Miley smoking a joint on stage was an attention slorin’ move, but is it worthy of a police investigation? Miley Cyrus’ Smoking Controversy Being Investigated Taxpayer dollars hard at work. According Agence France-Presse: Dutch authorities have launched an investigation into whether a smoking ban was violated after US pop star Miley Cyrus lit up what appeared to be a joint on stage during the MTV music awards in Amsterdam. “We received complaints about smoking which was also seen on television. We have to investigate,” Tjitte Mastenbroek of the National Food and Consumer Authority (NVWA) told AFP on Tuesday. “We will shortly be meeting the Ziggo Dome’s management to check what exactly happened there,” he said, referring to the venue. Publicity-seeking Cyrus, 20, lit up what appeared to be a sticky icky cigarette on stage during Sunday night’s MTV European Music Awards live show at the Ziggo Dome after accepting the Best Video award for her hit single “Wrecking Ball.” Cyrus took what seemed to be a half-smoked joint out of her Chanel bag and lit it up inside the venue which can hold up to 17,000 people. The incident was cut by MTV when it rebroadcast the show in the United States, preferring to show a wide-angle crowd shot. Although sticky icky is technically still illegal in the Netherlands, the country in 1976 decriminalised possession of less than five grammes (around a sixth of an ounce). Mastenbroek said the consumer watchdog was investigating why Cyrus lit up in a smoke-free area. “There is a smoking ban in public places in the Netherlands. Employees have the right to a smoke-free environment and this includes camera and sound personnel,” he said. “After meeting the Ziggo Dome’s management we will decide whether possible steps will be taken,” Mastenbroek added. Ziggo Dome spokesman Danni Damman said the venue had a strict non-smoking policy and security personnel would ask any smoker not in a designated area to put out a cigarette at once. Cyrus’ lighting up “caught us by surprise. It’s not easy to interfere in a moment like that,” he told AFP. He said the venue had not yet received word from the NVWA. “Once they have contacted us we’ll be able to say more,” he said.The MTV Europe Awards are held each year in a different European city and will be hosted next year in Glasgow, Scotland. Michael Douglas Lied About Having Throat Cancer A couple months ago Michael had everyone scratching their heads when he claimed to have gotten throat cancer from pleasuring the box then he later denied this. Now, dude is saying he never had it…he has the worst public relations team in history. According to US Weekly Michael Douglas has spoken candidly in the past about his 2010 battle with cancer. But it turns out that he wasn’t being completely honest about his diagnosis. In a new interview with pal Samuel L. Jackson for the U.K. talk show This Morning, the 69-year-old Oscar winner reveals that he actually had tongue cancer — not, as he previously claimed, throat cancer. Recalling the moment he knew something was terribly wrong, Douglas says, “[The doctor] just took a tongue depressor and — I will never forget it — I saw this look in his eye. And I went, ‘Oh.’ And they took a biopsy, and two days later, they said, ‘You have cancer.’” At the time, the Behind the Candelabra star was preparing to go to Europe to promote the movie Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. “You can’t cancel a worldwide European tour junket thing and say, ‘I don’t feel well.’ You gotta tell ‘em. So I said, ‘We just gotta come out [with the diagnosis],’” Douglas explains. His doctor agreed — but he advised the star to fudge the truth a little. “He said, ‘Let’s just say it’s throat cancer…We don’t want to say it’s tongue cancer,’” the actor tells Jackson. “I said, ‘Why is that?’ He said, ‘Well, if you really want to know why — if we do have to do surgery, it’s not going to be pretty. You’ll lose part of your jaw and your tongue, and all of that stuff.’” Worried he might never work again — or worse — the father of three did as his doctor said. He managed to avoid losing his tongue, but his appearance did change. “I looked pretty weird,” he recalls. “I lost a lot of weight.” These days, though, he’s proud to say he has a clean bill of health. He recently passed the two-year mark of being cancer-free — which is a big deal. “With my type of cancer, if you’re clean after two years, there’s a 95 percent chance it’s not coming back,” he tells Jackson. Douglas knows how lucky he is to be well, and he hopes other men will learn from his experience. “Hey guys, you look at your body every day. You know every mole, everything that’s there,” he advises. “You see something that looks a little strange, you feel a bump somewhere, check it out — please. I made the mistake. According to Mail Online A retired businessman who once enjoyed all the perks that came with his six figure salary job is being forced to make ends meet in his retirement by working two lowly paid part-time jobs. Former high flying marketing executive Tom Palome, 77, now fills his days making $10 an hour to demonstrate food at Sam’s Club and $8 an hour flipping burgers and serving drinks at a golf club in Tampa, Florida. ‘I earn in a week what I used to earn in an hour,’ Palome, who used to fly first class on business trips to Europe, told Bloomberg. While Palome worked hard his entire career, paid off his mortgage and put his kids through college, like most Americans he didn’t save enough for retirement. In addition, his savings more than halved to $40,000 after the financial crisis struck in 2008. In need of cash to maintain his lifestyle and with years if not decades of life ahead of him, Palome took the first job he could find – not easy to find for someone at his stage in life. Palome’s reduced circumstances are part of a much the larger trend in America in which workers from all wage brackets are being forced to stay on in the workforce as they both live longer and have fewer retirement savings to rely on. Damn. Rather than focus about what he used to have, Palome prefers to be optimistic about his situation. He is in good health, lives independently and he in gainful employment. ‘I tell people I demonstrate food and I do short-order cooking. I don’t mind saying it. What’s important is that I can work today,’ he told Bloomberg. Palome receives $1,200 from Social Security and a $600 a month pension from his last corporate job. Still, his $1,400 in monthly wages allows him to bolster his savings and provides for some extras. He goes to the theater, pays for plane tickets to visit his children and grandsons and takes occasional vacations. ‘I know seniors like me who hardly ever leave their homes because they don’t have money to do anything,’ Palome said. ‘They could work, but won’t take a lesser job.’ Two years ago, Palome saw an advertisement in a local paper for the AARP Senior Community Service Employment Program. He met with Maxine Haynes, the program’s Tampa project director, who helped him get an interview at Advantage Sales & Marketing LLC, which runs food demonstrations for Sam’s Club and other stores. To stretch his income, Palome runs his dishwasher once a week and turns off his hot water heater every morning after he showers. He buys airline tickets six months in advance, booking rental cars for as little as $13.80 a day. If Palome has one regret, it’s that he didn’t get better retirement investing advice somewhere along the line. “I thought I could do it on my own,’ he said. At least he can smile about it. Germany will allow babies born with no clear gender-determining anatomy to be put on the national birth register without a “male” or “female” classification. The “third gender option” takes effect November 1. Third Gender Option Offered in Germany A study by the German Ethics Council concluded that the rights of intersex individuals against irreversible medical interventions should be better protected. “If a child cannot be designated male or female, then they should be entered on the birth register without such a status,” the country’s new law states. At least 150 intersex babies are born in Germany each year up to 10,000 people have “serious variations” from physical gender-defining characteristics. A spokesman for the German Interior Ministry said: “A key aim of the new rule is to relieve parents of the pressure of having to decide a sex straight after the birth, and thereby agreeing overly hastily to medical procedures.” Support groups say the number of intersex individuals is far higher than estimated, and point out the difficulties and subtleties of defining intersexuality physically or hormonally. The interior ministry spokesman said the change did not amount to the “creation of a third gender” because the box stipulating male or female is left blank. Creating a third gender would complicate German laws on marriages and partnerships, which operate on a binary male-female opposition, analysts say. “This is an interesting move but it doesn’t go far enough,” said Silvan Agius of Equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people in Europe (ILGA). “Unnecessary surgeries will continue in Germany with devastating consequences… we live in a world where having a baby classified as ‘other’ is still considered undesirable.” Other campaigners for rights of intersex people raised concern that the “outing” of babies as intersex on official records could lead to discrimination in schools. The law, a first for Europe, is not unprecedented on a global scale. Australia has allowed citizens to note their gender on a passport as “X” since 2011.

My name is Harlee and I’m a 15 year old belieber from Stockholm, Sweden. I found out Justin was coming to Sweden last summer and I totally freaked out. Now when I think back I’m so happy to be able to write this and tell people that I actually met my biggest inspiration. I remember wondering if he was going to have a meet & greet when he got here and a hoped but I didn’t think I was going to be able to get one. I remember sitting home and my mom called her friend who happened to work at a ticket service in Sweden. The site she worked for had a pre sale so I got the best tickets (Golden Circle) one day before the official tickets were on sale. I was overjoyed when I got the tickets and I couldn’t believe it. Then about a month later the ticket site wrote that they were going to release M&G tickets and basically my whole country freaked out. Many people were queuing for tickets outside the ticket booth. One of them was my friend Michelle who got tickets. I was so happy for her but at the same time, I was breaking inside. Michelle promised me she would help me to get a ticket and I believe she really did. A couple of months before the concert, the ticket site once again announced they were releasing more M&G tickets. The same hour I found out about it my mom drove me to outside the ticket place were they was going to sell them the next day. There was like 5 girls in the que who arrived one hour before I did. Towards the evening my mom came with food, a sleeping bag, blankets etc. for me because we were going to sleep outside. The next day at about 12pm, the people who sold the tickets came out and told us we had to wait some more hours for the tickets. Finally I got my ticket and I cried so hard. Sooner than I expected, the big day arrived and I was so excited. Once again I was all by myself and lined up outside the backstage area. I showed my ticket, and got a wristband. While waiting for Justin, Dan came, and a dancer. The VIP host Ryan came and he was really funny. He told us that Justin was here and everyone freaked out. When we got in line to go into the little room with curtains, Justin came out on his segway, waved and said, “Hey, everybody!” before he rauhled into the tent again (see what I did there). It all went pretty fast from there and finally it was my turn. When I saw Justin in front of me I just wanted to cry, but I couldn’t. I looked up at him and said, “Justin, can you please smile?” and he looked into my eyes and smiled the biggest smile with this little giggle. It was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Then he placed one arm around me and placed me beside him. The photos were taken and he grabbed my hand quickly before I went outside. I still couldn’t cry. It was the best few seconds of my life. First I need to say like everyone else here, that I never ever thought in my whole life that I would be able to write my own Bieber Experience, but what I am doing now? I am writing my own MBE with a smile on my face! I have been a Belieber since 2009. My name is Veronica, I am 17 years old and I live in Denmark . Here is how it all started. When the Believe Tour dates for Europe came out, I screamed! “Copenhagen, Denmark,” I read. I decided to join BieberFever so I could get good tickets with my pre-sale code and I managed to get the best seats for my friend and I. This was finally my time to see my idol for the first time in my whole life. When the concert was coming closer I entered all the competitions to win a meet and greet, also the competition on BieberFever. My MBE happened on April 20th 2013 in Denmark, but first we need to turn back the time to April 19. Justin arrived to our country that day, so the Danish Beliebers were hyped. I was so excited. Me and 6 other girls found out which hotel Justin was staying at and we went there. When we arrived at the hotel, it was only us. All the other Beliebers were at a wrong hotel. We were quiet because we know how annoying it can be when people screamed loud, and especially for Justin. It was cold and windy that day. Two of the girls had to pee and asked a security from the hotel if they could borrow the hotel’s toilet. The security said yes and we saw the girls go into the hotel. Right after they came out, they smiled so big and said, “OMFG GIRLS, shh we need to be quiet, but listen.. Scooter Braun is in the building! He is in the lobby and he is sitting with his computer.” Holy shit, was this even real life? We couldn’t believe what we just heard. Suddenly a man walked out of the hotel. SCOOTER FUCKING BRAUN. The other girls and I ran to him and we all were like “Omg hi Scooter! Can we take a picture? How are you? You are so amazing!!” It was so crazy. He smiled and said, “Hurry up, guys! I have a flight to catch.” He took pictures with a lot of the other girls and was nice. I gave my phone to one of my friends and she took the picture. After he left, all of us girl hugged each other and we screamed so hard. He is the man who is the reason that Justin is a worldwide famous artist today! Then we were waiting for the train to pass and I looked at my phone and I was in shock. I opened my email and there was one new message. It was from BieberFever. We had won the contest to meet Justin! The next day around 4 p.m, we got in line for the M&G and went into a room. While we were waiting we saw Dan Kanter. Suddenly they start letting people in. The line was moving and I was getting closer and closer to Justin. People who had gotten their picture had to walk up at some stairs and I saw a lot of them crying. I looked at my friend and said “Omg, I can’t hold back my tears anymore!” She looked at me and said, “Veronica, please don’t! You don’t want to look like an idiot beside Justin, right?” and smiled. She was right. Now it was my turn. I went into the room and the first person I saw was Lil Za. He is so cute by the way. Then I looked to the left and I saw him. He was standing right there. My lifesaver. The person I have seen on pictures and videos and now he was in front of me in real life. Justin Drew Bieber. The time stopped for like 3 seconds. I looked at his face. He looked like a doll. A wax figure or something. I couldn’t believe my own eyes. He looked even better in real life. He doesn’t even look like he does in my M&G picture with him. Justin suddenly looked at ME. He smiled and he said “Heeeyy.” He indicated that I should come over on his right side and stand by him. He put his arms around me and I put my arms around his waist. I could feel his back. He was so soft. We looked into the camera and it went so quickly and suddenly we were out of the room. I started crying. I can finally say that I have met Justin. Justin Bieber. I have been waiting for this for so long. On April 20 I realized how much Justin means to me. I wanna thank Justin for everything. He has told me and the rest of this fan base to believe in our dreams, and he was right, because dreams do come true. Justin deserves way more respect from people. He is more than people think. He is the best idol you could ever ask for. Justin, if you are reading this right now, I just want to say, thank you so much for all the things you do. You have helped me so much through the hard times and to stay strong. I love you and I will always stand by his side no matter what. Thank you for everything.
