For the first time, Simon Cowell has spoken out about Zayn Malik leaving One Direction . And, no, unlike some, the music icon did not compare Malik to a terrorist . At an event celebrating the ninth season of Britain’s Got Talent, however, Cowell did say Zayn is a “fantastic singer,” adding of the young star: “He’s got to get his head together a little bit. He needs some time on his own, as he said, to be a normal 22-year-old, which he’s gonna have.” Simon Cowell Addresses Zayn Malik Departure It’s true: in his stunning statement that announced his departure from the group, Malik said he needed a break from the spotlight. Serayah Talks ‘Empire’ And New Music She’s gone from unknown to it girl in just under four months ever since her breakout role as Tiana Brown on Fox’s smash hit series, Empire . But before Empire , Serayah was receiving rave reviews on her Soundcloud account for her original music and notable covers. Now, capitalizing on her newfound notoriety, she has agreed to release her first mixtape this summer as an independent pop artist. Surprisingly, Empire is Serayah’s first acting role EVER. The 19-year-old Cali native was just starting to pursue her dreams of singing and dancing when the opportunity of a lifetime fell right into her lap: I was doing a lot of modeling, music, and dancing. My good friend from high school told me about the audition and it just turned out to be a perfect role for me. I’ve definitely fallen in love with the camera, but music is my first love, so that is something I’m always going to do — dancing as well. So I’m going to do it all! Not only is it the first time she’s acted, but it’s the first time she has been recorded on an album. And both projects skyrocketed to number one. It’s like I went from writing music in my room to being on a number one album. Honestly, it’s a blessing. I’m really just blown away by the whole thing. So what does she have to say to the comparisons to Teyana Taylor that came pretty much since the moment she appeared on-screen? I never even knew that comparison until [Iman Shumpert] came out with the statement. I really don’t think so. I actually heard a lot of people say Rihanna, but I think that’s more because of the music. So is Tiana based on anyone? I did speak with the directors and we talked about Lauren Hill and Beyonce and Rihanna, as far as performing and bringing that out. Those were our influences. Can The Vampire Diaries exist without its leading lady, Elena Gilbert? That’s the question of the hour now that the reality is sinking in about Nina Dobrev leaving The Vampire Diaries after Season 6 draws to a close next month. Nina may not have broken the Internet a la Kim Kardashian nude in Paper , but she sure gave it a nice jolt with her departure announcement on Monday. Her exit immediately raised the inevitable questions of why – and whether it was solely due to the engagement of her ex Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed . Moreover, it has sparked debate over the hit show’s future on the CW, and whether it should even have one once its lead female star bows out in May. The official answer is yes, the show will go on, at least for one year. While it’s no longer a ratings juggernaut, TVD has already been renewed for Season 7 and, in turn, will return this fall to continue its wildly successful run. How successful it will be sans Dobrev is another matter, though. Will it experience a creative resurgence in her absence, or simply limp over the finish line, a shadow of its former self that we barely even recognize?
