Bobby Brown Leaves Whitney Houston Funeral Early, Releases Statement

After days spent arguing with Whitney Houston’s family over whether or not he’d attend his ex-wife funeral, multiple sources confirm that Bobby Brown continued arguing with his former in-laws today. And actually left the memorial after just 20 minutes as a result. Both E! News and TMZ report that Brown brought an entourage of nine people in to the Newark church. It’s unclear exactly what happened from there, but the singer was spotted exiting the house of worship shortly after the service began. “I am at Whitney’s funeral. I spoke with Bobby Brown trying to calm him down and not distract from the services. Today is about Whitney!” Al Sharpton Tweeted, while Access Hollywood ‘s Shaun Robinson says a “seating arrangement” dispute was at play. Brown also has a concert gig tonight in Connecticut with New Edition, but it’s believed this disagreement with Whitney’s family is the reason why he left the premises so quickly. UPDATE: Brown has released the following statement: “My children and I were invited to the funeral of my ex-wife Whitney Houston. We were seated by security and then subsequently asked to move on three separate occasions. I fail to understand why security treated my family this way and continue to ask us and no one else to move. Security then prevented me from attempting to see my daughter Bobbi-Kristina. “In light of the events, I gave a kiss to the casket of my ex-wife and departed as I refused to create a scene. My children are completely distraught over the events. This was a day to honor Whitney. I doubt Whitney would have wanted this to occur. I will continue to pay my respects to my ex-wife the best way I know how.” [Photo: WENN.com]

For some reason Bobby left during the service, and he has released a statement explaining why. CNN reported that Bobby Brown along with his other children and family members and were not able to be seated in the church because of the size of his entourage. After being asked several times by security to move, Bobby and his family exited the funeral. Bobby released the following statement explaining the situation: “My children and I were invited to the funeral of my ex-wife Whitney Houston. We were seated by security and then subsequently asked to move on three separate occasions. “I fail to understand why security treated my family this way and continue to ask us and no one else to move. Earlier reports stated that former husband Bobby Brown was unwanted at Whitney’s funeral. However Bobby said that was false and did arrive to the funeral as planned. However Bobby misunderstood or flat out did not care about how many invites he had. Just 20 minutes after Bobby arrived you can see him depart with his nine person entourage after getting into an argument with family members at the funeral.  Bobby walked up and touched the casket then walked to the back of the church. Allegedly he had a seat up near his daughter but the rest of his entourage would have to make other arrangements. Along Bobby’s side was also his son Landon and other friends and family members.  Reports are saying the family did not want Brown to even attend the funeral siting he was one of the main reasons Whitney had her untimely passing.  However after Rev. Al Sharpton stepped in and tried to calm the situation down Bobby was frustrated and departed the church (as seen in video below caught by TMZ).  And before stepping back in the church Rev. Al tweeted “spoke with Bobby Brown, trying to calm him down and not distract from the services. Today is a day about Whitney!” 1.1024958#ixzz1mlX3Pj2y

Whitney Houston’s Memorial: What We Know So Far

Before Saturday’s memorial, we take a look back at a week’s worth of news following the untimely passing of a pop icon. By John Mitchell Whitney Houston Photo: Jan Persson/ Getty Images Music fans around the world were shocked when reports of Whitney Houston ‘s unexpected death were confirmed last Saturday. The singer had been staying at the Beverly Hilton Hotel as she prepared for Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party and was seen out on the town in the days before her passing. While the Los Angeles County coroner’s office has not confirmed the cause of the legendary “I Will Always Love You” singer’s death, a lethal mix of prescription medication and alcohol is heavily rumored to be the culprit. The week since Houston’s passing has been a hectic one, as officials scramble to find out what killed the singer and whether negligence on the part of medical professionals treating her is at least partially to blame. Meanwhile, Houston’s family, friends, fans and music-industry peers continue to mourn the star, who will be laid to rest Saturday (February 18) in her native Newark, New Jersey . Flags across the state will be flown at half-staff this weekend out of respect for Houston. With so much information pouring in since Houston’s death, it’s been difficult to discern what is fact, speculation and pure rumor. So as the world prepares for her memorial service, we have pulled together what we know so far about Houston’s passing, the impact it’s had on the entertainment industry, the reaction of her fans, family and friends, and her legacy. Houston’s Untimely Death Twitter first ignited with rumors of Houston’s death last Saturday after emergency medical professionals were called to the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The sad rumor was confirmed to MTV News by Houston’s rep, Kristen Foster, with Beverly Hills Police Lieutenant Mark Rosen telling on-scene reporters , “Someone in her entourage found her unresponsive in her room. … Our detectives are still in the room, and her body is still here as well. I can confirm that Whitney Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. this afternoon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. We received a call at 3:43 p.m. from hotel security and Beverly Hills Fire, and police responded minutes later.” Houston was found in the bathtub of her hotel suite by a member of her personal staff. Paramedics initiated CPR on the “I Will Always Love You” singer but were unable to revive her. No illegal drugs were found in Houston’s suite, however, prescription medication was discovered . On Monday, Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office downplayed speculation that Houston had succumbed to an accidental overdose, saying “not many prescription bottles” were found, adding that the amount of medication found did not correspond with the amounts typically present in deaths attributed to overdose. Rather, the current leading theory remains that it was combining those medications (heavily rumored to be Xanax and other mood-altering benzodiazepines) with alcohol that led to the star’s death . Houston’s family is, of course, deeply distraught over her unexpected passing. Daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown was taken by paramedics from the Beverly Hilton Hotel to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in a state of emotional distress early Sunday. Her father and Houston’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown , flew to California to be with his daughter after breaking down himself onstage Saturday night. “First of all, I want to tell you that I love you all,” Brown told the audience at a New Edition concert in Mississippi. “Second, I would like to say, ‘I love you Whitney.’ The hardest thing for me to do is come on this stage.” Houston’s family released a statement, saying, “We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Whitney. This is an unimaginable tragedy and we will miss her terribly. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from her fans and friends.” Music-Industry Reaction The reaction to Houston’s death was swift, as stars expressed their grief on Twitter, in statements through their representatives and in person to press assembled at the 54th Grammy Awards on Sunday — just one day after her passing. The most immediate responses to her death hit Twitter early Saturday evening. Mariah Carey was among the first to issue a statement, tweeting, “My heartfelt condolences to Whitney’s family and to all her millions of fans throughout the world. She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth.” Rihanna and Nicki Minaj hit the social network to express their sadness soon after. Rihanna wrote, “No words! Just tears #DearWhitney.” Unable to hide her grief, Minaj was a bit more profane, tweeting, “Jesus Christ, not Whitney Houston. Greatest of all time,” along with a vintage photo of the late singer alongside Michael Jackson. “The loss of Whitney Houston is painful. I remember meeting Whitney for the first time when I was 15. She was the ultimate legend. The ultimate woman,” Beyonc

Chris Brown Denies Grammy Weekend Pick-Up Line

‘That is absurd and absolutely not true,’ he said of telling a woman, ‘Can I get your number? I promise I won’t beat you!’ By Jocelyn Vena Chris Brown Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP / Getty Images On Thursday, a report surfaced that at a Grammy suite last week, Chris Brown used a pick-up line on a girl that left her feeling uncomfortable. Sources tell UsMagazine.com that Brown approached a woman at the Lasio Professional Hair Care suite Grammy gift lounge on February 10 and told her, “Can I get your number? I promise I won’t beat you!” The woman he reportedly used the line on added, “He and his friends laughed, then one yelled, ‘That’s his new line!’ Ugh! I wanted to throw up!” Both he and his rep denied the woman’s allegation.”That is absurd and absolutely not true,” Brown said in a statement to TMZ . “I did not say that nor would I joke about that.” Amid speculation that he will appear on Rihanna ‘s reworked “Birthday Cake” track , rumors about Brown’s personal life continue to swirl. He reportedly was at her birthday party in L.A. earlier this week. TMZ reports that Brown “refused” to enter the party at the Hearst Mansion in Beverly Hills unless partygoers signed confidentiality agreements handed out by his entourage. While some did, others refused. Despite denying they are romantically involved again, Brown and Rihanna were “nuzzling” and “holding hands,” according to TMZ sources. The Monday night party was also attended by Ri’s pals like Chris Martin, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars. The news comes just days after he took to Twitter to blast the critics of his Grammy win and performances . “Strange how we pick and choose who to hate!” Brown reportedly wrote on the now-deleted spree. “Let me ask u this. Our society is full of rappers (which I listen to) who have sold drugs (poisoning). But yet we glorify them and imitate everything they do. Then right before the worlds eyes a man shows how he can make a Big mistake and learn from it, but still has to deal with day to day hatred! You guys love to hate!!! But guess what???” That “big mistake” he is referring to is the 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend, Rihanna . Related Videos Grammys 2012: Experts React! Whitney Houston: Her Five Greatest Soundtrack Contributions

Late singer/actress’ work in movies was inextricably linked to her music. By Kevin P. Sullivan Whitney Houston in “Bodyguard” Photo: Warner Bros. The late Whitney Houston may have only appeared in front of the camera in four feature films during her lifetime, but when a soundtrack featured the singer, best-selling albums and awards followed in her wake. Houston’s soundtrack contribution became synonymous with chart-topping albums, some among the best-selling of all time, so in her memory, we’re taking a look back at some of her most significant musical efforts in film and the records she broke in the process. “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” on the “13 Going on 30” Soundtrack Almost 20 years after its initial release, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” was re-released as part of the soundtrack for the 2004 Jennifer Garner film “13 Going on 30.” The album was made up mostly of the biggest hits of the late ’80s, including Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and Madonna’s “Crazy for You.” The soundtrack did not earn the awards or prestige of Houston’s other credits, but the song’s re-release brought it to a younger generation and reaffirmed its rightful place alongside the decade’s most influential singles. “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” from “Waiting to Exhale” Houston’s second starring role resulted in another big soundtrack hit. The lead single from the album, “Exhale (Shoop Shoop),” sold more than 1 million copies and went platinum. The song earned four nominations at the 1997 Grammy Awards , including Song of the Year, and walked away with Best R&B Song. Written by Babyface, “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” was just one of the many successful collaborations Houston would have with the famous producer. “The Preacher’s Wife” Soundtrack Houston’s last major film appearance before her death also brought about a record-breaking release for the artist. Houston performed all the songs on the soundtrack for “The Preacher’s Wife,” in which she starred opposite Academy Award winner Denzel Washington. The album itself went on to sell an estimated 6 million copies and became the best-selling gospel album of all time. “When You Believe” from “The Prince of Egypt” As one half of a duo that’s sure to go down in R&B history, Houston performed “When You Believe” off of the “Prince of Egypt” soundtrack with Mariah Carey. The song only found moderate success on the Billboard charts, but the biggest honor came Oscar night, when the writer of “When You Believe,” Stephen Schwartz, took home the Academy Award for Best Original Song in March 1999. Houston and Carey performed at the awards shortly before winning the honor. “The Bodyguard” Soundtrack Houston’s greatest musical contribution to film is also the album she’ll be most remembered for. The soundtrack for the 1992 film “The Bodyguard,” co-starring Kevin Costner, surpassed all expectations of motion-picture soundtracks up until that time and became one of the best-selling albums in history. Ranking fourth in sales, only behind Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and AC/DC’s Back in Black, the soundtrack to “The Bodyguard” also took home the Grammy for Album of the Year. The most recognizable song of Houston’s career, a cover of Dolly Parton’s song “I Will Always Love You,” was the first of three singles from the album to break the Billboard top 20. Houston was the first female artist to have three songs on the list at the same time. MTV News’ Sway and James Montgomery will be live from the Grammys red carpet tonight starting at 5 p.m. ET to get reactions from music’s biggest stars on the death of Whitney Houston. Watch reactions and remembrances at MTV.com. Share your condolences with Whitney’s family and friends on our Facebook page.
