By Rob Markman Drake Photo: MTV News Drake has been cooped up inside for far too long, and now the Young Money standout is ready to breathe some fresh air into his Club Paradise Tour . On Thursday morning (March 22), Drizzy announced a 27-city amphitheater run that will begin on May 7 at the Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord, California. “I feel like this tour is coming at the perfect time,” Drake said in a press release issued to MTV News. “It’s taking place in the season that we all wait for, we’re outdoors and you’ve got every single artist you wait to hear in the club on one bill … that’s Club Paradise.” will ride out with Drake as an opening act, and Waka Flocka Flame, Meek Mill, 2 Chainz and French Montana will all support unspecified dates. On the first leg of his tour, Mr. OVO sold out a string of U.S. college dates with Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky before taking the show across the pond to a number of European venues like London’s O2 Arena and the Oslo Spektrum in Norway. This time out, the “Take Care” rapper will hit a number of outdoor venues like the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Aaron’s Amphitheatre in Atlanta and the Jones Beach Theater in Long Island, New York. Drake will also rock the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, and the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee, before wrapping up the run at Boston’s Comcast Center. One Direction Announce Headlining U.S. Tour

Chart-topping British boy band will kick off tour on May 24 in Fairfax, Virginia. By Jocelyn Vena One Direction Photo: Redferns With their record-breaking debut album, Up All Night, topping the charts , One Direction plan to hit the road for their first-ever headlining tour in the States. The U.K. boy band will kick off the trek May 24 in Fairfax, Virginia, as part of a North American tour set to wrap up on July 1 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with stops along the way in cities like Chicago, New York, Atlanta and Las Vegas. News of the guys’ tour comes as Up All Night made One Direction the first British group to have a debut album at #1 on the Billboard 200 on Wednesday (March 21). U.S. hysteria for the guys has been over-the-top, with hard-core fans wildly greeting them at stops all over the country. But one of the 1D fellas, Niall Horan, explained to MTV News that the band’s truly appreciative of all the fan love . “No way were we expecting it to do anything like that,” he said of enthusiasm for the album in the States. “We haven’t spent that much time out here and obviously not a lot of people know us, but the power of our fans, they never seem to stop amazing us. They’re absolutely brilliant and they’ve bought the album in great numbers.” Want the scoop on One Direction’s dapper boy-band style? Head over to MTV Style! This won’t be the guys’ first tour in America, though. Earlier this year One Direction toured with Big Time Rush, and things got pretty crazy, according to Horan. “Since we’ve been here, we did Radio City [Music Hall in New York] with Big Time Rush, and when we were leaving the venue, there was a lot of people waiting outside for us and it was like the movies,” he recalled. “We were trying to drive away. [Fans] were running through traffic. It was literally like something you’d see in a movie.” It doesn’t seem the hysteria is going to die down anytime soon. Before 1D even hit the road in May, they’ll perform at the Kids’ Choice Awards on March 31, and then they’ll take the “Saturday Night Live” stage a week later, on April 7. And all this buzz around the five Brits has fans wondering if they might be getting their own show on Nickelodeon . But Horan said that’s not the case, for now at least. “We’ve just been doing stuff with Nickelodeon. They’ve been brilliant to us; they’ve been really good to us. [But] there’s no sign of a TV show,” he said. “We haven’t heard anything. We’re obviously doing the Kids’ Choice and stuff, but there’s no deal been done or anything [for a show]. They’re just kind of helping us out, I suppose.” One Direction tour dates so far, according to band’s record label:

T.I. And B.o.B Wave Grand Hustle Flag At SXSW

Grand Hustle artists were joined by Wale, Meek Mill, Curren$y at Warner Music showcase. By Nadeska Alexis T.I. and B.o.B perform at SXSW Photo: Universal Pictures AUSTIN, Texas — There was no shortage of options in Austin, Texas, on Thursday night if you happened to be a hip-hop fan at SXSW on the hunt for a good show. While Lil Wayne and YMCMB put their talents on display at Austin Music Hall, just five minutes down the road T.I. , B.o.B , Wale , Meek Mill and Curren$y brought down the house at the Warner Sound showcase. MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway hosted the event at La Zona Rosa, where Grand Hustle Records had a triumphant night and Maybach Music Group continued to rep their expanding roster. Curren$y, Kirko Bangz and XV got the packed house adequately warmed up for a night that easily stretched into the wee hours of Friday morning (March 16). Grand Hustle announced their arrival with B.o.B’s raucous entrance to “Beast Mode,” backed by a live band. His next number, “How Bout Dat,” commanded a fleet of backup dancers. He followed that with the upbeat single “Magic” off his debut album, B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray. The song faded into a dubstep beat, pushing the dancers front and center to showcase their moves before the venue finally went dark. With nothing to see or hear, the crowd hung back, wondering what would be next. That would be Mr. Grand Hustle himself. “They say Grand Hustle is in the building,” Tip announced over the mic, followed by a long pause before “I’m Back” came booming through the speakers. “Rubberband Man” was a natural choice to follow, sending the crowd soaring along with “U Don’t Know Me.” Tip took a break only to plug his upcoming eighth album, Trouble Man, which is tentatively due out this summer, before continuing with fan favorites like “What You Know” and one of his more recent singles, “Pyro.” From there, B.o.B and T.I. continued to tag-team the set, and Tip was proud to announce that this was the first time he and his signee had “done a full show together.” Playboy Tre was on hand for “Bet I Bust.” “Don’t Let Me Fall” was delivered on acoustic guitar, and T.I. even threw in “Whatever You Like” to round out Bobby Ray’s “Airplanes” and “Strange Clouds,” the title track of his upcoming album. It was already after midnight when MMG rappers Meek Mill, Stalley and Wale finally took the stage. Meek and Stalley were up first, with energetic singles like “I’ma Boss” aiming to keep the crowd going. Wale did his part to keep the energy alive, performing his hits “Lotus Flower Bomb” and “Slight Work” and commanding a guest appearance from Travis Porter. The D.C. rapper closed out the night with his street anthem “Bait” and the cult favorite “No Hands.” Related Artists T.I. B.o.B Wale Meek Mill

N.W.A Movie Progressing At ‘High Speed,’ Ice Cube Says

’21 Jump Street’ star tells MTV News, ‘We’re waiting to hire a director and then bring it all home.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Ice Cube Photo: MTV News In addition to his comedic work in “21 Jump Street,” Ice Cube has been busy behind the camera, attempting to put two passion projects together as a producer. In recent months, rumors have swirled about a fourth “Friday” movie and a biopic on the members of N.W.A. When MTV News’ Josh Horowitz sat down with the rapper-turned-actor and producer, Cube offered an update on the latter. Addressing rumors that his “Boyz n the Hood” director, John Singleton , could possibly helm the project based on the rap group, Ice Cube basically said that he couldn’t say. “We’re interviewing a lot of directors. I don’t want to say ‘ye’ or ‘nay,’ but we’re interviewing directors,” he said. “So, the movie’s in progress in this high speed, and it’s coming along. Hopefully, we get it done.” The director remains the biggest missing piece of the puzzle, as Ice Cube confirmed that the script is where it needs to be for the flick to move forward. “I’m happy with the script. The script is about 75 percent there. We’re waiting to hire a director and then bring it all home,” he said. “It’s always stumbling blocks in Hollywood. There are always ways that the movie can not get made. Until they green-light the picture, start cutting checks, it’s still just a dream.” The most prevalent rumor around casting the film has been that the members’ sons will play their fathers. Cube said he wouldn’t have a problem with his son playing him, but he wants a traditional casting process first. “That’s a dream come true, but we’re going to find the best actor to do the job. That’s the thing about movies: You have got to find the best people to do the role,” he said. “It is going to be a role that I think is right for unknowns, people who you haven’t seen before. I think that’s the best way to pull this off.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Elizabeth Banks Is A ‘Total Geek’ Around ‘Hunger Games’ Author

‘I’ve professed my love for her pretty much,’ Banks tells MTV News of Suzanne Collins. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Capitol Couture Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth — all names you’ll want to stand up and applaud for when the credits roll on “The Hunger Games,” no doubt. But if there’s one person you’ll really want to tip your hat to, it’s Suzanne Collins. Like J.K. Rowling with the “Harry Potter” series and Stephenie Meyer of “Twilight” fame, Collins is the novelist who dreamed Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne into existence. Without her, you wouldn’t have a tribute to fight for. Without her, you wouldn’t be on the cusp of what’s sure to be 2012’s biggest blockbuster so far. Certainly, actress Elizabeth Banks identifies Collins as the great hero of the “Hunger Games” franchise. In fact, “hero” isn’t a strong enough description — to Banks, Collins is a full-fledged rock star. “To me, the biggest star here is Suzanne Collins,” the actress and hard-core “Hunger Games” fan told MTV News about her feelings on the novel’s author. “She created this entire world, all of this pandemonium, all these characters. She birthed this whole situation. She couldn’t be a nicer lady. She’s the loveliest lady, and I’m a total geek around her. To me, she’s a total rock star.” Just as many fans would kill for the chance to spend time with the “Hunger Games” cast, so too did Banks swoon over getting one-on-one time in with Collins. “I’ve professed my love for her pretty much,” Banks laughed. “The books are done, and they’re the books, so she doesn’t need me to dissect them with her, but I’m very happy that she’s happy with the film. So to me, it was always about, ‘Let’s make director Gary Ross happy with the film, let’s make Suzanne happy. Everyone else, who cares.’ ” Of course, Banks cares very much about the fans, a group she described as “unbelievable.” “The passion of everyone here is crazy. It’s very exciting,” said Banks. “I’m very excited to see this movie with an audience. I saw it in a small room with two other people, so the energy in the room is going to be ballistically bananas. I brought tissues. It’s very emotional, this movie! I cried making it; It’s very emotional for me.” If Banks is already emotional over “Hunger Games,” she’ll want to bring plenty of tissues with her for “Catching Fire,” the planned sequel to the Collins-inspired movie. Though Banks wouldn’t confirm a start date for “Catching Fire,” she did tease a fashion item that she might end up wearing in the sequel. “In the books, Effie appears at the Reaping in a green dress,” she teased. “I did not wear the green dress in the movie. But we have it. It exists. So I think we’ll break that one out in ‘Catching Fire.’ ” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Jay-Z Brings Swag To His First-Ever SXSW Solo Show

‘SXSW, you’re welcome!’ MC tells crowd of 2,800 before performing favorites like ’99 Problems’ and ‘Dirt Off Your Shoulder.’ By Kara Warner Jay-Z performs in Austin, Texas on Monday Photo: Thomas Fishman/MTV AUSTIN, Texas — If Jay-Z fans thought his appearance at last year’s South by Southwest Music Festival was a big deal, his first-ever solo performance at Austin City Limits Moody Theater on Monday night (March 12) was the opener to end all opening events, and bodes well for the action-packed week of events to come. Officially entitled the “Amex Sync Show Presenting Jay-Z,” fans around the world were able to take part in the show via its livestream in conjunction with a new Twitter initiative for American Express cardholders. MTV News was lucky enough to score tickets to the highly anticipated event. Jay took the stage shortly after 7:30 p.m. CT, dressed casually except for the gold bling around his neck and wrist, opening with “What More Can I Say?” “SXSW, you’re welcome!” he shouted to a very diverse and enthusiastic crowd of 2,800. This was followed by familiar favorite “Dirt Off Your Shoulder,” which featured the first of countless crowd sing-alongs. As his most dedicated fans have come to expect, the man showcased his serious lyrical skills with a perfect mix of hits new and old. From “99 Problems,” to “Big Pimpin’,” to “Excuse Me Miss” (at the start of which he asked us all to “two step”) to the sweet and sentimental “Glory,” Jay kept the crowd hanging on his every word, manipulating our energy masterfully with mostly up-tempo tracks that kept everyone on their feet. Ever the perfectionist, if Jay stumbled on a word or two in a track or didn’t feel like he was totally on point, he would stop mid-song and re-start, for which he had the crowd’s undying support. “I don’t f— around with the words to my songs, y’all. You came to see a live show right?” In addition to totally rocking the house, Jay seemed to be genuinely having a great time onstage. There were several times during the nearly 90-minute set when we saw him break out into full-on grins. “I’m having a good time tonight I must say,” he told the crowd and then later showed his fans respect by acknowledging their energy. “Y’all going to make me crawl away from here tonight,” he said just before busting into “Encore.” There were diamonds in the sky in Austin tonight for sure. ‘Avengers’ Fans Should Feel ‘Exhausted And Fulfilled,’ Joss Whedon Says

At South by Southwest film festival, ‘Cabin in the Woods’ scribe tells MTV News, ‘It’s a ride.’ By Kara Warner Joss Whedon Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images Joss Whedon has a big year ahead of him. In a little more than a month, fans will finally get to see the long-delayed horror movie “The Cabin in the Woods,” followed a few weeks later by the release of one of this summer’s most highly anticipated tent poles, “The Avengers.” When MTV News caught up with Whedon during the South by Southwest film festival press day for “Cabin in the Woods,” we asked him how his superhero film is coming together. “The most satisfying thing about ‘The Avengers’ is that soon I will finish it,” he said with a weary smile. “That’s quite an undertaking — although listening to Alan Silvestri conduct an 80-piece orchestra didn’t suck. It was a really beautiful experience,” he said of watching the Oscar-nominated composer at work. “He did such a great job: You’re listening to live music and watching your movie form in a way that it doesn’t until it has that music. That was exciting.” Another exciting aspect of the filmmaking process was interacting with his A-list actors: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg and Tom Hiddleston, to name a few. Whedon said he enjoyed “just having them all.” “When they would be together, the energy that they would give each other, the way they play off each other, the way they protect each other narratively, making sure that whoever they were coming up against had as much juice as they did. It would be easy to imagine that they would be all be like ‘me, me, me,’ and it was always ‘us, us, us,’ and that was really fun,” he explained. “Except sometimes they would just gossip so much and talk. ‘Guys, we’re rolling. We have to make a movie. This isn’t a party; this isn’t the green room.’ ” The “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Firefly” mastermind said he hopes audiences feel just as worn out at the end as he was making it. “I want them to feel exhausted and fulfilled,” he shared. “Not unlike ‘Cabin,’ it’s a ride, and we put the screws to them. We really put the characters through it, and we want the audience to be with them every step of the way and come out of it going, ‘That was an extraordinary experience, and now I want to pay to see it again.’ ” Someone who didn’t have to wait to pay to see the finished product is Whedon’s “Cabin” co-writer and director Drew Goddard. “Drew’s seen it: He saw the very first assembly,” Whedon said. “He was one of the first people I came to and said, ‘Where did I go right?’ ” Goddard could only offer a one-word review via third person: “Drew’s been told he’s not allowed to say anything about it,” Goddard said with a smile. “But it’s awesome.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Taylor Kitsch Feels ‘Weird’ About Heartthrob Status

‘I only have about 6,200 mirrors at my house,’ he jokes during ‘MTV First: John Carter.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Kitsch Photo: MTV News Those who are most familiar with Taylor Kitsch likely know him from one role and one show: Tim Riggins and “Friday Night Lights.” The tortured hero is a special favorite among Kitsch’s female fans and catapulted him to serious heartthrob status. When MTV News caught up with Kitsch during “MTV First: John Carter” on Thursday, we asked if it ever gets old being objectified. “Yes, it gets old,” he admitted. “It makes you feel weird. You get awkward like I am right now. Hopefully, it doesn’t turn into validation of self. It is what it is. It’s flattering, but at the end of the day, I only have about 6,200 mirrors at my house,” he joked. “It’s no big deal. Who doesn’t?” Kitsch has previously stated that he understands and appreciates ladies’ love for Riggins but that he doesn’t want to disappoint them when they find out he isn’t actually the same guy they love from the show. Speaking of the rugged bad boy, we had to address the oft-mentioned “Friday Night Lights” movie, which show runner and likely director Peter Berg told us recently is still in the works. Although Kitsch still seems satisfied with how the show ended, he is intrigued by the idea of the movie. “First of all, it would be very hard to say no to Berg,” he said. “Secondly, I love that guy [Riggins], and he is truly a huge reason why I’m here, but I love the way we left him, I truly do. I’d love to read this script that we have just floating around.” But what fans really want Kitsch to answer: Lyla or Tyra? “Maybe neither?” he hedged. “Maybe we have to explore that.” Check out everything we’ve got on “John Carter.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Justin Bieber’s Birthday Bash: What Could It Look Like?

Party planner Colin Cowie tells MTV News the fete would involve Beyonce, spaghetti and an ‘amazing, over-the-top’ cake. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage As Justin Bieber heads into his birthday weekend, we’re sure the newly legal star has some big plans to celebrate. To get an idea of what a Justin Bieber 18th Birthday Mega Bash might look like, we turned to party planner to the stars Colin Cowie, who dished on how he’d plan out the Bieb’s big par-tay. “Since it’s his first real big birthday and he really plays to a big world, he deserves a big party,” Cowie said. “And I would pull out all the stops.” Everything from the location to the food to the entertainment has to live up to Bieber’s celebrity, but also has to still feel intimate. “I’d take a great nightclub and throw a fabulous party in a nightclub, not too big … invite 200 of his best friends,” he explained, suggesting Manhattan hot spot the Double Seven as a possible location. “I think I would use a combination of a DJ to start with, get the crowd going, add a couple live musicians just to build the energy and then have a live band,” he said of the entertainment. “And maybe Usher puts together a great musical repertoire, invites someone like Beyonc
