Universal’s going back to the well, this time bringing Star Trek / Transformers / Cowboys & Aliens writers Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci along to re-envision two horror properties of the not-so-distant past: “Kurtzman and Orci’s K/O Paper Products will develop and produce a modern reimagining of Universal library titles including The Mummy , alongside producer Sean Daniel and writer Jon Spaihts. The pair will also develop and produce Universal’s reimagined Van Helsing , with Tom Cruise attached to star in and produce the film.” Oh, I’m sure it’ll all work out just fine. Right, Ron ? ‘He’s got a wry sense of humor about himself,’ actor tells MTV News at Tribeca Film Festival. By Kevin P. Sullivan Mark Ruffalo at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of “Avengers” Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images Of all the actors coming together to form the Avengers, Mark Ruffalo decidedly had the most to prove. After two previous Hulk films left fans largely unsatisfied, a new actor in the role could either lead to another letdown or, finally, to a version that felt true to the comics. Fortunately for Ruffalo, early reviews of ” The Avengers ” overwhelming point to his version of Bruce Banner as one of the highlights of the film. MTV News caught up with Ruffalo at the closing-night ceremonies for the Tribeca Film Festival to get his take on the Hulk’s positive reception and to find out what was different this time around. Ruffalo felt the pressure that came with the role of the Hulk as soon as he signed on to be the third actor in as many films. “It was very daunting. I’ve never had a part so harshly reviewed before I even shot a single frame of film,” he said. “The fanboys had a lot to say about it — granted, they had a great deal of care about this part and a lot of sentimentality as well, as do I, growing up on it.” The actor said that the latest technology gave him the biggest advantage over the first two iterations of the character. “There have been other great performances as Banner. The only real edge that I had was that the technology had changed so much since that last movie that I actually got to play the Hulk,” Ruffalo said. This latest version of the Hulk takes a different approach to the character, giving him a dry sense of humor about his condition, but Ruffalo gave credit to both Eric Bana and Edward Norton for helping lay the foundation in the first two films. “I just think it’s a natural progression of the other performances. When you find the guy at this point, he’s tired of running. He’s got a wry sense of humor about himself,” Ruffalo said. “He’s ready to turn and face the world. The action flick will feature the ‘Twilight’ actress as the leading lady and co-executive producer. By Fallon Prinzivalli Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News Since landing the role of the accident-prone heroine in “The Twilight Saga,” Kristen Stewart has sought gritty indie roles that test her acting abilities and cause a stir among fans, the first being her role as a stripper and prostitute in “Welcome to the Rileys.” She then cut off her long locks and donned a choppy, black bob to play Joan Jett in “The Runaways.” And later this year, she’ll portray 16-year-old marijuana enthusiast Marylou in the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s novel, “On the Road.” But that’s just the beginning for the 22-year-old actress. According to Variety , Stewart is set to star in the bold action flick “Cali.” The film centers on Mya (Stewart) and Chris, a couple from San Fernando Valley who sell a fake snuff film and disappear with the money. But Mya — who’s thought to be dead — must head back to Cali years later to save the younger sister she left behind. When she and Chris return, they’re faced with an array of characters, including “angry former business partners, homicidal porn stars, stoner vet techs [and] an unstoppable killing machine in a cowboy hat.” Michael Diliberti (“30 Minutes or Less”) penned the script and will produce along with Voltage Production’s Craig J. Flores (“300”) and Zev Foreman. New School Media’s Brian Levy is the executive producer alongside Nicolas Chartier (“The Hurt Locker”) of Voltage and Stewart herself. This will be the actress’ first producing credit. “Kristen is a talented and dynamic actor, with a proved box office draw,” Flores told Variety. “Her role in ‘Cali’ will be edgy and sexy. It will no doubt push the envelope on the public’s view of Kristen’s wide-ranging abilities. Voltage is thrilled to have her as a partner on this fantastic film.” The project is still in the early stages of development, so there’s no release date yet, but audiences can catch the actress in “Snow White and the Huntsman” in theaters June 1. ‘The magma of Rambo is coming to the surface,’ he tells MTV News. The last time we checked in with Stallone about the future of his famed Vietnam vet John Rambo , it seemed as though there might not be any more story to tell and that the hero needed “to stop running” and take a rest . Thanks to our recent run-in with the main man at CinemaCon, it seems as if Rambo’s rest has come to an end and we might see him rise again. “There’s a volcanic eruption [brewing]. The magma of Rambo is coming to the surface,” Stallone said when asked about his thoughts on bringing the character back to the big screen. So is there another story to tell? “I know there is,” he said definitively. “It’s one thing where you lay down the final culmination of your life where you can articulate it, but also act on it where he realizes what his destiny really is,” Stallone said, speaking for the character and how he might take a moment to reflect on his life and realize his work isn’t finished. “It’s not to be a farmer, it’s not to be obscure; it’s to go out in a blaze of glory in a heroic fashion. But is he really doing it for himself or is he doing it because that’s just his id? Producers may be selling the new 3D version as ” the ultimate Titanic viewing experience”, but if you’re anything like Skin Central, then nothing will ever beat the original full-screen VHS. The only reason to watch this 1997 box-office smash, of course, is for Kate Winslet ‘s SKINfamous “draw me like one of your French girls” scene, and thanks to the recent ballyhoo surrounding the film our Skin Labs revisited it on all available formats (we’re completists like that). What they discovered was that not only is the full-screen VHS the only version of Titanic to include a full butt shot from Ms. Winslet thanks to a wider shot, but when Kate takes off her robe for the big reveal, we get a few unsinkably awesome frames of full frontal as well. Almost one year ago to the day, Demi Lovato admitted that she started cutting herself at age 11. Now, in light of photos making their way around the Internet that appear to depict similarly self-mutilating marks on the arms of Miley Cyrus, it appears as if this young singer is doing the same. “Scars remind us of where we’ve been. not where we’re going,” Miley Tweeted yesterday. That’s all she had to say on the topic, leaving followers to wonder what she means. But it stands to reason she’s referring to the marks highlighted above. We can only hope Cyrus has moved past this difficult stage in her life and is now on the sort of path Lovato often talks about: still struggling with self-image, but learning to love herself more and more everyday. The erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey is creating major buzz lately after the movie rights were optioned, sparking speculation over who will play its sexy leads.
