Wikipedia experienced Global Outage

Wikipedia suddenly shut down at about 11:30 a.m. ET. And Wikipedia users couldn’t accessed the free encyclopedia online. This was because the servers of the said online encyclopedia in Europe had overheated causing the other servers to turned off to protect their data, according to Mark from Wikimedia. A post from Wikipedia found on facebook stating that: Due to an overheating problem in our European data center many of our servers turned off to protect themselves. As this impacted all Wikipedia and other projects access from European users, we were forced to move all user traffic to our Florida cluster, for which we have a standard quick failover procedure in place, that changes our DNS entries. However, shortly after we did this failover switch, it turned out that this failover mechanism was now broken, causing the DNS resolution of Wikimedia sites to stop working globally. This problem was quickly resolved, but unfortunately it may take up to an hour before access is restored for everyone, due to caching effects. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. Wikipedia users flooded the facebook page of Wikipedia with comments and suggestions and other reactions. The downtime of its server panicked the users for the website gives a reliable and updated information about almost everything. ‘Me & Bobby McGee’: The Story Behind Crystal Bowersox’s Cover

On ‘American Idol,’ Bowersox earned big praise for singing Janis Joplin’s posthumous hit. By Kyle Anderson Once again, one of the highlights of Tuesday night’s episode of “American Idol” — which was focused on songs that had hit No. 1 on the pop charts — was Crystal Bowersox’s performance. Armed with her trusty guitar and her disarming voice, the rocker sang “Me and Bobby McGee,” which reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971. There’s a bittersweet feeling within the lyrics of “Bobby,” as well as in the story surrounding it. The song was written by country legends Kris Kristofferson (who has had a string of hits himself) and Fred Foster (who produced much of Roy Orbison’s best work and helped introduce the world to Dolly Parton) and was recorded by “King of the Road” singer Roger Miller and Canadian folk king Gordon Lightfoot in 1969 and 1970, respectively. Both of those versions became hits, but neither was as big as the one recorded by Joplin, who was friends and occasional lovers with Kristofferson. The bluesy growler recorded the song without his knowledge for her solo album Pearl, which she cut with the Full Tilt Boogie Band. Pearl came out in February of 1971, four months after Joplin’s October 1970 death from a heroin overdose. “Me and Bobby McGee” was released as a commercial single and hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 during the week of March 20, 1971, making Joplin only the second person in history to top that chart posthumously. Though Joplin’s version remains definitive, “Me and Bobby McGee” has been covered by a number of artists, including country greats Kenny Rogers and Johnny Cash, rock icons the Grateful Dead and Melissa Etheridge, and pop idols Olivia Newton-John and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Pink’s version of the track appears on her “Live in Europe” DVD, and Tori Amos has broken it out in concert. Bowersox’s version marks the first time “Me and Bobby McGee” has appeared on “American Idol,” though songs performed by Joplin have popped up five times before. Nikki McKibbin, Carrie Underwood and Asia’h Epperson are among the “Idol” hopefuls who have performed “Piece of My Heart,” while Allison Iraheta knocked out Joplin’s “Cry Baby” last season. What did you think of Crystal Bowersox’s take on “Me and Bobby McGee”? How does it compare to Janis Joplin’s version? Let us know in the comments! Lady Gaga Announces 31 Arena Tour Dates In North America

Monster Ball’s second leg kicks off in Montreal on June 27 and continues through September. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage This June, Lady Gaga will be heading back to North America for a nearly three-month leg of her Monster Ball Tour. The pop princess, who just released her epic video for “Telephone,” will kick off this leg of her tour on June 28 in Montreal. Tickets go on sale beginning Friday (March 19). Gaga’s first arena tour, sponsored by Virgin Mobile, includes 31 shows throughout Canada and the U.S. through the summer, ending on September 19 in Raleigh, North Carolina. According to a press release, Gaga plans to make this leg of the tour “even more eye-popping” than the first. Last week, Gaga’s label, Interscope Records told MTV News that “there are talks about a 3-D concert and DVD in the near future.” Before Gaga returns to North America, she will play 10 dates in Europe, wrapping up on June 4 in Sheffield, U.K. Longtime pals and roadmates Semi Precious Weapons are opening for her. As for this next leg of the tour, promoter Live Nation’s global touring CEO Arthur Fogel said in a statement, “Lady Gaga has set out to revolutionize pop music and with her new production she continues to do exactly that. We’re thrilled to take the Monster Ball to fans around the world.” Tour dates for Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball, according to Live Nation:

Mmm… Penelope Cruz Bites Her Lip!

Here’s Penelope Cruz looking all hot and bothered at some photocall for the movie Nine the other day. She’s saucy, I love her. Look at the way she bites her lip, like she just thought back to the experimenting she did with a sorority sister while traveling through Europe one summer during her college years. I wish I could go back in time and be a fly on that wall. Can flies get boners? Cause this fly certainly would. Enjoy. more pictures of Penelope Cruz here

Lindsay Lohan’s Sweet Leather Tights

Lindsay Lohan is still in Europe doing what the Europeans do best, wearing leather pants and looking bitchy. Here she is out it France somewhere prancing around town in her tight little leather leggings and jacket looking like she owns the place. Who’s paying for this trip? She’s been there for like a month, she has no money coming in, something’s up. I bet there’s a rich old dude somewhere pulling the strings. Bastard.

Lady Gaga Planning Ambitious 3-D Concert, DVD

‘There are talks about a 3-D concert and DVD in the near future,’ rep for Gaga tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images Lady Gaga is currently in the midst of the Australian leg of her massive Monster Ball tour — with scheduled stops in Japan and Europe — and, as you probably know by now, she’s also putting the finishing touches on the much-anticipated “Telephone” video , too. But neither of those things are standing in the way of yet another ambitious endeavor, a planned 3-D concert and subsequent DVD. On Monday (March 8), MTV News spoke to a rep for her label, Interscope Records, who told us that “there are talks about a 3-D concert and DVD in the near future.” No other information — including just how a 3-D concert would manifest — was available at press time. Late last week, Gaga fansites began speculating about plans for a 3-D DVD (link http://gagadaily.com/2010/03/the-monster-ball-dvd-coming-soon/), but this is the first time a concert has been mentioned. In December, Gaga released a deluxe edition of her Fame Monster album, which included a pair of 3-D glasses that she mysteriously explained would come in handy “for things happening soon .” In the mean time, her Little Monsters are gearing up for the debut of the “Telephone” video — the follow-up to her striking “Bad Romance” clip — which, after weeks of teasing from Gaga herself and some last-minute editing is scheduled to premiere Thursday at 11:30 p.m. ET on E! News. Related Artists Lady Gaga

Lindsay Lohan’s Cleavage Returns

Lindsay Lohan is off in Europe somewhere completely ignoring the Academy Awards because, let’s be honest, she has no business being anywhere near an award ceremony. Unless of course that ceremony is to celebrate the last year’s achievements in cleavage. Here she is showing off her potentially award winning rack in what looks to be some poor girl’s prom dress. Obviously I don’t care one way or another where she’s going or what she’s doing, but cleavage is cleavage and I’m all over it. I want to touch it… With my mouth. Enjoy.

Paramore’s Hayley Williams Talks Josh Farro’s Wedding Plans

‘It’ll be kind of surreal and awesome to see one of my friends take that step,’ she says. By James Montgomery, with additional reporting by Anya Zadrozny Paramore Photo: Lester Cohen/ Getty Images Back in early February, Paramore guitarist Josh Farro surprised fans — and broke more than a few hearts — when he announced he was engaged and that he would be sitting out the band’s tour of the Pacific Rim to concentrate on all the things recently betrothed men tend to do in situations like this (read: meet with wedding planners, pretend to be interested in chair covers and table linens, etc.). In Farro’s absence, the band recruited guitarist Taylor York’s brother, Justin, and have pressed on with the tour. But they’re still missing their musical mate — and they sort of wish they could be back at home with him while he plans for his big day. “He’s the first person to get married out of the band, obviously, and out of a lot of our friends, so not only is it a big deal, I don’t think he wanted to leave and be trying to deal with it when he’s never had an experience with that sort of thing,” Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams told MTV Radio earlier this week. “He’s doing all the planning and all the work [involved] with it. … We’re all really psyched for him.” Paramore will return to the U.S. next week, and they’ll kick off a spring tour April 26. One would assume Farro would be back in the fold at that point (an e-mail sent to the band’s label — Atlantic/ Fueled By Ramen — for clarification was not responded to by press time), because it sounds very much like he’s going to be getting married in the time between tours. “We’re going to go home and, I think, five days after we get home from a little promo run in Europe, we’re all going to go to the wedding,” Williams said. “I’ve only had one best friend ever get married, and I was actually a bridesmaid, which is sort of bittersweet, I guess. But this should be really, really fun, because Josh has been one of my best friends since I was 12 or 13, and it’ll be kind of surreal and awesome to see one of my friends take that step. We can’t wait.” Related Artists Paramore

The Complete Guide to Winning Your Oscar Pool [Little Gold Men]

Hollywood’s big gay Olympics are approaching, and the annoying “film buff” in your office is probably pestering you to enter his Oscar pool, which he’s convinced he’s going to win. We want you to beat the little nerd. Here’s how! Well, ha, OK. So all of this guessing. You cannot hold us to any of these GUESSES. Enter Randy’s stupid pool at your own peril! These are but one blog’s mere opinions. All liability is waived or whatever. In case you want to disagree with us, full list of nominees is here . Sound Mixing No one, not even sound mixers, know what this category is. It has something to do with how that one thing sounded in relation to that other thing. Usually a big special FX movie wins this shit, so let’s say… Avatar Sound Editing The fuck? There’s another one? Yes, we all make Sound jokes every Oscar season, like clockwork. And then we make them again because there are two Sound categories. This one is about piecing sound together or something. Because of all the big booms, let’s say The Hurt Locker takes it. Visual Effects Bryan Brown’s favorite category, these are for all the magic CGI things that movie wizard-nerds are always cooking up in their Sun Chips-scented lairs. There’s no way Avatar won’t win this thing, right? Short Film, Live Action The Culture Vulture blog over at New York magazine did a kindly write-up about the shorts this year, and they think somethin’ name’a Instead of Abracadabra is going to take this beautiful prize. We think it’s going to be The Door , because that is about Chernobyl and that is sad and what Academy voter doesn’t like sad? Short Film, Animation The Vulture kids say it’s A Matter of Loaf and Death , because Adam Moss really likes puns. And we agree. Mostly because of its Wallace & Gromit pedigree. Makeup The nominees for this are weird. An Italian movie about Italian politics. Star Trek , a nerd fantasia about lens flares. And The Young Victoria , that movie that Diane the HR assistant saw and wouldn’t shut up about for a week because it made her feel really artsy and British and different . Well, I hate to tell you this, but Diane is right. We think The Young Victoria will get this, mostly because Emily Blunt wasn’t nominated and this is how the Oscars say they’re sorry. Documentary, Short Jesus on a Thursday, who the hell knows. Because it sounds sad and topical, let’s say The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant . Documentary, Longer & Boringer There are a few high-profile docs here — The Cove (about dolphin-killing Japaneseses and their sworn mortal enemy, Hayden Panettiere), Food, Inc (about why you are fat and/or dead), The Most Dangerous Man in America (about how America lied to you) — so it’s a tough race. But because everyone likes to eat, let’s go with Food, Inc. . It was good! Yes it was, Foer. You shut up. Original Score Why Marvin Hamlisch wasn’t nominated for his didn’t-know-he-was-making-fun-of-himself tunes for The Informant! is beyond us. But he wasn’t, so we must press on. We like Michael Giacchino ‘s Up score for this category. He won the Golden Globe and he makes such scary trombone music for Lost . So he deserves it. Original Song Well, Disney will basically hurl itself off the top of Big Thunder Mountain if something from The Frog Princess doesn’t win. Which is sad, because we like Disney sort of, and they will soon be dead splat down on the asphalt, sending park guests running and screaming but still clutching their Meat-On-a-Sticks. Because “The Weary Kind” from Crazy Heart is totally taking this one. Costume Design In our eyes, this is between two films. The equally well-liked but awards-ignored period pieces Bright Star and The Young Victoria . Because Bright Star was about stupid dying writers and not about the royal court, its costumes weren’t quite as grand. So let’s go with The Young Victoria on this one. But don’t be surprised if it’s Bright Star . Or any of the others. We really have no idea what the hell we’re doing. Cinematography Roger Deakins should win this category every year, because he is a genius. But he’s not even nominated! So let’s see. We loved the camerawork in Inglourious Basterds , but Avatar will probably sew this up for its epic computer-generated sweep. Art Direction Oh we’re just tossing out guesses left and right here. This award is for what movie looked the prettiest. Victoria looked pretty. So did Nine . The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus certainly was interesting to gaze at. Shit. Let’s go Victoria , again. Who knows! Editing This is the award for how the film is strung together. Didja like that cut? Then you liked the editing! We think The Hurt Locker will snag this for its deft tension ratcheting. Cartoon Because kids love the Oscars, they’ve put this category in the mix for the past coupla years. This is absolutely Up ‘s to lose. Foreign Weirdo French Thing Oohh where’s mah wiiiine. I needz mah wiiiiiine to make le cinemaaaa. A buncha sissies from Europe or whatever made some queer little movies and then the Americans give ’em an award for it? Only in this new Apology Tour America, ladies and germs. Michael Haneke’s somber The White Ribbon probably has this one in the fancyboy handbag. Screenplay, Adapted Though it was nice that quirky small things like In the Loop got recognized in this category, there’s only ever been one possible winner. That’d be Jason Reitman & Sheldon Turner ‘s script for Up in the Air . Screenplay, Original It’d be nice to see Quentin walk away with this one, but we fear he won’t. The Golden Globe went to the boys from Up , and we think they’ll repeat at the big dance. Su’pporting Ac’tress If you have to ask this, you are either dumb or don’t care about movie awards season (which makes you dumb by default). Hope you wear a nice dress, Mo’Nique Supporting Actor Hope you wear an even nicer dress, Christoph Waltz . Actress Ohhh a corker. Well, something of a corker. Will Merlin Streep take it for her magical work in Julie & Julia ? Or will Sandra Bullock please all of Popcorn America with a win for That Darn Negro ? While Bullock is riding a wave of awards momentum following wins at the Globes and the SAGs, it’s still hard to imagine that stuffy Academy voters will throw their vote behind that charming, horse-tailed comedienne . It’s been years since Streep has won, and she did get the Globe for comedy actress… You know what? We’re probably wrong, but we’re gonna say Streep takes it by a nose. Actually no. Bullock takes it. No, Streep. BULLOCK . Blargh. Actor For a very, very short time, it looked like it might be Colin Firth’s year. But that was monnnnths and many awards shows ago, and now it’s all about one DUDE . Jeffriah Bridges , come on down. Director Ohhh snap! Will it be big scary Ego Hurricane James Cameron or his scorned and bitter and lonely and old ex-wife, a known woman, Kathryn Bigelow ? Everyone hated Cameron’s speech the last time he won Hollywood’s most coveted dildo, so we say Kathy Bigs gets the gold. Picture There were ten nominees this year! Isn’t that crazytime? Well, no, actually. There really were only five nominees, the ones also nominated for Best Director, and now there are only three possible winners. The Hurt Locker has been a favorite, but it may have suffered due to a swirl of controversy that recently appeared, doom-like, over Los Angeles. There’s also Avatar , which… ugh. It can’t win, can it? And our favorite, Inglourious Basterds . What a fine, fun film that was. That opening scene! But… We think the Oort cloud of bad press didn’t come in time and that The Hurt Locker will still explode into Oscar history as the second Best Picture in which Ralph Fiennes dies. So that’s that! We’re probably entirely wrong. Or entirely right. That’s the fun of the Oscars, and all unpredictable things in life. As far as any certainty goes, we’ll just say this: If Mo’Nique doesn’t win, we’ll eat our h’ats.

Jay Electronica Praises Soulja Boy, Reveals Project With Nas

‘You can expect multiple projects this year,’ MC tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Rahman Dukes Jay Electronica The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive The reception Jay Electronica has been getting from fans during his U.K. tour has been just as enthusiastic as his feedback Stateside. Fans and critics still love “Exhibit C” and some of Jay’s other underground gems. People are clamoring for the street CD Act II and the official LP Act III, and Jay said he’s going to deliver both of those projects and more this year. “It’s still Act II. Act III, the official album, which ‘Exhibit A’ and ‘Exhibit C’ are a part of [as well as] ‘Dear Moleskin,’ ” Jay said in Europe earlier this week. “Me and Mos [Def] have a project that we’re doing, me and Guilty Simpson have a project that we’re doing. I would like to do a project with Lupe — [Fiasco] we’re going to do a project at some point. Me and Nas have a project that we’re doing . I’m just trying. I’m in the process of working and connecting. I don’t really feel like a song or an album is the end-all, be-all to what we’re doing. “You can expect my album this year,” he added. “You can expect multiple projects this year. We’re going to do a lot this year.” Electronica is focused on responsibilities outside of rap, including raising a baby daughter with singer Erykah Badu. “Dealing with a lot personally, that not necessarily takes me away from my music, because it comes through in my music as well. But as a person trying to grow and figure out how to handle things, learn and be a man — all that’s a part of the process too. It’s hard to put a release date on those type of things when you’re factoring those things in.” The New Orleans native said that “Exhibit A” producer Just Blaze will produce 65 percent of his solo debut. Jay’s commanding mic presence and wordplay have captured the ears of many, and he said he has no choice but to come with sustaining lyrics like “I make the devil hit his knees and say, ‘To our father’ ” — he’s a product of his golden-era-of-rap influences. “The lyricism in my music — I come from a different era,” he explained. “I was born in ’76. I was raised in the ’80s. I’m an ’80s baby. LL Cool J was the first person that inspired me to rhyme. I have a lot of bragging in my rhymes. LL was my first enlightenment. If you would have asked me this two years ago, I would have said lyricism was lacking. Like somebody would say Soulja Boy … you would say he’s not a lyricist, right? If you took a poll and said, ‘Is Soulja Boy a lyricist?’ People would say no, right? But it’s not the words, it’s energy of what he does that’s the lyrics. It’s not the lyrics — the energy of it is the connector. The energy of it is greater than the words of it. In a sense, lyrics has been lacking in the contest of grammar and vocabulary, but the spirit and energy of it is never gone — or else the complete genre of hip-hop is gone.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .
