Kim Sozzi Ready To Release Self-Titled Second Album

Dance hitmaker calls ‘Little Bird’ Annie Lennox cover ‘a standout track.’ By Adam Stewart Kim Sozzi Photo: MTV News She’s an original Jersey Shore girl. She didn’t need to GTL or puff-her-poof before taking the stage at the legendary D’Jais nightclub in Belmar, New Jersey. All she needed was great music and her loyal fans. Kim Sozzi has always seemed to have a knack for that true Jersey Shore vibe. Growing up in Long Island, New York, and getting her start in the club scene, Sozzi is one of dance music’s most-iconic vocalists. Through various projects, labels and collaborations, she has maintained her position as one of underground dance music’s most-sought-after hitmakers, and after two years, is set to release her second studio album, the self-titled Kim Sozzi . While no official release date has been set, Sozzi assured MTV News that the album is complete and ready to go. “It’s totally different from my dance [music] and my previous singles,” Sozzi said. “I wanted to do something a little more mainstream. Hopefully my dance fans are going to follow me over, but if not, I have plenty of classic Kim Sozzi songs on the album.” After releasing “Rated R,” the album’s first single, back in December, Sozzi is gearing up to release the second track, “Little Bird,” a cover of the Annie Lennox classic. “I love, love, love this record. It came out great,” Sozzi gushed. “The guys from Beatport actually did the production. They did a killer job. This is definitely going to be a standout track on the album … It’s totally a song for the fans.” Produced by former Beatport staffers Brad Roulier and Shawn Sabo, known as Manufactured Superstars, “Little Bird” shows Sozzi at her best. With her distinctly sexy swagger and stunningly soulful vocal prowess accompanied by clean and crisp production from the Denver duo, this little birdie seems geared to fly up the charts. Sozzi has been a magnet for producers since she burst onto the scene back in 2001 with the epic Sound Factory NYC anthem “Feelin’ Me,” produced by Hex Hector and Jonathan Peters. She was launched almost instantly on a path to chart success, becoming a go-to for dance producers and topping the Billboard dance chart several times. In 2004, she joined the production quintet Mynt, which pumped out classic dance smashes such as “How Did You Know?” “Stay” and “Still Not Sorry.” To the dismay of their fans, the group split up in 2006 amid what many speculated were creative differences. “It’s tough because when you’re working with producers, it’s a double-edged sword,” Sozzi explained. “It’s great because you have these built-in people working around the clock and playing and producing, but then you also have everyone wanting to be the star, so it’s definitely a bit tricky. “But luckily, since parting ways, we are all friends again, which is nice, but I always wanted to be a solo artist, so I’m happy we did it amicably. It sounds like a divorce, but it kind of was.” Rich “DJ Riddler” Pangilinan , a well-known DJ/producer and former Mynt member, shared a similar sentiment regarding the split, saying he’s also glad the past is behind them. “It’s no secret that there were some differences in opinions on that project and some feelings were hurt on both sides,” he said. “It took some time to mend those fences, however, we were friends before that project, and we stayed friends after. “If there was one thing that I regret about that project it is that we never really got to do another album. I think that with what we both know now, we could come up with something very special.” Whether or not a Mynt reunion would ever be in the cards, Sozzi is keeping her eyes and ears open, always seeking to make moves and pair up with the hottest names in dance music. “I would love to work with deadmau5, David Guetta. I’m a big fan of Kaskade; I’ve been trying actually to get Ryan to work on one of my tracks. Festival splits the difference between new acts and old, in a nod to its future and past. By James Montgomery Eminem Photo: Kevin Mazur/EM/WireImage On Tuesday (February 15), organizers announced the lineup for the 2011 Bonnaroo festival , a bill featuring plenty of nods to the fest’s past (mainstays Widespread Panic, My Morning Jacket and the String Cheese Incident, to name a few), but also — most notably — two of the biggest hip-hop acts on the planet, Eminem and Lil Wayne. And, sure, mainstream hip-hop headliners aren’t exactly new for the ‘Roo — Kanye West topped the bill in 2008, and Jay-Z did it last year — but the tandem of Em and Wayne marks a definite departure for the 10-year-old fest, one that members of its die-hard fanbase may have a hard time digesting, if only for the fact that it’s such a departure from the days of old. When West took the stage at 4:30 a.m. in ’08 (a scheduling snafu he blamed, in part, on Pearl Jam running late with their set), those die-hards howled that Bonnaroo had moved too far from its roots. That deafening din was only amplified by the fact that the festival also featured Metallica as a headliner . And while we don’t expect the same kind of outrage this year, we have to wonder if, by tapping the likes of Eminem and Wayne, Bonnaroo had forever alienated the fans who made the festival what it is today. The answer, it seems, is no. “I first went in 2004, and even then the ‘traditional’ fans were already saying it’s too commercial, it’s BS, and that was when the jam-band scene was huge,” Caine O’Rear, editor of American Songwriter magazine, said. “I think you’ll have some purists who will complain, but overall, people will be psyched about the lineup. … Jay-Z was one the most well-received acts last year, which I think was a surprise to most people. [Widespread] Panic is a flagship Bonnaroo band, plus String Cheese Incident, My Morning Jacket … it appeals to this core demo. [Organizers] definitely consider the festival’s roots.” “I think, as a fan, I’m excited by this year’s lineup,” Josh Baron, editor of Relix magazine, added. “Once again, they’ve delivered a pretty unique lineup of programming. You’re not going to find these same acts together at any other festival in this country, if not the world, and that’s something [Bonnaroo organizers] always strive to do. And in this 10th year, they’re hyper-conscious of honoring their roots with a band like Widespread Panic, but also pushing the envelope with acts like Eminem and Wayne. … I don’t think this lineup is going to lose any more fans than they have past years; this isn’t the year that Bonnaroo jumped the shark. People who had that problem probably left the festival years ago.” And perhaps that’s always going to be the catch-22 as far as Bonnaroo is concerned: It is such a beloved institution — one that started in 2002 as a way of showcasing so-called jam bands and the flourishing community that surrounded them — that die-hards are always going to complain about the lineup. It’s sort of an annual tradition. And as organizers push the festival into its second decade, they’re always going to have to weigh the will of their original fans with the ever-evolving tastes of new audiences. “There’s no question [organizers] consider the festival’s history when they put together the lineups. You’re always going to see those core types of bands — Phish, Dave Matthews, Panic, the Dead. … They unequivocally know those are the fans that made the festival. They travel considerable distances to make the Bonnaroo experience what it is,” Baron said. “But part of what makes a festival is that it allows people to see music they normally wouldn’t. I wouldn’t buy a Lil Wayne ticket, but I’m excited to see him in concert, and Eminem is an undeniable performer. And as much as there’s a backlash to a band like Metallica, if you were there, it certainly wasn’t as if it was empty. Rumor Control: Ciara Says She Didn’t Get Dropped, She’s Tryna Drop The Label

Inspired by her Amazon Princess Grammy dress, Ciara woke up this morning and decided to put her label on blast. She wanted to make one thing clear to her non-album-purchasing-a** fans: her label isn’t breaking up with her, she’s breaking up with THEM! This is what she posted via Facebook earlier: To my fans: This week the net has been a buzz of the rumor that I have been dropped from my label. At this point that rumor is false.. It is true that I have asked and I pray that my label will release me. I have had some great times and success with my label, but sometimes like all great things, its at that point where I feel we don’t share the same views on who I am as a artist. The past two albums have been very frustrating for me. At times there were songs I chose to lead a project and I was ignored! This project, I even tried to get Gimmie Dat started I spent tens of thousands of my own money only to hear the radio pds tell me my label didn’t want the song played. I even spent more than one hundred thousand dollars out of my pocket on the video to bring my vision to it and still no label support. I do understand that some labels are not financially supporting their artists and I have become one of them. You, my fans, know that I strive to do my best to deliver to you the best songs and creative vision I possibly can. I’m dedicated to my music, performance and to my fans! I’ve tried to be a team player with the label only to have compromised what I truly believed.. And was not given the right opportunity to promote and inform my fans of the release of this album..I have so much of me as a artist I still want to give to the world and my fans. A release would allow me to go be creative with people who care and understand me as a artist. In a short time, I will be able to bring to you a new music energy and a visual excitement! Thank you so much for standing by me through the good, bad, and the confusion. I love you all. Love Ciara Poor thang! As the debut movie of Justin Bieber, ‘Never Say Never’ has released, the theaters are filled with the fans of Justin Bieber, especially, the teenage girl fans. The teenage girls were screaming when Justin Bieber appeared on the screen. They screamed about his cute looks, his new hair style. Justin Bieber: Never Say Never is a true story, about a 16-year-old boy from a small town Ontario, who rises as one of the global top pop stars from the stage of a street singer. The story is an inspiring one. Jon m Chu, the director of the movie, has covered every moment of Justin’s life. Jon Chu followed the rise of Justin Bieber from the making of You Tube videos to a rocking performance at Madison Square Garden. The movie ‘Never Say Never’, portraits every bit of music and performance of Justin Bieber. The sequences of the concerts of Justin Bieber are the assets of the movie. The movie was filmed in hyper-crisp 3D with 12 cameras. The additions to the biopic are the Lasers, pyrotechnics, and a basket ball court size video screen, as all the hits of Justin Bieber from “U Smile” to “Baby”. Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, shows all the streets, Justin Bieber used to walk and he used to play fun to the public. It is impossible to take off our eyes, when he is rocking the crowds.

His Beliebers, at the time, were keeping him at the top of the Twitter trends daily. Those fans were the ones who believed in him before he became the megastar he is today. When he sat down with us all those months ago, Bieber seemed grateful for their love and support. “They make me a trending topic on Twitter every day,” Bieber marveled. “It’s pretty incredible. My fans have made me a trending topic every day. I don’t think there’s been a day in the past month that I haven’t. So it’s pretty incredible.” The singer — who is still one of the most devout celeb users of the social-networking site — said he loved using the site to stay connected to his fans. “I love Twitter,” Bieber said. “I use it for being able to interact with my fans as well as promote stuff.” To this day, Bieber frequently tweets and retweets messages for his fans, noting that there’s no science as to who he picks. “It just depends. It’s kind of, like, it’s random,” he said. “It’s not really anyone specifically. It’s just kind of a random thing. “They’re like, ‘I never thought you were gonna respond!’ ” he added. “And I say, ‘You thought wrong.’ ” On Friday, Justin Bieber’s 3-D documentary, “Never Say Never,” opens.
