‘Gnomeo And Juliet’ Stars Talk ‘Overacting’ For Animated Flick

‘You have to emanate every kind of sound you can ever muster up,’ Emily Blunt tells MTV News. By Kara Warner James McAvoy and Emily Blunt Photo: MTV News From the outside looking in, the world of voice acting holds an allure that seems glamorous in a different way than traditional acting. There’s no wardrobe to fit, no hair and makeup to arrange, no far-off location to travel to, and so forth. All an actor has to do is show up and speak into a microphone. According to the lead voices behind “Gnomeo and Juliet” (an animated take on Shakespeare’s classic), James McAvoy and Emily Blunt, there are indeed a few benefits. But it’s definitely not as basic as some might think. MTV News recently spoke to Blunt and McAvoy, who told us effective voice work requires a few tricks. “I feel like you have to overact the entire time because you don’t realize how flat your voice sounds when it’s faceless and expressionless,” Blunt said. “So you actually have to over-enunciate and really leap around to add some kind of liveliness to the way you speak,” she explained. “It was interesting. We were told often to smile while we were talking because it actually lightens your voice up. It was interesting.” McAvoy added that you can actually hear the smile in the voice. “It was quite interesting. Even when the character is not supposed to be smiling, they’d like to hear the smile,” he said. Blunt also revealed that a few of her scenes were a bit embarrassing because she had to run in place in order to act out certain action sequences. “They need reactions from you falling on something or swinging or grabbing a hold of something,” she explained. “So that’s when you have to emanate every kind of sound you can ever muster up. It’s very strange.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Gnomeo and Juliet.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

REVIEW: Gulliver’s Travels Is Silly, Sweet and Not Too Oversized

Lilliputian light and unconcerned about it, Gulliver’s Travels clears enough antic elbow room for its liberal adaptation of Jonathan Swift’s classic novel to do its thing without too much offense and then pretty much disappears. Directed by Rob Letterman ( Shark Tale and Monsters vs. Aliens ), the film turns Swift’s hero into the male comedic mainstay of the day — a schlubby, pop culture-obsessed man-child with no prospects and tics and references where a personality should be. Which is to say: Jack Black. The joke is obvious, and Black has used his maniacal, delusional grin to make it for years: I think I’m way bigger than I am. And yet Gulliver’s journey yields a little more than the basic, bland yuk of a mail-room jockey who can barely look his comely co-worker (Amanda Peet) in the eye becoming a terrifying and potent giant in cargo shorts and Chucks.

‘Gulliver’s Travels’ Cast Responds: Would You Rather Be Taller Or Shorter?

Jack Black, Jason Segel and Emily Blunt star in film, coming Saturday. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jack Black in “Gulliver’s Travels” Photo: 20th Century Fox In discussing the important subject matter involved in “Gulliver’s Travels” — the film (coming to theaters Saturday) based on the classic Jonathan Swift tale, and starring Jack Black, Jason Segel and Emily Blunt — MTV News thought it prudent to ask the cast members a hard-hitting, yet totally appropriate question: Would you rather be 2 feet taller or 2 feet shorter? Black, who plays the titular curious explorer (in this case, a curious travel writer), had to think long and hard about it. “Wait a minute, 7′ 7″ or 3′ 7″? That’s an amazing question,” he replied. “Hmm … I’m going to go short. I’m going to go 3′ 7″,” he decided. “Because some of the greats are shorties. There are some great tall-y tall-ies, but I think the life expectancy is longer for the shorties,” Black philosophized. “I think those super tall-ies are breakable.” Blunt decided to take a different track. “Two feet taller, not 2 feet shorter,” she responded. “I wouldn’t like to be that small.” The “Devil Wears Prada” star went on to say that she would prefer the power that comes with being taller. “They would stare at me if I was small as well,” Blunt said. “At least if I was tall, I could crush people if they stare at me.” Segel, who is already 6′ 4″, unsurprisingly selected the same option as Black. “So, I’m either 8′ 4″ or I’m 4′ 4″?” he said. “I guess I’ll go with 4′ 4″ because there are people of that height, they’re managing, and there’s things that are made for them,” he reasoned. “8’4″ is rough. And everybody — well, I guess they’re staring at you either way — [but] they might not see you if you’re 4’4″,” he added. “They’re definitely going to see you if you’re 8’4″. OK, so I’m going to go with 4’4″.” Would you choose to be two feet taller or two feet shorter? Tell us in the comments! Emily Blunt, John Krasinski Wed In Italy

The actors got married in Como on Saturday, after spending the week at George Clooney’s estate there. By Jocelyn Vena Emily Blunt and John Krasinski (file) Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Emily Blunt and John Krasinski , one of MTV News’ favorite pairs of 2009, made their cute-coupledom official on Saturday and got married in Italy, People.com confirms. The pair wed at the Villa D’este in Como, Italy, according to UsMagazine.com . They had been staying at George Clooney’s villa near Lake Como since Independence Day weekend. Clooney and girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis attended the private ceremony. Blunt wore a cream, chiffon, sweetheart-draped Marchesa gown with embroidered detail. “It was an outdoor ceremony and absolutely beautiful,” a source told UsMagazine.com. “It was an official ceremony. They are husband and wife.” The pair met in 2008 and got engaged in August 2009 to much fanfare, as Blunt joked to MTV News last year. Krasinski reportedly popped the question with a 3-carat Edwardian diamond and platinum ring from Neil Lane worth upwards of $100,000. “She’s a wonderful girl,” Krasinski has said the “Devil Wears Prada” star. “So many people say, ‘You know when you know,’ and it’s true. It’s all true.” Last December, while promoting “It’s Complicated,” Krasinski joked that his TV wedding on “The Office” was a “dry run” for the real thing. Leave your congratulatory messages for the pair in the comments!

Delgo Distributor Going Legit With Bill Nighy/Emily Blunt/Rupert Grint Odd-Trio Comedy

Hey-ohhh, the economy is back! For evidence, look no further than the offices of Freestyle Releasing, whose responsibility for laying the single biggest wide-release egg in history is but a distant memory today: The organization will turn over a new leaf with some slightly more (OK, much more) esteemed company.

The Gulliver’s Travels Trailer: Where the Laughs Are Lilliputia

You most likely didn’t have high hopes for Gulliver’s Travels anyway — the poster looks like one of those spoof movies in Tropic Thunder — but goodness is this trailer truly awful . It would be tempting to wonder how far Jack Black has fallen, but since he did star in Year One all bets are clearly off.

Emily Blunt’s Ass in Her Leggings of the Day

I have no idea who Emily Blunt is. I know I’ve heard her name before but I am pretty sure I’ve never seen her in anything and not because I don’t watch movies or TV, but because according to her IMDB, she’s pretty much not even considered an actress and might as well be a fucking extra or the bitch that works for the caterer on set….or just some random bitch running errands who the paparazzi is confusing as someone important enough to take pictures of becuase her pants are jacked up her pussy like the Asian fitness girl I saw earlier today and that was far more exciting than these pictures because her pussy looked so small and inviting in those leggings, while this bitch just looks like some kind of primate….
