Sherri Shepherd has something in common with Juan Pablo Galavis and Phil Robertson : All three have gotten into trouble for various anti-gay remarks. In Shepherd’s case, controversy broke out this week following an interview with Fusion host Alicia Menendez. Asked about the biggest misconception people have about her, Shepherd said some feel she’s overly “judgmental” and “homophobic” going on to explain why… and coming across to many as, well, homophobic. “You grow up being a Christian and you grow up believing homosexuality is a sin; you’re going to hell if you’re a homosexual,” the comedian said of her views. “This is something that they teach in churches. So it’s something that I grew up believing. Shepherd went on to say she “might not agree” with the gay lifestyle, but she isn’t going to argue with it, either. But she’s “trying to make it to heaven by the skin of my teeth” and she asks folks to respect how she feels about homosexuality in her attempt to make it there. As you might expect, some took exception to the idea that Shepherd could claim gay people are sinners while still making it sound like she’s not against them, a confusing line to walk that she tried to explain yesterday on The View. “I’m truly sorry to anyone I’ve offended,” Shepherd began. “My interview was misrepresented, and only a portion of my comments were used as a headline to give the impression that I was condemning members of the LGBT community living in their own truth. She went on: “In the interview, I express I was raised as a child to have a certain set of beliefs, but my beliefs have evolved significantly as my own personal relationship with Christ has increased. “I believe that love is the grace of all things and I have no desire to judge anybody by who they are. I’m a person of compassion and anyone who knows me knows that I love, I accept, I embrace everybody who has love in their hearts. So I love you.” Sounds heartfelt to us. Are you buying it? Those of Duck Dynasty dropped in the wake of Robertson’s contentious views, while The Bachelor has remained steady after Juan Pablo said it would set a bad example of ABC ever aired a gay season of the hit show.
Lindsey Vonn is an Olympic gold medalist and a gorgeous celebrity who is dating Tiger Woods, but even she goes through some insecurities regarding body image. Last year’s Met Costume Gala in New York City was tough for her to attend for that reason, the 29-year-old confesses. Vonn told SELF in its latest issue: “It was hard to go … with people who eat lettuce and a Diet Coke for dinner. It’s difficult to be at events with a room full of women who weigh half as much as you do,”. She doesn’t want to be like those girls, though. That she makes clear. “I don’t envy them, though, because so many of them are skinny-fat. They have more cellulite than most people. I feel like I need to give them a cheeseburger.” “It’s sexy and beautiful to be strong.” Her boyfriend helps her stay strong, she said, and not just physically. With Vonn unable to compete in the 2014 Olympics, she’s leaned on Tiger more than ever. “He’s helped me stay patient through rehab,” she said. “Golf is all about patience. He helped me take it one day at a time. I’d say, ‘Why can’t I do this? I want to!’ And he’d say, ‘You’ll get your chance. It will come.’” “We’re good for each other. I don’t know what he’s learned from me, to be honest. They won’t let Snoop do his thug-thizzle. Women Organization Tries To Stop Snoop Lion’s Performance A women’s rights group in Australia is trying to stop Snoop’s paper. We’re sure he’ll smoke a pound of sticky icky to ease the stress. According to Rolling Out: Apparently, not everyone loves Snoop. The charismatic rapper has faced protest by a women’s organization called, Collective Shout that was hoping to stop his scheduled touring of Australia because they say his music “glorifies violence against women.” The group went so far as to try to have his work/visa permit revoked and deny his entry into the country, though those efforts were eventually shot down by a judge. Now that Snoop has gotten the okay to perform down under, he will continue with his plans of co-headlining the Big Day Out Festival with planned dates in the Gold Coast, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, and Perth. Omaha Cursing “Toddler Thug” Taken Into Protective Custody The “Thug Cycle” has been halted for this little cussin up a storm toddler … According to Raw Story: A diapered toddler seen repeating profanities in an online video has been taken into protective custody by authorities in Nebraska, police said. The video was posted by the Omaha Police Officers Association under a title, “The Thug Cycle,” that some found offensive. “We here at OmahaPOA.com viewed the video and we knew that despite the fact that it is sickening, heartbreaking footage, we have an obligation to share it to continue to educate the law abiding public about the terrible cycle of violence and thuggery that some young innocent children find themselves helplessly trapped in,” the police union said in its post, adding that the video came from “a local thug’s public Facebook page.” Investigators said they found nothing criminal in the video, which shows the child making obscene gestures to adults who hurl racist and obscene comments at the boy and prompt him to repeat crude phrases. “Now while we didn’t see anything in this video that is blatantly ‘illegal,’ we sure did see a lot that is flat out immoral and completely unhealthy for this little child from a healthy upbringing standpoint,” the police union said in its post with the video. The union’s president, Sgt. Jeff Wells, also said one of the adults mentions a local street gang in the video. The child was taken into custody Wednesday along with three other children by Omaha police’s Child Victim Unit and the Nebraska Child Protective Services. Police did not release the names of any of the children or families or disclose their relationship to one another. “That is why when we talk about the culture, the criminal culture, that this is to try to break the cycle and deal with the culture of violence and the culture of gang activity,” Wells said. But local civil rights activists said the police union’s post “crossed a line” in a city where officers’ treatment of minorities, who make up about a quarter of Omaha’s population, has led to lawsuits and criminal charges against a pair of cops and firings and reassignments of others in the past year. “For them to take a video out of context — a 2-year-old who doesn’t have the brain capacity to know what’s going on — and to say that this child, because two adults acted inappropriately, is going to end up in a life of crime is totally inappropriate,” said Willie Hamilton, president of Black Men United.
