Obviously Lindsay Lohan remains a tabloid mainstay ten years later with new reports of bad behavior seemingly surfacing every day. (Today’s nugget: Lindsay is banging a married man !) Conversely, Amanda Seyfried has avoided Hollywood excess and carved out a successful career for herself, at one point even stealing a part that was planned for Lindsay in the film Lovelace . Amanda is dating actor Justin Long these days and she’s earned a reputation as a reliable actress and down-to-earth star. Tina Fey, of course, went on to create the long-running NBC sitcom 30 Rock . Tina remains a pop cultural force to be reckoned with and cites the lasting impact of Mean Girls (which she wrote as well as co-starred in) as one of her proudest career accomplishments. And with good reason. The film remains a beloved fan favorite not only for it’s endlessly quotable script (“If you’re from Africa, then why are you white?”), but also for the way it broke ground culturally. Mean Girls is one of the first films targeted at teens to feature an openly gay character who’s ridiculed only by the cruelest and most ignorant of his classmates. That character – Damien – was “too gay to function” back in ’04, but the actor who portrayed him, Daniel Franzese came out as gay just last week. In a way, Franzese’s coming out is a testament to how far we’ve come as a society in the ten years since the Plastics reigned over North Shore High. An 18-year old resident of that country, Stian Ytterdahl, got a tattoo this week of a McDonald’s receipt from his trip to that fast food chain on Monday. Reports indicate that his friends forced him to do so as punishment for “being too active with the ladies.” This makes positively no sense, but if anything is gonna turn the opposite sex off, it’s a permanent reminder that you’re going home with a guy who frequents McDonald’s. “Now I’m a living billboard,” Ytterdahl told the newspaper Romereskes Blad, “But I think all this is just fun. Maybe it won’t be as fun when I’m 50 or 60 years, but it’s my choice.” Quick note, Stian: This Mitt Romney face tattoo was also someone’s choice at one point. The same goes for this Family Guy tattoo that a fan got to honor Brian after he died on air… except that he was brought back to life a few weeks later. Oops! In a word? OOPS! Following the apparent death of Brian on Family Guy a few weeks ago, one dedicated nut job fan mourned the late canine in the only way he saw appropriate: via a tattoo of the dog along with the simple letters “RIP.” Of course, there’s just one problem: Brian was resurrected on Family Guy Season 12 Episode 8 , which aired this past Sunday and which featured Stewie going back in time to bring back his deceased pal. Hmmm… we can think of one other person who wishes he had a time machine right about now. It’s a Christmas miracle! On last night’s new episode of Family Guy, Stewie and his new dog Vinny visited a toy store, where the former ran into a future version of himself and realized Stewie 2.0 has a time machine pad in his backpack. It took a few moments of debate, but Stewie then decided to give himself and viewers at home the best holiday gift of all: He went back in time and resurrected Brian, who was killed off the show a few weeks ago to much debate and criticism. Detroit is bankrupt. As in out of money. The major American city’s well-documented financial problems have apparently worsened beyond anyone’s expectations. Once emblematic of industrial clout, Detroit became the biggest U.S. city to file for bankruptcy today, its finances ravaged by years of decline. The bankruptcy filing, which had been feared for months, leaves Detroit’s future on an uncertain course, to say the least, in the years ahead. Officials say that laying off municipal employees, selling off assets, raising fees and scaling back basic services are all possibilities going forward. They felt this was their only way to move forward at all, however. “Only one feasible path offers a way out,” Gov. Rick Snyder said. Kevyn Orr, a bankruptcy expert hired by the state to stop Detroit’s fiscal free-fall, filed under Chapter 9, the bankruptcy system for cities and counties. Orr said Detroit would continue paying its bills and employees. The city’s woes have piled up for generations. In the 1950s, its population grew to 1.8 million people, many lured by plentiful, well-paying auto jobs. But like many cities, Detroit declined along with the industry, and as developers starting building suburbs. Today, the population hovers around 700,000. Orr was unable to persuade creditors, unions and pension boards to take pennies on the dollar to help with the city’s massive financial restructuring. Orr said he “bent over backward” to work with creditors, rejecting criticism that he was too rigid. “Anybody who takes that position just hasn’t been listening.” While its outcome is uncertain, the bankruptcy could last through summer or fall 2014, which coincides with the end of Orr’s 18-month appointment. Snyder determined earlier this year that Detroit was in a financial emergency comprising a “never-ending cycle” without a plan for improvement. “The citizens need and deserve a clear road out,” he said. “The city’s creditors and public servants, deserve to know what promises the city can and will keep.” “The only way to do those things is to radically restructure the city and allow it to reinvent itself without the burden of impossible obligations.” No matter what, at least they’re not simply giving up … Family Guy Clip: Detroit Gives Up
