The Queen is among six other recipients slated to receive the prestigious Black Culture Award named after cultural, civil rights and literary icon W.E.B Dubois, who was also the first African American to graduate from Harvard in 1895. Other honorees include poet and educator Elizabeth Alexander, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution Lonnie Bunch III, poet Rita Dove, co-founder of Black Entertainment Television Sheila Johnson, artist Kerry James Marshall and Robert Smith, founder, chairman, and chief executive of Vista Equity Partners. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on October 22 at the school’s Hutchins Center for African and African American Research. In other Queen Latifah news, over the last week fans got a glimpse of the iconic artist tapping into her inner “Ursula” as she readies for her live performance in the ABC live musical television version of Disney’s Little Mermaid , Little Mermaid Live! . Last week, ABC tweeted out a teaser featuring Queen Latifah singing “poor unfortunate souls”, before revealing the entire cast in full costume. Riley will appear as the emcee for the show and will present the “Daughters of Triton” with a special performance for “King Triton” and his subjects. Riley joins previously announced cast members Auli’i Cravalho (Ariel), Queen Latifah (Ursula), Shaggy (Sebastian), John Stamos (Chef Louis), and Graham Phillips (Prince Eric). According to ABC , The Little Mermaid Live! will combine live-action with animation and puppetry as a part of The Wonderful World of Disney franchise, but will not be associated with Disney’s official live version starring Halle Bailey . The Little Mermaid Live! will air on ABC Nov. 5 at 8pm in honor of the 30th anniversary of the animated movie.

According to The Blast , Nicki Minaj and Tracy Chapman have failed to reach an agreement during court-ordered mediation in the copyright infringement case. Chapman is accusing Minaj of unlawfully sampling her song “Baby Can I Hold You” for the track “Sorry,” but Minaj reportedly confirmed in court documents that the song never made it to her album because Chapman didn’t approve the sample. Chapman and her attorneys, however, accuse Minaj of leaking the record to Funkmaster Flex who debuted the song on his show, which Minaj denies. The publication reports that documents from the attempted mediation note that on October 2 the parties tried to privately hash out their issues; citing “the mediation was unsuccessful, and no settlement was reached. The settlement is not imminent,” after the “Fendi” rapper denied committing copyright infringement, and reportedly claimed fair use as her defense. Minaj also allegedly argued that Chapman doesn’t own the copyright herself, and is asking for the lawsuit to be dismissed. It seems that lawsuits, lackluster sales, and Twitter jabs have gotten to the Queen Radio host, which is what many fans speculate led to her abrupt retirement announcement. As previously reported , Nicki Minaj recently announced her retirement from Rap to “focus on building her family” back in August before recanting the decision one week later in early September. Nicki did give insight into the decision while responding to a fan saying: “I’m still right here. Still madly in love with you guys & you know that. In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything. The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologize babe.”  The copyright lawsuit is slated to go to forward to court.

No official start date for The Batman has been revealed, but “insiders’ told the publication that filming could begin late 2019 or early 2020. The Batman is slated for a June 25, 2021, nationwide release. Kravitz, who is coming off a successful second season of the popular HBO show, Big Little Lies , will also be starring in the Hulu series High Fidelity . She joins Anne Hatheway, who played the thief and sometimes Batman’s love interest in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises . Michelle Pfeiffer successfully took on the role of Selina Kyle Batman Returns teaming up with Danny DeVito’s Penguin opposite Michael Keaton who played the caped crusader. Catwoman also had her own solo movie starring Halle Berry. The film, unfortunately, flopped super-hard. It is still considered to be one of the worst superhero flicks ever. Kravitz casting sounds like a good move by Reeves, who did receive a bit of criticism for opting to go with Pattinson to play the billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne. 34-year-old  Aaron York Dean  is behind bars this evening , hours after he resigned as a member of the Fort Worth Police Department. He’s been charged with murder in the shooting of 28-year-old  Atatiana Jefferson in her home on Saturday. Dean, who had been a member of the Fort Worth Police Department since April 2018 is currently listed as an inmate in the Tarrant County Jail. Dean failed to cooperate with investigators in regards to the shooting as body cam footage showed him approaching Jefferson’s window and asking her to put her hands up before firing his weapon. In his resignation Dean wrote, “Effective immediately I am tendering my resignation from the Fort Worth Police Department.”

Fort Worth officer Aaron Den was slated to be fired according to the department’s chief. As reported by local outlet CBSDFW.com, Dean, who shot and killed Jefferson inside her home after performing a welfare check on the apartment early last Saturday, was going to be fired Monday according to a press conference statement from Chief Ed Kraus. As has been widely reported, Dean entered the apartment where Jefferson was playing video games with her nephew before the officer unloaded his weapon and fatally shooting her. Kraus says that Dean resigned before he was interviewed by the department and that he expects the officer to face criminal charges, which many activists on social media have called for.
