Carl Ruiz, Former Food Network Star, Dead at 44

Awful news today out of the world of reality television and cooking: Carl Ruiz, a well-known chef who appeared on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and more of Guy Fieri’s programs, has died in his sleep. He was 44 years old. The tragic news was confirmed on Sunday by social media personality Matt Farah, who was close to Ruiz and who announced that his friend passed away on Saturday night from a heart attack. “I’m heartbroken that my friend chef Carl Ruiz is gone,” Fieri tweeted after the news went public. He added: “I have no words to describe what a great friend he was to me and my family. His ability to make me laugh and smile under any circumstances was only outshined by his talent as a chef. “Over the years, I’ve met a lot of great people but a friend like Carl is one in a hundred million. Carl ’The Cuban’ Ruiz will forever live on in my heart and in those of all who loved him.” Ruiz’s family restaurant — Marie’s Italian Specialties in Chatham Township, New Jersey — was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives twice over the past few years. Carl was later hired to appear on Fieri’s shows Guy’s Grocery Games and Guy’s Ranch Kitchen. The two chefs became very close as a result. In June, Ruiz opened the restaurant La Cubana in New York City, from whose Instagram account there was posted a tribute earlier today. “On behalf of the La Cubana family, with heavy hearts, we are deeply saddened to share the passing of our beloved Executive Chef Carl Ruiz,” the post read. It continued as follows: “No words can fully express our sadness at the sudden loss of our dear friend and brother. “Beyond his immense culinary talent, Carl’s larger-than-life personality never failed to entertain, enlighten, and uplift every person he encountered along his #Ruizing adventures. His fierce intellect and infectious humor knew no bounds. “He was a mighty force of down home Cuban cuisine, and lived life to the fullest, just as he cooked—with ‘dancing always’ as the most important ingredient.” This is how that in memoriam message concluded: Here at La Cubana, Carl paid proud tribute to his Cuban roots each night, and it is here that Carl’s legacy, undeniable spirit and passion for his culture will live on. We hope we make you proud, Carlito. To honor the work you loved so much Chef, La Cubana will continue your work in establishing The Carl Ruiz Scholarship Foundation for aspiring chefs. We love you! You are already missed. Rest easy. And here is how Guys Grocery Games and Guy’s Ranch Kitchen star Eric Greenspan saluted his late pal: “RIP Carl Ruiz,” Eric Greenspan wrote on Instagram, adding: “You hear it a lot, but never could it be more true. The world is significantly worse without you. Heaven doesnt know what just hit it.” Fellow Food Network star Alex Guarnaschelli tweeted: “This man was somehow fatherly, comforting, wise, reckless, brilliant, wickedly funny & unique all in 1. My life will be lonelier without him. Love you Carl. “I’ll make sure no one puts pineapple on pizza best I can without you here. #rip @carlruiz.” “Remember how Carl would sometimes say, ‘That’s it I’m leaving Twitter forever’? Then he would be back on 2 hours later with an update: a hotdog from somewhere special & a cackle of glee?” she added. “Carl was a great cook & shared every moment of his life with us & I already miss it. #rip” May he rest in peace. BOSSIP Exclusives: Netflix Style Stars Jason Bolden And Adair Curtis Open Up About “Styling Hollywood”

Source: Courtesy Netflix / Courtesy Netflix “Styling Hollywood” Is A Netflix Classic Last month Netflix debuted “Styling Hollywood ,” an ultra chic, but proudly black docuseries, following the lives of Jason Bolden and Adair Curtis, an insanely talented couple who run the JSN Studios design company — where Bolden styles Hollywood celebs including Mindy Kaling, Ava Duvernay, Taraji P. Henson, Yara Shahidi, Storm Reid and a gang of other lovely leading ladies and Curtis oversees interior design projects for stars like Dulé Hill and Sanaa Lathan. Our Senior Director of Content Janeé Bolden binged the entire series the weekend it was released and sat down with the happy couple to discuss. Check out her interview below! Janeé Bolden: How you decided who to actually feature on the show?(Henson, Shahidi, Reid, Duvernay, Lathan and the Hills all make appearances, while some clients were mentioned via photos or video b-roll) Jason Bolden: It was the middle of the awards season and a lot of people were working or traveling, so a lot of it was the people who had a window of time and were available. Everything was happening in real time. Seeing Taraji the day of the Emmys was happening in real time. View this post on Instagram Mid sentence per use…Milano nights w/ my 1&Only + our @prada family A post shared by Adair Curtis (@adair_curtis) on Sep 18, 2019 at 12:37pm PDT Janeé: You guys are an African-American gay couple, not exactly what we see on TV much at all. How did that factor into you guys wanting to tell your story? Jason: Hashtag #DoubleBlack! Adair: In the beginning, and even up until we started doing press, it’s always in the back of your mind, you’re cognizant of it, that it is not often that you see yourself represented, or scenarios of people who look like you so much or have backgrounds like you, so much. So it was important to us to be portrayed in our truest form, in our truest light and to give audiences a glimpse of what our life is like. We’re just like everyone else. Janeé: Yes you are, but way more fabulous! Better access, better cars, way cuter dog, way more access to dope closets and interiors as well. All that aside, you’re both very busy… How did you make time for production? Video production is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a production… That part didn’t get frustrating at all? Adair: Yeah that part was hard. It was something we had to adjust to, because our work schedules are very hectic and we work around the clock. Sometimes I had to film by myself because Jason was working, he had to be on location somewhere or on a set with somebody or at a fitting. And then even vice versa. Jason had to film while I was at a site meeting or I may have been in meetings or designing … It was something we had to adjust to but the family just got used to it. Janeé: If you guys get to do another season, and I hope you do, will we get to see more of your job Adair? I feel like the Hill house took up the bulk of the season in terms of what we saw of your work. We saw Sanaa’s Air BnB, we saw you furniture shopping with Gabrielle Union, but outside of that we saw a lot of Jason during awards season. Adair: Yeah it’s hard to please everybody the crazy thing, or the factual thing about interiors is that things take a long time. Renovations take a long time. While Jason could outfit someone quickly and you can get this on film quickly, we can start a renovation in December and not finish until the next December and when you have a window to fit something in that’s what you do. If we get a second season. we will show the interior work, because Jason is involved in that too and you don’t get to see that so much. Our dynamic of how we work together on interiors. I’m hoping we get to show more of that too. Hit the flip to continue.

Abby Lee Miller: I Was 10 Minutes From DEATH!

After well over a year of surguries, painful treatments, and intense physical therapy, Abby Lee Miller was able to walk again this month. Those few steps were a major accomplishment, and only now is Miller revealing how bad things truly got. Before her emergency surgery, she wasn’t just at risk of death — she was dying . Abby Lee Miller spoke to HollywoodLife at the Creative Arts Emmys. “I lived,” she begins, really setting the tone for how dire her situation was. Before surgery, Miller reveals, “the doctor said ‘we have 10 minutes or we are going to lose her.’” “And that is how close to death I was,” she grimly explains. Burkitt Lymphoma may have a high survival rate, but only among those who catch it in time. With Miller, it was a very close call for what doctors initially assumed was a mere infection. “This spinal cord injury, choking my spinal cord and all of that,” Miller says, came close to claiming her life. Even once she was out of the proverbial woods in that respect, she reveals, she remained paralyzed. “I can take just a few steps with the walker,” Miller detailed. Famously, she took a few steps on stage on The Doctors . We have included that video in this post. “I yell at friends all the time when I get frustrated and upset,” Miller admits. She explains: “I am like ‘why did you not just let me die? Dying’s easy, you just lay there, you know this is hard, it’s tough.’” Miller has expressed how her cancer battle made her want to die in the past. “And,” she continues. “They said ‘he did not give us a choice, he just said I am going in and we said oh, okay.’” Unless you have a DNR, that’s just how it goes. “I guess I have some more dreams to fulfill,” Miller reflects. “I have other things that I want to do,” she expresses. “And,” Miller reveals. “Doing other shows I am creating.” “And you know there is always a kid who needs to straighten their legs and point their feet,” Miller reasons. There’s the Miller we know and … know. Finding purpose in life through terrorizing children into dancing properly. “I was at the California Rehabilitation Institute. It’s amazing,” she says of her intense therapy to walk again. Miller shares: “It’s fabulous and you have therapy four times a day, four hours a day, every day, Saturday, and Sunday included.” “Now once they release you and your insurance says ‘that’s it’, then you’re an out patient and you go for an hour, three times a week,” she adds. “So you spend an hour getting there, you do it for an hour, and then you leave for an hour,” Miller admits. “And it’s really not the same intensity.” Even famous people have to deal with our absurd and nightmarish healthcare system. But through hard work, a refusal to give up, and expert care, Miller is alive and making improvements in her mobility. Her doctors have admitted that she has missed some screenings, but say that she is cancer-free. That is good news. Whatever we may think of her as a human being, no one deserves cancer. Scott Disick Explodes at Corey Gamble for Threat to Whip Daughter

We rarely take the same side as Scott Disick. He has always seemed rich, spoiled, entitled and never fully appreciative of Kourtney Kardashian. But this clip from Keeping Up with the Kardashian has us fully cheering on Team Lord, considering what Corey Gamble says about the reality star's daughter, Penelope. The drama kicks off when Kourtney reveals to some of her loved one  that her nanny quit after her middle child with Scott “scratched her face,” saying of the six-year old: “You guys, I don't have a nanny anymore,” she tells them, explaining what transpired as follows: “She said P was really upset. She was putting her in the car and Penelope scratched her face. But, P can be out of control. I think she almost blacks out and does these wild things.” Ummm… she blacks out and does wild things? That sounds like a major problem, Kourtney. Kris Jenner mostly agrees, telling her daughter in this sneak peek that she ought to take this development seriously. “I had six kids. Not one time in my entire life did anyone ever have a complaint like this,” the Kardashian-Jenner matriarch says. Kourtney responds by saying she has no real recourse because there's nothing material she can take away from Penelope. And this is when Jenner's boyfriend, Corey Gamble, steps in with some polarizing advice. “I'm sorry, but if P scratched me for no reason, I'm whipping her ass and I'll explain it to y'all later,” Corey says. “What? You would whoop Penelope's ass if she scratched you?” Scott responds in disbelief. Gamble doesn't back down here. He doubles down, in fact, reiterating what he says above, to which Disick fires back: “My daughter? What the hell are you talking about? You would whoop my daughter's ass if she touched you? A little six-year-old girl? What the f–k are you talking about? Stop it!” Whether or not you think spanking is proper punishment for a child, one must admit that someone who isn't the child's parent likely should not be making this sort of threat. “You're not going to beat my little daughter! Get the f-ck out of here,” Disick concludes in this footage. Check out another clip from this Sunday's brand-new episode HERE and then check out this Disick-Gamble exchange. Keeping Up With the Kardashians will air on Sunday at 9/8c on E!.

Jenelle Evans Has Sold a Grand Total of 150 Eyebrow Kits

While the world continues to mourn poor little Nugget, the family bulldog David Eason shot and murdered a few weeks ago, we’ve now learned that something else close to the heart of Jenelle Evans may soon be dead: Her recently-launched makeup line. According to a new report, JE Cosmetics is bascially already a bust. As previously detailed, Evans launched this new business about a week ago . The eyebrow kit, which hilariously retails for $40, is meant to provide income for Jenelle and her family, with the embattled former reality star clearly hoping to strike it rich in this industry, just like billionaire Kylie Jenner. After several days of her product on the market, however, Evans may be closer to asking Kylie for a loan than actually being Kylie… based on the very slow sales. A source involved in Jenelle’s makeup busines has told Radar Online that Evans has only sold 150 kits since the launch earlier this month. On the official company website, customers are still able to purchase up to 2,822 eyebrow kits, which may indicate the amount of products still available — and which would therefore mean that Jenelle only moved about 5% of her inventory in a month. Ouch . “They will be doing more advertising and getting a better shipper,” this insider tells Radar, remarking on Jenelle’s plans to turn her business around. This may be a challenge, however, considering the online response to those that actually sold. “The brow pencil completely snapped off within a minute of using it, no matter how short I made it, it would snap off,” a Twitter review of the eyebrow kits reads. It concludes: “There was 1 inch of product in it to begin with, now there is none. Complete waste.” Teen Mom Young: & Pregnant star Ashley Jones, meanwhile, claimed she would review the product herself — but later opted out doing so because due to of color options. “I will NOT be buying Jenelle’s brow kit cause it only comes in 1 color and none of them are dark enough for my brows,” she Tweeted. “So, sorry guys.” Jenelle — whose kit is comprised of a brow wand, enhancement highlighter, brow powder and stay put wax — celebrated the business launch with an event during New York Fashion Week on Monday, September 9. She sounded pretty psyched about the company’s future at the time. “I’m just really happy that I can come out with something that can be universal for everyone,” Evans told Us Weekly at the opening, adding: “They don’t have to go match their shade. They can just by one kit and be done with it — and have everything they need.” To be clear, JE Cosmetics actually launched in 2017. The Instagram page promoted liquid lipstick and lip liner back then. However, Jenelle never really focused or promoted it because of her committment to Teen Mom 2. Now that she’s been fired , though? Due to all the ways in which she and Eason are awful parents? Jenelle has time to exploit her daughter (below) and try to sell her eyebrow kit to fans, assuming she actually has any, that is.  Getting her glam on , wrote Jenelle as a caption to this photo of young Ensley, tagging JE Cosmetics in the photo. “I was trying to groom my eyebrows and I knew that I used the pencil a lot,” explained Evans to Us Weekly of the motivation for this product, concluding: “[But I] sometimes used powder and then I had to go get wax for it. “And I was like, why didn’t someone just put this all in one kit? Then I wouldn’t need to go searching for it!” The good news here is that Eason has started BlackRiverMetalnWood on Etsy, selling handmade leather key chains and bracelets that range from $25 to $45. He also makes daggers for $65. The bad news for the couple? He’s only made 12 sales. View Slideshow: Jenelle Evans: David Killing My Dog Brought Us Closer Together!

Emma Rose Kenney Titty Bounce of the Day

Emma Rose Kenney is the fat daughter who I think was a teen mom on Shameless. That William Macy show that allowed him to bribe his kids into college and blame his wife…. I have seen a few episodes of the show, I found it obnoxious. If anything it was cultural appropriation, not that white trash has culture but is still a culture… Hollywood rich people basically mocking poor drunk addicts, making a big fucking joke about it, like it’s so funny to see people suffering from the system in which we live in, and that they have no idea what it is actually like from their cushy mansions… Putting on meth scars, and mocking living failure, sex work, stealing for drugs and all that other shit, all while EMMY ROSSUM’s rich cunt face pretends to hold the family together. It’s just fucking dumb. Not to mention, they threw every obscure degenerate shock value concept into the show’s storyline, to prove how “edgy” and “out there” they are… They’ve covered everything short of Necrophilia in the least compelling way. Things like “Drunk Guy gets dick stuck in blender during a Homeless challenge, while his teen daughter is pregnant with what they think is his child thanks to one night on opiates, only to discover the baby is born black so it’s not from his molesting but rather from her high school dance she only went to because she wanted to support her gay brother’s dance routine before he gets shipped off to the Army while the other brother is caught fucking a motorcycle cuz he’s now sober and loves motorcycles so much he’s a mechanic “… Or whatever goes on on that dumb fucking show….that has made this one exist and allows her to sow us that she understands the importance of her tits and how it applies to social media content…so here they are bouncing. I’ve never found her hot, but you don’t need to be hot to have tits worth jerking off to. That is not to say these tits are worth jerking off to….but they are worth looking at according to me and since this is my site I’m posting it. JOIN THE NEWSLETTER YOU ASSHOLES! Duggar Hurricane Relief Efforts: Did They Do More Harm Than Good?

While the United States was spared the brunt of Hurricane Dorian's impact after a close call, the storm brought utter devastation to the Bahamas, which may never fully recover from the impact. As a result, many who were loaded up and ready to assist in the clean-up efforts in Florida (or Alabama, if you went by President Donald John Trump's forecast), decided to set out for the Bahamas instead. Among those who made the trip were several members of the Duggar family, the controversial TLC reality stars turned humanitarians. And while assisting with hurricane relief efforts is generally a rather admirable pursuit, just about every project the Duggars undertake is motivated by their endless pursuit of the almighty dollar. Now, an investigation by some of their  critics say their Bahamas trip was no different – and they may have done more harm than good during their time in the ravaged nation. Take a look: 1. The Team Jason, James, John David, and Jana Duggar all made the trip, along with their brother-in-law Austin Forsyth. As you can see, the oft-maligned Jana Duggar didn’t make the cut for the group photo. 2. Odd Woman Out Many fans were upset that the Duggars seemed to be downplaying the contributions of the only female volunteer – especially since this particular female seems to spend all her time supporting her family members while getting none of the attention or credit. But those Jana-related complaints soon gave way to even more troubling concerns. 3. Keeping Mum Typically, something like volunteering as part of a hurricane relief effort is something that the Duggars would go on crowing about for months – admirable, and positive PR for a family that needs it. 4. All Is Not Well But if you follow them on social media, you’ve likely noticed that they’re strangely quiet aboug their time in the Bahamas. It’s like they were never there. Why is this, you ask? 5. Austin Comes Home Joy-Anna Duggar posted this picture to celebrate Austin’s return just a few days after he left for the Bahamas, and as far as we can tell, the trip was never mentioned again by her or anyone else. 6. Helping or Hurting? The reason for this unexpected silence is not that the Duggars decided, for once, to be humble about their “humanitarian” efforts. Rather, the lack of discussion about it appears to be prompted by the fact that, by all accounts, their time in the Bahamas was a disaster. View Slideshow

Javi Marroquin & Lauren Comeau: We’re Officially Back Together!

Well, that didn’t take long. Just weeks after she caught Javi Marroquin cheating on her in her own home, Lauren Comeau seems ready to forgive and forget. Earlier this month, we reported that Lauren had moved back in with Javi . (Understandably, she retreated to her home state of Maine after catching her fiance banging one of his CrossFit students in their bathroom.) Now, the couple has taken another step toward reconciliation by making their relationship Instagram official. Javi posted the pic below on Instagram this week. At first glance, it may seem to be nothing more than a precious moment featuring his 1-year-old son witn Lauren. But on closer inspection, you’ll notice that those are Lauren’s hands helping little Eli with his first steps. Javi captioned the pic, “Cherish these moments.” Clearly, he believes there are some moments in life during which relationship strife and other stressors must be set aside so that one can be fully present in the moment. Javi probably takes a similar view of illicit bathroom assignations, but that’s a conversation for another time. Anyway, as much as Teen Mom 2 fans might have preferred that Javi finally be held accountable for his actions, it seems he’s been let off the hook yet again. “Lauren is back home,” a source confirmed to Radar. “They are trying to work on things.” Judging by her Instrgam page, it seems that Lauren has been back in Dover for at least two weeks, meaning she was very quick to give Javi a second chance. However, many fans have pointed out that she’s still not wearing her engagement ring, as evidenced by the photo above. Obviously, this is not the first time that Marroquin has been unfaithful. He allegedly cheated on Kailyn Lowry numerous times during their brief marriage. And yet, the father of two keeps worming his way back into the good graces of the women in his life. How is this possible? Well, it seems the phenomenon is at least partially due to the fact that Javi has mastered the art of the schmaltzy, melodramatic apology. “Lauren, I’m sorry for my mistakes, I’m sorry I broke your heart, I’m sorry I disrespected you,” he wrote in an open letter posted to his Instagram page shortly after his latest cheating scandal went public. “I’m sorry I took you for granted. I could say sorry for a million other things but I’m sorry will never be enough,” Marroquin continued. “I will do everything in my power to become a better man and hopefully one day you can forgive me,” he added. “I’ll do anything to have you home.” Some would argue that he should have worked on that “becoming a better man” business after the last time he got caught cheating, but we digress. Elsewhere in the letter, Javi turned his attention to his two young sons: “I failed you as a father and failed at my attempt to show you both what it is to be a man,” he wrote. “I promise you both my actions will not reflect on how you will treat women, let alone the one you love.” It may not seem like Javi has been the greatest role model to his sons, but he may be useful as an example of what not to do: Don’t cheat on your fiance; don’t make private matters public, and — most importantly — never get into CrossFit. It’s basically Scientology for fitness bros.

Audrey Roloff Mourns Friend’s Suicide, Shares Inspiring Message

Little People, Big World star and social media mainstay Audrey Roloff has been through a great deal over the past few days. By her own candid admission. In a revealing and heart-shattering new Instagram post, the TLC reality personality explains why she’s been going through some hard times. Or some “pretty intense roses and thorns,” as she and husband Jeremy Roloff sometimes say on their podcast. The main reason why? She has lost a friend named Jarrid Wilson to suicide. “On Ember’s 2nd birthday we found out that our friend Jarrid took his own life,” wrote Audrey online, adding in awful detail: “It was shocking and absolutely heart-breaking news. I couldn’t breathe when I found out and sobbed for hours.” “Ember saw my tears, “Sad mama?” We sat on the couch together and she kept giving my pats on my shoulder and saying: “It’s ok mama, no more crying, happy mama?” “When I kept crying she would wipe away my tears and say, “blow mama, blow” and she would show me how to blow just like I do with her when she’s upset. Cue more tears.” Seriously, now we’re crying. Audrey, who is expecting a boy in January 2020 , continued in her post: “Jarrid and his wife Juli have been such faithful encouragers and good friends since before we were married.” The 28-year-old Roloff continued: “As we’ve been crying, processing, and praying, we’ve felt all the emotions that come with loss – anger, confusion, hurt, shock, etc.” A woman of strong faith, Audrey then turned her focus to religion and how she has tried to cope with this tragedy: “This past week I just keep thinking about @itsjuliwilson and her two boys and praying in desperation.” Anyone who has experienced anything similarly tragic can  relate. “Praying that Lord would give those boys peace that surpasses understanding. That Juli would be flooded with prayer, love, encouraging truth, practical help, and compassion.” “That Jarrid’s life would be honored well.” “That people who struggle with anxiety, depression, and mental illness would not lose hope. And ultimately, that people who don’t struggle with mental illness would be compassionate.” At this point, much to our extreme admiration, Audrey wrote about the sort of troubles that inflict many people who take their own lives: Mental illnesss has a lot of stigma around it, unfortunately especially in the church. I think we can be better, especially in times of mourning, to be less critical and more compassionate. To be quicker to love than to judge. To be more like a two-year old comforting her mama. To be “compassionate and gracious, slow to anger; and abounding in love and faithfulness” (Psalm 86:15). And she concluded by first marveling over her daughter: While I was sitting on the couch with Ember mourning the loss of our friend, I realized how much more COMPASSIONATE my 2 year old is than most adults…⁣ And then by bidding her friend a sorrowful farewell: Sometimes people just need you to sit with them, wipe their tears, and blow. ⁣We love you Jarrid⁣. Well put, all around. We send our condolences to Jarrid, his family members, friends and loved ones.
