Dirty Dog Diaries: Obama Cabinet Member Who Got Put On Blast By Mistress Via Billboards Tries To Stop Her Indie Film Exposé

Almost three years ago we posted the story of this woman, who put her ex-boyfriend on blast after he decided to reconcile with his wife following their 8 1/2 year relationship… It looks like she wasn’t nearly finished humiliating him. Woman Who Put Lover On Blast Via Billboard Makes Movie About Affair Via NY Daily News reports: Charles Phillips, the former president of Oracle Corp. and a member of President Obama’s Economic Advisory Board, sent the Harlem International Film Festival a cease-and-desist letter this week trying to block Thursday’s premiere of “The Glamorous Lie,” a documentary by his ex-mistress YaVaughnie Wilkins. Wilkins, who in 2010 vindictively plastered shots of her and Phillips on pricey billboards in Times Square, Atlanta and San Francisco after their 81/2-year relationship ended, didn’t let the letter scare her. Neither did the Harlem Film Festival. Nasri Zacharia, a festival spokesman, says the staff for the tiny, 100-person Maysles Cinema, set to screen the film at 7 p.m., was initially worried because the still-married Phillips’ lawyers also targeted the theater. “We were on hold for a while, and the theater where we are screening the world premiere was concerned, but we managed to alleviate the problems,” says Zacharia. He says Wilkins agreed to take responsibility for all liability and is “standing behind the film.” Wilkins tells Confidenti@l that her ex-beau’s “cease-and-desist letter is saying it’s an unauthorized documentary, but my lawyers are countering that he’s a public figure and I have a right to tell my story.” Wilkins is also in a civil court battle with the film’s director, who she claims is now in cahoots with Phillips. Her ex, she said, tried to buy the documentary to kill it. “If Charles thinks there is something in there that misrepresents our relationship, then he should do his own documentary and tell his own story,” says Wilkins. A spokesman for Phillips, who is now the CEO of software company Infor, did not respond to a request for comment. But back when he was the butt of Wilkins’ rage after he decided to reconcile with wife Karen, he said this: “I had an 81/2-year serious relationship with YaVaughnie Wilkins … The relationship with Ms. Wilkins has since ended and we both wish each other well.” Cry him a damn river… You do the crime, you pay the time, over and over again apparently. But seriously, we have to imagine that with all her resources there has to be something more constructive YaVaughnie could be doing with her time and money. Do you agree? Photo Credit: Sam Costanza

Fifty Shades of Grey Author Hints At Cameo; Stays Silent On Leads

Her novels have sold 40 million copies worldwide and the pending film version of the trilogy’s first installment has fans guessing worldwide who will play the male lead with nearly every hot young actor in Hollywood a possible contender. So what is a wildly successful author to do as an encore? Well, be in the movie of course! British author E.L. James, the mind behind the ever-so-hot Fifty Shades of Grey series said on the Katie Couric daytime talk show that she is eyeing a possible cameo in the big-screen adaptation of the novel, revealing that one of the smaller characters in the book is actually based on herself. Speculation persisted all summer who would play the irresistible young business magnate Christian Grey and the guessing game flared up again recently between the possibilities of Alexander Skarsgård vs. Ryan Gosling at the recent Toronto International Film Festival (http://movieline.com/2012/09/17/ryan-gosling-alexander-skarsgard-fifty-shades-of-grey/). James remained silent on who she expects to take on the lead roles, though she has several in mind, but that was the extent of her reveal: “I have three people who could play Christian and I think four who could play Ana, and I’m not going to tell you any of them,” she is quoted saying on the show via The Guardian . She did, however, say that she appears in the book and may pursue being cast in the minor role as a cameo. “I’ve actually written myself into the book. I play a very tiny cameo role and I might try and do that if I’m asked to … we’ll see,” she said, adding, “It’d be interesting to know if people can find me in the books.” Set mostly in Seattle, Fifty Shades of Grey revolves around a virgin college senior who is swept up by a the dashing Christian Grey into an erotic frenzy. No telling how palatable the book’s sexual scenes involving bondage and sadism/masochism will be for producers. Universal optioned the novel for $5 million in March and it will be overseen by the producers of The Social Network , Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti. [ Source: BBC ]

POLL: Should Google Have Blocked Access To Innocence of Muslims In Egypt And Libya?

The New York Times reported  Friday morning that Google had made the controversial decision to block access to the inflammatory anti-Islam video,   Innocence of Muslims , in Egypt and Libya, where the crude production had sparked anti-U.S. riots and violence that resulted in the deaths of four American diplomats, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stephens . According to the Times , Google, which owns YouTube where the clip is posted, did not remove the video from its site because its policy is to remove content only if it is deemed “hate speech,”  or “if it is responding to valid court orders or government requests.”  Based on company guidelines, the Internet behemoth determined that Innocence of Muslims “was not hate speech,” the paper reported, but Google still made the exceptional decision to block access to the video in Egypt and Libya in response to the violence and killings. In the wake of this extraordinary decision by an American company to censor content, Movieline wants to hear from you.  Take the poll after the jump and tell us if Google’s actions were warranted, or if, in your opinion, even more decisive action is required.  Google’s immense power as one of the pillars of the Internet means that it can have huge influence over the boundaries of free speech on the web.  As Peter Spiro, a constitutional and international law professor at Temple University, told the Times : “Google is the world’s gatekeeper for information so if Google wants to define the First Amendment to exclude this sort of material then there’s not a lot the rest of the world can do about it.”  [ New York Times ] You can make your opinion heard. Rachel McAdams Nude in To the Wonder: New Details [PIC]

Earlier this week we got a quick tip from the Toronto International Film Festival saying that Rachel McAdams and Olga Kurylenko go nude in the new Terence Malick movie To the Wonder (2012). That’s all we knew at the time, but that small detail was enough to pique your SKINterest and our commenters wanted to know more. Well, we got the full report on To the Wonder from our Skin Skout this morning, and here’s the scoop: Olga Kurylenko stars as Marina, a French woman who moves to the Southern USA to live with her husband Neil ( Ben Affleck ). But soon after their arrival, their relationship drifts apart as Neil re-connects with Jane ( Rachel McAdams ), an old friend from his childhood. 49 minutes in, Rachel bares her right breast in bed with Ben Affleck, then we get a quick shot of both breasts as she gets under the covers. Then 1 hour, 8 minutes in Olga also exposes her right roundie in bed with Ben (lucky guy), then gives us a brief look at her butt as she gets up and stands by a window. Now, that’s nothing for Olga, who enjoyed an impressive nude run this year on the Starz series Magic City . But we haven’t seen nudity from Rachel since 2009’s The Time Traveler’s Wife (2009), where she gave us the quickest of glimpses at her rear view as she stood up and put on a robe. And that makes Rachel’s topless scene the real Wonder here. See Rachel McAdams before she was famous skinny-dipping in My Name is Tanino (2002) right here at Mrskin.com!

Film Society Of Lincoln Center Fills Richard Peña Post With 2 Appointments

Ending nearly a year of speculation, the Film Society of Lincoln Center announced two replacements for long-serving Program Director Richard Peña, who is set to step down at the end of 2012 after serving 25 years in the post. Kent Jones will be the new Director of Programming for the annual New York Film Festival , while Robert Koehler will serve as Director of Programming, Year Round. The Film Society of Lincoln Center said that appointing two directors to the programming team will allow the organization, which not only produces the annual NYFF but a host of other programs throughout the year, to “better serve the needs of an organization that has recently expanded its operations with the opening of the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film.” Jones began in programming with Bruce Goldstein at Film Forum, and served as the American representative for the International Film Festival Rotterdam from 1996 to 1998. He was an assumed heir to Peña, serving as Associate Director of Programming at The Film Society of Lincoln Center, and from 2002 to 2009, including the New York Film Festival selection committee from 1998 to 2009 after departing under the organization’s previous Executive Director, Mara Manus. He has also served on juries at film festivals around the world, including Rotterdam, Buenos Aires, San Francisco, Venice and Cannes. In 2009, he was named Executive Director of The World Cinema Foundation. Koehler is a film critic and festival programmer and has served as an instructor and programmer for UCLA Extension’s Sneak Preview program from 2003 to 2007. In 2003, he developed the innovative film program, “The Films That Got Away,” an ongoing series presenting significant recent work that has previously not screened in Los Angeles. Institutions with which the series has collaborated include UCLA Film Archive, the American Cinematheque and the Los Angeles Film Festival. In 2009, he was appointed director of programming at AFI Fest Los Angeles, where he helped create a new and focused competition section titled “New Lights,” as part of AFI Fest’s programming concept as a festival-of-festivals. “Richard Peña has played a fundamental role in defining our organization and its commitment to discovering and supporting the best and most important cinema in the world,” FSLC Executive Director Rose Kuo said. “Kent Jones and Bob Koehler, whose thinking and writing about cinema I deeply respect, are the perfect team to build upon Richard’s vision and carry it forward.” “The New York Film Festival has always been a beacon to me – when I was young and pouring over the yearly schedule in the Sunday Times, when I moved to New York in my 20s and started to actually attend the festival, and later when I served on the selection committee” said Kent Jones in a statement. “It means a lot to me to be entrusted with its stewardship after Richard Peña, to whom I owe a lot – I’m far from alone on that count. I’m excited to be working with Rose Kuo, with Bob Koehler, with Scott Foundas, with Gavin Smith, with Marian Masone, and with the whole team at the Film Society, many of whom are old friends and work colleagues. We’ll be working together to keep our part of cinema culture alive and thriving.” Added Robert Koehler, “I’m delighted and honored to join the country’s finest cinema presentation organization. Especially at a time when it is embarking on a new, exciting and innovative chapter in its history.” Richard Peña will continue his involvement with the Film Society of Lincoln Center after departing his duties as Programming Director at the end of the year, helping to design and organize a new educational initiative. The 50th edition of the New York Film Festival will take place September 28 – October 14.
