SAG Awards Seating Chart: Where ‘Glee’ Sits Next To ‘True Grit’

For Sunday’s awards show, producer explains science behind celebrity seating. By Kelly Marino SAG Awards producer Kathy Connell Photo: MTV News LOS ANGELES — The Screen Actors Guild Awards are coming up on Sunday, and preparations are already well under way at the Shrine Auditorium. The stage is coming together, the list of presenters is close to being finalized and, most importantly, the seating arrangements are being mapped out. “It depends on the size of the cast,” SAG Awards producer Kathy Connell explained when MTV News asked how the seating chart is determined. “It also depends on if they were here the year before. If the TV cast was down front, we are probably going to put them further back this year. We also try to be democratic between film and TV.” The ceremony will take place in an intimate dinner setting where both film and TV actors will be seated next to their peers. Throughout the show, the celebrities can nosh on food provided by Lucques Catering and sip on Dry Creek wine and Taittinger Champagne while they celebrate one another’s work. The Guild seats the film casts next to the TV casts in order to allow everyone to visit and mingle in between acts. For example, the first few tables located in the front of the venue have place cards for the cast of “True Grit” seated next to the cast of “Glee.” Moving more toward the center of the room reveals the actors of “The Kids Are All Right” seated next to the guys from “30 Rock.” And a quick look around the rest of the room shows the ensemble from “The Closer” seated next to “Modern Family,” who are across from the cast of “The Fighter” and “Hot in Cleveland.” “Actors are actors. They don’t care that they are on TV. In fact, you know, film actors are very, very fond of watching actors on TV and vice versa,” Connell said. The 17th annual SAG Awards will air live on TNT and TBS this Sunday at 8p.m. ET from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Fighter Producer Todd Lieberman Chats About His First Awards-Season Marathon

Just as The Fighter was a near-lock to earn Oscar nominations today, it’s a near-lock to win at least one or two statuettes during the Feb. 27 ceremony. If you had predicted this eventuality six years ago when Todd Lieberman and his producing partner David Hoberman first undertook the project — a troubled drama amid a development slate that included Beauty Shop and The Shaggy Dog — the producers might have driven you to the hospital themselves. But those crowd-pleasing roots grew into the film The Fighter is today — an awards-season juggernaut for Best Picture rookies Lieberman, Hoberman and star/co-producer Mark Wahlberg.

Oscar-Nominated ‘Fighter’ Actors, Producers ‘Screaming’ Over Nods

‘They’re just as happy if the other one wins,’ producer Ryan Kavanaugh says of Amy Adams’ and Melissa Leo’s Best Supporting Actress noms. By Kara Warner Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg Photo: John Sciulli/ Getty Images While the teams behind “The Social Network” and “The King’s Speech” are toasting their Oscar noms, another group of folks is also celebrating Tuesday morning’s (January 25) Academy Award nominations announcement. The cast and crew of “The Fighter” earned seven nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (David O. Russell), Best Supporting Actor (Christian Bale), and two Best Supporting Actress nods for (Amy Adams) and (Melissa Leo). MTV News spoke with “Fighter” producer and Relativity Media CEO Ryan Kavanaugh (Relativity fully produced and financed the film) just after he heard the big news. “When I got the news, I was on the phone with David O. Russell and [Mark] Wahlberg and myself, kinda watching and I think you could hear screaming through each house,” he said of their reactions. “The person I’m most excited for is David O. Russell because he really deserved it, he really delivered this package. He’s obviously had his ups and downs in his career, as many people have. He really came through on this movie and it’s nice that the Academy noticed that for him.” Kavanaugh’s fellow producer and the star of the film, Mark Wahlberg, also praised the director and his co-stars in a statement: “It has been such an incredible journey with ‘The Fighter’ and one that I am grateful to share with David O. Russell, Christian, Melissa, Amy, my fellow producers and the Ward and Eklund families, who are the heart and soul of the film. Thank you to the Academy for this tremendous honor.” Regarding Adams and Leo’s dual nominations in the Best Supporting Actress category, the Relativity Media CEO said the actresses won’t be thinking about competition at all. “It’s funny because I think Amy and Melissa, they’re just as happy if the other one wins,” he said. “They are competing against each other but at the same time, I think they’re both really happy for the other one.” Kavanaugh went on to say that although he’d like to go back to bed — Oscar nominations were announced at 5:30 a.m. on the West Coast — he has a long day of work and later, congratulating, to do. “I’ve got a pretty full day coming up. I’ll stop by Mark’s house, I’ll stop by David’s house, give ’em both a big hug,” he said. “[I’ll] try and stop by Christian’s house although he’s probably holed up and won’t even turn on the TV until 10 a.m.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Fighter.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Golden Globe Awards Honor Glee, The Social Network, Call Out Gay Scientologists

Ricky Gervais kicked off the 2011 Golden Globe Awards by staying true to his vow to be more subversive than he was a year ago. Just ask Tom Cruise and John Travolta, at whom the comedian aimed this opening joke: “Also not nominated was I Love You Philip Morris , Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor. Two heterosexual characters pretending to be gay. So the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists, then… Probably. My lawyers helped me with the wording of that joke. They’re not here.” And with that… the show was off! Christian Bale girlfriend Sibi Blazic

Christian Bale, 36, held back tears while talking about Sibi Blazic, his wife of more than a decade, backstage at the Critics#39; Choice Movie Awards, where he won best supporting actor for his role in the boxing film, which also stars Mark Wahlberg. The Fighter star Christian Bale has no problem playing the tough guy in many of his films. But when the cameras aren#39;t rolling, the actor has a soft side. “I get choked up about that stuff,” Bale told reporters Friday. “It#39;s everything becau

Kanye West Trash Talks Britney on Twitter

Kanye West pulled a Kanye West and trash talked Britney Spears and her #1 single, ” Hold it Against Me ,” on Twitter. Jokingly, we think. Mostly. “Yo Britney, I’m really happy for you and I’mma let you be #1, but me and Jay-Z’s single is one of the best songs of all time! LOL,” Kanye wrote. West’s Tweet, of course, is a reference to his infamous Taylor Swift MTV VMA speech hijacking and to Kanye’s new song “H.A.M.” (featuring Jay-Z). While West later removed the Tweet, Spears’ manager Adam Leber appeared none too impressed when he responded on the pop singer’s behalf. “Thanks for ‘letting’ us be #1,” Leber wrote. “Much appreciated.” West later apologized for it, telling fans, “On a serious note I’m truly happy for Britney Spears. No hate in 2011… I thought LOL signified a joke.” Typically yes, but when you’re a total loose cannon, sometimes the public won’t automatically assume you’re lighthearted or poking fun at yourself. In any case, these guys aren’t kidding about taking town Brit.
