Source: David Livingston / Getty Tonight’s episode of Basketball Wives starts with Tami and her business partner, and shoe designer, Jessica Rich going over prototypes for Tami’s shoe line. And then OG walks in. Tami invited her because she wants to make sure she’s okay after that brunch. That’s the real reason they’re there. Tami said she’s disappointed in how the brunch went. Obviously, OG is happy to have at least one person in her corner. I other news, Jennifer meets up with Kristen to deliver a letter for her to give to Shaunie. We don’t know what’s in the letter, but basically, Jenn says she’s ready to take some accountability for her messed up actions. Now we’re at Byron and CeCe’s engagement party. Everything looks nice. Malaysia and Jackie come through, and CeCe is happy to see them. However, Malaysia is bummed that Kristen and her husband aren’t there because she feels like their feud with CeCe is killing her family. And guess what, OG ends up showing up later. Malaysia decides to take this time, because it’s the most appropriate moment, to confront OG. Basically, Malaysia tells her that Byron said he never told her to tell that secret. In Malaysia’s mind, OG said that Byron told her to tell everyone. In reality, Byron told OG that it’s okay to talk about it because people already know. There is a difference. Malaysia says it’s the same thing. OG says it’s not. They go in circles for a second, but Malaysia surprisingly decides to shut this conversation down so they can talk another time. Now we’re at Shaunie’s house for her son’s 16th birthday party. The house looks kind of like the house from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air , so that’s the party theme. But the meat of this moment is that Kristen pulls Shaunie aside to give her Jenn’s letter. Shaunie decides to read it in front of Evelyn and Jackie. Basically, Jenn wrote some fluff about how it was nice to see her at her other son’s party, but it’s still a non-apology. Despite that, it’s enough for Shaunie to consider inviting Jenn on their upcoming girls trip to San Diego. Evelyn is definitely not feeling that, but we all know Shaunie is going to invite Jenn. Tami finally reveals that she and Reggie are married. She had a cute little party at her house to make the announcement. Everyone seemed happy for her, even Jackie, who was mad at her but also happy at the same time. You know how Jackie does. Let’s fast forward to San Diego. We find the group headed there in two separate cars. Jenn is present with her friend, Dominique, because she needs at least one person on her side. Feby, Shaunie, and Evelyn ride in one car and the rest, minus Tami, are in the other car. When it comes up that Jenn brought Dominique, it turns out that Evelyn and Dominique don’t like each other either (so, Jenn knew what she was doing). Ev’s group arrives first. The second group of women arrives shortly after and Evelyn gets annoyed at the sight of Jenn from jump. They manage to pick rooms without a hitch and tonight’s episode ends on a low-key note, but next week, the turnup cometh. Evelyn and Jenn are going to get into it for the 1,422,343,415,251 time. This topic is pertinent because new details have emerged in regard to Amber’s arrest; namely that she’s accused of wielding a machete while trying to break into her home’s bathroom in order to continue her (alleged) attack against boyfriend Andrew Glennon… … who was holding the couple’s child, James, in his arms at the time. YIKES, right? Glennon feared his life and his toddler’s life were both in danger and he has since filed for full custody of James. So this question isn’t some hypothetical. It’s an issue that will soon be taken up by a judge in court. I’m aware that she’s battled mental illness and many who are close to the troubled Teen Mom OG star swear they’ve witnessed considerable improvement in recent years. But assaulting your significant other with a deadly weapon would be a dealbreaker even if it were the first time that Amber had ever engaged in this sort of behavior. We know it’s not, of course, as Portwood’s violent tendencies have resulted in numerous brushes with the law over the years. It’s always a sad thing when a child is taken away from his mother. However, for the time being, at least, Amber’s mental state has rendered her incapable of providing a safe and stable environment for any child. They may argue that she’ll “learn her lesson,” whatever that means, after this Andrew Glennon incident. My question, though, is this: What lesson could this possibly teach that Amber could not have learned from her previous criminal history, which included actual time served in jail? Amber had her chance to learn. She apparently didn’t glean much from it. Why throw away another chance on her? Especially because this isn’t about whether or not she deserves the happiness of motherhood or whatever. This is about what is best for baby James, who deserves his best shot in life. Someone who allegedly beats and batters their loved one while that loved one is holding a child is not a fit parent — or a good parent. Sometimes, the best way to escape from vicious cycles that get passed down in families is just to escape from toxic members of the family itself. James deserves a real life in a safe and loving environment. That’s what matters. NO by Hilton Hater I base my answer around this literal question: Should Portwood lose custody of James? As in: Should she permanently lose custody of her very young son? This is not some casual topic about which one should speculate or ruminate based on a few celebrity gossip website headlines. This may seem obvious to state, but it’s a really huge deal to take a child away from his or her biological mother. Such a legal decision can only be made under the most dire or extreme circumstances. My colleagues above all argue that allegedly using a giant sword as part of an attack against one’s significant other, with one’s infant kid very much caught up in the middle, would qualify as dire or extreme . But I have two counters here: 1. Portwood has been diagnosed as bipolar. 2. She has no history of violence against her kids. And the Winner is? YES! Click Here To Vote for YES! NO! View Poll » Both of these points are relevant when talking about the extreme step of stripping her custody away entirely. Yes, she needs to go to therapy. Yes, she probably needs to go to jail. Yes, she must share custody with Glennon. And, yes, she absolutely needs to be fired from Teen Mom so she no longer faces the pressure of answering to fans or cameramen. I’m by no means advocating to simply shrug off this arrest or the incident that preceded it. I’m simply sharing the compromises available in this situation, the alternative ways in which James can be kept safe… Amber can receive the help she clearly needs… and yet she can do so while remaining an integral part of her son’s life. Because, let’s face it, it’s easy to read a few articles, leap up on to a soapbox and proclaim that Portwood should stay as far away from her kid as possible. But it’s a lot harder to put this opinion into practice — as it should be. There’s a reason why judges are the ones who must make these very difficult decision, not content creators who sit at home all day and think they know best. No offense, fellas. I still love you.

Given Nip’s many business holdings, there is a lot at stake and Lauren London is making sure their son, Kross, will benefit from his late father’s efforts. The Blast reports : According to documents obtained by The Blast, London filed to establish guardianship of her 2-year-old son, Kross Asghedom. London writes that Kross is “anticipated to inherit approximately One Million Dollars at the close of” Nipsey Hussle’s estate. The actress writes that she is the person taking care of the minor child, and will look out for his “best interests” as he receives the lucrative inheritance from his deceased father. According to the Chicago Sun-Times , prosecutors described the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer as “an extreme danger to the community, especially to minor girls” during a hearing in U.S. District Court in Chicago. The prosecutors also made sure to point out the extreme risk of Kelly obstructing justice. Part of the new charges he was hit with include allegations of paying off the families of accusers so they wouldn’t cooperate with the authorities . Kelly’s lawyer went with the there’s no way his client can flee because he’s broke play. “Unlike his most famous song — ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ — Mr. Kelly doesn’t like to fly,” Greenberg reportedly said. Well, the judge wasn’t having it. Kelly is currently being held in Chicago’s downtown Metropolitan Correctional Center. Right now, R. Kelly is facing 18 charges in Brooklyn and Chicago for various alleged crimes involving minors, including 10 victims. R. Kelly was acquitted of child pornography in 2008.

She seems to be rebutting the family’s contention she’s not capable of caring for the child, saying they are ignoring the fact Nipsey provided for her … setting her up in an apartment and providing for her livelihood. She’s insinuating she’s been cut off and that’s not what Nipsey would want. She also says, she’s not the only person involved in the case with a “problem past,” but she says she’s choosing not to “sling mud.” She says she can’t pay rent, she’s been cut off financially and is in desperate shape. Foster notes the lifestyle she and Emani were used to before Nipsey’s death won’t be the same … but she is willing to make it work to the best of her ability. She’s asking the judge to at least give her visitation rights. Foster says, “If everyone was truly interested in doing what is best for Emani, they would treat me as her mother and not in the manner that they have. Nipsey’s family was awarded temporary custody of Emani, claiming Tanisha is an unfit mother .

In spite of the countless injustices that have transpired since her death, it is impossible not to be haunted by Sandra’s story — not just for the sheer scope of its tragedy, but also for how regular she was. Sandra could have been any one of us. Four years later, racial tensions have only grown progressively worse in America. On this day, it’s important to reflect on the lessons we learned from Sandra, whose light and legacy can never be dimmed. Here is what Sandra has taught us: You Can Control Your Legacy Too often, Black victims of police brutality end up facing a trial in the public eye. Mainstream media often depicts them as somehow deserving of the horrendous treatment they received. But Sandra’s commitment to documenting her life meant that she was empowered to leave her own legacy and tell her own story beyond her death. Her vlog, #SandySpeaks, gave us all the chance to get to know how she lived rather than just how she died. She could not be erased. Furthermore, her family’s activism beyond her death has left a profound impact on today’s civil rights movement . The tragedy they experienced spurned them into action. And those actions are proof of the impact she had on their lives. Respectability Politics Won’t Save Us Black people are often told that what they wear, how they speak, and what they do can somehow save them from racism. It is one of the great myths of modern society. It’s hard to think of a more “respectable” person than Sandra. She was an educated, accomplished, beautiful woman. She was getting ready to begin a new career. She had a promising future. And still, she died in police custody under extremely mysterious circumstances. According to a recent report in the The Guardian , “based on the latest national figures available from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, 4,980 prisoners in US correctional facilities died in 2014, a nearly 3% increase from 2013. In addition, in state prisons, the mortality rate was 275 for every 100,000 people, the highest since data collection began in 2001.” We have to stop holding Black people to standards that we believe will save us in a system that is failing to protect us. Trayvon Martin did not die because of his hoodie. Alton Sterling didn’t die because of his previous issues with the law. Education and career choice couldn’t save Sandra or Philando Castile . They were victims of a racist system that needs to be changed. It’s Not Only Black Men Who Are In Danger The #SayHerName movement has been around for some time, but it was Sandra’s death, along with female victims like Korryn Gaines , Natasha McKenna , Rekia Boyd , and Kindra Chapman that thrust it into the national dialogue. But if Sandra is proof of anything, it’s that we have a long way to go. Were it not for social media and the tireless efforts of her family, we may never have known her name. It’s not hard to imagine just how many female victims remain ghosts in the public persona. Black women are one of the world’s most marginalized populations and we can no longer operate under the illusion that just because we aren’t hearing about it, it’s not happening. Source: Kevin Winter / Getty Mother of Nipsey Hussle’s Daughter Claims His Family Has Cut Her Off Since His Passing According to The Blast , the mother of Nipsey Hussle ‘s 10-year-old daughter claims his family has kicked her out of the apartment he used to rent for her and cut all ties with her. Tanisha Foster filed a motion in the guardianship case of her daughter, Emani Asghedom. She disputing the joint guardianship petition filed by Nipsey’s immediate family. “I strongly oppose both of the petitions filed by Samantha Alexandria Smith, Samiel Asghedom and Angelique Smith,” Foster says. “I am the other of Emani Asghedom and there is no good reason my rights as her mother should be taken away from me, or otherwise reduced as her mother.” Foster claims she and Nipsey “always shared the responsibility of parenting Emani.” Since his murder, she has “had to depend on the goodwill of family and friends for my food, clothing, shelter and transportation. Ermias had always provided for these needs up until his date of death.” She says the Nip “also gave me substantial sums of cash that I used for the benefit of Emani and myself.” But all that has since been cut off after his passing and his family has decided to cut ties with Foster in every aspect.
