Steve Harvey suddenly has something significant in common with Warren Beatty. But it has nothing to do with the massive number of women with whom Beatty has had sex. Instead, it’s the embarrassment of making an epically famous mistake on a national awards show stage. In December of 2015, Harvey concluded the Miss Universe Pageant by announcing Miss Colombia as the winner. The only problem at the time? Miss Colombia was not actually the winner. That honor actually belonged to Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines, a gross error that Harvey was forced to come out and admit minutes after misinforming the audience initially. It was quite the snafu, although it didn’t do much harm to Harvey’s career. Considering he was invited back to host the same beauty pageant a year later. Steve Harvey Announces WRONG Miss Universe Winner: You Gotta Watch This! On Sunday night, meanwhile, Warren Beatty was at the center of the greatest gaffe in Academy Awards history. Due to an envelope mix-up that really was not his fault, the legendary actor helped tell the world that La La Land had won Best Picture for 2017. Except it hadn’t. Moonlight had won Best Picture for 2017. Watch this VERY awkward snafu take place in the following video: Oscars 2017 Best Picture: There’s Been a Mistake! Soon after the proper victor was crowned, host Jimmy Kimmel tried to lighten the tense mood, quipping on stage: “Guys, this is very unfortunate what happened. Personally, I blame Steve Harvey for this.” It was a pretty good line, but it also gave Harvey a chance to milk the situation for as much attention as he possibly could. “Good morning everybody! Went to sleep early last night. So…what I miss? #Oscars,” the comedian Tweeted this morning, prior to using the mistake as a PR opportunity. “Tune in to @SteveHarveyFM at 8 AM ET today for my response to last night’s #Oscars . YOU KNOW I have something to say,” he added. On his radio show, Harvey proceeded to wax at length about the Oscars flub. “I know all about this. I know more than anyone else in the world about this,” said the 60-year-old. “I am the creator of these moments. The epicurean of this.” Harvey went on reference a number reactions made on social media to the televised mistake. “Because Warren made a mistake, does he have to die?” Harvey joked. “Should he lose his life? Y’all wanna kill him? Well he needs security because of this.” Prior to the cast and crew from Moonlight accepting the Best Picture prize, Beatty jumped back on the microphone and explained what happened, saying he was confused the second he opened the envelope because it read “Emma Stone, La La Land.” Since this snafu took place, PricewaterhouseCoopers, the auditing firm that tallies the Oscars votes, issued an apology and took responsibility. View Slideshow: Academy Awards Flub Inspires Internet, Leads to Other Best Picture Possibilities “Me and Warren handled it great. It’s me and Warren’s thing,” added Harvey. “We handled it great. At least the producers of the Oscars walked out with him… and they corrected the mistake on the night.” Concluded Harvey on his show: “Warren I know your pain!” “I can help Warren get through this. I’m [going to] show him how to handle it with dignity and grace. Thank God for producers who stand with their talent. Unlike waiting the next day to handle it with the press, as it was suggested in my ear… “I can help Warren get through this. Call me Warren, baby.”
At the time of his stunning death over the weekend , Bill Paxton was starring in Training Day, a lackluster drama on CBS. Over the course of his impressive career, the actor was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards due to his performance on HBO’s Big Love. To many, however, Paxton will be best remembered for his role in 1996’s Twister, an action movie in which Paxton starred opposite Helen Hunt as a professional storm chaser. It is against this backdrop that hundreds of real-life storm chasers paid tribute to Paxton on Sunday. They spelled out the veteran actor’s initials (“BP”) using GPS coordinates on a map across the “tornado alley” in Kansas and Oklahoma. The “tornado alley” boundaries are not clearly defined, but it spreads across 19 states. According to John Wetter, who works with the National Weather Service, storm chasers have never before spelled out the initials of a non –storm chaser before. But the gesture symbolizes what kind of influence Paxton and Twister had on this profession. “There are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of meteorologists today – myself included – who were impacted by the movie Twister and the role Bill played in that,” Wetter told the Associated Press, adding: “Twister was kind of the first time in a mass media place the meteorologist became cool, if only for a little while.” Paxton passed away on Saturday following complications from heart surgery. It is believed he suffered a stroke. “A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker,” his rep said in a statement soon afterward. “Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.” The actor is survived by his wife, Louise Newbury, and two children James and Lydia. He was honored at the 89th Annual Academy Awards during the In Memoriam segment on Sunday night, although not in the video itself because his death took place just 24 hours before the show aired. Said Jennier Aniston, staving off tears, upon introducing the In Memoriam photo gallery and clip snow: Tonight, as we celebrate together, we also take a moment to mourn the many legends we lost this past year. Whether they were a musical prince leading the revolution on a concert stage or a movie princess leading the rebellion in a galaxy far, far away, a force of nature in front of the camera or a force driving it, each and every one was a cherished member of our Hollywood family. As was beloved actor and friend who left us just yesterday, Bill Paxton. All were loved and all will be missed. Amen. After weeks of rumors, we now know Kailyn Lowry is pregnant with her third child. There’s still word on the identity of Kailyn’s baby daddy (though we know it’s not Jo Rivera or Javi Marroquin, the fathers of her first two kids), but Lowry is no longer hiding the pregnancy from fans. The beloved Teen Mom 2 star took to Snapchat yesterday, and made no effort to conceal her burgeoning baby bump: As you can see, the bump is still in its early stages (no word yet on how far along Kailyn is) but the important thing is that she’s no longer keeping it under wraps. The pics uploaded to Snapchat over the weekend show nothing more intriguing than Kailyn engaged in some light home repairs, but they were quickly screen-captured and shared across other platforms as Lowry’s first visual acknowledgement of her third pregnancy. Kailyn has long had a complicated relationship with Teen Mom 2 fans, and the controversy of the past weeks seems to have encapsulated many of her mixed feelings. Fans were speculating that Kailyn was pregnant well before she was prepared to go public with the news. In fact, when she first commented on the rumors, she issued a firm denial in a statement to Radar Online. When Kailyn did share the news with fans, she seemed to do so reluctantly: “I am pregnant,” she wrote on Instagram last week. She added: “Please know that this was a choice I made. I already know some won’t agree, but I’ve been showered with support by the ones I love since I found out.” So it’s not the glimpse of slight bump that fans are excited about. No, it’s the fact that Kailyn is openly and proudly acknowledging the fact that her family will soon be expanding. Lowry was slammed on social media last week by fans expressing their disgust with her for having three children by three different men. It was a sad display, and it seemed to briefly get under the outspoken reality star’s skin, as she was uncharacteristically quiet in response. These days, however, Kailyn seems to be through with letting the haters get her down. And she’s back to displaying the sort of bold self-confidence that made fans fall in love with her in the first place. Amazing how much can be conveyed in a few simple Snapchat selfies. Casey Affleck Slams Trump Policies We’ve been really trying to avoid feeling any type of positive vibes for Casey Affleck for a number of reasons, one of them being that he’s a relative of Ben Affleck’s who definitely reaps plenty of the nepotistic benefits of being Ben’s little brother, another being that he’s pretty much the only thing standing in the way of Denzel getting a Best Actor Oscar tonight for “Fences” and the last being that he hasn’t been half as clumsy as Nate Parker when maneuvering around questions about his shady past which includes sexual assault allegations, but clearly the guy is trying to redeem himself and after the speech he gave at the Independent Spirit Awards Saturday night we may even have to watch ‘Manchester By The Sea’ finally. After all — besides slamming Donald Trump’s policies for being un-American he also quoted our director homie Ezra Edelman’s mom — Marian Wright Edelman, who is a national treasure and an absolute HERO of a black woman (she founded the Children’s Defense Fund). Edelman last week penned a beautiful op-ed for the Huffington Post which discussed how the family of Frederick Douglass stepped up following President Trump’s Black History Month breakfast blunder to remind the country of his legacy. In that piece, Edelman called this a “time to struggle for the future of the soul of our nation.” “I know this feels preachy and boring and I’m preaching to the choir but I’m just lending my little voice to the chorus here,” Affleck added. “And saying that all of you, [if] you are struggling, you’re doing it so, so well and speaking up and I’m really proud to be a part of this community for that reason.” Clap for him?
Bill Paxton – the actor known for a wide array of roles over the course of his 40-year career in Hollywood – has passed away unexpectedly. He was 61 years old. Paxton’s family broke the news of the beloved TV and film star’s death in a statement issued just moments ago. “It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” the statement reads. Details are scarce, and the statement offered no information with regard to the nature of the surgical procedure. Paxton starred in some of the biggest blockbusters of the ’80s and ’90s, including Twister, Titanic, and Aliens. He also gave unforgettable performances in a number of highly-acclaimed films that have since come to be considered classics. Tombstone, Apollo 13, and A Simple Plan are just a few of Bill’s roles that made him one of the all-time greats in the business. In addition to his film work, Paxton was also a highly regarded television actor, especially within the last decade. He played the lead in HBO’s critically-acclaimed and fan-beloved polygamy drama Big Love for five seasons. Paxton was also nominated an Emmy for his work in the 2012 miniseries The Hatfields and the McCoys. Bill was starring in the CBS series Training Day at the time of his death. “Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable,” the statement from the Paxton family reads. Born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1955, Paxton was present at the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. A photo of an 8-year-old Bill being lifted onto his father’s shoulders still hangs in a museum commemorating the assassination. Paxton played a number of bit parts in low-budget films upon first moving to Hollywood before landing his big break. It was after making the acquaintance of a young director named James Cameron on the set 1984’s The Terminator that his career really took off. Paxton went on to star in some of Cameron’s best-known films, including Titanic, a movie that shattered every box office record in the books. Upon its release in 1997, no film had made nearly as much money as the epic love story, which remains a classic two decades later. Among action film fanatics, Paxton’s varied and widely successful body of work has earned him this fun distinction: View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam He is one of only two actors to be confronted by a Terminator (The Terminator), a Xenomorph (Aliens), and a Predator (Predator 2). Tributes to Paxton from family, friends, and fans began pouring in on Twitter just minutes after news of his death went public. Instantly, grieving fans have made him the world’s number one trending topic, which is a testament to the impact of his life. Paxton is survived by a wife and two children. Our thoughts are with them and all of his family and friends at this time. R.I.P. UPDATE : The actor reportedly underwent heart surgery and died of a stroke afterward, according to TMZ.
Kawan “KP” Prather On DJ Duty For The Global Spin Awards Last week The 2017 Global Spin Awards went down in New Orleans on Thursday. BOSSIP had the opportunity to catch up with Grammy winning songwriter/producer Kawan “KP” Prather before the show about serving as house dj for the Global Spin Awards, his new role as head of music at Pharrell Williams’ I Am OTHER collective and the truth about the voting members of the Grammy Awards. For those who don’t already know, Prather got his start in the music industry as DJ for Parental Advisory, a Dungeon Family act once signed to LaFace records. In his years since, he’s gone on to write and produce for numerous acts and worked as an A&R at labels including Sony and Atlantic. Most recently Prather has been a highly visible DJ responsible for setting the mood for some of the hottest parties in Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York. “I’m overly excited,” KP told BOSSIP about heading to New Orleans to serve as official DJ for the Global Spin Awards. “I’m anxious, actually kinda nervous, not in a scary kinda way — I guess anxious is the word. It’s deejaying for your heroes. It’s weird. I feel good about what I do but I haven’t done it in a space with these kinds of eyes and ears.” Prather told BOSSIP the Global Spin Awards are important because good DJ’s don’t get their just due. “It’s important we recognize great DJ’s,” KP told BOSSIP. “A lot of times the craft doesn’t get the credit it deserves because there are a lot of really bad DJ’s stinking up a room, in their headphones, in their own little world. You have to shed light on people who do it as a craft.” Especially excited for the No Limit Reunion planned at the Awards, Prather said New Orleans was the perfect setting for this year’s ceremony. “They make the most Lit music, from Bounce to Rap — everything about New Orleans is so festive that it inspires that energy,” Prather explained. “Even the hardest murdering songs feel fun. C-Murder “F Them Other N’s” doesnt ‘even feel harsh when it’s on. To be celebrating No Limit and DJ’s in New Orleans — it’s the perfect place.” Besides his duties at the Global Spin Awards, Prather has been busy in his role as Head of Music at I Am OTHER — Pharrell Williams creative collective. “I run the music portion of all things Pharrell, but he has so many portions to him,” Prather said, happily listing Williams’ many accomplishments. “His access is fashion, it’s movies, it’s now about to be TV. I feel honored to feel respected enough and that he feels comfortable enough to put that in my hands — based on how important he is to the creative world. It’s a real big deal to me.” KP says the pair reached their working agreement in a moment when they both were wrestling with some career discontent. “Ironically it came out of both of us being super frustrated,” Prather recalled. “There was a moment when the song “Happy” was supposed to go somewhere else and we both thought it was a good idea, but for one reason or another nobody else was on our side about it. It came down to one of those conversations of ‘Man, you should just do it.’ We have been working together since T.I. ‘I’m Serious.’ Pretty much every project I’ve done, he’s had the opportunity to work on it if he wanted to and he always showed up.” “We’ve had a very trusting music relationship for so long that we were having this conversation where we both were in a place where, after you’ve accomplished anything, after the accomplishment is over, you’re new again. There’s always a thing of as you grow older, you’re constantly being questioned about whether you are still in touch with what’s hot, and even if you are, it’s just assumed that you aren’t, so we were forced into a place where we were the only people who believed what we were saying. After “Happy” took off, he was like ‘Look man, I know you are frustrated and I need someone I trust music and tastewise here. If that’s something you’re interested in, we can just start something.’ It was kind of a no-brainer for me, because it was like what else is there for me to do but start something new? The fact that it’s called I am OTHER made it cool, because it was like it could be anything. We get to do a lot of fun stuff. It’s cool because we know each other, and understand our intent and the goal. It’s cool to work with Pharrell because he also understands why it’s important for me to be creative on this side and express that on the DJ side. For Complex Con we did an I am OTHER set with all the artists and I dj’d the set as kind of a Music Director. There’s a picture that we got that I put on my Instagram that I love because it’s the entire crew on one stage and being up there, but in the background where I enjoy being, but still being a part — it was just a really cool thing. As a crew and as a company everybody around us is really talented and it’s amazing to be in an environment where that’s cool. What Prather is describing sounds like a dream job, and that’s exactly what it’s become for him. In his role he’s constantly working with Pharrell as well as their young artists, who include Kap G, Bia and Buddy. “The roster — it’s shapeshifting,” KP admits when we ask him about the artists who work with the collective. ” I signed Kap G when I was at Atlantic, but when I left we were able to do a partnership with I Am Other and Atlantic so I’m still able to work with him. We have an artist named Buddy who has a song out right now called “Shine” that’s digitally blowing up. It’s one of those positive inspiring songs. We have an artist Bia, she was just on a #1 Spanish record called “Safari” that Pharrell produced, and her record is about to come it out. Watch the Duck is about to drop, we just did a partnership with Interscope for them, they have a smash record called “Where You Are” that I can’t wait to come out. We have a lot of talented people doing musically acrobatic things — they all kinda land though. Last year KP won a Grammy as part of the songwriting team behind Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright.” We asked him about the controversy over Beyoncé losing out on Album of the Year honors to Adele. “Ironically I’m really aware of the process,” Prather said of the Grammy’s. “It honestly has come down to — our artists and producers don’t get involved, so the votes are by people who step up, and a lot of times those are the older members, those who have moved on from the vanity of it and they’re now in it for a community. We from the hip-hop and r&b community, you know black music, we have to step up and make our voices heard — if we care. I’ve heard people say they don’t care ‘it’s just a trophy.’ It’s one of those things, if you care, which I do, because I think it’s dope that you can be voted for and by your peers, people that are in your industry so they understand the work. Once we start producing and getting money, we gotta look at how we get on as a whole. If you look at the crowd that’s the audience of the Grammy’s — that’s the voting population of the Grammy’s. Definitely something to think about — riiight? We couldn’t let KP go without asking him if he had any advice for Pharrell being a father of four himself. “We just had this conversation,” KP told BOSSIP. “He hit a buzzer beater and tied the game. I don’t have any advice for triplets. His four is different from me having four. Honestly, Pharrell is a good dude and that usually translates into being a good dad. How he’s been with Rocket and his family in general, he’s one of those people who is so aware that he just handles those things really well. I think his wife Helen is a superhero for being able to pull that off.” If you’d like to keep up on what’s next for KP you can follow him on Instagram and Twitter @kawanprather The Global Spin Awards airs Thursday February 23, 2017 at 10:00pm ET/7:00pm ET, exclusively on REVOLT
Christina El Moussa went head-to-head with Tarek El Moussa this morning. Both halves of the estranged couple – who still hosts Flip or Flop on HGTV together, despite their December divorce filing – appeared on quasi news programs, speaking for the first time publicly about their split. Christina, for instance, appeared as a guest on Good Morning America, generally referring to the tabloid chatter that’s been surrounding the reality stars of late and saying: “There’s a lot of false stories and a lot of hype, but in the end we’re just normal, nice people who just want to be the best parents and coworkers that we can be.” Tarek and Christina are parents to an 18-month old named Brayden and a six-year old named Taylor. Speaking to The Today Show, Tarek reiterated the former couple’s commitment to their kids. “We have to make sure we remain friendly because we have to make sure they have good parents,” Tarek says in the following clip: Tarek El Moussa Explains Gun Incident: What Was He Thinking?!? Christina, meanwhile, is also featured on the cover of this week’s People Magazine. She goes into detail about her and Tarek’s break-up for the first time within this issue’s pages. “Like any couple, we had our share of issues,” Christina tells the publication . “But we went through a lot in a short amount of time.” She and Tarek separated in May following a scary incident that involved an argument, a gun and the police . The news of their separation went public a few months later, at which time they issued a joint statement that made it seem as if they were on solid terms. “Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage,” the pair said in December, adding: “We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed.” Flip or Flop launched on HGTV in 2013. Not long afterward, Tarek learned he had thyroid cancer. As he went through radiation treatment, Christina also started a difficult struggle to get pregnant via in vitro fertilization and suffered a miscarriage in 2014. Little Brayden was then born, and Christina returned to work just four weeks later. “It was too soon for me,” she tells People. “I was overwhelmed. The tension between me and Tarek was high. “We weren’t able to properly communicate anymore. It got to the point where we weren’t even driving to set together.” By the time the El Moussas confirmed their split to the public, they had been living apart for six months. So the announcement felt like a “weight” had been lifted off Christina, she says. View Slideshow: Christina El Moussa Photos: Flip or Flop Hotness! What about talk that she’s now sleeping with Gary Anderson , the family’s ex-contractor? “Tarek and I don’t discuss each other’s personal lives,” she says. “It is what it is and we are going through a divorce and eventually we will be dating other people. I’m happy for him and whatever steps he takes in his life and I just hope he’s happy.” As for the most important people in all this? The stars’ two young children? Says Christina: “Our kids are amazing … Our kids are transitioning well. “Tarek and I are friends and we have a lot of support from our family. The kids are doing great.” For more from Christina on how she’s dealing with divorce in the spotlight, co-parenting and still working with her ex, Tarek, pick up this week’s issue of People. To say that Angelina Jolie has had a rough few months would be a major understatement. She filed for divorce from her longtime love, Brad Pitt, after a suspicious incident, and since then, she’s been widely perceived to be the bad guy in the split. Brad has stated in court documents that he believes she’s exploiting their children to get ahead in the custody battle, and reports claim that she’s had multiple meltdowns recently. But this weekend, Angelina sat down for an interview with BBC World News. And for the first time, she’s opening up about the divorce. And she sounds pretty reasonable and level-headed to us. About the divorce itself , she said “i don’t want to say very much about that, except to say it was a very difficult time and … and we are a family and we will always be a family, and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it. “Many, many people find themselves in this situation,” she went on. “My whole, my family … we’ve all been through a difficult time.” “My focus is my children, our children … and my focus is finding this way through. We are and forever will be a family. I am coping with finding a way through to make sure that this somehow makes us stronger and closer.” She said that “It’s been a difficult few months,” but “Right now, I’m going through a moment when just everybody’s in my room. Two dogs, two hamsters and two children at the moment. It’s wonderful.” “But, usually, I just wake up trying to figure out who’s going to get the dog out, who’s doing to start the pancakes and did anybody brush their teeth.” Then Angelina was asked about where she saw herself in five years, and she joked “At this stage, I hope I’m just standing.” In five years, her six children will range in age from 20 years old to 13, so yeah, we imagine “just standing” is a pretty reasonable goal. She continued “In five years’ time I would like to be traveling around the world visiting my children, hoping that they’re just happy and doing really interesting things, and I imagine in many different parts of the world, and I’ll be supporting them.” “Everything I do I hope is that I represent something, and I represent the right things to my children, and give them the right sense of what they’re capable of, and the world as it should be seen.” “Not through the prism of Hollywood,” she said, “or through a certain kind of life, but really take them into the world, where they have a really good sense and become rounded people.” So Angelina sounds pretty good, right? Not at all like the unhinged woman we’ve been hearing about in the tabloids. And thank goodness for that. View Slideshow: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt: A Romance Retrospective
