Concert-Goers At NYC’s Global Citizen Festival Mistook A Fallen Barrier For Gunshots

Theo Wargo/Getty Images for Global Citizen Panic Ensues As People Mistake Fallen Barrier For Gunshots At Festival Every year, thousands of people pack into Central Park in New York City for Global Citizen Festival, a concert that boasts big headliners and free tickets, all for the cause of ending extreme poverty by 2030. This year, however, there was some panic at the festival that almost halted the concert. Just ahead of Janet Jackson’s set at the Global Citizen Festival, a fallen barrier caused panic among the 60,000 attendees–who reportedly thought it was the sound of gunshots. Witnesses at the scene told  the  New York Times  that the confusion and fear of an active shooter at the music festival nearly caused a stampede as concertgoers fled. Chris Martin, who was on the stage at the time, tried to calm the attendees down. “What happened is a barrier I think fell down. Of course it caused people to be a bit frightened and stuff like that. But nobody is trying to hurt nobody. You are all safe,” he said to cheers before handing the microphone to NYPD’s assistant chief Kathleen O’Reilly, who also reassured the safety of the attendees. WATCH: Chris Martin and NYPD Assistant Chief Kathleen O'Reilly explain that a fence barrier collapsed at #GlobalCitizen Festival; there were no shots fired: “You're all safe.” pic.twitter.com/wiAbyMVjqh — MSNBC (@MSNBC) September 29, 2018 “Everybody relax, calm down,” she said. “It was a barrier collapse. There was no shots fired. Hopefully the show is going to go on. We just have to reassess the situation and try and create a new safety lane. We’re going to have to try our best.” Global Citizen later tweeted out that there were a few injuries caused by those running away, etc, but the show would go on. Thank you to all the Global Citizens who took action and joined us today. Our thoughts are with those who were injured or afraid after the barrier fell earlier this evening. We're grateful for the first responders who ensured everyone's safety and enabled the festival to go on. pic.twitter.com/K03VEpP8FJ — Global Citizen (@GlblCtzn) September 30, 2018 And the show did just that. After some amazing sets from the likes of Cardi B and Janelle Monae, Janet Jackson took the stage–and even brought out Q-Tip out as a surprise guest to perform their classic hit “Got ’til It’s Gone.” The Weeknd ended out the night with an amazing performance, and the rest of the night went off without a hitch.

A Lil Positivity: J. Cole’s Dreamville Nonprofit Just Launched A Hurricane Florence Relief Fund

Photo by Tabatha Fireman/Getty Images J. Cole Starts Hurricane Relief Fund Following record-breaking rainfall, flooding rivers, and mass power outages wrought by Hurricane Florence–which made landfall in North Carolina last Friday, September 14– J. Cole  has just launched a storm relief fund through his nonprofit, Dreamville Foundation. The foundation is currently soliciting donations on its website and is set to target its relief efforts in Cole’s hometown of Fayetteville, N.C. Mandatory evacuations have impacted thousands of households, who were ordered along the Cape Fear River, which runs through the city and remains in major flood status, according to the National Weather Service. The  Fayetteville Observer  has reported that three deaths in the city’s surrounding Cumberland County may be attributed to Florence. “The Dreamville Foundation is looking to lend a helping hand to the community, children, and families affected by Hurricane Florence,” reads the announcement from the fund. “There will be hot food stations placed throughout the city, temporary housing options for families, and stocking of food pantries/shelters, as well as supporting other local non profits who help provide services for the people in Fayetteville.” The rapper is currently traveling through North America on his K.O.D. Tour. His first ever Dreamville Festival was scheduled to take place in his hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina earlier this month, but was cancelled due to safety concerns related to the storm. Before the event was forced to be cancelled, a portion of proceeds from the festival were intended to benefit Cole’s nonprofit. Those who want to contribute to the cause can donate to J. Cole’s Hurricane Florence relief fund on the Dreamville Foundation website, here .

All Of The Music Videos Off Kanye West’s ‘Graduation’ Ranked

Source: Taylor Hill / Getty Kanye West ‘s album rollout for Graduation is something that should be taught in every music history class. The Chicago native dropped his third studio album on September 11, 2007, in an event that is still talked about pretty often for something that happened eleven years ago. Though he wasn’t exactly a small-time rapper at the time, Kanye was the underdog in his highly publicized competition with 50 Cent , who both released their albums on the same day. 50 didn’t retire afterward as advertised, but Mr. West ended up raking in a whopping 960K in first week sales and beating out Curtis ‘ 690K. This solidified Ye’s spot at the top of the hip-hop game and skyrocketed his whole career–every album that followed for Kanye, to this day, has reached #1 on Billboard charts. While it’s nearly impossible to say one thing that Kanye West is known for or best at, his visuals as a whole are a pretty good start. From fashion, to design, to music videos, Ye is always thinking about how things look just as much as he’s considering how they sound. With that being said, the music videos from Graduation are some of Kanye’s most iconic, most viewed, and most talked about. In honor of the project’s eleven year anniversary, let’s take a walk down memory lane and remember how all 6 of the music videos off of Graduation fare today. 6. “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” is arguably one of the best songs on the album–and one of the best tracks in Ye’s entire discography–but the same can’t really be said for the video. While it’s a good example of the always beautiful and deliberate display of colors that the rapper is known for throughout his work, it’s a very simple video as far as Kanye visuals go–not a bad thing, just not as memorable as a lot of his visual concepts are.   5. “Homecoming” The video for “Homecoming” was nominated for Best Hip-Hop Video at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. A tribute to his hometown Chicago, the all black-and-white Hype Williams -directed visual is a pretty straight forward look at the people, landmarks, and monuments of the windy city. Though the music video does it’s job paying homage to the Chi, a song with such heavy visualization and allusions could have benefitted from a colorful, illustrative video.   4. “Stronger” Another gift from Hype Williams, “Stronger” gives us a visual initially shot over 9 days in Tokyo, Japan. The guerrilla-style visual is futuristic, which fits the theme of Graduation as a whole, but specifically the sounds of Kanye and Daft Punk on the track. The original storyline for the video features West playing a man in a motorcycle gang, who gets into a bar fight with Japanese rivals. West ended up not liking the video, abandoned the storyline, and edited the visual to obtain “the hottest shots possible,” adding more footage in New York City.   3.  “Flashing Lights (feat. Dwele)” In “Flashing Lights,” a  Playboy  model drives out to the desert, strips down, and pops open the trunk of her car to reveal a bound-and-gagged Kanye West before pounding him with a shovel. This video is some incredible foreshadowing for the genius to come from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy ‘s visuals, and it’s most definitely a bright highlight in Ye’s catalogue of impressive music videos.   2. “Good Life (feat T-Pain)” The music video for “Good Life” is something special. It was directed by Jonas & François with animation by So-Me, and is jam packed with colorful writing, creativity, and fun. This visual is the perfect representation of living the good life and evokes the same feeling the song itself does, watching Kanye and T-Pain happily sing along to their smash hit. 1. “Good Morning” Those who hold Graduation– or any Kanye album for that matter–close to their heart are bound to disagree on which visuals come out on top, but there’s no denying how iconic the music video for “Good Morning” is. Starring the famous Dropout Bear, the video was directed by Japanese contemporary artist  Takashi Murakami , who also designed the album artwork   and the cover art for its singles.

Cooler Than A Polar Bear’s Toenails: This Andre 3000 Fan Had An Amazing Encounter With The Outkast Rapper

WENN.com André 3000 Fan Shares Remarkable Story About Running Into Him There’s a heartwarming André 3000 story circulating the internet right now about an Outkast fan named Tiana who just happened to bump into the Atlanta rapper Thursday while strolling the streets of Soho. At the time of the encounter Tiana was wearing a t-shirt with Dre (born Andre Benjamin) plastered on it wearing one of his famous costumes from his 2014 live show run that read “across cultures darker people suffer most. why?” Tiana said Benajamin was just as excited to see her (and her shirt) as she was to see him and that he snapped several photos of her and also obliged her request for a picture. Sounds like a dope experience, riiiight? Tiana shared her story on Twitter and got retweeted nearly 30K times on the platform while being favorited over 188K times! Crazy right. Peep the thread below: walking down a silent block in Soho – Andre 3k (my mf hero) walks out of a coffee shop as I’m passing. “Oh my God you’re on my shirt rn.” He was acting just as hype as me, which maximized my level of happiness/excitement x10000. What a good day. pic.twitter.com/ICHTng8b8z — TIANA (@itsTiana) August 29, 2018 If you missed some of the tweets, Tiana dug up old messages from 2014 where she stans Dre during one of their tour stops from that year. It’s really sweet stuff. Funny enough Andre is wearing a t-shirt bearing Anita Baker’s face in the photo with Tiana — just goes to show he can relate riiiight?
