Charice’s Rep Denies The Singer Got Botox For Cosmetic Reasons

Botox was used ‘to relieve a jaw problem,’ spokesperson tells Us Weekly. By Mawuse Ziegbe Charice Pempengco Photo: Jemal Countess/ WireImage Teen singer Charice Pempengco is set to make her debut on the upcoming season of “Glee,” and according to some reports, the star is going to great lengths for a fresh-faced look. The Associated Press reports that the singer revealed in a TV interview that she received Botox injections and an anti-aging procedure “to look fresh on camera.” Cosmetic surgeon Vicki Belo told ABS-CBN television that the Botox was supposed to narrow out her “naturally round face” and divulged that she also received a Thermage skin-tightening procedure. According to the AP, the Filipino singer explored cosmetic options because of the intense pressure surrounding her “Glee” debut. “All people will be anticipating how will Charice look? Is she good enough to pit against [Lea Michele’s ‘Glee’ character] Rachel Berry? So of course there is tremendous pressure,” the singer said. However, a rep for the 18-year-old star denies that Charice went to such great lengths for her “Glee” debut. The singer’s spokesperson told Us Weekly that the Botox was not for cosmetic use but rather “to relieve a jaw problem similar to TMJ.” The star’s rep maintained: “It did not hurt; it relieved the pain.” “You’ve seen her face — she doesn’t have a wrinkle in it, so she wouldn’t need it for cosmetic purposes,” the rep continued, adding that the teen singer had already won over the show’s producers with her look. “The ‘Glee’ people are thrilled with the way she looks, which is why she got the part.” Charice’s rep conceded that the star did go back to her original hair color but said “other than that, she’s not changing anything about the way she looks.” Charice got her start belting out songs at local competitions and shot to fame after scoring co-signs from talk-show queens Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres. The singer will star as an exchange student on the hit musical show. Are you looking forward to Charice’s appearance on “Glee”? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Charice Pempengco

World’s Weirdest Food

Each and everyone of us varies from our food preferences. Food is meant to be eaten and enjoyed, but what would you think of the following food? Tell me your reactions: 1. Monkey Brains in China Chinese cuisine is very varied. They can cook and prepare anything crawls, flies, swims or slithers. It’s one of the reasons that there’s such little wildlife near any inhabited region of China. Animals are food and there’s no room for sentimentality. But imagine sitting in a restaurant where a live monkey is brought in, its head sliced open and its brains served up as a rare (and illegal) delicacy? 2. Maggot Cheese in Sardinia One of Sardinia’s national delicacies is a rotten cheese (casu marzu) infested with maggots – the worms themselves become full of cheese fat and are considered quite sumptuous. 3. Roasted Silk Worm Pupae in South Korea If you go out drinking in South Korea, check if your order of beer is served with a tray of roasted peanuts….I mean….silkworm pupae. The cocoons are sold also on the street and taste, remarkably enough, like rotting meat. When you pass the vendors stoke up the pupae and the smell causes many foreigners to retch. 4. Live Ants in South America In the jungles of Colombia and Ecuador, there are species of ants which make for good eating. The locals dab them from the trees with a fingertip and it’s about as laborious as eating sunflower seeds to get a good mouthful. The trick is to chew the ants before they try and bite you. 5. Deep-fried Cockroaches in Thailand Disgusting and loathsome housepest comes as a tasty snack in Thailand which is sld deep-fried. 6. Fly Pancakes in Malawi In Malawi, flies are caught in the net and squashed into a patty and then fried as a pancake on any available metal surface, the sun being so hot. 7. Anything to do with Fish in Japan Everyone knows about sushi and stories about writhing fish, eyeballs etc are pretty commonplace. But what about a fish that contains a toxin so dangerous that it paraylses the muscles in your lungs? 300 people die a year from eating Fugu Blowfish and they have to just sit and wait until they suffocate. 8. Bull’s Testicles in Spain Wanna be man enough? The organic of counterpart of Viagra or way much better, they say. 9. Black Pudding in England Boiled pig’s blood and is served for breakfast sometimes. (Check ‘Dinuguan’ – Filipino Cuisine) 10. American Fast Food The food has all been processed to the point that it’s quite tasteless and then souped up with chemical flavouring that ensure that your Big Mac will taste exactly the same, wherever in the world you eat it. Bring on the maggot cheese. World’s Weirdest Food is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Filipinos Crucified As Atonement Of Sins On Good Friday

An annual religious ritual disapproved by church leaders in the predominantly Roman Catholic country, Filipino devotees had themselves nailed to crosses on Good Friday to remember Jesus Christ’s suffering and death. In San Fernando City, at least 23 people were nailed to crosses in three villages to mark Good Friday.Foreigners were not allowed in participating this year except as spectators, Ching Pangilinan stated, a city tourism officer and one of the organizers. The ban was imposed after some foreigners took part in previous years just to make a film or make fun of the rites. “We don’t want them to just make a mockery out of the tradition of the people here,” Pangilinan said. The event drew more than 10,000 Philippine and foreign spectators.  Devotees dressed in robes and tin crowns walked to a dusty mound carrying wooden crosses on their backs. At the mound, men crucified their hands and feet. Ruben Enaje, a 49-year-old sign painter devotee who was nailed to a cross for the 24th time as his way of thanking God for his survival after falling from a building. Mary Jane Mamangon, a 34-year-old rice cake vendor, was the lone female devotee to be nailed to a cross this year in San Juan village. It was her 14th time.  According to Mamangon, she started this ritual when she was 18 and has taken part in the annual rites on and off to seek God’s help in saving her ill grandmother and now her younger sister, who is suffering from cancer. “I do it because I have seen that it works,” she told The Associated Press. “I saw how my grandmother recovered from her illness.” Mamangon said she has faith that God will take care of her and her family. Similar rites took place in nearby Bulacan province, while in other parts of the country, half-dressed, barefooted penitents walked the streets, whipping their bloody backs with pieces of wood dangling from ropes as a way to atone for sins. Church leaders disapprove of such practices. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) stated that the real expression of Christian faith during Lent is through repentance and self-renewal, not flagellation or crucifixion. Bishop Rolando Tirona of the Prelature of Infanta said flagellation and cross nailings are expressions of superstitious beliefs, and are usually done out of need for money or to encourage tourism, which make them wrong. About 80 percent of the Philippine population of more than 90 million are Roman Catholic.
