What To Do When A Friend Pulls Away

Read the rest here:

When you notice that a friend suddenly won’t answer your text messages, tweets, texts or emails, this can be an unnerving and disturbing situation. According to About.com , the first sign that something could be ‘wrong’ with a friendship is often when you just don’t hear from your friend. Some people are not good at initiating conversation when something is wrong, so watch for these subtle signs that your friendship may be in trouble. 8 Signals That Tells You Your Relationship Is Over Emails and Phone Messages Go Unanswered When your friend just doesn’t return your messages, it’s a sign that something could be wrong. But, then again, your friend could just be busy. Or, it could mean that something is wrong. If your casual (“Hey, how’s it going?”) emails aren’t getting a response, try sending a more direct note indicating that you are worried about your friend. Don’t send a message that is angry or assuming, however. Avoid saying: “Why haven’t you emailed me? How come I always have to email you a couple times to get a response?” “What’s going on with you? I haven’t heard from you in ages?” “Aren’t you getting my messages? Why are you ignoring me?” These types of responses are worded to start an email fight rather than show concern about your friendship. Instead, say: “I haven’t heard back from you in a while and I’m concerned about you. Is everything okay?” Your Friend Is Going Through a Rough Time If your friend doesn’t get back to you, it can be very easy to assume that they are upset with you, but in fact, it may have nothing to do with you at all. Perhaps your friend is going through a rough time and for whatever reason (embarrassment, shame, shyness) they do not want to share with you. As a friend, you naturally want to help, but if your pal doesn’t want assistance, there is not much you can do besides let them know you are there for them. When Your Friend Is Angry With You It’d be great if all our friends could calmly tell us when we have done something to upset them. In reality, everyone is different, and they process anger and hurt in unique ways. Some people can recognize and address a situation right away. With these people, it is easy to work through a falling out. Other friends, however, will pull away in reaction to something we did. In these cases, when you send an “Is everything okay?” type of email, you’ll probably be met with anger. You might be confused since the last time you saw this person everything seemed fine. Before you get angry in return, try and calmly listen to what is being said. Perhaps your friend’s resentment has been building for a while and they just never expressed it before. Some people say nothing the first few times they feel slighted, only to “erupt” later on. In these cases, their habit may be to pull away and then become angry when you don’t automatically know what happened. When you and your friend have identified the problem, you can work through it. Then, make sure that you come up with a different way to communicate from that point forward, so that your friend will feel comfortable talking to you right away when there is an issue, rather than pulling away. Which comes first, fasting or feasting? The disciples of John the Baptist were upset with Jesus’ disciples because they did not fast. Fasting was one of the three most important religious duties, along with prayer and almsgiving. Jesus gave a simple explanation. There’s a time for fasting and a time for feasting (or celebrating). (Matthew 21:21-33) Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people: “Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey. When vintage time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce. But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat, another they killed, and a third they stoned. Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way. Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, ‘They will respect my son.’ But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.’ They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?” They answered him, “He will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times.” Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes? Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you There also comes a time when the Lord’s disciples must bear the cross of affliction and purification. For the disciple there is both a time for rejoicing in the Lord’s presence and celebrating his goodness and a time for seeking the Lord with humility and fasting and for mourning over sin. Do you take joy in the Lord’s presence with you and do you express sorrow and contrition for your sins? Jesus goes on to warn his disciples about the problem of the “closed mind” that refuses to learn new things. Jesus used an image familiar to his audience – new and old wineskins. In Jesus’ times, wine was stored in wineskins, not bottles. New wine poured into skins was still fermenting. The gases exerted gave pressure. New wine skins were elastic enough to take the pressure, but old wine skins easily burst because they were hard. What did Jesus mean by this comparison? Affirmation Of The Day:Live In The Present Moment. Are we to reject the old in place of the new? Just as there is a right place and a right time for fasting and for feasting, so there is a right place for the old as well as the new.  Jesus says the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old (Matthew 13:52). How impoverished we would be if we only had the Old Testament or the New Testament, rather than both. The Lord gives us wisdom so we can make the best use of both the old and the new. He doesn’t want us to hold rigidly to the past and to be resistant to the new work of his Holy Spirit in our lives. He wants our minds and hearts to be like the new wine skins – open and ready to receive the new wine of the Holy Spirit . How Do You Gather Inspiration From Everyday Life?

Read more:

It can be hard sometimes to find inspiration around you, especially when you’re just stuck in your old routines and need a change. There are many definitions of inspiration – that could include writing, general beauty, or just a change in your surroundings that makes you stop and think. For example, sometimes sitting in a public space helps you run into interesting people that make you think about your life differently. I know I was on the train this morning and saw a man and his son dressed nearly the same way, down to the small hoop earring in their right ear. I was fascinated because the son was only around 9 years old and he was definitely growing up to become like his dad, even down to his band t-shirt and holding his iPod like a video game controller. Seeing people and taking in what you see can sometimes trigger some intrigue in you. How do you gain inspiration in everyday life? 1. People-watch while out in public . As I said above, sometimes observing people can help you think introspectively about life and give you original ideas on how to change up your own life. I love seeing what books people are reading on the train, since it inspires me to become more of a literature buff. As well, I find it interesting to see what people are reading since people’s book choices can tell a lot about a person. Hearing music blasting through people’s headphones is also intriguing, as if you can sort of hear it, you’re getting a “glimpse” into their musical “life.” Any type of media outlet is interesting to observe these days – people try to block out others with these devices, yet they’re still inviting you in with their loud music or book cover. 2. Listen to music and just think. Sometimes music has a way of getting to your deepest emotions and makes opening up to new experiences easier. Perhaps a lyric strikes a chord with you or a certain beat gives you confidence. Music works in mysterious ways, so listen to whatever makes you escape, helps you get to the heart of a matter, or basically just relaxes you. Inspiration may be just around the corner from that melody. 3. Do yoga or anything that gives you time to unwind. Sometimes simply jogging around the block or doing yoga in the park with your friends can be just the inspiration you need to unwind, not think about anything, and gather yourself in a way nothing else can do for you. Exercise is a powerful way to just bring you into the moment and clear your head, therefore, it’s the perfect place to gather inspiration and insights. 4. Enjoy nature. Go outside and take a walk. Maybe if you take your dog out or just enjoy the scenery around you by yourself, you’ll find some time to think about life. It’s easier to appreciate life when you’re surrounded by it and breathing in the air around you. Not being inside can sometimes be beneficial to the psyche and give you a sanity you might not otherwise gain. 5. Think about other parts of the world and the different ways of life. What if you lived in England, Cambodia, or Australia, for example. What would your life be like? If you try to put yourself in other people’s shoes or try to abstractly think about the world in terms of various cultures, it can be eye-opening. However, you’re always thinking from a biased perspective of your own life, therefore it’s safe to say that your view of the world is different than the person sitting next to you. It’s a complicated inspiration, but it makes life more interesting to think in terms of others. Inspiration comes in different forms and it’s important to remember that depending on what you like to do to unwind and think, there could be many other activities to stimulate your thought process. However, relaxing and putting aside any worries is a good start and helps to create introspection that might not otherwise be there. Putting yourself and your thoughts out there is a good way to make life more interesting . So, get out there and change up your routine for the better – get inspired! The Spirit Of September 11, 2001 Lives On In Love & Service

Read the original here:

The true spirit that lives on from September 11, 2001 is love. I was at work the day the buildings fell victim to hatred. I walked home with people covered in dust and dirt. I helped a man shake the debris from his clothes. I lost friends in those sterling silver  towers of light. There are many who feel that it is an unfortunate event that should be forgotten. My beautiful city was rendered smokey, muddy and sad. The emotional toll of watching doctors, nurses, and common every day citizen rush to help. . I walked home  more than 5 miles to turn back around and go see what I could do. I sat on a floor waiting to donate blood for hours. There were many African Americans  who reacted like  me. It didn’t matter what color, religion, sexual orientation, or creed you were. We were all one. We were bound by the love of humanity to help. September 11, 2001  is filled with people who dropped everything they were doing to help. These are the amazing true stories of the construction workers who left their work sites and marched down to ground zero, unbidden and en masse, to join the search and rescue effort; of the restaurateurs who emptied their refrigerators, brought tons of food down to the site and fed everyone working there; of the sanitation workers, teachers, phone technicians and thousands of others who stepped forward to help the city revive itself; and of Americans from across the country who joined them. There was the guy in a wheelchair who rolled himself miles from his home in Harlem to bring down a bag of sandwiches. There was the urban search and rescue team that came up from San Juan, Puerto Rico, with their dogs to spend hour upon hour hunting through the piles of debris. And there were those who had lost loved ones in earlier disasters coming to help the bereaved of 9/11 cope with tragedy. So many thousands showed up from everywhere to help that the authorities had to turn the city’s main convention venue, the Javits Center, into a special site dedicated to organizing the volunteers according to skills and capabilities. Recalling that enormous outpouring of support from “people of all persuasions, backgrounds and beliefs,” former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani says, “I saw it, I lived it, and am humbled by the heartwarming, remarkable response that demonstrated the resilience of America.” Now we honor the dead, recall the pain and hope for the future. We can continue their legacy by serving. I challenge you to serve on this day. The true spirit of September 11, 2001 is love.  God Bless America and may the lost souls rest in peace. First Lady Michelle Obama graces the cover of Essence magazine October issue with a revealing interview that highlights the First Lady’s commitment to women and girls around the world. For the annual October ‘Power Issue,’ First Lady Michelle Obama is also feted as one of the world’s most influential Black women on the magazine’s ’2011 Power List.’ Check out some excerpts from the article below: On needing her girlfriends : “Women energize me. My husband is terrific. He is my true partner. Spending time with him is key…. But it’s also important for us as women to find each other. And there’s that natural reenergizing that happens when women get together. We kind of hold each other up.” On finding balance and teaching it to her daughters: “If we don’t have the energy, we can’t pass it on. I learned it from watching my own mother (Marian Robinson) not invest in herself, for example. She’s starting to do that. But she came from the tradition of family first. She wouldn’t even go to the hairdresser on a regular basis. I want to show my girls that it is perfectly fine to invest in yourself and to start to do it early, embrace it and not feel guilty about the time we put into ourselves.” The October issue is available on newsstands as of September 12, 2011. Bedtime Rituals That Build Memories

Go here to read the rest:

Putting children down for bed allows you to build bedtime rituals that will last a lifetime. Last year I was blessed enough to roll out a ritual that allowed my god-daughter to settle down into bed pleasantly. Of course there, is a school of though that says that when the child is tired he or she will go to bed. That is far from the truth. You can’t depend on kids, then, to let you know when they’re tired. Instead, it’s up to parents to know how much sleep their kids need. 3 Stress-Less Tips For Working Moms Here are some averages, which include daytime and nighttime sleep: 0-1 year: 13-16 hours 2-4 years: 11-13.5 hours 5-9 years: 10-11 hours 10-14 years: 9-10 hours 15-18 years: 8-9 hours Studies have shown that with consistent sleep and wake times, the body will eventually start to feel sleepy at the same time every night. This is good news for parents. Build a consistent bedtime into your schedule, and ease kids into it with a regular routine that might include some or all of the following: Lowering the lights and turning off all electronics 30-60 minutes before bed. A light snack that includes both protein and carbs. A warm bath, if it’s required. Potty, jammies, and teeth brushing. Cuddle time, especially with your favorite books. Soft music. Of course, older kids and teens are going to be far more independent, but most sleep experts recommend that you stick to the no electronics rule at bedtime. Besides, evening is a great time of day to hang out as a family. 7 Tips To Get Along With Your Mother-In-Law
