Sonja Morgan Aims to "Commercialize" Herself on The Real Housewives of New York City

Give Sonja Morgan points for honesty. When asked by Entertainment Weekly why she’s appearing on The Real Housewives of New York City (Morgan debuts tonight), the socialite replied: “I’m on the show to have a good time and commercialize myself… I’ve been writing my screenplay since the minute my divorce started. It’s very sexy, sort of like a Candace Bushnell society novel.” Somewhere in a meeting with her agent, ignoring her children Kate Gosselin is shaking her head and wondering why a single mother on a reality show isn’t using that platform to exploit her kids for sympathy, money and attention. But back to Morgan. What is her life experience? Will she mix it up with her co-stars? We’ve excerpted a few responses from her aforementioned magazine interview : What’s her resume? I’ve been working my whole life, started at 14 years old put myself through college, and then I was modeling in Europe, doing the restaurant business, and brokering deals. Then I got married, had a baby. Then I produced a movie, then I produced an art show and produced an art tour. I said, “You know, I think it’s time to highlight my career.” Will she catfight? It’s not my M.O. I love to gossip like anyone else but I definitely don’t want to hurt other people’s feelings. I don’t have a mean bone in my body. I can be very gossipy and fakey like any woman is, and I hope I can keep my composure around the ladies. What is she like? I don’t want to be clich

Iceland evacuates hundreds as volcano erupts again

The Associated Press: REYKJAVIK, Iceland — A volcano under a glacier in Iceland erupted Wednesday for the second time in less than a month, melting ice, spewing smoke and steam, closing a major road and forcing hundreds of people to flee rising floodwaters. Authorities evacuated 800 residents from around the Eyjafjallajokull glacier as rivers rose by up to 10 feet (3 meters). Emergency officials and scientists said the eruption under the ice cap was 10 to 20 times more powerful than one last month, and carried a much greater risk of widespread flooding. “This is a very much more violent eruption, because it's interacting with ice and water,” said Andy Russell, an expert in glacial flooding at the University of Newcastle in northern England. “It becomes much more explosive, instead of a nice lava flow oozing out of the ground.” Rognvaldur Olafsson, a chief inspector for the Icelandic Civil Protection Agency, said no lives or properties were in immediate danger. Scientists said there was no sign of increased activity at the much larger Katla volcano nearby. Iceland's Meteorological Office said a plume of steam rose at least five miles (eight kilometers) into the air. Scientists aboard a Coast Guard plane that flew over the volcano said the new fissure appeared to be up to 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) long. There were no immediate signs of large clouds of volcanic ash, which could disrupt air travel between Europe and North America. Some domestic flights were canceled, but Iceland's international airport remained open. The volcano, about 75 miles (120 kilometers) east of Reykjavik, erupted March 20 after almost 200 years of silence. The original eruption petered out earlier this week. But Gunnar Gudmundsson, a geophysicist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, said there were a series of tremors overnight, and rivers in the area began rising Wednesday morning — strong evidence of a new eruption under the glacier. Last month's eruption struck near the glacier in an area that had no ice. Gudmundsson said the new eruption appeared to be about eight or nine kilometers (five to six miles) west of the original fissure. “Most probably this eruption is taking place at the summit … under the ice,” he said. 30 Seconds To Mars Call Into The Wild Tour ‘A New Beginning’

‘It’s a massive celebration for us and our fans,’ Jared Leto says. By James Montgomery 30 Seconds to Mars Photo: EMI Music They just wrapped their first-ever run of arena shows in Europe, shot a combat-themed music video for “This Is War” and kicked off the U.S. leg of their Into the Wild tour . So why, with so much forward momentum, does Jared Leto consider everything 30 Seconds to Mars are doing to be a gigantic step back to square one? “I’ve said this before, but the most exciting thing about being in this band right now, is that it feels like the beginning again. Making this album, we rediscovered ourselves, and we emerged as something different,” Leto told MTV News. “We did the tour of Europe, which was a new beginning for us, and now, we’re touring America. And to have not toured here in three years, it’s a massive celebration for us and our fans. We feel like we’re beginning the journey again, here in this country.” The journey actually began on Friday in Las Vegas, when 30STM launched their Into the Wild trek at the Palms Casino Resort’s Pearl Theater. The tour will crisscross the country until mid-May, at which point the band will actually take about a month of before heading back to Europe for the summer fest circuit) — though, as Leto points out, they’re not taking a break willingly. “We’re just really excited, and we don’t want to stop,” he laughed. “This band is never exhausted. We’ve been able to play the songs on [ This Is War ] for audiences in Europe, and now we’re getting to play them for fans here. And right now, that’s what’s most exciting … to have people hear it and experience it.” And just what can fans expect on the U.S. leg of Into the Wild? Leto’s not saying. You’ve got to come out and see the show for yourself. “Like I said, it’s a celebration, it’s emotional, it’s a big, loud show,” he explained. “But, really, you’ve got to come out and see it. That’s the best way to put it.” Are you going to see 30 Seconds to Mars on tour this spring? What song are you looking forward to hearing live? Share your excitement below! U.S. Finally Catches Up With Guinea Bissau Drug "Kingpins"

This week the US accused two senior military men from Guinea Bissau of being major “drug kingpins.” Guinea Bissau is a major transit point for cocaine smuggled from Latin America to Europe. The idea that senior government leaders are involved in the country’s drug trade is nothing new. With chronic poverty, rampant corruption and loose borders, Guinea Bissau has proved to be a willing partner in flooding Europe with cocaine. For years, the tiny West African country has been plagued with bad government. In fact, when I produced “Cocaine Mafia” for Vanguard last year, I originally planned to shoot it in Guinea Bissau. However, shortly before we planned to leave last March, the army chief of staff, Gen. Batista Thagme Na Waie, was assassinated in an explosion. A few hours later, President Vieira was brutally hacked to death with machetes. While neither murder was ever solved, it is widely believed that both men were rivals for control of the country’s cocaine trade. Trafficking dropped in the aftermath, possibly because drug lords no longer knew who could guarantee their security, and we decided to focus our story on where the cocaine went from there as a result. We instead traveled to southern Italy, where African smugglers gain easy access to the European continent. When we reached the tiny town of Castel Volturno, one of the largest cocaine trafficking hubs in Europe, we felt as if we had stumbled into a slum that could just as easily be located in Guinea Bissau. Castel Volturno is a notoriously lawless town, overwhelmed with poor immigrants and controlled by the local mafia. I've reported from a lot of hot spots in the world, but Castel Volturno oozes with a special eeriness. We were searching for a drug trade that was practically invisible, but all the time we could feel the watchful eye of the Camorra, the local mafia, whenever we moved. People were often afraid to talk to us about cocaine or who was running the place, but we pursued every angle we could while our unseen targets watched us. Want to Know the Secret to Jake Gyllenhaal’s Bulbous Biceps?

The much awaited movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will soon be out in theaters around the world. It is an action-adventure fantasy film based on the 2003 video game. It will be released first in Europe which will have its premier on May 19, 2010 in France, Sweden and the Netherlands and in Germany on May 20. While in the United Kingdom it will be released on May 21 and on May 28 in the U.S. The movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan. Dastan is a street urchin in sixth-century. He paired-up with Princess Tamina to rescue the Sands of Time, which is a gift given by gods that controls time. Gyllenhaal got noticeably buff for his role as Prince Dastan. His secret in achieving the hulking build didn’t involve gym membership, but it has a lot to do with the French martial art of Parkour. Parkour is also known as freerunning. It is a physical role. Gyllenhaal is committed to it and gave his 110 percent. He worked with David Belle, the person who created Parkour. He also worked with a lot of gymnast. He started his work-out by jumping off a lot of things that were padded and learned the fundamental stuff. He then started slowly working on harder surfaces, and was really careful with his every move. He went a little further and a little longer and a little higher and he just kept it up. He did most of his stunts in the movie. Determination, perseverance and commitment are very important qualities that you must have in order to get what you want.
