What’s On: Modern Family’s Portrait

Claire Dunphy’s got work ahead of her on tonight’s Modern Family finale. Can she pull off the ultimate act of familial cooperation without breaking Phil’s precious iPad over his Butch Patrick haircut? And will she tackle Gloria to the ground if Crystal Bowersox goes home ahead of Casey James or Lee DeWyze on tonight’s American Idol ? Sanity has plenty of opportunities to break free from its toddler leash this evening.

Kate Beckinsale Teases Us With Her Sexiness

I’m just assuming these pictures of Kate Beckinsale are from the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival , I couldn’t be bothered to find out because I would rather spend my time staring at her sexy leg peeking out of her evening gown. What a tease. This woman is just gorgeous, there are no two ways about it. Notice how I didn’t call her a girl or a chick? That’s because she’s far too classy to be referred to like that, she’s all woman and I want to treat her with the respect she deserves. Did I mention I want to make sweet hump to her? I blew it.

Mauritania: Obesity Is A Sign A Husband Cares For His Wife

Fat loss, weight reduction, diet regimen and pills have flooded the internet to help people win their battle against obesity. But in Mauritania, this isn’t a problem at all. Obesity is so revered in their country wherein young girls are being force-fed by parents or even sent-out to fat-farms to become fat and beautiful. Fat is considered as a sign of wealth and being thin is considered a sign of poverty and would not be respected. According to Fatematou, rotund woman in her sixties who runs a kind of “fat farm” in the northern desert town of Atar said: “I make them eat lots of dates, lots and lots of couscous and other fattening food. I make them eat and eat and eat. And then drink lots and lots of water. I make them do this all morning. Then they have a rest. In the afternoon we start again. We do this three times a day – the morning, the afternoon and the evening.” Girls in the fat farm could end up  weighing between 60 to 100 kilograms, “with lots of layers of fat.” “When they are small they don’t understand, but when they grow up they are fat and beautiful,” she said. “They are proud and show off their good size to make men dribble. Don’t you think that’s good?” Obesity is seen as a sign a husband cares for his wife. Mauritania: Obesity Is A Sign A Husband Cares For His Wife is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Idol Castoff Alex Lambert Helps Fuel Anti-Bowersox Trend

Last night’s Young Hollywood Awards put a spotlight on several glamorous vampires, including the Twilight pixies and the cast of The Vampire Diaries , but the most sinister quote of the evening came from a kid who’s not known for being a bloodsucker. Alex Lambert (who capitalized on his regrettably early American Idol elimination by moving into Simon Fuller’s If I Can Dream web series house) seized the opportunity to cast shade on Crystal Bowersox, who seems to be losing her once-massive edge on Lee DeWyze. Lambert must’ve left his diplomacy in his other mullet.

Justin Bieber on Miley Cyrus: Just Hanging Out

Earlier this week, the tween world went into a tizzy when Justin Bieber was spotted at dinner with Miley Cyrus. The latter claims the pair is just wrking on a “side project,” but is this code? Should Liam Hemsworth be worried? No and no, Bieber says. On today’s Ellen DeGeneres Show, the young heartthrob referred to the evening and said he and Cyrus are “Just hanging out! If you look on the Internet, you’ll see other girls that I hang out with.” Hmmm… that’s not a total denial, is it? Bieber added that he’s “not really” dating anyone, a slight tease that is also likely to get the Twitter world all flustered. No way he’s hinting at something with Kim Kardashian , is he?!? As for the other topic fans care about, Justin addressed his hair. He said: “I blow dry it and then it’s done in, like, five minutes… I’m kinda liking the long hair right now. In the future, I may get bored and change it up, but for now, I like how it is.” Whoa, stop the presses! Can you imagine Bieber with long hair? Ponder that possibility as you also check out Justin’s Oprah interview this week. The guy is everywhere.

‘American Idol’ Report Card: Who Was A Star On Movie Night?

Crystal earns an Excellent grade for her ‘Caddyshack’ cover; Big Mike’s ‘Free Willy’ fails. By Eric Ditzian Crystal Bowersox performs on “American Idol” Tuesday Photo: FOX The numbers in our “American Idol” classroom are dwindling, and that’s forcing producers to get creative. Thus Tuesday night’s Songs of Cinema theme introduced a dose of group work into the live show, as the top four contestants sang a couple of duets in addition to their familiar individual efforts. The ensembles proved to be the night’s saving grace. Before we dole out the grades, we’ve got an extra credit question for the “Idol” conspiracy theorists among you: What was the thinking behind pairing Crystal Bowersox with Lee Dewyze and Michael Lynche with Casey James? Hmmmm. And how about a bonus extra-credit question: What does it mean that for three out of the four contestants, their duets were far superior to their solo performances? In any event, “American Idol” is a competition for individuals, and the singers must be graded on this basic fact: How did each one fair? That’s exactly what we plan do as we push forward with another edition of our “American Idol” report card. (And don’t miss Jim Cantiello’s recap of their performances in the MTV Newsroom.) Excellent Crystal Bowersox : Her blown-glass mic stand was back, and so was MamaSox! After two straight weeks of adequate, if not revelatory, performances, the 24-year-old stormed back with a truly unlikely performance. A song from freakin’ “Caddyshack” ? Really? And yet, the country-rock makeover she gave Kenny Loggins’ “I’m Alright” simply worked. By now we hardly have to mention that her vocals were on point; they’re always on point. And then her duet with Dewyze (“Falling Slowly” from “Once”) showed off such easy chemistry, such likability, we’d say she might just have locked up the competition. But we already knew that, right? Good Casey James : Casey probably should have known better, picking “Mrs. Robinson” after his entire story arc this season has boiled down to a cougar-rific connection to Kara DioGuardi. Wise or not, the song — with its mandolin-driven bluegrass feel — was a pleasing choice that stayed well within James’ vocal abilities. Was it a bit lazy, as Simon Cowell suggested? Perhaps. But we’d take a few more weeks of “Mrs. Robinson”-esque ditties rather than James back in his bar-band rocker mode. Meanwhile, his duet with Big Mike of Bryan Adams’ “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?” was an even stronger performance. It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens between these two singers come elimination time. Satisfactory Lee Dewyze : We’ve known for a long time now that Dewyze suffers from persistent pitch problems. Have those deficiencies ever been on display as glaringly as they were during Seal’s “Kiss From a Rose”? As the judges pointed out, that tune is a crazily difficult one to pull off, and Dewyze simply wasn’t up to the challenge. He did little to change up the tune, and while we wouldn’t go so far as to label the performance “karaoke” — as Cowell did — we will say that it was a colossal disappointment from a singer who’s supposed to be giving Bowersox a run for the “Idol” crown. Luckily for him, he was paired with MamaSox for his duet, and he rode her dreadlocks to the highest praise of the evening. Unsatisfactory Michael Lynche : Big Mike gives us our toughest call of the night. Was he merely OK during Michael Jackson’s “Will You Be There,” or truly subpar? We enjoyed the gospel choir backing him up, but there’s no getting away from the roller-coaster path of his vocals from beginning to end. But in the end, Big Mike ends up at the bottom of our grading curve for making the worst song choice of the evening. Even Ellen DeGeneres couldn’t help but mock the selection, calling “Free Willy” “one of the classic, great movies of all time.” If you believe that one, you might also believe that Big Mike has a shot at winning “Idol” season nine. How would you grade the contestants’ movie-night performances? Post your report cards in the comments. Regina Spektor Tells Musical Stories At Sold-Out Sydney Opera House

‘It’s so amazing not to play by yourself,’ she told her devoted Australian fans. By Matt Elias Regina Spektor (file) Photo: Jeff Gentner/Getty Images SYDNEY, Australia — The warm night in Sydney was the perfect backdrop for the sun-drenched tunes from Regina Spektor’s most recent effort, Far. The cathedral-like Sydney Opera House only added to the ambience. The Brooklyn songstress took the stage Wednesday night (April 28), greeting the mostly female sold-out crowd, which rejoiced at the first notes of “Calculation” (the opening track on Far ). Although the singer/songwriter was far from home, the audience proved to be more than familiar with her material. Fans shouted requests and “I love yous” between songs but were silent whenever Spektor, on piano, marched through a track. The set continued with more selections from her 2009 album, including “Eet” and a peppier version of “Folding Chair.” By the third song, the crowd had grown giddy, waiting for Spektor to address them directly. During a quiet moment, spontaneous giggling erupted and seemed to spread. Regina responded: “I feel like I have some lipstick on my nose.” The singer reached back into her catalog for “Ode to Divorce,” an oldie that highlighted the concert hall’s brilliant acoustics. Spektor’s voice sounded so close, it was as if you were sitting beside her on the piano bench. She followed that up with the frantic “Machine” and “Laughing With,” which drew extra cheers. The remainder of the evening was peppered with crowd favorites and a back-and-forth with the audience. After the crowd clapped along to “Better,” a fan begged, “Tell us a story, Regina!” That drew a clever response from Spektor: “I am. I’m telling stories all night long!” While she spent most of the night at the keys, Regina finally got up for “Dance Anthem of the 80s” (also from Far ), strapping on a guitar as she recalled “The Simpsons” episode where Homer goes to rock-and-roll summer camp. As the nearly two-hour show drew to a close, Regina told the crowd, “It’s so amazing to play here, and it’s so amazing not to play by yourself,” referring to the devoted fans who came to see her. In case anyone wasn’t sufficiently impressed, Spektor returned for a five-song encore. Fans showed they had her back, filling in when Regina forgot a few of the lyrics to “Samson.” That exchange brought to mind the words from “Eet,” sung earlier in the evening: “It’s like forgetting the words to your favorite song/ You can’t believe it, you were always singing along.” What do you think of Regina’s most recent album, Far ? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Regina Spektor
