Morse allegedly swiped the cash while she was director at the defunct Salander-O’Reilly Galleries, the sole handler for the paintings of De Niro Sr. Morse told a San Francisco gallery to wire the total $77,000 sale price for the paintings — “Guitar Case” and “Landscape with Pink Field” — directly into her personal bank account and never told De Niro, prosecutors allege. The buyers of the artwork were unnamed. “You will hear from Robert De Niro himself that the estate was never paid for those sales,” Assistant District Attorney Kenn Kern told jurors in opening statements yesterday. De Niro is expected to take the stand in the afternoon, said a source familiar with the case. Morse worked for notorious Upper East Side gallery giant Lawrence Salander, who pleaded guilty a year ago to a $100 million trail of larceny in what prosecutors had called the most massive fraud scheme in local art-industry history. This is sad: A south suburban teenager was routinely chained to a dryer and viciously beaten by his father and his father’s girlfriend with everything from bamboo scratchers to yardsticks to a broken ax handle, Cook County prosecutors allege. Hugo Dominguez, 38, of Glenwood, admitted he kept the 13-year-old boy captive in the laundry room most nights while he and his live-in girlfriend, Mary Ramirez, slept, authorities said. The couple routinely unchained the Brookwood Junior High School student in the morning and kept him in the garage before school, court records indicated. The boy told investigators that Dominguez and Ramirez, 38, often hit him with many objects, including wooden ax handles, yardsticks, bamboo scratchers, belts and rulers that had been taped together. Dominguez also recently stabbed his son with a knife, prosecutors said. Authorities began investigating the couple after school officials called to report the alleged abuse Tuesday. The teenager currently has a large laceration to his left elbow, bruising on a large portion of both arms and lash marks on his lower and middle back and lower legs, prosecutors said. Dominguez was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bail Friday for aggravated domestic battery, according to state’s attorney’s office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton. Ramirez was ordered held in lieu of $100,000 bail for unlawful restraint.
Lil Wayne was swarmed by DEA agents at Opa-Loca Airport in Miami, but in a more surprising twist than learning he is not the father of a child, he was released. The rapper was stopped and searched by federal agents after he got off his plane last week. Multiple agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency were involved. Officials performed a contraband search on Lil, who’s currently on felony probation stemming from incidents involving drugs and guns. Nothing was found!
