‘X Factor’ judge talks breakups and goes ‘old school’ on the latest stop of her summer tour. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato performs at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ on Friday Photo: HOLMDEL, NEW JERSEY — Not even rain showers could scare away the Lovatics who crowded the PNC Bank Arts Center to catch the latest stop on Demi Lovato ‘s summer tour Friday night. The star, who’s fitting in the trek between her judging duties on the “X Factor,” brought out some of New Jersey’s most devoted Demi fans. The star swaggered out to a killer guitar riff before busting out the night’s first song, “All Night Long.” She shimmied all night in red shorts, a black-and-white blazer and a sheer top, never once stumbling in her sky-high platforms. She displayed her rock-star bravado when she teased and flirted with her band during tracks that were hardly audible over all the screams. “Thank you so much for coming,” she told the crowd, “You guys are amazing. Let me just tell you guys, I love being in Jersey. It is one of my favorite places. You guys are the rowdiest fans.” Several tracks in, Demi displayed her musicianship by strapping on an acoustic guitar for “Catch Me,” only to switch over to a yellow electric one mid-song, proving that a ’70s rock goddess lurks inside the 19-year-old. Soon though, it was time to slow it down and she showed off her R&B princess side for the Unbroken ballad, “My Love Is a Star,” her vocal pyrotechnics mirrored by the lightning and thunder taking place just feet away from where the singer was performing. “This next song is a pretty personal song for me,” she told the room. “How many of you guys have been through a breakup? As you all know I’ve been through a few. I’ve been there and I made it through. I love you and I’m always there for you.” She then launched into an emotional version of her track, “Fix a Heart.” The intense moment, in which Lovato looked as though she was struggling to hold back her emotions, was met with cheers. She followed it with her now famous cover of Lil Wayne’s “How To Love.” But, things didn’t stay slow for long. “Who’s That Boy” picked up the pace followed by “You’re My Only Shorty,” “Here We Go Again,” and “La La Land.” And then came the perfect time for her big (albeit fleeting) plug of the night when she reminded room, “Recently I’ve been working on a show ‘X Factor’ [and I get to sit] next to Britney Spears … I’m gonna slow it down a little bit. Basically I just want to see you guys,” she added, requesting that the room hold up a cell phone or glow-stick or lighter if “you’re old school.” The firefly effect only made the impact of her slow jam, “Lightweight,” more grand. Next she sat at the piano and said, “Before my concerts I get to do a meet-and-greet with some of my fans, and some are brave enough to share some of their stories,” however as she got personal a guitar fell and she joked, “Well there goes that moment. … You don’t realize I got through my issues and my problems [because of you guys].” That was the perfect set-up for her defining power ballad, “Skyscraper.” Then, in an interesting twist, she went into the cover of Chris Brown’s “Turn Up the Music.” And to wrap up the first act of the show she did her own tracks “Together” and her rock-tinged “Remember December.” She came back out for her encore to deafening screams where she kept the energy turned up to a big 10 thanks to her disco anthem “Unbroken” and her current single, “Give Your Heart a Break.” Lovato will be on the road through September 1, with her special guests Hot Chelle Rae. The tour wraps up just in time for the premiere of “X Factor” September 12. Related Videos ‘Demi Lovato: Stay Strong’ Demi Lovato’s Year In Review Related Artists Demi Lovato

‘He’s the only person I’d sleep on the ground for,’ one Belieber tells MTV News two days before ‘Today’ show concert. By Uptin Saiidi Justin Bieber Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images NEW YORK — A little rain couldn’t stop die-hard Beliebers and fans of the Wanted fans from camping out to snag front-row spots for their fave acts. On Wednesday afternoon (June 13), approximately 50 Justin Bieber admirers staked out territory outside Rockefeller Center, gearing up for Bieber’s ‘Today’ show performance — two days from now, on Friday morning. Meanwhile, several blocks away, a handful of fans also laid out their sleeping bags outside the Best Buy Theater in anticipation of the Wanted ‘s ticketed Friday night show. MTV News caught up with fans today, they told us a little rain wouldn’t hurt because they came well prepared with sleeping bags, umbrellas and jackets, including a pair of sisters from New Jersey were third in the line for Biebs. “We came to the ‘Today’ show last November, but we were way, way in the back, so we got out front this time,” Hayley, 17, said. “And we’re going to see him this time because he’s amazing and beautiful.” Still, the continuous rain and cloudy weather was making it less than ideal for camping out on the New York City pavement. “The rain has been a big issue because I really don’t like getting my hair wet, honestly, but everybody here has been pretty good,” she added. “We just have umbrellas, because we’re not allowed to have tents.” When it comes to using the bathrooms, the fans were getting creative. “We use the bathroom in the parking garage where our car is,” Hayley noted. “We don’t really have anywhere else to go, so we go wherever we can get in.” Yasmin, 13, was using Twitter to pass the time … and keep constant updates on Justin. “While we’re waiting for Justin, we’re basically on Twitter, reading his tweets and everything.” A valuable way to pass the time, considering Bieber tweeted just today that he’ll be bringing along a special guest for his NBC appearance. Another way fans were passing the time was to make friends with their fellow fans. “All the Beliebers are here, it’s kind of like one giant party in the street, so it’s been good,” Amanda, 15, said.”When he comes out onstage, it’s just going to hit us and he’s just going to be right there, like, practically singing to us,” she gushed. “He’s my idol; he’s the only person I’d sleep on the ground for, for two nights.” Meanwhile, a few blocks away at Times Square’s Best Buy Theater, about half a dozen Wanted fans from Staten Island (who already had tickets) waited with coloring books, in hopes of making sure they’d be in the front row. The Wanted fans seemed a bit luckier than Bieber fans in that they had an awning to camp out under. “The rain it’s been all right. We’ve managed, we have umbrellas, sleeping bags, coats, everything, so it’s been pretty OK,” Melissa, 24, said. “It’s worth it because the energy they provide onstage is worth being front row, I don’t know how to describe it, it’s a different feeling than if you were in the back,” Melissa further explained. When asked how she’d feel when the guys finally take to the stage Friday night, she smiled, “We’ll feel relief. Relief and excitement.” Would you camp out in the rain to see your favorite singer? ‘My show is evolving … so it’s going to be more themed,’ Wiz teases. Tune in tonight at 9 p.m. ET on MTV! By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News Spielberg, if you’re watching on Sunday (June 3), you might want to keep an eye on Wiz Khalifa . The Taylor Gang captain is set to take the stage at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards where he’ll perform his new single “Work Hard, Play Hard” . And while Wiz will show off his musical talents, Hollywood may also get a glimpse of his acting chops. “My show is evolving and everything that I’m doing, so it’s going to be more themed,” Wiz told MTV News’ Sway Calloway after his rehearsal at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. “It’s for the Movie [Awards], so it’s going to be more theatrical. … People are going to see that side of it as well as me performing and giving my energy.” Khalifa has already done some on-camera work. Last, year he and Snoop Dogg shot their upcoming stoner comedy “Mac & Devin Go to High School.” It was Wiz’s first acting gig, but by the time the movie wrapped, the Pittsburgh MC could see his own progress.” I had to do makeup every day to cover my tattoos. I had to spray my hair to get the blond out, but it was cool. It was an experience, and it was really, really fun to be a novice at acting, be brand-new and then have to learn,” Khalifa told us last December. “I watched the movie, and I can actually see myself getting better in the movie.” For now, however, Wiz seems mostly focused on the music. On August 28, he’s scheduled to drop his sophomore album, O.N.I.F.C. (Only N—a in First Class), and fans will get to hear him perform the LP’s first single on Sunday night during the big show. Of course, tonight’s “theatrical” set should build anticipation for the upcoming album and, if it helps Wiz land a new acting gig or two, he’d welcome the opportunity. “That would be tight,” he said with his signature Khalifa cackle. Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to cast your vote for Best Hero and Best Movie now! The “Movie Awards Punk’d Pre-Party” starts at 8 p.m. ET, followed by the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards live tonight at 9 p.m. ET! ‘Look out for the unexpected when it comes to her,’ Gaga’s co-manager says of the follow-up to Born This Way. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Jason Kempin/ Getty Images If there’s one positive that Lady Gaga fans can take from her decision to cancel a June 3 concert in Indonesia , perhaps it’s this: at least she’ll have more time to work on her album. Yes, though she’s currently in the midst of a two-year world tour, Gaga is already hard at work on the follow-up to 2011’s Born This Way and, according to her co-manager, she’s going to push the boundaries even further this time around (which is sure to please those Indonesian Islamic groups ). “There’s a lot of work to come, [I’m] very excited about it,” Vincent Herbert revealed in a new interview with website That Grape Juice. “[It’s] just [an] insane, great record. She’s on tour right now, but it’s just going to be a great record. Look out for the unexpected when it comes to her. We’re doing it on the road right now, so it’s a little hard, but it’s going to be great.” Herbert wouldn’t reveal specifics — tentative release date, title, who she’s been working with, etc. — about the new album, but the news that she’s recording on the road is actually in keeping with the way she began work on Born This Way, when standout tracks like “Marry The Night” took shape with producer Fernando Garibay during her long-running Monster Ball Tour. “I just kind of got on the American leg of the tour … and she goes, ‘I want to write another song that can define where I’m at with this album and my life,’ ” Garibay told MTV News last year. “I go back to the studio bus; I’m just working on parts … and then, two hours later, she comes offstage and she goes, ‘Do you have something to play me?’ And I go, ‘I do, actually.’ “So I played her the instrumental for ‘Marry the Night,’ and she goes, ‘Open up a mic,’ ” Garibay continued. “She starts laying down the whole song, like, off the cuff … right off the stage, using the energy of that crowd and going into the studio, it was amazing. I can’t compare it to anything.” What do you hope the Born This Way follow-up will sound like? Tell us in the comments section! Related Artists Lady Gaga
