Willow Smith’s ’21st Century Girl’ Video Premieres

Video features the star singing girl-power song in the desert and the city. By Jocelyn Vena Willow Smith Photo: Getty Images An old woman (played by Cicely Tyson) walks in the desert, mumbling to herself when she comes across bone fragments. As she digs her way through the sand, she finds various objects. The sand begins to rumble and out comes a hooded Willow Smith. The woman whispers something in her ear and disappears. Taking a look around, Willow grabs some dirt and a butterfly emerges out of nothing. Thus begins the video for “21st Century Girl.” Looking fierce in a red and yellow outfit, Smith shows some swagga as she runs through the desert, singing the girl-power song, pulling guitars from the sand with wolves and other precocious kids at her side. Her crew pulls remnants from the 21st century out of the sand. Among the bikes and skateboards is a metropolis, complete with skyscrapers that grow from the dry land. In this cityscape, Willow dons new threads: leopard tights, yellow shorts and a sassy T-shirt that reads, “Boys need training.” She and her pals dance around the city. Then Willow is seen whispering to a baby girl, who too can form a butterfly from sand, passing some sort of baton to the next generation of soothsayer types and leaving viewers wondering what power it is that these 21st-century girls possess. The clip hit the Internet over the weekend; it was directed by Rich Lee (Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Pussycat Dolls). The video was shot over two days in January. “21st Century Girl” hit radio last week and will be featured on Smith’s forthcoming debut album. She’s currently on the road with Justin Bieber, opening for the star on his European tour. What do you think of Willow’s new video? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Willow Smith

Justin Bieber Reveals Birthday Plans, Talks Haircut

‘I’m just going to relax,’ singer says of his plans. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber eating cheesecake Photo: Getty Images Justin Bieber turns 17 on March 1, and he’s revealing what his plans are for the big day. “I only have, like, four days, so I’m just going to relax, because I start my world tour starting on [March 4] — so just going to mentally prepare and just relax,” Justin told “Entertainment Tonight.” “No birthday bash. … Hopefully my grandparents will be out here and I’ll be able to spend time, a little bit, with them. My grandma makes the best cheesecake — cherry cheesecake. She made that for my 13th birthday.” Of course, Bieber’s birthday isn’t the only thing making headlines these days. His new haircut has also been causing quite the hoopla, but Bieber seems to be brushing it off. “I just wanted to [cut my hair], that’s all. Not really a big reason; I just woke up and said, ‘I don’t want this anymore,’ so I just cut it,” he said. “It’s not really about that. You know, the fans really liked it, but they’ll like me no matter what, because I think it’s about the music. I’m really excited to see what the fans overseas think and take it day by day.” Bieber will re-release his 3-D flick “Never Say Never” this weekend. “It’s 40 minutes of extra footage, so it’s basically like a new movie,” he says. “It’s real exciting, because it shows me and my friends more and it shows a different part of the concert, so it’s going to be great. Hopefully all the fans will go back and watch it.” Next week, in addition to his birthday, Bieber will also kick off his European tour . “I’m excited to see what [Willow Smith] brings to the table,” he said. “We start on March 4, so she’s really excited, and she told me that she can’t wait — and she’s adorable — so I can’t wait. “I have such great people around me and such good family,” he added. “I just want to be a good role model to people, and to be able to just make good music. … I’m going to make mistakes, but it’s about learning from them and becoming better. … My movie shows that anything is possible and dreams do come true. … Remember to always stay humble and always be gracious and anything can happen.” What do you think about Bieber’s new ‘do? UK Court Sides With Newspaper In Their Lawsuit Against Crazy Azz Naomi Campbell

Looks like people are more than a little tired of Naomi and her bullsh*t, time to pay the piper b*tch! The European Court of Human Rights on Tuesday ruled in favor of a British newspaper that was ordered to pay “disproportionate” legal fees when it lost a privacy case brought by model Naomi Campbell. The Strasbourg-based European Court of Human Rights found that the more than £1 million ($1.6 million) that British courts ordered the Daily Mirror newspaper’s publishers to pay was a violation of its right to freedom of expression. The paper’s publisher, MGN Limited, was ordered to pay the fees after a British court found that the newspaper had violated Campbell’s right to privacy by publishing photographs of her outside a drug rehabilitation clinic. One of the newspaper’s articles was headlined: “Naomi: I am a drug addict.” The publishers were ordered to pay £3,500 in damages and also Campbell’s legal fees, including a so-called “success fee” which forces the losing side of a case to pay the other side’s legal costs. The European court ruled that the newspaper had indeed violated her privacy but that the “success fee” system should not apply to Campbell because she could afford to pay legal costs herself. “Campbell had been wealthy and therefore not someone who risked not having access to court on financial grounds and for whom the ‘success fees’ scheme had been initially set up,” the court said. The requirement for the newspaper to pay the fee was therefore “disproportionate to the aim sought to be achieved by the introduction of the ‘success fee’ system,” the court said. We don’t know about ya’ll but we’re glad that the court decided to stick it to the over-dramatic, fade catching, diva. You’re 40 years old lady, get your sh*t together! Source

Taylor Swift’s ‘Back To December’ Video Director Explains Clip

‘I wanted [Taylor] to perform a very natural way, to make her look very European,’ says Yoann Lemoine. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift in “Back to December” Photo: Big Machine Records In her video for “Back to December,” Taylor Swift finds herself and her home covered in snow while she contemplates the best way to apologize to her former beau, played by model Guntars Asmanis , for breaking his heart. Director Yoann Lemoine tells MTV News that he had a certain aesthetic he wanted to capture for the chilly clip, which was shot partly in Nashville (for Swift’s scenes) and Upstate New York (for Asmanis’ scenes) in December. “I wanted the video to be very simple and metaphorical at the same time,” the Frenchman explained. “I wanted to work on the coldness of feelings in a very visual way, playing with the snow, the distance and sadness. [Taylor] really liked it. The winter theme was very interesting to me — the snow, the ice. I even wanted the guy to go swim in frozen lakes at some point. It was not possible, but I wanted to translate how you feel sometime when your heart is broken. The snow in the apartment is supposed to show how connected she is to him. He is outside, in the cold, but somehow she is connected to him.” Swift pretty much let Lemoine have control over the clip’s look and feel, although it was her idea to have her character leave the letter for her beloved. As for Swift’s look in the video, Lemoine says he was focused on making sure that it all felt real and that she came off as accessible. “I have been going through a lot of videos and pictures of her on the Internet trying to find the best angle and style for her. I wanted people to feel like they would get to know her very intimately, and really trust in what she was saying,” he explained. “I wanted her to perform a very natural way, to make her look very European. This was the main challenge to me. All of Taylor’s world is very far away from my culture, but I saw something in her that could be very rough and heartbreaking; far from the princess glittery outfits and glam that she often goes for.” As for Asmanis, the duo agreed that he was the perfect fit for the part. “I wanted a boy that was fragile and beautiful. I didn’t want to go for a hunk or a perfect cheesy boy that would have killed the sincerity of the video,” Lemoine said. “I just imagined a face that would enhance the fragility of the video. We did cast a couple of boys and both Taylor and I loved Guntars.” Related Artists Taylor Swift
