For the cover of his upcoming solo LP, Nas posed with Kelis’ green wedding dress, the only item she left behind when she and the Queens rapper split. “My feelings about it are not really relevant, but at the end of the day, Nas is an artist and for whatever it’s worth, he’s one of the greatest — especially for what it is that he does,” Kelis told NME.com about the album cover during an interview at the Isle of Wight Festival in England this past weekend. Nas first spoke on the significance of the dress when VH1 profiled the usually private MC on their “Behind the Music” special. “She took her stuff out of the house and left her green wedding dress. And that was all she left,” he said. “It clicked right there. You’re saying it even in your interview. It’s like a given that this should allude to this being on the cover, that statement,” Nas told MTV News on June 12. “Some things you can’t plan, they happen.” The veteran MC likened himself to an old blues musician, an endearing quality that his ex-wife appreciates. “I feel like, especially someone in hip-hop to really kinda be genuine and honest, whatever the honesty is about, I think it’s awesome,” she said. “My feelings about it aren’t really necessarily valid, it’s just the fact that as an artist, I can respect that he wears his feelings on his sleeve. Like Michael Richards before him, Jason Alexander has struggled to find show business success following Seinfeld . Also like Michael Richards before him, the actor now finds himself in a bit of controversy. But Alexander at least avoided any kind of racist rant for the ages . Appearing on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson Friday, Alexander was asked about his feelings on cricket and responded as follows: “It’s the pitch… It’s not like a manly baseball pitch; it’s a queer British gay pitch.” The phrasing led to a number of Twitter followers, along with members of GLAAD, coming down on Alexander, who then released a statement that apologized for the remark. “I should know better,” he said. “My daily life is filled with gay men and women, both socially and professionally. I am profoundly aware of the challenges these friends of mine face and I have openly advocated on their behalf. “So, I can only apologize and I do. In comedy, timing is everything. And when a group of people are still fighting so hard for understanding, acceptance, dignity and essential rights–the time for some kinds of laughs has not yet come. I hope my realization brings some comfort.” Very well said indeed. Do you think Alexander should have apologized?
Madonna recently went out of her way to once again not-so-subtly remind everyone that she is, in fact, in a sense, an older version of Lady Gaga. The queen of pop was performing “Express Yourself” at a rehearsal in Tel Aviv, Israel when she suddenly trotted out a cover of “Born This Way.” Of course, the two tracks blended seamlessly, reviving debate over whether Lady Gaga ripped off Madonna with her 2011 smash hit single. Madonna Covers Born This Way Although she stayed mum on Gaga’s song for some time, Madge eventually referred to it as “reductive” and undoubtedly influenced by her earlier work. There is no actual feud here, but the whole thing seems to have an air of condescension, as if Madonna is wielding the cover over her head. Jessica Biel is looking forward to her newest role: wife. “To me, nothing will really change, because I’m almost never home,” the Total Recall actress told Gala . “But when I am home, I enjoy cooking.” Overall, once they tie the knot (possibly in a big summer wedding ), “I don’t think our marriage will change anything ,” the 30-year-old says. While that may turn out not to be true, she admits “it will be a challenge finding a balance between private life, family and work … I’m ready.” Biel also describes herself as “someone who lets things happen naturally,” saying she is not sure if she wants to have a child right away. “For me, getting married doesn’t mean limiting ourselves to some predefined idea. Rather, it’s an opportunity to explore new things in life.” And while fans may ogle Timberlake’s good looks and hot moves, for Biel, there are three distinct qualities she finds admirable in Justin. “The ability to communicate well … to be able to express his feelings,” she says of her future husband. “Then, loyalty. Actor opens up about the challenges of getting into the tortured mind of Edgar Allan Poe. While fictionalized characters require imagination and innovation, historical figures depend on research and character study. And few historical individuals are more dark, complex and mysterious than Edgar Allan Poe. MTV News recently spoke with veteran thespian John Cusack , who portrays the legendary poet and storyteller in the upcoming film “The Raven” , and asked what it takes to really enter into the world of such a puzzling man. “It’s like an app, right? Like on your phone, ‘Go to Darkness.’ You press the Poe app,” Cusack joked. “That’s sort of how the psyche works, too, in a way,” he clarified. “So, I think you just try to activate it and bring it to life.” So, how did Cusack bring it to life? On top of reading Poe’s works and studied his biography, healso tried to tap into his emotions. “If you think of movies like in a dream language, then there’s kind of a dream logic to it,” Cusack said. “And then you just follow the feelings. You use the feelings, I think that’s what it is.” “The Raven” hits theaters April 27, so fans of Poe and his stories will soon discover how Cusack brings the horror-writer back to life. When Bristol Palin heard from texting friends that Levi Johnston was expecting his second child, she was shocked … then confused … then just pissed. “I said, ‘No way, shut up!'” Bristol tells In Touch Weekly, admitting that before long, her feelings if disbelief soon turned to sadness, anger and disgust . “I think it’s a little bit of everything, and a lot of confusion. I’m upset about it.” She’s primarily upset because Levi, who says he’s “really excited” to be expecting a baby with girlfriend Sunny Oglesby, is MIA from his first born’s life. The reasons for that depend on who you ask – Levi says the Palins conspire to keep Tripp away from him, they say he’s just a deadbeat – but it’s true. “He’s seen Tripp twice in the past four months,” Bristol Palin tells the celebrity gossip mag. “He once went an entire year without seeing him at all.” Bristol is adamant that her ex has always been free to see Tripp. “I wish Levi would be like, ‘Hey Bristol, can I have Tripp for the weekend?’” she says. “I would be so willing and glad to do that. Yet he continues to lie.” The daughter of former V.P. candidate Sarah Palin says she wishes no ill will on Levi and Sunny Oglesby , but is merely concerned for her own son. Above all, Bristol’s main fear is that Tripp being humiliated. “I don’t want him to go to elementary school with 10 half-siblings,” she says. “That would really affect him.
