‘I want to shoot it in Harlem, because that’s just the young, fly place to be,’ Tyga tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Nadeska Alexis Tyga Photo: MTV News Tyga is still putting the finishing touches on his Young Money debut, Careless World, but now, he’s less focused on finalizing the track list than getting his timing right. Because, from the sound of things, there’s no shortage of material for him to choose from. “I have productions from Cool & Dre, Pharrell; I actually produced a lot with my in-house producer, Jess Jackson,” Tyga told MTV News backstage at Philadelphia’s Powerhouse 2011 on Friday. “As an artist, you just know what you want to hear; it’s just better to make your own sound rather than try to find a sound and add a story to it.” And despite all that, Tyga knows what’s up next: shooting a video for “Still Got It,” his collaboration with Drake that appeared earlier this month. But as is the case with most things these days, he’s already thinking about his next move too. It’s sort of an embarrassment of riches, actually. “We’re about to shoot that [‘Still Got It’] video next week with Drake, and I’ve got another single I’m going to drop after that, with Nicki [Minaj],” he laughed. “I have a lot of good singles right now, it’s just about timing.” So while he’s very much looking toward the future, we had to ask Tyga about the present too — namely, that video with Drake. So what can fans expect from the clip? Well, he wasn’t about to reveal all the secrets, but Tyga did say it will reflect his Young Money status by being “young and fly.” “I want to shoot it in New York … in Harlem, because that’s just the young, fly place to be in New York,” he said. “I don’t want to give [the plot] away, but you know, it’s going to be young and fly, you feel me?” What are you expecting from Tyga and Drake’s video? ‘Midway through, I started thinking I might polish one of them off,’ J.K. Rowling says in DVD special feature. By Eric Ditzian Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley Photo: Murray Close/ Warner Bros. It’s no secret that a great many fans in the “Harry Potter” community — a whopping 89 percent, according to a wildly popular poll over at MTV Movies Blog — would have preferred that Hermione Granger end up with the boy wizard rather than with good ol’ Ron Weasley. Perhaps the same sentiment occurred to author J.K. Rowling, who recently admitted that she almost sent Ron to an early grave. “Funnily enough, I planned from the start that none of them would die,” Rowling told Daniel Radcliffe in a special feature on the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” Blu-ray and DVD, according to the U.K.’s Guardian. “Then midway through, which I think is a reflection of the fact that I wasn’t in a very happy place, I started thinking I might polish one of them off. Out of sheer spite. ‘There, now you definitely can’t have him anymore.’ But I think in my absolute heart of heart of hearts, although I did seriously consider killing Ron, [I wouldn’t have done it].” Rowling kept this franchise-altering potential story line a secret not only through completion of her “Potter” novels in 2007 but the end of the film series this summer. Now the author says she feels a sense of creative liberation that she can share news of the discarded plot point. “It’s a real relief to be able to talk about it all,” she said. The full Rowling-Radcliffe chat will be available on November 11, when the Blu-ray and DVD releases hit shelves. In September, MTV News debuted an exclusive clip from the chat in which Radcliffe compared “Harry Potter” to “Star Wars” and touted the way in which Rowling’s characters “exist in the collective consciousness of a generation.” That’s hardly an exaggeration, and it’s difficult to imagine Weasley, played by Rupert Grint in the films, not living on in the imaginations of fans. After all, Weasley finished in second place in our Harry Potter World Cup this summer, a fan-driven effort that attracted over seven million votes and was ultimately won by Alan Rickman’s Severus Snape. For Rowling, Weasley and “Potter” fans, then, any other fate for Ron would be unimaginable. “I’m going to miss the screaming. You don’t get that everywhere, and I’m going to miss that definitely,” Grint told MTV News at the final film’s red-carpet premiere. “I’m really going to miss playing [Ron] in these films.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘I think I won a lot of people over,’ he tells MTV News after leaked set photos. By Kara Warner Henry Cavill Photo: Max Morse/ Getty Images For the “Superman” fans out there, it’s safe to say that by now, you’ve probably seen and overanalyzed “Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill looking all ripped and rugged in the leaked photos from the film’s set . For the most part — nitpicky casting and director complaints notwithstanding — the collective judgment that has come down via various fan sites was: “Cavill looks awesome.” And no one was more relieved to hear and see those reactions than the hard-working actor in question. When MTV News caught up with Cavill recently as he promoted his upcoming sword-and-sandals flick “Immortals,” we asked for his thoughts about the constant attention paid to him and the production, as well as his reaction to the leaked photos. “I think the best part has been recently when people have sort of seen all the work that has gone into it,” Cavill said, speaking to his physical transformation. “I think I won a lot of people over, and I felt the support really come behind me, which is a really good feeling, because when you’re doing this all for [the fans], telling a story for them … you want to do it justice,” he said, adding that on the particular day when the shirtless photos were snapped, he was fighting very chilly temperatures and 80 mph winds from a helicopter hovering above him. “It’s wonderful to have all the people online going, ‘This is great, this is amazing, I can’t wait, thank goodness it’s him.’ It’s wonderful, so thank you to everyone out there,” he said, speaking to camera. “I do appreciate it.” What do you think of Cavill’s commitment to becoming the Man of Steel? Sure, it’s a tough sell. But Anonymous has plenty going for it both behind the camera (director Roland Emmerich and screenwriter John Orloff posit the legitimacy of Shakespeare) and in front of it as well, where a sterling cast including Rhys Ifans , David Thewlis, Mark Rylance and the estimable mother-daughter combo of Vanessa Redgrave and Joely Richardson — playing Queen Elizabeth I some 40 years apart — dig into the historical, political and romantic intrigues with relish.
Between Puss in Boots , In Time , and Rum Diary , I didn’t see much reason to fork over $13 at the movies this weekend. (Though I did see Like Crazy — or as I like to call it, Jennifer Lawrence Thanklessly Pouts in a Supporting Role .) Instead of paying up, let’s read up on Twitter’s feelings about these three new films. Prepare to have mixed feelings about Justin Timberlake by the time we hit #1.
When Paramount gave a post- Days of Heaven Terrence Malick $1 million, carte blanche, to make his next film, he began developing a highly ambitious project about the creation of life and the cosmos entitled Qasida (or, simply, Q ). Of course, the studio balked at the abstract Malick-ness of it all, the film stalled, and the director took the next two decades off from filmmaking. But! Now you can read Malick’s own Q script notes, circa 1979, and envision how his globe-trotting Q eventually morphed into this year’s Tree of Life .
‘Twilight’ super-fans tell us what they’re expecting from exclusive clip and live Q&A on Thursday at 7:56 p.m. ET on MTV. By Kara Warner Kristen Stewart in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Summit Entertainment We can hardly contain our “Twilight”-obsessed excitement for Thursday, November 3, at 7:56 p.m. ET when we will premiere a never-before-released clip from the hugely anticipated “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” live on-air, to be introduced by megastars Kristen Stewart , Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner . This extra-special event is “MTV First: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” which is an opportunity for us to provide our fellow “Twilight” fans with some insider excitement surrounding the impending release of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1,” due November 18, and catch up with the three actors following the clip’s debut on MTV.com. To get a feel for what members of the “Twilight” fandom hope to hear or see next week, MTV News sought out the expertise of Laura Byrne-Cristiano, who owns TwilightLexicon.com ; Kara Hassell of TwilightersAnonymous.com ; and Kallie Mathews from TwilightSeriesTheories.com . In the exclusive clip, Byrne-Cristiano and Mathews hope to see some reactions to Bella’s pregnancy from the wolf pack, while Hassell hopes more humans are involved. “I love the Cullens and werewolves as much as the next ‘Twilight’ fan, but I’m dying to see a little snark from Charlie Swan (Billy Burke) or Jessica Stanley (Anna Kendrick),” Hassell said. The ladies are also eager to see the dynamic between Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner during the MTV.com Q&A following the premiere of the clip. “I hope and expect to see some great chemistry and a lot of comedy from the three,” Hassell said. “We’ve seen them individually in interviews recently, but it’s always a whole different ballgame when they are all together.” “I would really love to hear them discuss acting together, i.e. when Jacob finds out that Bella is preggers,” Mathews added. “And what it was like to play off of each other’s emotions in such an intense scene.” “[I would like to know] what scene are they the proudest of that they took part in,” Byrne-Cristiano said. “In terms of end result on film.” Continuing with the theme of patiently waiting and eager anticipation, how are our dedicated experts preparing for the film’s opening day and making the wait less painful? “I’m so busy grabbing every interview and news story. It takes my mind off of it,” Byrne-Cristiano said. “Plus, we are planning this big private movie showing for our fans in the Nashville area, so I’ve been really busy with that.” “I have re-watched each of the first three films, and I have the soundtracks on repeat in my car!” Hassell admitted. “I am planning to be at the premiere with the rest of the fans!” Mathews said. “We are also giving away a ton of ‘Twilight’ merchandise at TwilightSeriesTheories.com leading up to the release. I will stay very busy!” Don’t forget: Fans can get in on our interviews with Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner by submitting video or text questions via MTV.com or Twitter (using @MTVNews, plus the hashtags #AskTwilight and #MTVFirst). If you had 24 hours to live what would you do with it? This is the running theme of Andrew Niccol’s new sci-fi thriller In Time starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried . Given the fact that Justin has been in show business since he was a tiny tot and has seemingly done it all from television and world famous pop star to now making the bridge into becoming a movie star, I had the chance to ask Justin the same question at the premiere. California Love: What Would You Do With 24 Hours In L.A.? “It sounds cliche but I would spend it with people that I love and with my family…I could probably squeeze in a three hour round of golf, and then spend it with the people I love.” After following that up with asking if there was anything left he felt he hadn’t done that he’d like to do, being the charming and lovable character that he is, he jokingly said “I’d like to occupy Pasadena.” As for the film, I loved it. One of the biggest reasons being the concept is great. The thought of living in a world where time literally becomes money and seeing how that plays out in the confines of the world we live in today is quite interesting. The world Niccol created is very fascinating and will be one of the main things that will keep you engaged with the film from start to finish. In the film Timberlake plays Will Salas, a guy who lives in “the ghetto” as it’s called. Here is where people can only afford to live day to day, working to earn enough time to live to see the next day only to do it all over again. WATCH: ‘The Tanning Effect’: Steve Stoute Interview With Jay-Z (Part One) Because you can only live a year past the age of 25, many of the poor people in the ghetto, like Justin and his mother(played by the beautiful and talented Olivia Wilde), used most of their year’s time currency to pay bills just to get by. But when Justin saves the life of a wealthy man(played by one of my favorite actors Matt Bomer ) with over 100 year’s time on his life clock, the man gives a healthy portion of his time to Justin and the drama ensues. So why the age of 25? Niccol chose this age because it is the age at which the brain is fully developed and human beings are better at controlling impulse and wreckless behavior(see why you can’t rent a car until 25 now?). The theme echoed throughout the film is that “you can do a lot in a day.” And the beauty of what writer and director Andrew Niccol has done is not only create a unique world in which we get to view the same way we live our lives today through a different spectrum, but he found a brilliant way to remind us all that the length of our time here is both unknown and relatively short. The contrast between the richest 1% in the film having thousands and even millions of years to live on their life clocks while the 99% work tirelessly just to make it to have enough time to see tomorrow reflects brilliantly on the status of today’s America and the Occupy the World movement that has taken place in recent months. We often say time is money but in this world time is EVERYTHING. Time is literally money, power, and anything else you need it to be in a world where it is the only currency. Much like our rat race is to make as much money as possible, in In Time , the goal is to live as long as possible once that clock on your arm begins to tick and tock on your 25th birthday. Some people have slighted at the notion of taking Timberlake serious as a thriller/action type leading man but what seems to be a smart move by Team Justin is that the theme and story of the film is much bigger than the people playing the characters. Furthermore, Justin actually does a good job of playing the character and not feeling like you’re watching the guy from N*Sync shoot and run from people. The film tackles our obsession with youth(which is why Niccol shot the film in Los Angeles) and holds a mirror up to our lives that begs the question, What are you doing with your time? Because, unlike the people in the world Niccol created, we don’t have the luxury of rolling up our sleeve and peeking at a clock to see when it all ends. For us it could be today, tomorrow, or 50 years from now but the message of the film seems to say take the time you have now, realize just how precious it is, and spend it wisely. What you’re obsessing over may not truly matter at all and what you’re putting off just may be the things that adds a little more time to your life clock. In Time hits theaters Friday October 28th.
