Rick Ross Buries Twitter Feud With ‘Fire’ Slim Thug Collabos

‘I leaked ‘Paid the Cost,’ just to show the haters,’ Ross tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Rick Ross says he didn’t fire shots. It was just a rap reference that he had no intention of putting out anyway. A couple of weeks ago, a track leaked to the mixtape circuit and the Internet labeled “King Boss.” Mr. Rozay rapped on the song, “She dated Slim Thug, but now she f— with me/ She finally made it to the biggest boss luckily.” Slim Thugger quickly took to his Twitter page with a question — and a retort. “WTF @rickyrozay is that a diss?” Slim wrote. “Just threw @rickyrozay cd out the roof of the coupe haters get no play in my ride.” Well, before things got too far out of hand, Ross and Thugger talked , hammered out the misunderstanding and actually banged out a couple of new, official songs. One of them, “Paid the Cost,” is out now. “First of all, I wanna salute the homie, Slim Thugga,” Ross said on Saturday in Los Angeles during the MTV VMA Radio Forum. “Maybe two weeks ago, a record had surfaced that I recorded before I even met Slim Thug. Just not knowing the dude and made the record and, after the fact, maybe four or five years later, the record leaked. He responded in a way that was totally understandable. What was funny about that situation is that Slim Thug is actually an artist that after I met him, embraced me and showed me the most love. The homie, Slim Thug, and I gotta salute the homie, Trae Tha Truth.” Ross said that Slim and Trae always roll out the red carpet for him when he goes to H-Town. “For a record to surface and me being a little slow on Twitter, I didn’t really peep it until two days later,” Ross continued. “When I found out about it and heard about it, they said I’m dissing Slim Thug. ‘What’s the name of the record? “King Boss”?’ he remembered asking. “I never had a record called ‘King Boss.’ I just left it alone. After the fact, [Slim] asked me about it. I told the homie, ‘Of course it ain’t nothing but love between me and you, big dawg.’ We got in the studio, later that night. The night we spoke. I emailed him something; shot him something, did something for his album. It’s fire. Then I leaked ‘Paid the Cost,’ just to show the haters.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Related Artists Rick Ross (Hip-Hop) Slim Thug

Around the World in 10 Adorable Baby Seals (Slideshow)

Photo via It’s Nature Here’s some cuteoverload to start your Tuesday off: Adorable baby seals get almost as much recognition in the world of conservation as giant pandas, polar bears, and other genetically good-looking species (to humans, that is) — but they’re still undeniably cute. Yet seals — some of which are endangered thanks to fishing, hunting, and the fur trade — are some of nature’s most fascinating creatures: Some can dive as far as 1,000 meters underwater, others grow to weigh 8,800 pounds — and they’re as comfortable on ice floes as they are underwater or on … Read the full story on TreeHugger

An Apology to the Followers of Glenn Beck – Credit where credit is due

Where I apologize for thinking that the political right is religiously intolerant – They embrace Glenn Beck as a religious leader despite the fact that he is a Mormon, and therefore a “fringe” christian. I am sore amazed! added by: jmarkred

Is Piers Morgan’s Larry King Live Takeover the Ellen/American Idol Snafu of 2011?

We didn’t need more confirmation that Piers Morgan will take over for Larry King next year, but here we have it: Morgan and CNN have released a statement announcing that he will “fill the legendary suspenders” in January . Huzzah. While we’ve already coped with the fact that Morgan will say, “Hello, Tuscaloosa!” with little flair, it’s time to consider whether the America’s Got Talent judge’s new gig will be 2011’s greatest TV snafu.

Joe Klein & Matthews Link Anti-Muslim ‘Attitude’ to ‘Deranged Muslim’ Violence, Small-Town Whites Miss ‘Ethnic Purity’ of Past

On Sunday’s syndicated Chris Matthews show, during a discussion of a poll reporting that a majority of self-described Republicans expressed a negative view of Islam, as Time magazine’s Joe Klein recounted incidents of recent violence in America by Muslim extremists, host Matthews asked if “this [anti-Muslim] attitude against them” was to blame for “stirring them up,” leading Klein to agree that anti-Muslim attitudes played a role: JOE KLEIN, TIME MAGAZINE: You’ve had over the last year, two or three major incidents of deranged Muslims, the Army doctor down at Fort Hood, the Times Square bomber, who were Americans, American citizens. CHRIS MATTHEWS: And what’s stirring them up? This attitude against them? KLEIN: Yeah. But I also think that there’s a small minority of Muslims in the world who believe this extremist philosophy. After Matthews questioned whether opposition to the Ground Zero mosque and “apocalyptic talk by people like Glenn Beck” exist because the President is black, Klein painted small-town white Americans as resentful that modern America no longer has the “ethnic purity” of the past, with Matthews responding, “Well said.”: KLEIN: A good part of the anxiety that’s going on in small-town white America isn’t just the plain old black and white stuff of the past. It’s the fact that South Asians are moving in and running the local motel or … there are a lot of Latinos about who are moving into these areas, that their grandchildren are coming out as gay or intermarrying. The purity of, the “ethnic purity,” to coin a phrase, that they grew up with no longer exists, and I think that that in addition to the economic – real, real, economic problems… MATTHEWS: Well said. I think that is the change, the whole change in the world they live in is something. Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Sunday, August 29, syndicated Chris Matthews Show: CHRIS MATTHEWS: Let’s talk about the mosque in New York. We’ve got a poll out here, an amazing poll that came out this week: 54 percent of Republicans say they have an unfavorable view of Islam – the religion, not Arab politics, not terrorists, no subset, the billion Islamic people in the world, they don’t like. Serious business here. KATTY KAY, BBC: I think that this has gone beyond the mosque. MATTHEWS: These are Republicans. KAY: That this is now, the conversation that has followed the mosque has almost become a bigger problem in and of itself, and the tone of that conversation. One of the advantages that America has always had is that you have one of the most assimilated, moderate Muslim populations in the Western world, and that has played to your advantage. The risk here is that incidents like a taxi driver, a Muslim taxi driver getting stabbed in New York- MATTHEWS: By a probably deranged person. Let’s be fair. KAY: It is deranged people in Holland who shoot Muslims, you know, in the streets. That is (INAUDIBLE) JOE KLEIN, TIME MAGAZINE: Yeah, but there are, but, you know, you’ve had over the last year, two or three major incidents of deranged Muslims, the Army doctor down at Fort Hood, the Times Square bomber, who were Americans, American citizens. MATTHEWS: And what’s stirring them up? KLEIN: Well, I think that- MATTHEWS: This attitude against them? KLEIN: Yeah. But I also think that there’s a small minority of Muslims in the world who believe this extremist philosophy. KAY: But the risk for America is if you start putting all of those extremists in with all of Muslims. And that’s what’s being blurred here. … MATTHEWS: Is it based on the fact that we have an African-American President? If we had a President- KLEIN: No. MATTHEWS: -like Hillary Clinton right now, would we have the same level of apocalyptic talk by people like Glenn Beck, the same attitude towards this mosque which is a couple blocks away from the World Trade Center on a row of buildings? KLEIN: First of all, we have a mixed race President who has a middle name “Hussein.” And a good part of the anxiety that’s going on in small-town white America isn’t just the plain old black and white stuff of the past. It’s the fact that South Asians are moving in and running the local motel or, you know, I don’t want to deal in those sorts of cliches, but there are a lot of Latinos about who are moving into these areas that their grandchildren are coming out as gay or intermarrying. The purity of, the “ethnic purity,” to coin a phrase, that they grew up with no longer exists, and I think that that in addition to the economic – real, real, economic problems – (INAUDIBLE) MATTHEWS: Well said. I think that is the change, the whole change in the world they live in is something.

What Can Conan O’Brien Say About NBC and Jay Leno During the Emmy Awards?

…a lot, as it turns out! Despite the fact that Conan O’B rien’s non-disparagement agreement with NBC doesn’t expire until September 1, the ex- Tonight Show host is free to mock his former employers if he wins an Emmy on Sunday night , just so long as his barbs are true. That means if Conan gets up on stage, expect at least one Jay Leno laugh and a dig at the network built around The Biggest Loser . Considering The Daily Show has this category locked down, however, NBC shouldn’t be too worried. [ THR, Esq. ]

CBS, NBC Mourn Loss of Funding for Embryonic Stem Cell Research

A  recent court ruling  found that federal funding for embryonic stem cell research violates laws prohibiting the government from using taxpayer money for research that destroys an embryo. The ruling has sent the evening network news broadcasts reeling. While ABC’s “World News” briefly reported on the ruling Aug. 23, the NBC “Nightly News” and CBS “Evening News” have both aired reports suggesting that the ruling would end life-saving research – in spite of the fact the embryonic research can continue if privately funded, and federal funding of adult stem cell research is unaffected. NBC’s Robert Bazell reported Aug. 24 that the ruling “left a lot of researchers fairly stunned.” CBS’s Wyatt Andrews called the ruling “a shock.” But was it really? Neither report mentioned that federal funding for embryonic stem cell research was  severely restricted  under the Bush administration, and was only widened by the Obama administration  in July 2009 . Both reports also suggested that the ruling would end life-saving research. Bazell featured Dr. Chuck Murray, who is “in the delicate business of rebuilding severely damaged hearts and has tried adult and embryonic stem cells in his efforts.” The segment featured heart muscle built from embryonic stem cells, and Bazell warned that “because of yesterday’s court ruling, this research might have to stop by the end of the year.” But he didn’t mention that the rest of Dr. Murray’s research – on adult stem cells – is unaffected by the ruling. On CBS, Andrews warned the ruling “could halt a half-million dollar research project both the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins have been using to study childhood leukemia” and another studying Down syndrome. But later in the report he noted that the National Institutes of Health has said that “more than 200 existing stem cell experiments could continue for now but may not be renewed.” Andrews did note adult stem cell research is unaffected by the ruling. While both reports suggested the ruling would mean the end of promising research, they both alluded to the fact that the research will, in fact, continue – just not with taxpayer money. Private funding of embryonic stem cell research is not affected by the ruling. Both reports also included brief input from pro-life advocates and medical ethicists who praised the decision. 9 Haiku Inspired by Robert Rodriguez and Jessica Alba’s Spy Kids Reboot

It’s kind of a depressing morning out there for movie fans, what with the preponderance of useless development news or recycled old nuggets about everyone from Doug Liman to Ben Stiller . This isn’t déjà vu; it’s just a faintly defined outer circle of Hell. And then there’s this: Robert Rodriguez wants to make a fourth Spy Kids film, rebooting his hit franchise with Jessica Alba despite the fact that the original kids are in their early 20s. Naturally it’ll be in 3D… and so the apocalyptic End of Ideas proceeds. How to grapple with this? How about some haiku?
