We’ve already heard that Lisa Vanderpump is ghosting the entire cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills . Now, Lisa Rinna is throwing shade at her castmate on social media. She’s poking fun at her her status as an absentee Housewife. “Listen,” Lisa Rinna said to her Twitter followers on Wednesday. “What we do, is not that hard.” Being on a reality series can be a lot of work, but if you’re part of an ensemble, it makes life easier. Those huge Real Housewives salaries don’t hurt, either. “We film for 4 months,” she explains. “We laugh, fight, we make up, whatever.” “We make a tv show,” she notes. It’s good that she mentions that. Some people still forget that reality television is rarely authentic. It’s entertainment. “We are so blessed and so lucky to have a Job,” Lisa continues. It’s good to see people who have been incredibly lucky in life acknowledge that. “For those who watch,” Lisa writes. “Thank you!” “I felt like that needed to be said,” she explains. “We aren’t curing cancer here. It’s a f–king tv show. Ya know?!” “And,” Lisa concludes. “I think we all make a darn good tv show.” Lisa Rinna then held an impromptu Q & A with her fans and followers. One asked where Lisa Vanderpump might be, saying: “Can’t get enough of her.” (Not all fans and followers keep up with news or know how to read the room, people) Lisa quoted the tweet and issued a cutting reply. “She’s on Vanderpump Rules ,” Lisa says. Oof. That, folks, is what we call shade . It’s not a read — she is in no way explicitly insulting her castmate. It’s shade because her innocuous, truthful statement has a bite to it. Everyone is being very vague about the source of the contentiousness, but they all seem to agree that it exists. Lisa Vanderpump has had a difficult year, notably with the death of her brother. But her castmates believe that this alone is not enough to explain or justify the way in which she has backed away from them. Whether it’s personal events or filming, a rift has formed among the Housewives. Though Lisa has shot down rumors that she has left the series to focus on Vanderpump Rules , fans are scratching their heads. Hopefully, it will eventually become clear why Lisa seems to be keeping her distance from everyone else. We should note that Lisa Rinna answered more questions when speaking to her fans. One of her followers did not like her characterization of ROHB as being a television show rather than some sort of documentary. “But that’s why your franchise sucks now,” lamented the fan on Twitter. “You look at it as making a TV show and not being real.” “It is a tv show,” Lisa replied. “We have cameras filming us Corey. That’s the truth.” Stating the name of an internet stranger can either be incredibly compassionate or powerfully dismissive. This, we think, was the latter. The Florida rapper who recently gave a fan $25K and “flewed” them out after winning the #CityGirlsTwerkChallenge, was on Instagram Live when she showed fans her fridge full of soda and various juices. “I don’t drink water,” she said. “It ain’t no muthaf–king water in my fridge. It’s some water down there, but this what I drink,” said Caresha. “I drink this, this is my juice,” she added pointing out the Simply Tropical juice on her shelf. “I drink soda. I drink these little smoothies or whatever the f–k this is. Source: Thomas Barwick / Getty Science Could Be Giving Us A Pill That Prevents Weight Gain Soon, we might all be able to take a pill that will let you scarf down your favorite foods without gaining any weight. SIGN. ME. UP. According to the people over at Science Daily , this pill is meant to affect the RCAN1 gene. In a study on mice, when the gene was turned off, animals could gorge on fatty foods without gaining any calories in their body. “We know a lot of people struggle to lose weight or even control their weight for a number of different reasons,” the study’s lead researcher Professor Damien Keating explained. “The findings in this study could mean developing a pill which would target the function of RCAN1 and may result in weight loss.” Removing the RCAN1 both increased the mice’s metabolism and expended the calories as heat instead of storing them. This process works for the mice to not gain weight because it turns white fat (fat that’s stored) into brown fat (fat that’s burned as heat). The original findings of Keating’s study were published in EMBO Reports . “Mice deficient for RCAN1 have an elevated metabolic rate and are resistant to diet‐induced obesity,” the report said. “Removing RCAN1 had two major effects,” Keating said. “It reduced the storage of fat in dangerous areas around the belly, for example. And then in muscle it actually [caused] muscles to burn more calories at rest.” As of now, scientists including Keating will continue to explore options for creating a pill like this for humans, so, unfortunately, we’re not out of the woods just yet. “The ideal would be to take some sort of pill that didn’t require you to watch your diet, that didn’t require you to exercise,” Keating said. “Now, that might seem like a pipe dream, but the findings that we have out of this mouse study at least indicate a novel pathway that we might be able to target.” Now we just need a time machine to jump to whatever year we actually have this pill…
The battling Markles are at it again. Fortunately, this time they’re focusing their negativity on one another instead of dragging Meghan into yet another messy situation. You may have heard about Meghan’s awful family , led by her horrendous half-siblings, Samantha Markle and Thomas Markle Jr. But do you recall — the most chillaxed Markle of all? Okay, so technically Tyler Dooley isn’t a Markle, but he is the son of Thomas Markle Jr., who shall henceforth be referred to as TMJ, because we wish his jaw would lock shut. Tyler is a “cannabis farmer” who currently stars on a British reality show, which is basically Big Brother , except all of the contestants have sort of tie to the Royal Family. As a result, Tyler has been receiving a lot of attention from the British press, despite the fact that he seems to have no real ties to Meghan. “It was never like we had a super tight-knit family before to be honest,” Tyler said in a recent interview with The Sun . “But the fact that now the whole world gets to see how my father or Aunt Samantha behaves, it is like an open wound for everyone to see.” Yes, Tyler claimed he’s always known that his dad and his aunt were scumbags, but he’s pained by the fact that they’ve decided to flaunt their scumbaggery to the world: “That’s the hardest part, the fact that there is no privacy. It is hard to deal with. It is embarrassing and sad all at the same time,” Dooley said. “My father and Aunt Samantha have sold my grandfather out, sold my family out, sold Meghan out. It has been hard to deal with.” “The only family I have left now are my mom, brother and grandfather.” Tyler went on to reveal that he finds out about Samantha Markle’s latest attempts to ruin Meghan’s life the same way as the rest of us: “We are still close and fine but for the rest of my family, their lives are lived out in the tabloids and that is the hardest thing. “I have to read what’s going on in my family in the news because I don’t even speak to them.” Though he says he’s still tight with his grandfather — Meghan’s dad, Thomas Markle — Tyler is admittedly a bit of an outsider in the Markle clan. Still, his shenanigans provide a welcome distraction from the recent Meghan news, which keeps growing increasingly dark. In addition to the reports about the ongoing feud between Meghan and Kate Middleton, there are new reports about who’s leaking all this royal gossip to the press. The latest to be accused is Prince Andrew, and conspiracy theorists think he’s keeping the press informed on Kate and Meghan’s feud so as to distract from the pedophilia scandal involving his longtime friend Jeffrey Epstein. Like we said, things are getting weird across the pond. Season 37 of The Crown should be pretty wild. Since Meghan apparently doesn’t age, she should be able to play herself. At the reunion special for The Real Housewives of Orange County , Tamra Judge claimed to have caught Shannon Beador in a lie . Tamra claimed that Shannon had been seeing a boyfriend while filming the season, but kept him secret so she could “play the victim card.” She lays out her claims in the shocking video that we have attached. At the reunion, Tamra Judge lobbed a bombshell accusation at Shannon. The former friends feuded on camera as Tamra claimed that Shannon had kept her secret boyfriend hidden. She accused Shannon of hypocrisy, saying that she'd acted distraught over David dating so soon after their divorce but that she was, too. In Tamra's eyes, it looked like Shannon was trying to milk people were sympathy during her tumultuous divorce. Also, as Gina pointed out, it looked like Shannon was hiding part of her personal life from the viewers and from Bravo. Is this really the case? Did Shannon have a secret boyfriend? They can't be talking about Scot Matteson. Scot, whom Shannon began dating this summer, was still spotted everywhere with Shannon as recently as October. There are photos of him with Shannon and with Andy Cohen, possibly as the filming of the reunion special. Scot is a real estate developer and is known for being a family man. At no point did it appear that Shannon was keeping him secret, with other Housewives speaking about him publicly over the summer. So we'll have to look a bit further back than this. What about Alex? Shannon went on some dates with him during the Spring of 2018. The two attended music events but, ultimately, things did not work out. Some speculated that, since Scot may have been in the audience for Tamra's accusations, that Shannon's secret ex was Alex. While it's possible that Tamra was referring to him, Shannon didn't really keep him secret. She made it clear that she was keeping him off of the show, but she did share photos of the two of them together on Instagram. It looks like Shannon's mystery man was probably not someone whom she's shown on social media. This is a guy whom she characterizes as having “treated her like crap,” even though she had fancied him at the time. (It sounds like poor Shannon has a type ) Shannon objected to Tamra's characterization of this dude as a “boyfriend.” As some women learn to their chagrin, going on a couple of dates with a guy is not the same thing as being boyfriend and girlfriend. Shannon's relationship, such as it was, fizzled out before it went anywhere. Tamra was being kind of ridiculous. The whole reason that this came up was because of the discussion of David Beador's new girlfriend, Lesley Cook. Lesley is reportedly pregnant (and David and Lesley may be engaged ), which obviously came up at the reunion. Shannon being upset at David finding a new love by New Years isn't somehow hypocritical if she went on some dates earlier in the year. There are different tiers of dating. Putting a baby in someone on purpose and taking international vacations, which David has been doing, is not the same as going to a concert. Tamra should know that. Gina Kirschenheiter, a newcomer to the franchise and a fan favorite, felt that Shannon was probably obligated to share her life with the show. That's true for some things — as Real Housewife of Atlanta Kenya Moore learned last year when she had a secret wedding. But, as Vicki was quick to point out to Gina, you don't have to share everything from your life. A few dates with a guy is not the same as having a boyfriend, it's not something that you have to put on camera. Gina may have felt like she wasted her time with a matchmaker, and her feelings are valid, but Shannon wasn't trying to trick her. It's said that Shannon and Tamra will make nice in the next installment of the reunion. But we already know that this peace doesn't last.
On the 14th floor of HBO’s office I am instantly greeted by Sandra Bland’s face when I walk into the conference room. Source: Sandra Bland’s sisters Shante Needham (L), Sharon Cooper (R) / Charise Frazier I see two women, Sharon Cooper and Shante Needham, who if given a brief glance, would pass for their deceased sister. They are warm and very welcoming. The spirit of Sandra Bland is definitely in the room. On any other occasion, it might’ve felt like we were gathered to talk about something less heavy. As we greet one another and prepare to dive into the discussion, the imagery of Sandra’s face embedded onto Needham’s shirt won’t let me forget. We are here to talk about HBO’s latest documentary, Say Her Name: The Life and Death of Sandra Bland, which documents the events leading up to the death of their beloved sister, who was found hanged in a Texas jail (Waller County) three days after being pulled over by former officer, Brian Encinia. The completed project shows never before seen footage and details what transpired from Sandra’s arrest on July 10, 2015, to her death on July 13, 2015. The film also touches on Sandra’s impact and how her death became a literal representation of the undocumented state-sanctioned violence that many Black women in America face, birthing the rallying call, #SayHerName. “I think what we have managed to do is fully document what families go through in the aftermath of this,” Cooper said. “It really all comes down to I think historically, people who don’t have the proper or appropriate intel or access, have been telling our stories, and they tell our stories to the exclusion of us.” For the past three years Sandra Bland’s family undertook an unthinkable task. They have repeatedly witnessed the events leading up to their loved one’s death in watching dash cam footage of her arrest. They’ve read and negated online commentary written by people who never knew Sandra. They’ve sat through a long legal battle advocating for some form of justice. And all the while, they’ve had to process the stages of grief. “As you can only imagine, this was very, very, very raw. And to have to relieve it over and over and over again, it put a lot of emotional stress on a person,” Needham said. Just two weeks after Sandra’s death, HBO contacted Sandra’s family to begin documenting. HBO enlisted award-winning filmmakers, Kate Davis and David Heilbroner, to tell the story, who followed the events as they unfolded on social media and in the news. In total, from start to completion, the film took about two and a half years. For the filmmakers who’s life work is based in civil rights and activism, Sandra’s case enlisted a series of challenges and mystique which made her specific story unique. “We were also drawn to the story because it was one more situation where a person of color died at the hands of cops–at the hands of police, whether literally or not. She was in custody in this case, all too often it was happening on the streets,” Davis said. “Editing this film was doing a really complicated braiding. It’s a mystery. It’s a death in custody. It’s also a portrait of a woman as she becomes woke and empowered. It’s also a political parable of race in America,” said Heilbronner. As white filmmakers, Davis and Heilbronner are in complete alignment with what it means to tell a Black woman’s story, putting their own biases and privilege into examination during and after filming as they forged a tight bond with Sandra’s family during the process. “I’m just gonna note the elephant in the room. No Kate and Dave don’t look like the broader part of this community that’s being impacted, but they’re truth tellers,” said Cooper. “They just seemed so genuine, they cared,” Needham said. As filmmakers, Helbronner and Davis did their best to use all of the voices involved in the case, conducting on camera interviews with Sandra’s family and Waller County authorities. According to Davis, Brian Encinia was the only person who declined to participate in the film. Remarkably, Sandra’s voice narrates the documentary using snippets from her video blog, “Sandy Speaks.” “Sandy utilized a very free platform to speak her truth and to express herself, and so it was this digital memorialization of her that I don’t even think she realized that she was making at the time,” said Cooper. “And to be able to leverage that throughout the film and have her appear as the voice narrating her own documentary, that’s powerful and I don’t think that we take a step back and are just in awe of that and how powerful that is and how social media, because it does give us the power to connect and build community, we connected and built so much community through the duration of that case,” Cooper said. Social media and the news media played a large role in Sandra’s case, setting a tone for public perception in regards to the narrative. It presented rewarding but oftentimes difficult challanges for all involved; the family, filmmakers and the family’s legal counsel, Cannon Lambert. Lambert helped the family secure a $1.9 million in a civil settlement and also assisting the family in navigating a difficult and painful legal terrain. Encinia was fired by the Texas Department of Public Safety in March 2016 after a grand jury indicted Encina over falsifying Sandra’s arrest report. The Sandra Bland Act was signed into law in June 2017 offering an investment in de-escalation tactics for officers and awareness surrounding mental health. But a few days after the Sandra Bland Act was signed, the perjury charge was dropped against Encinia. Sandra’s case begs the question surrounding the definition of justice. “Justice is evasive,” said Lambert. “I don’t think you ever go into it believing that you as a lawyer have the ability to bring about justice. What you have the ability to do though is to shepard families through a very difficult terrain so that they can come away feeling like they were heard,” he said. Forgiveness is also an idea which Sandra’s family does not feel committed to take up. Needham and Cooper both expressed that the first step to forgiveness is an apology, which they believe has not been issued on behalf of Waller County authorities. But through their pain, the family has found time to heal using therapy, journaling and by supporting other families who have experienced the same difficulties. “We will never be the same. Holidays, birthdays, marriages, kids, grandkids. She’s gonna miss all of that. And why?” Needham said. “Say Her Name: The Life and Death of Sandra Bland” premieres Monday, December 3 at 10 p.m. (EST) on HBO.

She talked about having to move into her mothers home, getting her car repossessed, missing out on social outings, and making major sacrifices to create the entertainment site we know today. Blac Chyna has made it very clear that she doesn’t feel that she’s getting enough money from Rob Kardashian . So she is now endorsing a line of skin-bleaching creams, which she plans to promote in person in Nigeria. Twitter is positively livid that she could stoop so low. The product that she is hawking is “Whitenicious X Blac Chyna Diamond Illuminating & Lightening Cream.” That’s quite a mouthful. And also problematic as hell. Each and every cream cream jar features a Swarovski crystal stud design. Those simple jars sell for $250 each. And Chyna is traveling to promote the products in person in Nigeria. Chyna claims that she has been using Whitenicious dark spot corrector on herself for years. Her alleged use of this product has been to deal with darker, hyperpigmented areas of her skin. Now she has her own line of the products to promote for a hefty sum. Next week, while most of us are finishing up our Thanksgiving leftovers, Chyna will be in Lago. This is not earning her a lot of love here in the States. Colorism is basically racism’s less famous sibling, but it’s just as insidious. In colorism, even people of color may dismiss or discriminate against members of their own ethnic communities over skin tone. While European colonizers did not bring colorism to Africa, centuries of racist occupation, oppression, and influence have made things worse. Now, Chyna is capitalizing — literally — on the self-hatred that dark-skinned women may feel towards themselves. A lot of beauty products seek to exploit the insecurities of consumers. Skin-bleaching products take that a step further, exploiting racism and colorism to turn a profit. Nigeria already has a problem with people using skin-bleaching, as people both in the US and in Nigeria have pointed out. “Blac chyna is so gross for this,” tweets one outraged Nigerian. The tweet continues: “She’s targeted nigeria because it has one of the highest rates of skin bleaching, so so trash” Because of this, Chyna’s name trended on Twitter on Tuesday as people responded to her new business venture with horror and disgust. It is understandable that many people would feel that they are being betrayed by a member of their own community. However, some believe that people are wrong to point the finger at Chyna. “Yall really mad at Blac Chyna for signing a deal that supports skin whitening,” begins another tweet. The post continues: “but ain’t mad at the company that signed her(African) or the people who are buying it(also African).” This person believes that the blame resides elsewhere. “Chyna isn’t the culprit in this,” the tweet concludes. “Skin whitening had been a thing in Nigeria for years!” So, who is right? The answer is as complicated as the problem, and, as a white man, it’s ultimately way out of my lane. But it seems clear that a sizable and vocal portion of the black community in America and in Nigeria is upset. They feel like Chyna is exploiting the worst of people’s instincts to fill her pockets. It is also clear that a lot of people were buying this anyway, and that if Chyna didn’t have this deal, someone else would.
