Christina Aguilera And Cam Gigandet Talk Sexy ‘Burlesque’ Wardrobe

While Xtina squeezed into ‘push-up bras, high heels and fishnet stockings,’ Gigandet wore …a cookie box? By Brianne Riviello, with reporting by Kara Warner Cam Gigandet Photo: MTV News Fresh off Christina Aguilera’s saucy song-and-dance number at the American Music Awards on Sunday, many are sweating out the release of her new film, “Burlesque,” which hits theaters Wednesday. “Burlesque” follows a small-town girl (Aguilera) who journeys to the city looking for her big break but instead finds herself in the sensual world of burlesque. Aguilera makes her feature debut alongside the legendary Cher and a beautiful and talented supporting cast that includes Cam Gigandet, Stanley Tucci, Julianne Hough and Eric Dane. We recently caught up with the stars of the film, who giggled as they recalled their unique wardrobe racks for the suggestive-yet-sweet musical. Gigandet joked that, unlike the women in the film who were clad in elaborate bustiers and stockings, his wardrobe included “cookie boxes and pajamas.” (In one very memorable scene, Gigandet parades around with nothing but a Famous Amos box covering his nether regions.) Aguilera lamented that he got off easy: “You didn’t have to do any push-up bras, any high heels, any fishnet stockings.” Aguilera did reveal a few makeup secrets, however, and reported that Gigandet donned eyeliner for his part as Jack, the love interest to Aguilera’s Ali. Gigandet took it all in stride. “It was fun to be something different,” he said. “Yes, it was. I gotta say, it made my job easier to kind of, you know, step into a different character, into a different world.” On a side note, Gigandet also commented on how the legion of fans from his stint in the “Twilight” series has followed him, as compared to other roles — particularly as martial-arts champion Ryan McCarthy in 2008’s “Never Back Down.” “It varies, where I am,” he said, regarding whether he’s still bombarded by Twilighters wherever he goes. “I mean, you know, when I was in New Orleans and Louisiana a few months ago, it was ‘Never Back Down’ that caught everyone’s attention. I know, I love it. But there’s ‘Twilight’ fans all over the world.” Aguilera noted that, once “Burlesque” hits theaters, it will be Gigandet’s character Jack who will get all the buzz from fans. “Of course,” Gigandet laughed. “Then I’ll be ‘Famous Amos cookies’ for the rest of my life.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Burlesque.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Love And Other Drugs’ Co-Stars Have Chemistry On (And Off) Screen

‘Just wait, she’s going to say something amazing,’ Jake Gyllenhaal gushes about Anne Hathaway during MTV News interview. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Much of the advance buzz about Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal’s “Love and Other Drugs” has centered on the film’s nudity — the co-stars bare some serious skin in a few key moments — but the actors’ chemistry is another important element in the movie. Actors will typically declare how well the cast and crew got along on set when promoting a movie, whether it’s true or not. But in the case of Hathaway and Gyllenhaal, it seemed obvious the two share a genuine mutual affection, as MTV News learned when we caught up with them to discuss their romantic comedy, which opens Wednesday. Since Hathaway and Gyllenhaal have collaborated onscreen before, we asked what it was like to do press together. “[She’s] annoying,” Gyllenhaal joked about having to sit side-by-side for interviews all day. Then, turning serious, he added, “She’s so dope at press. Can we talk about this for a second? She’s got a rare talent at ‘pressing’ it.” “How dare you set me up at the beginning of an interview like that?” Hathaway interjected in mock protest. “How dare you!” “Your mind is going to be blown by this chick,” Gyllenhaal continued. “Wait, he’s about to say the smartest thing you’ve ever heard!” Hathaway countered. “No, just wait, she’s going to say something amazing and you’re going to be moved, you’re going to cry,” Gyllenhaal enthused. “There’s going to be something you’ve never felt before.” The onetime “Brokeback Mountain” co-stars then began talking over each other, spouting off various compliments. “No, Jake’s great. Jake’s awesome,” Hathaway said as Gyllenhaal echoed the warm fuzzy sentiments. “She’s so talented. She’s at the top of her game. Everything about her is so special,” he said. “It’s so nice to know that someone really has your back,” she said. “She’s so beautiful right now,” he said, which got Hathaway’s attention. “Oh, thank you,” she said, turning to her co-star. “I think you’re just really handsome!” “Her body is gorgeous in the film,” Gyllenhaal continued. “Well, that’s too far,” Hathaway said. Tim Burton Has A Big 2010 Thanks To ‘Alice In Wonderland,’ MOMA Exhibit

And that’s why the veteran director is one of the entertainers we’re most thankful for this year. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Tim Burton Photo: Pascal Le Segretain/ Getty Images In Hollywood, the land of superlatives and flagrant puffery, the term “visionary” is thrown about too casually and bestowed upon flash-in-the-pan acts that all too often come and go with the change of seasons. However, one artist for whom the descriptor is fitting, whose films truly transport audiences to other dimensions and offer a childlike sense of wonder, is director Tim Burton. And this year, thanks to “Alice in Wonderland,” which brought in an estimated $1 billion at the box office ($334 million domestic, $690 million international) in addition to 20-plus years of unique and exciting filmmaking, Burton is one of the folks in the entertainment world for whom we’re most thankful. As part of MTV’s Thankful Week, we had the pleasure of chatting with Burton about the stress and eventual success of “Alice,” if we’ll be seeing a sequel or a musical adaptation on the Great White Way and a few hints about upcoming projects. MTV : Tim, every year here at MTV News, we select a few people we’re most thankful for. And you’ve had quite a year with the phenomenal success of “Alice in Wonderland” and a retrospective at New York’s Museum of Modern Art . Tim Burton : Wow. Well, that’s quite an honor. Thank you. MTV : Did it feel like this year was a special one? Burton : Yeah, it was interesting. The MOMA show was very special, and then going to the Cannes film festival and “Alice” — it was a lot of stuff going on. It was a special year for me, definitely. MTV : Were you a little more reflective than usual with the MOMA show? Burton : Yeah, I think so. It kind of forced me to look at myself, which I don’t do very often. I even avoid mirrors as I walk by them. It was a bit of a surprise in a good way. It did make me more reflective. You know, as you go on in life, there are less and less surprises — especially nice surprises, so it’s really, really great to feel surprised in a good way. MTV : We spoke a few times when you were working on “Alice,” and frankly, you seemed stressed. Burton : I was really stressed. We were doing music to no images. It was terrifying. In a weird way, it was quite exciting too, because you never know with a film what it’s going to turn out to be. But this was just an extreme, extreme version of that. MTV : How did you feel about the 3-D debate that came with the film? Some criticized the conversion to 3-D you used. Burton : Right, yeah, but that was kind of a funny argument because the thing is, we’ll shoot what? It’s not like we were doing motion-capture or we had sets. There was nothing to shoot. We planned for it. It was kind of a created argument in a way. Everybody likes to have a celebrity death match. Who will win? Things have more shades to it than that. MTV : Right, because a lot of it became about you and James Cameron’s different approaches to 3-D. Burton : Yeah. They’re doing “Titanic” in 3-D . What, they’re going to go back and shoot it in 3-D? No. They’re going to do the same thing we did. MTV : Is Disney putting the pressure on for a sequel for “Alice”? Burton : No, they haven’t, which was smart of them. They saw that it was kind of its own thing. They didn’t push for it at all, which I thought was really amazing, and smart, and right. MTV : And you are content to leave the story where it is? Because you do leave an opening at the end … Burton : Yeah, but that’s what the material does to me, it leaves it open for you. It’s kind of like dreams. It leaves it open, as it should, for interpretation. It’s like I got a lot of pressure to do a sequel to “Nightmare [Before Christmas],” and I just didn’t want to do that, because some movies should just be left alone. I think it keeps their kind of spirit intact in a way. MTV : There’s been talk about adapting “Alice” into a Broadway show. Are you involved in that? Burton : I’m talking to them about that just because there was a seedling of an idea that I thought was interesting. I don’t know how far it will go, but it’s something. I’ve always kind of wanted to do something live onstage. I’m just going to explore it and see what happens. MTV : It sounds like you’ll be shooting “Dark Shadows” with Johnny Depp soon? Burton : Yeah, I’m working on the script, and, you know, it’s been kind of a long time coming, but I think I’m getting a script that I like. I don’t really like talking, because I’m not really sure what’s happening yet, but I’m excited about it. I think, yes, finally for me, it’s getting to be the right tone. MTV : Have you and Johnny talked specifically about his take on Barnabas Collins, the vampire at the center of the series? Burton : Yeah, we’ve been talking about it. I mean, he’s finishing up another movie, but we’ve had a couple of really good meetings. Yeah, you know, I’m excited. MTV : Have you started shooting “Frankenweenie” ? Burton : We just started a couple of shots. It ‘s good. We’ve got a pretty low budget, but I’m excited about it. We’ve got a couple of shots that are done. Yeah, it’s just starting. It’s great. Thanksgiving is a time for taking stock, expressing gratitude and, most importantly, overeating. We at MTV News have been gorging all year at movie theaters, so it’s about time we looked back and gave thanks to our favorite actors and filmmakers of 2010. Enjoy exclusive interviews with our winners all week long. Kanye West’s Dark Twisted Fantasy: Everything You Need To Know

As ‘Ye drops his unrepentant magnum opus, we look back on his most eventful year, from Taylor Swift to Twitter, from ‘Runaway’ to ‘Today.’ By James Montgomery Kanye West Photo: Stefania D’Alessandro/ Getty Images There is perhaps no album released this year that comes with as much emotional baggage — or backstory — as Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, a 70-minute magnum opus of high emotion and even higher stakes. Born out of a 14-month period of intense personal struggle and immense public scrutiny, Fantasy is West at his most unhinged and unrepentant. But perhaps the album’s greatest accomplishment is that it perfectly mirrors the turbulent, trying times in which it was made: The beats are bigger, the boasts bolder, the highs higher and the lows, well, they’re practically subterranean. So, with Fantasy finally in stores, we decided to look back at the road that led to this day. From Taylor Swift to the top of the charts, it’s been quite a ride but, ultimately, ‘Ye survived and thrived. He pushed himself and the boundaries of hip-hop, and by doing so, transformed into arguably the most vital artist in music today. And he did it all without explaining himself to his (many) detractors. Hate him or love him, Kanye West is a survivor. And with his new album, he’s proved once and for all that he’s here to stay. On September 13, 2009, West crashed the stage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, grabbing the microphone from her and famously proclaiming, “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you and I’mma let you finish, but Beyonc

Christina Aguilera Struts Through ‘Express (Burlesque)’ At AMAs

Xtina gives a glimpse inside her upcoming big-screen debut, at the American Music Awards. By Gil Kaufman Christina Aguilera performs at the American Music Awards on Sunday Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage Before she even took the stage at the American Music Awards on Sunday night (November 21), Christina Aguilera had already watched a series of over-the-top performances from show-opener Rihanna , an uncharacteristically sedate Miley Cyrus , the always outrageous Katy Perry and a piano-tinkling, snow-shower summoning Taylor Swift . In other words, she saw the future, and it was a cornucopia of female stars who have taken cues from her career — and she made sure to show them that she’s still got a few tricks up her sleeve. Preparing to make her big-screen debut alongside Cher in the upcoming “Burlesque,” as promised, Aguilera gave a sneak peek at what we can expect in theaters. “It’s going to be fantastic,” she told MTV News. “And it will give you a fitting little look inside the movie.” Seated in a chair with her back to the audience and wearing a black spangly bodysuit, knee-high boots and a bowler, Aguilera snapped her fingers and leaned into the jazzy, skittery rhythms of the new tune “Express (Burlesque).” As the camera pulled out, it revealed a set made up to mimic the backstage at a burlesque club, with Aguilera surrounded by a squadron of equally scantily clad dancers. She flashed back to the “Dirrty”-era Xtina, straddling and shimmying on the chair, then busting into the song’s uptempo chorus and showing off the throaty pipes that made her a star. Shaking her hair along with her lingerie-clad dancers, the singer was clearly back in her element, mixing club beats with a throwback, “Free Your Mind”-style R&B vibe and strutting across the stage confidently with her patented growly sass intact. Even after a career spent in the spotlight as a child star on the “Mickey Mouse Club” and a pop icon since her late teens, Aguilera said the difficulty of trying to reproduce the dancing in the film for the AMAs took a toll on her. “It will be another very new challenge for me,” Aguilera admitted beforehand. “My legs have been incredibly sore as I stepped into the role of Ali for this.” In the film, Aguilera plays a small-town girl with big dreams who stumbles on a burlesque club owned by the feisty Tess (Cher). Aguilera added that, while relearning the dance routines was grueling, the choreography is amazing. “You’re going to get quite the show,” she promised. “Quite the spectacle.” While Aguilera is new to the world of acting, Cher told MTV News that the pop star can dish it out with the best of them. “The scenes that she and I had together, I really enjoyed, and I really believe that she’s got definite chops,” she said. “We worked well together. I enjoyed all of it, and she was toe-to-toe with me the whole time.” What did you think of Christina’s performance at the AMAs? Share your reviews in the comments!
