Family Of Melvin B. Tolson Wants Oprah To Pay For Exploiting Grand Dad’s Character According to The Hollywood Reporter sources, the family of the man depicted in “The Great Debaters” is unhappy with Oprah’s production studio of exploiting their family member for Hollywood cash– and not cutting them in. They want to get paid for the company making money off of their last name. The Tolson family says they were “not compensated in any monetary way for the defendants’ commercial use of Mr. Tolson’s name, distinctive attributes and unique life experiences.” The film produced by the studio, depicts the life of a professor at historically black Wiley College who in the 1930s, amidst segregation, led the school’s debate team to a national championship. In a complaint filed by the family of Melvin B. Tolson, when the film was being made Tolson’s son offered Oprah’s producers assistance in the form of recordings of their father for the purpose of Denzel Washington, who played the character, to study. Later, the family was invited and did attend the film’s premiere. Harpo employees allegedly told the family, “We are going to take care of you.” Well, the family is now ready for that pay out, they’ve been waiting since 2007 when the film was made. YOu can take a look at the complaint filed against Oprah’s people here .

According to Gabby, she was not only verbally abused by her dad, but by her brother as well: “Being bullied didn’t shape who the f*** I am. It shaped some of my emotions and some of my tenderness and why I don’t let people support me, but that shit also started at home. My first bully was my older brother. He said horrible things to me and I said just as bad things to him.” She also revealed to the mag that she once worked as a phone sex operator… “She takes a small bite and then dives into a story about how she was a phone-sex operator for three years, and that she always turns on her sex voice when she orders room service. She doesn’t mean to, but it comes out naturally, she says. Sidibe doesn’t think it’s a big deal that she pretended to orgasm on cue for random strangers over the phone…” before speaking eloquently on Trump and rape culture. “He’s not my President,” said Sidbibe. “At this point, are we going to be able to fix society? We f**** it up enough with Trump. It’s over. He’s not my president,” she says. “But you really have to be aware in Trump’s America, okay?” The interview’s a really good read and gives insight to who Gabby really is as a person. Last week, graduate students at the University of Southern California petitioned the university for enhanced mental health services. They requested these services for “Muslim, refugee, immigrant, international and other marginalized student groups” in response to the president’s immigration ban and other executive orders that affect the student population. Is this a reasonable ask? In a word, yes. The primary motive behind the immigration ban and the emotion it evokes are the same: fear — fear of being deported; fear of being permanently separated from family members; fear of going back to a country where the threat of persecution and even death are present. And that fear has a huge impact on mental health. Fear is the body’s response to uncertainty and adversity. It has well-known physical components like sweating, rapid heartbeat, and nausea. Longer term effects of fear include stress, difficulty concentrating, and sleep disturbances. Research indicates up to 20% of women (8% of men) who experience a traumatic event — like the enacting of the immigration ban — are likely to develop serious emotional problems. This could mean an increase in the number of students seeking psychological services for relief. [ madamenoire ] LeBron James Apologized To Wife Savannah For Often Putting Basketball Before Family When you’re trying to juggle a career, a marriage, a family and still hoping to find a way to carve a little something out for yourself, something’s got to give. In an attempt to excel in one area, usually our professional careers, many of us take for granted the other aspects of our life that require tender love and care. It’s one thing to know you’re slacking in such a way, it’s another to actually acknowledge, apologize to and celebrate those who’ve been put on the backburner. LeBron James is doing just that. While speaking with teammates Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye, who have the podcast Road Trippin, he James stated that his drive to be the greatest to play in the NBA has caused him to, at times, sacrifice being with his family so that he can train, practice and play. It’s something he decided to apologize to wife Savannah for. “I am addicted to the process. I’m addicted to the process,” he said. “It’s so funny. I just told my wife the other day, I apologized to her. She was like ‘What are you apologizing for?’ I said ‘Because the journey that I’m on to want to be the greatest to ever play this game or to the point where no one ever forgets what I accomplished, I’ve at times lost the fact of how important you are to this whole thing.’” [ madamenoire ] Diddy Announces Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop: The Bad Boy Story Documentary Finally, we are getting a documentary about one of Hip-Hop’s most storied record labels and crews, Bad Boy.
