee clawed her way out of the womb leaving Bella dying, and fast. Enter vampirism: Painful, permanent, but too convenient to turn down in a pinch. The new film opens with Bella’s rebirth as she awakens to undead life with new strength and beauty, a thirst for blood, and a hyperactive sex drive for making eternal love with Edward (Robert Pattinson). And Bella’s not alone; along with her resurrection, the franchise comes alive with renewed energy and a much-needed sense of humor, not to mention – gasp! – changes from the book that lend Breaking Dawn a cinematic drama lacking in Meyer’s final novel. Director Bill Condon, who helmed Breaking Dawn Part I and shot the two final installments concurrently, delivers the ultimate Twilight farewell for fans of Stephenie Meyer’s books and the film adaptation they spawned. Together with series screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg and Meyer herself, a guiding presence on set and in the scripting process, Condon gives the Twilight faithful all the must-see moments they want — and a few they didn’t know they needed. PHOTO GALLERY: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson & More Hit The ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2’ Premiere Suffice to say, in the service of satisfying the fans Condon and Co. have included plenty of canoodling opportunities for Bella and Edward, who are finally sexual equals now that vampire life has balanced out their 100-year age difference. If you thought Breaking Dawn Part I ‘s PG butter-colored honeymoon sex was thrilling, just wait until Bella, powered by a diet of mountain lion blood, shoves Edward onto their bridal bed and becomes entangled in a blur of abstractly unidentifiable arms and thighs and sighs until her brain explodes in orgasmic, butter-colored bliss. Scream level: 8, on a scale of 1 to 10 . And despite being saddled with the trickiest plot development of the film, maybe even the series ( Imprinting: Totally not weird, right? ), Taylor Lautner shows off his comic timing, and his six-pack, both of which he’s clearly been working on these past few films. I dare say Condon pushes the envelope a bit where Lautner is concerned; in one scene the camera leers just so at Lautner’s crotch that the entire audience gets to second base with him just by looking. Scream level: 9 . But where Rosenberg, Meyer, and Condon show they really know their fan base is in the film’s biggest departure from the book. Without spoiling it, I’ll just describe what it sounded like in the theater: Gasps and screams escaped from the fan contingent, crescendoed, and sustained for a good ten minute span. The feeling was contagious, creating a wave of invisible, palpable energy cascading from the balcony to the screen. Scream level: 11 . PHOTO GALLERY: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson & More Hit The ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2’ Premiere At the after party guests danced under the Forks High prom lights, sat in Bella’s red truck, and posed for photos in Bella and Edward’s meadow. Locations from the entire series were replicated in every corner, from the Volturi chambers to the Quileute forests to the flower-lined awning under which Bella and Edward were wed. Bella’s wedding dress stood underneath a giant hanging moon while servers dressed as Volturi brought around canapes; outside, live wolves roamed a cage on display. It was a Twilight fan’s dream, so thoroughly detailed that you wonder how long it’ll take Summit to figure out how to create a Harry Potter -styled Twilight attraction where fans can wander scenes from the films and imagine themselves in Forks, Washington, and keep the screams — and cash — rolling in for years to come. ‘Dark Shadows’ star tells Robert Pattinson that ‘there’s room for two vampires on this block.’ By Jocelyn Vena Johnny Depp and Robert Pattinson Photo: Warner Bros./ Summit In a recent interview with this big screen vampire, Johnny Depp opened up about any potential vampy face-offs with fellow heartthrob and big-screen bloodsucker Robert Pattinson. When asked if there’s any sort of blood feud with the “Twilight” star, Depp noted that it’s all cool between the two actors. “There’s room for two vampires on this block — as long as he remembers I am the Alpha Vampire,” he told UsMagazine.com at the London premiere of his campy vampire flick, “Dark Shadows,” which opens this weekend. Of course Edward Cullen and Barnabas Collins aren’t really cut from the same vampire DNA. Where Edward is brooding and sullen, Barnabas is on the other end of the spectrum, with his oddball charm and old-world demeanor. And their transitions to the modern world are quite different. While Edward had been living in the world over the course of his vampire life, Barnabas had been in a coffin for 200 years before emerging in the 1970s. When MTV News spoke to Depp about the film , he noted that exploring Barnabas’ evolution in the contemporary world was what drew him to the story. “Playing a kind of reluctant vampire, in a sense, the reluctant vampire who has been locked in a box for 200 years and his misfortune to be let out in an age when things are probably at their most surreal in terms of 1972,” Depp said. “It’s a very odd period. Things are changing radically; the sort of peace and love thing was over with, and we were rapidly approaching disco, so musically and aesthetically, that was the fun of it, to place this hyper-elegant figure from the late 18th century into one of the weirdest times of all time.” The film is the latest collaboration between Deep and director Tim Burton. It’s the big-screen adaptation of the 1960s soap opera of the same name. Who do you think is the Alpha Vampire: Edward Cullen or Barnabas Collins? Leave your pick below! Harry, Ron and Hermione make ‘Twilight’ debut in the off-Broadway parody. By Amy Wilkinson The cast of “Twilight: The Musical” Photo: Dreamcatcher Entertainment NEW YORK — When “Dreamgirls” helmer Bill Condon took over direction of “The Twilight Saga,” more than a few cheeky journalists wondered if he’d treat fans to a bloodsucking song-and-dance extravaganza. Alas, vogueing Volturi weren’t meant to be — at least on the big screen. They have, however, found a temporary home on the New York City stage in the form of ” Twilight: The Musical .” The off-Broadway parody production premiered Monday night at the New World Stages, raising money for the charity Blessings in a Backpack. Written by Ashley Griffin and directed by Gabriel Barre, “Twilight: The Musical” is, for now, staged as a concert reading, meaning that the actors hold scripts throughout the show. But the cheat sheets did little to diminish the enthusiasm of the oft-hilarious production. A group of eight actors play more than 30 roles, with some pulling quadruple and even quintuple duty (such as standouts Lauren Lopez and Jenna Leigh Green). With her bobbing ponytail, zip-up hoodie, skinny jeans and sullen expression, Meghann Fahy (“Next to Normal”) is a dead ringer for Bella Swan (or, at the very least, Kristen Stewart’s portrayal of Bella Swan), while “Wicked” actor Colin Hanlon looks perfectly pained as Edward Cullen. Jared Zirilli (“Wicked”) spends the entire second act shirtless, portraying Jacob with the kind of earnestness that’s made Taylor Lautner the object of many a teen’s fever dreams. The show opens much as the “Twilight” movie does, with Bella’s monologue about her impending death followed by the cafeteria scene and the upbeat track “Looking for Something.” (Sample lyrics: “I think I see a Fork stuck in my road,” “We’re standing on the twilight of something good.”) The first act hems closely with its source material, including all the requisite scenes: Edward’s biology class freak-out, Bella’s car accident and the bookstore gang-up. Much of the dialogue comes straight from screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg’s script, too, albeit with much-welcomed embellishments. (Charlie to Bella: “I know it’s awkward starting in the middle of a semester, so I got you a truck!”) But things take a canon-twisting turn about two-thirds of the way through the first act when Hermione, Ron and Harry show up. Yes, someone got “Harry Potter” in our “Twilight.” Instead of Victoria, James and Laurent, Hogwarts’ finest play the villains here. The meta levels reach 11 when the wizards mistakes Edward for Cedric Diggory. And so it is that Ron tracks Bella down in her old ballet studio and is done in by the Cullen coven, leaving Hermione to avenge the death of her beloved. The first act closes on Bella’s birthday — the surprisingly bloody scene from “New Moon.” The second act opens with a freshly shorn Jacob (his wig somehow even mangier than Lautner’s) singing with his pack. From there, the production speeds through the last three books of Meyer’s series, compressing much of the story in favor of cramming it all in. Despite the odd pacing, the production sang thanks to details only a true fanatic could relish. Edward’s sparkling-in-the-sun effect is achieved with a glittery bodysuit hidden underneath the actor’s button-down like Superman’s spandex. The iconic apple from the book’s cover hangs limply (and obviously) from a springing wire gizmo as Edward tries to suavely hand it to Bella. Not to mention the actors muster plenty of fourth-wall-breaking furtive glances, letting the audience know they are in on the joke. But the tongue-in-cheek vibe is abandoned late in the second act for a sobering bit of moralizing from Harry, who comes to Bella in a dream sequence asking if it was all worth it. “You were willing to sacrifice everything to get a boyfriend,” he says. “In the end, you destroyed yourself.” Point taken, Harry Potter. But what a buzzkill. If you weren’t able to make the one-night-only charity benefit, don’t fret: Work is being done to bring the production to the New York stage for good.
We look back at videos that got the ‘Twilight’ treatment in this week’s ‘Twilight’ Tuesday. By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part I” Photo: Summit Entertainment In the spirit of the season of giving and spreading holiday cheer, this week’s “Twilight” Tuesday is all about the gifts we’ve received via several higher-profile “Twilight” parodies that were prevalent in pop culture this year. With four films having been unleashed upon the masses to date, there is more than enough material to work with, and you know what they say about imitation: It’s the highest form of flattery. Without further ado, here are the best videos that got the “Twilight” treatment in 2011, plus a couple old-school standouts that are always worth revisiting. Auto-Tuned at the Oscars The Academy wasn’t subtle about trying to lure younger viewers for the 83rd annual Oscars telecast when they signed on co-hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway, and that was even more apparent when a musical mash-up was introduced that featured short Auto-Tuned videos from the year’s most popular films. The “Twilight” moment arrived toward the end of the video in a little ditty titled “He Doesn’t Own a Shirt,” which featured that infamous scene in “Eclipse” wherein Edward scoffs at Jacob’s impossibly toned abs and asks Bella why the werewolf never wears shirts. Nickelodeon’s Fred Figglehorn Does “Twilight” Speaking of shirtlessness, in Nickelodeon’s “Fred 2: Night of the Living Fred,” Internet celeb Fred Figglehorn showed off his own set of impressive abs in a kooky Jacob vs. Volturi-type scene . In this setup, Fred/Jacob has a squeaky high-pitched voice and instead of turning into a wolf, he morphs into a Pomeranian. “Breaking Prawn” With the Muppets We can all agree that the marketing campaign for “The Muppets” was brilliant. After taking on the likes of “Green Lantern” and “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” via parody trailers, our favorite fuzzy friends spoofed “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” with their “Breaking Prawn” clip and three equally clever posters advertising “The Muppet Saga” that featured Kermit as “Vamphibian,” Miss Piggy as “Bella Swine” and Rowlf as “WereRowlf.” Bonus #1: Jimmy Kimmel’s “Friggin’ Twilight” Yes, this video arrived in 2010, but because it stars our very own colorful characters from “Jersey Shore,” it’s too good not to mention here. This little gem first aired during Kimmel’s talk show and featured Snooki as Bella, The Situation as Edward, JWoww as Alice, Vinnie as Tyler Crowley, Pauly D as Jacob, Ronnie and Sammy as Cullens/Volturi, and a cameo by “Shore” cast-off Angelina as evil Victoria. Most ridiculous moments involve The Sitch’s sparkling abs and Pauly D’s stringy werewolf facial hair. Bonus #2: “SNL” Digital Short “Firelight” Leave it to the kings of pop culture mockery at “Saturday Night Live” and pop star princess Taylor Swift to create a killer “Twilight” parody. In the 2009 Digital Short “Firelight,” guest host Swift did a spot-on Kristen Stewart impression, complete with repeated lip biting and multiple hair-behind-the-ear moves, all while quoting actual lines from “Twilight.” However, in this case the Edward character is not a vampire, he’s the big, green, clumsy, strangle-happy monster Frankenstein. It’s the beginning of the night that will change everything for Edward Cullen and Bella Swan Cullen – and now it’s in high definition! In late July, anxious to give Twihards their first look at post-wedding bliss for this beloved couple, we posted a grainy video of them standing in front of their honeymoon suite bed, Edward referring to his bride by her new last name, Bella blushing and asking for a moment to do “human things.” Now, we have an extended look at that same scene – which begins with Edward carrying out a long-standing tradition – and you can ogle every inch of Robert Pattinson’s face in full-on HD. This Twilight Saga edition, of course, comes out on November 18. Visit our Breaking Dawn video section for a look at various clips and trailers for it, and then press play below. Try not to scream too loudly… Breaking Dawn Honeymoon Action
We break down the key scenes in the latest ‘Twilight Saga’ sneak peek. By Jocelyn Vena and Josh Wigler Robert Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” trailer Photo: Summit Entertainment Lots of romance, a touch of action and even a vampire/human birthing scene are all included in the latest “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” trailer . After dropping a trailer during June’s MTV Movie Awards, the newest teaser fleshes out the moments that fans will salivate over most when the Bill Condon-directed film opens in November. Check out our five favorite moments in the new “Breaking Dawn” trailer. Hit play on the embedded video as we walk through some of the key moments in the trailer, then read on for a deeper exploration of what’s going on in the “Breaking Dawn” footage. The Wedding The trailer opens with the ethereal wedding, as Bella and her father come to terms with her decision to marry her vampire lover, Edward. Dad is reserved but offers his assurance that he’ll never let Bella fall, serving as a sort of theme for the trailer: Everyone seems to be resigned to the Edward/Bella marriage. Jacob’s Goodbye “You think I’d be used to telling you goodbye by now,” Jacob says as he embraces his unrequited love. It seems, much like Bella’s father, that while Jacob may not be completely onboard, all he wants is for Bella to be happy. The Honeymoon Sweeping and romantic, the honeymoon has everything Twilighters have been waiting for, including boat rides, skinny dipping and that already teased bed-breaking love scene. “Last night was the best night of my existence,” Edward says — and fans will no doubt agree with that sentiment. Labor Pains As shocked as Bella is by her pregnancy, everyone’s reactions are just as dramatic. With one warning from her new father-in-law, Carlisle Cullen — “Your heart will give out before you can deliver” — a chain of events is set into motion. Edward worries his bride won’t survive, and the wolves warn, “We don’t know what they bred. We have to protect the tribe before it’s too late.” Special Delivery With fans clamoring over any footage of the much-discussed labor scene, now they finally get a taste of the pain and turmoil Bella will face as she tries to bring her baby into the world. While it answers that question, it raised another: Just how will “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” end and where will “Part 2” pick up? What’s your favorite part of the trailer? Tell us in the comments! MTV News breaks down the latest ‘Twilight’ trailer. By Kara Warner Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner in “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Summit Entertainment Be still, our “Twilight”-obsessed hearts. Finally, a new trailer arrived online Tuesday (September 13), and it is a doozy. Picking up where the first one (which debuted during the MTV Movie Awards in June) left off, the sparkling, action-packed, two-minute-and-30-second teaser offers fresh glimpses of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” The fact that we enjoyed every second of this new trailer is a given, therefore we are breaking out our top five favorite moments: Charlie Walks Bella Down the Aisle Bella’s dad has never seemed totally onboard with his daughter dating Edward Cullen, let alone marrying him. However, in this sweet moment that opens the trailer, we see a wonderful bond between Bella and Charlie, as well as the natural chemistry between actors Kristen Stewart and Billy Burke, as they prepare to walk down the aisle together. “Don’t let me fall, Dad” Bella says. “Never,” he answers. Jacob and Bella’s Dance After three books and four films of fighting for her heart, Jacob Black has to succumb to serious heartbreak and officially say goodbye to Bella. This sweet and heartfelt moment is captured beautifully during a slow dance at Bella’s wedding reception. “This is how I’ll remember you,” Jacob says to Bella, hinting at the fact that she’s set her heart on becoming a vampire. “Pink cheeks, heartbeat — you think I’d be used to telling you goodbye by now.” The Honeymoon Aftermath It’s safe to say that fans have been more excited about seeing the honeymoon scene than any other — save for a glimpse at Bella’s wedding dress, perhaps. In the new trailer, we revisit Edward’s hands crushing the headboard, followed by a very pleased and peaceful Bella lying in bed, surrounded by feathers from torn pillows and possibly pieces of the headboard. Intense, heated and squeal-worthy, for sure. Wolves vs. Vamps It wouldn’t be a “Twilight” movie without some sort of epic battle involved, and in “Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” there is a grand showdown between wolves and vampires. The wolf pack, which Jacob has deserted, wants to prevent Bella’s unborn half-human, half-vampire from being born. “Get ready, they’re coming for Bella,” Jacob says, anxiously. “They’re not going to touch her,” answers Edward. We then see a shot of a standoff, wolves surrounding the vampires, at which point Jacob addresses them, “If you kill her, you kill me,” followed by quick cuts of Alice and Jasper Cullen fighting the wolves. Edward Reacts to Bella In Labor Throughout the final minute of the trailer, most of the emphasis is put on the tension surrounding Bella’s pregnancy. Carlyle warns Bella: “The fetus isn’t compatible with your body. It’s too strong and fast growing. Your heart will give out before you can do anything” — which Bella doesn’t want to hear, much like Edward’s emotional outbursts that she has decided to give up her life for her unborn child, without considering his feelings. The last shot of the trailer is Edward’s face, full of anguish and anxiety, with Bella screaming in pain in the background. What was your favorite scene in the trailer? Let us know in the comments! One viewer even pretends to faint at the sight of shirtless Taylor Lautner. By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Breaking Dawn” Photo: Summit Entertainment Christmas came early for the “Twilight” fans of the world, in the form of the trailer for “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” during Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards . Two days later, and the most die-hard fans still can’t get enough of watching and re-watching the nearly two-minute extravaganza. Because we anticipated a few over-the-top enthusiastic responses, MTV News asked fans to upload their “Breaking Dawn” trailer reactions to Your.MTV.com , the top three aired on MTV’s “The Seven,” on Monday. But since we received so many wonderful reaction videos, we felt that we needed to highlight a few more. This latest group features similar themes of breathlessness, wide-eyed enthusiasm and, of course, squeals of delight. One video features five young girls perched on a couch in a room surrounded by “Team Edward” paraphernalia, all of them remaining mostly composed, until one little lady pretends to faint after seeing shirtless Taylor Lautner. The reactions from Emily and Lizzy in Haysville, Kansas, go from smiley to stunned to squealy. Also notable is the fact that a young guy is hanging out in the background, probably a brother or friend, who tries to sit through the ladies’ screams but bails halfway through. Finally, uploader ayLa94kLd submitted footage of herself and her sister’s reactions. The lively duo were the first reactors we’ve seen to offer a bit of running commentary throughout. At one point, the older sis playfully smacks her younger sister to keep her from fully freaking out. In addition to those video reactions, we have a few more thoughts, written by our readers in the comments section under the first trailer-reaction story we posted. “THAT TRAILER WAS AWESOME!!!” exclaimed Tucheer83. “I loved their reactions. Mine was worse. I was literally running around the house. I couldn’t believe [director Bill] Condon actually gave us the headboard breaking. I so love that man. No wonder Jennifer Hudson got an Oscar [for Condon’s ‘Dreamgirls’]. This guy is good!!! ‘New Moon’ used to be my favorite trailer, but Condon beat it hands down — but not by much.” “I loved the trailer,” Shari44 wrote. “My biggest squeals came when I got a glimpse of Bella looking into Edward’s eyes in her wedding veil. Just beautiful. Second squeal and a little giggle was when he was gripping the headboard during a passionate moment,” she added. “When Edward and Bella were snuggling together, then when we could see her belly with the first signs of pregnancy. Awesome trailer. Loved it all. Any Edward moment makes me sigh at the very least.” MTV News has all of the highlights from the 2011 MTV Movie Awards .
