Diddy’s Son’s College Scholarship Sparks Controversy

Some are saying that his father’s wealth makes it unfair for Justin Combs to get free ride at UCLA. By Rob Markman Justin Combs with his father Diddy Photo: Getty Images “It’s all about the Benjamins” has been a long-running battle cry for , and now that his son Justin has earned a full athletic scholarship to UCLA, Puff’s bank is once again the center of attention. In November, the news broke that Justin Combs had accepted a full merit-based scholarship to play football for UCLA. But now, some local taxpayers and students are questioning whether the $54,000 scholarship is fair considering that Justin’s dad topped Forbes’ wealthiest hip-hop artists list last month after it was reported that he was worth more than half a billion dollars. “UCLA’s athletic department needs to consider the fact that perhaps there is another athlete on the football team who could perhaps really use this scholarship,” UCLA student Neshemah Keetin told Los Angeles’ CBS News affiliate. “Just being considerate that [with] our economy, students are trying to get to college through athletics and academics as well.” Once the news broke last year, a proud Puff Daddy issued a statement in support of his son. At that point, Justin’s detractors hadn’t voiced their displeasure. “As a parent, today is one of the proudest moments of my life. This is everything a father could want for his son, for him to excel at what he loves to do and is truly passionate about,” he said. “Justin is a shining example of what hard work, determination and a strong mentality can achieve. I am honored to call him my son and am happy that he is fulfilling his dream.” Justin graduated with a 3.75 GPA from Iona Prep high school in New Rochelle, New York, where he was a top-rated cornerback. He received scholarship offers from state universities in Illinois, Virginia and Wyoming. During a CNN interview, the network’s education contributor Dr. Steve Perry defended the young athlete. “He’s done what he needs to do to be successful, and in a meritocracy we have to accept that no matter who your father is, whether he be rich, poor or absent, that you can in fact be successful on your own merit,” he said. “There’s nothing free about a Division I athletic scholarship. It’s 40 hours-plus of work on campus every single week in order to maintain that scholarship.” UCLA spokesman Ricardo Vazquez echoed Perry’s sentiment, explaining that the scholarship was based on Combs’ talent on the football field and not his financial need. “Athletic scholarships, such as those awarded to football or basketball players, do not rely on state funds. Instead, these scholarships are entirely funded through UCLA Athletics ticket sales, corporate partnerships, media contracts and private donations from supporters.” Should Justin Combs accept the full scholarship to UCLA? Sound off in the comments! Related Artists Diddy

Family hustle man T.I. has passed on some fatherly advice to new dad Jay-Z In an Interview with Fuse, the rapper, who is the father of six gave the Roc Nation boss some useful tips to bear in mind while he raises his four-month-old daughter with Beyonce, Blue Ivy: “Little girls are going to judge men they meet in the future based off how their father treated them,” said the rapper and star of VH1’s ‘T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle.’ “You’ve got to be her first love, her first everything so when she run into nonsense in the street then she’ll know, ‘Nah, my daddy would never do it like that, so this isn’t even worth my time or attention.’” Before adding not to forget one vital thing: “Another piece of advice is enjoy the moments. Enjoy the moments because once they’re gone, they’re gone,” he said. Nice words from T.I., but with all the love Blue Ivy has coming from the Carter house, we think Jay has this one under control. We don’t foresee Tiny giving Bey any tips anytime soon. Do you think the “Trouble Man” should be giving Hov fatherly advice? Source

Bruce Willis Is As ‘Kick-Ass’ As Ever In ‘Die Hard 5’

Producer Tom Rothman talks about John McClane’s return in the ’emotionally driven’ ‘A Good Day to Die Hard.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Bruce Willis in “Live Free Or Die Hard” Photo: Twentieth Century Fox One thing’s for sure when the next “Die Hard” flick hits theaters: Aging action stud John McClane is no worse for the wear and just as ready to rumble as he was back in 1988, when the first film hit theaters. With Bruce Willis back for the franchise’s fifth film, “A Good Day to Die Hard,” producer Tom Rothman has made it clear that the butt-kicking star is just as badass as ever. “[We’ve] started this week, just started. It’s all set in Russia,” he told MTV News at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. “Well there’s bookend scenes in New York, but it’s John McClane, goes to Russia and I think the technical term … is f—s everything up. And the fun part about it, though, is there’s a great moment where he says ‘It’s good a day as any to die.’ ” Sure, McClane is throwing about his signature swag in the film, but Rothman assures fans that the movie also has a lot of heart, courtesy of the relationship between McClane and his son, Jack (played by Jai Courtney). “He thinks his kid is a screw-up,” he explained. “But, in fact, it’s the opposite. The kid is more like the father than the father thinks. So it’s very, like all the best of the classic ‘Die Hards,’ very emotionally driven and very kick-ass.” Director John Moore of “Max Payne” and the “Omen” remake is set to helm “Die Hard 5” with Skip Woods penning the script. “A Good Day to Die Hard” is a follow-up to 2007’s “Live Free or Die Hard.” Check out everything we’ve got on “A Good Day to Die Hard.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com

Candice Swanepoel: Hottest Hipster Ever

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably annoyed that this stupid hipster look is popular now and that all kinds of chicks are falling for it. It somehow manages to make pretty girls look terrible, it really chaps my ass, but luckily it doesn’t seem to have any effect on a supermodel like Candice Swanepoel . Here she is showing off her hotness in a photoshoot with that creepy old hipster dude that Lindsay Lohan banged as part of her comeback. Allegedly.

Kendall Jenner Bikini Photoshoot

I normally only post pictures of the purebred Kardashians, but lately Kendall Jenner has been doing everything she can to get some attention… If you consider taking pictures of herself riding a donkey in a bikini trying to get attention. Which I do. Anyhow, here she is in some bikini photoshoot that I’m sure her father is very pleased about. Isn’t she way to young for this crap? Someone take control of this situation.

Bossip Exclusive: “The Wire” Stars Chad Coleman And Jamie Hector Discuss Their New Film “Life, Love, Soul” In Theatres Today!

Last month we had the opportunity to see an exclusive early screening of the new independent film “Life, Love, Soul” and interview “The Wire” actors Chad Coleman and Jamie Hector who star in the project. Also featuring Tami Roman, Egypt Sherrod and Terri Vaughn “Life, Love, Soul” follows the story of young Roosevelt — forced to live with his estranged father after the tragic death of his mother and little brother. He and his father bump heads at first, but just as they begin to make a breakthrough, Roosevelt is faced with a huge decision of his own. The film hits theaters today but if you need a little more info before copping your tix, check out this interview Bossip did with Coleman and Hector below: Bossip: We’re big fans of “The Wire” so we loved watching you guys in this film. We noticed a lot of themes around African American males role models and providing examples and wanted to see what has inspired you. Chad Coleman: The film is about an African American man, who is estranged from his son. I think the film was able to demonstrate how even though he may have had a broken relationship you can reach out and rebuild bridges where they once were walls, despite the relationship between him and his ex, who unfortunately passed away. I thought it was a great opportunity to show the growth between and father and a son and it’s never too late to for an individual to change, an African American male to change, and accept his responsibility, and demonstrate that this is something he can do, we have so many negative images this is an opportunity to show that we can have those types of relationships. Jamie Hector: Also one of my favorite things in the film is when my character goes to visit Robby’s father, because that shows the audience as well as myself that it takes a community to raise a kid. Chad and I both have organizations, nonprofit organizations… What you see the character doing in the film is very close to what I am doing. We don’t charge people to come, we focus on developing a character while helping them, We support each other in order to serve the community. Bossip: In the film, how did you bridge the gap, what did you see in the script as being able to overcome these situations, the things that you baby mother might have said, that made Roosevelt act the way he was acting? Chad: That was very challenging –the circumstances, the way the things were set up. It breaks down communications in the earlier years with the exes. It’s fundamental, you have to be able to communicate with each other and share the vision where you are going together, if you don’t have that type of communication going on you will have separations. The personal baggage creates a huge difference. I was inspired by the fact I was given a second chance with my son. We couldn’t work it out, but she was still participating which was great. Relationships are very difficult to negotiate, but these things do occur, so what are you going to do? I hope we inspire a lot of people to feel there should be a second chance. If we can inspire a change of heart, to try to come back at it, to come to some kind of common ground, where there is humanity for the child, regardless how much you may have to work. Even if it doesn’t work between me and her, as men we have to do the best we can, have to be willing to take risks. I had to put myself out there, I never gave up on it. Bossip: Would you say your character is abusive? Do you think there was an issue with alcohol for your character? Chad: I don’t think it went to that degree; there was a level of self medication. I thought the film showed an honest way of this man having to come to terms, not through continued alcohol use, but confronting internal pain, finding a place in his loved ones life, that he will be a blessing to his son, through that incredible inner pain, I think its very courageous. Bossip: Do you think enough attention is given to teenage pregnancy and kids staying in school despite these obstacles? As a community what should we do to address this issue? Jamie: One thing that we know is that young folks are going to have sex. We have to educate them and be their support system. For me personally, finishing school is mandatory. I love the way the story expressed that. When you have a child, it’s not just about one person, its about both. They both need to take care of that child. That’s one thing I like about the film — even though the parents got pissed off, Moms she was heated — which I truly understand — afterward you see the support. You know they could have gone to school, gone to work and having to make these decisions, there was no way this could have happened without the support of the father, teacher, the community. When the girl gets pregnant you have to make sure she doesn’t do anything drastic or become depressed. We are human, we have to develop. The film exposes life after a child, you don’t have to put yourself in your own section just because you had a child — you have to educate yourself and those around you. You’re still a kid even though you had a kid. Chad: I would agree, he put everything on the table; there wasn’t a perspective that was not represented, which says within the community there are very distinct voices. Where these kids landed, through all those varying perspectives, there was hope for those children. The key is to not give up, to continue to work on yourself. It’s never over. In reality, there are challenges. Bossip: If you had a daughter and she came to you in that same scenario hw would you react? Jamie: I would do my best as a father. It’s always my job. I have to find that healthy perspective, that is going to inspire to help her grow even dealing with that situation Check out a trailer for the movie below: More On Bossip! GTFOH: Bill Lee, Sanford’s “Wankster Azz” Police Chief Steps Down… Temporarily!

SMH @ this buster … makes us wanna say Fawk the Police! Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee, under fire for his handling of the investigation into the killing of unarmed Miami Gardens teenager Trayvon Martin, temporarily removed himself from office Thursday, a day after city commissioners gave him a vote of no confidence. Lee, stressing his credentials as a former homicide investigator, said that he stands by the police department and the investigation. “I am aware my role as leader of this department has become a distraction from the investigation,” Lee said, adding that “temporarily removing” himself from the role would restore a “semblance of calm to the city which has been in turmoil for several weeks.” Two captains will head the department until an interim chief can be found, according to City Manager Norton Bonaparte Jr. The city manager did not specify whether Lee would continue to be paid his $102,000 salary, or when he would return to his job as police chief. Lee was on the job for just 10 months. He joined the department after a 27-year career at the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office with a mission to clean up a department marked by internal turmoil and race-related scandals. But the national pressure over a perceived bungling of the investigation was ultimately too much for city officials, who are bracing for a thousands-strong rally Thursday night, and another one at their meeting Monday. Suspended from Michael Krop Senior High School in Miami-Dade, Trayvon, 17, went to Sanford with his father to visit the father’s girlfriend. The family won’t say why the teen was suspended, but said the trip to Central Florida was in part designed so the father and son could spend time together getting Trayvon focused. Trayvon left the house on the evening of Feb. 26 to walk to a nearby store. On his way back, neighborhood watch volunteer Zimmerman thought he looked suspicious and called police. It’s unclear what happened next, but Trayvon was killed and the shooter never charged. He said the boy jumped him, and later claimed self defense in the killing. Lee was hammered for his handling of the controversial case, which experts say was marred with irregularities. He gave incorrect information to reporters, and the family felt he and the department were more interested in offering excuses for shooter George Zimmerman than making an arrest. The relationship between the boy’s family and police deteriorated from the start. Trayvon’s family believed the police department deliberately covered up Zimmerman’s past arrest record, portraying him as having a clean record because he had no convictions. The family had to file a lawsuit for the release of 911 tapes, but they felt the department was often willing to release information that was favorable to Zimmerman. As evidence that the incident was not a case of racial profiling, Lee told The Miami Herald that when the police dispatch operator asked Zimmerman the race of the suspicious person he saw, the Hispanic neighborhood watch captain did not know. Yet when the recording of that conversation was made public, Zimmerman clearly says, “he looks black.” Initial police reports never mentioned that Zimmerman had a bloody nose or a wet shirt that showed evidence of a struggle. Attorneys for the dead teen’s family believe the information was added in a second report to justify the lack of an arrest. Police said witness statements supported Zimmerman’s account. But several of the witnesses expressed surprise, telling The Miami Herald that they reported hearing someone crying for help just before a shot ended the cries. The 911 tapes of witness calls bolstered their claims. One of the witnesses who heard the crying said she called a detective repeatedly, but said he was not interested because her account differed from Zimmerman’s. For nearly a month, police never noticed a profanity Zimmerman mumbled under his breath when he called police, which some people believe was accompanied by a muffled racial slur. Even though investigators have the dead boy’s cellphone, it was Trayvon’s father who combed through the phone records to discover that his son was talking to a girlfriend in the moments that led to his death. As national outrage grew, protests were held Wednesday from Miami to New York. The Rev. Al Sharpton is expected Thursday in Sanford, for a vigil that promises to draw thousands of participants. More than 1,000 students at Carol City High School walked out Thursday in a Twitter-generated march that quickly spread to Miami Northwestern High. In an interview with The Miami Herald last week, Lee insisted that the investigation was thorough, fair and unbiased. “We are basing our investigation based on facts and circumstances not the color of the individual’s skin,” he said. “I can say that till I am blue in the face. As a white man in a uniform, I know that doesn’t mean anything to anybody, but that is the truth.” Dude is a LIAR. Plain and simple. He doesn’t deserve the job or the uniform. Zimmerman should be behind bars right now. Source More On Bossip! Let’s Be Honest: Rihanna Gets Kushed Up And Hollers At A Shawty On Twitter What The Fluctuation PT 1?
